How we Rose, the longtime New York Met's radio play by play announcer, plans to retire

from broadcasting at the end of the 2026 season.

He shared the news in a video posted by the team on Thursday morning.

While stepping away from the booth, Rose will stay on as the master of ceremonies for special

events at Cityfield, like opening day.

Rose first joined the Met's in 1987 as the host for pre-game and post-game shows, occasionally

handling play by play.

He moved to television lead announcer duties in 1996, working with legends like Ralph

Keiner until 2003.

After Bob Murphy retired, Rose took over the radio lead role in 2006.

Team owners Steve and Alex Cohen praised Rose for nearly four decades of bringing Met's

baseball to life with passion and energy.

They noted how his voice has reached fans across generations, capturing the team's biggest

moments in deep community ties.

A queen's native, Rose got his start in sports radio with sports phone in 1975 after

Queen's College.

He called games for the New York Rangers during their Stanley Cup run and the Islanders for

years.

His honors include the Met's Hall of Fame in 2023, Plus Bots in State Baseball and Hockey

Halls.

Rose's signature call, put it in the books, has marked countless Met's wins.
