2:04Hey, welcome guys! The Captain's Log Outpost, some Captain Jocke and Moss, so stoked to have you here. We're going to talk today a gear review. We're going to talk about a specific piece of gear. Now this, this is a piece of gear I never thought I would ever need. Okay, I got it. I ordered it. I thought maybe my wife. I thought maybe if we make a trip to the mountains and go whitewater rafting, this might be a good option, but for me, I'll never need it. And then I did. And it is a cell phone watertight bag from Chums. Now this is specifically called the Splash bag. And let's talk about it. You know, I'm on a skip all the time. I've got hatches. I've got dry hatches. But areas I can put, you know, my phone, my keys, when I switch from my prescription glasses over to my, my sunglasses. I got a spot I can put my prescription glasses.

3:04Places I can, I can stow and store things on my chaio without them getting wet. Okay, so needing a small bag like this, it did something I really, you know, would take advantage of. But Chums has a couple of different products. For keeping things dry. So we're going to talk about those. And then we're going to transition to how I needed this and what I used it for and my experience. All right, now Chums has these dry bags. Okay, called Roll Top. And basically they've got clips on the side. It can unclip them. They open up. This one's 20 liters. It's got tons of space. You can roll it up. Flip it. And it's going to stay dry. And this one's a sling. Okay, slings are cool. If you're doing like a hike, a day trip, you don't need to take a bunch of stuff.

4:08You know, you might need to take a light overcoat or, you know, a light shell or some snacks. That's a great bag. A little catch-all and it's waterproof. For me, I use this one the most. And it's the backpack. It's the same thing, but it's in now instead of a sling, it's a backpack. And this one is 32 liters. Whereas the sling was 20 liter capacity. This is 32. Here's what I got one of my skiff. What I do with that one, I put my ring gear in. Okay, I can stuff my ring gear in it. I can push down on it, let the air out of it. Roll it down real good, tighten it, good to go. It's going to be dry. The other part of that, okay, let's say it is pouring rain. I'm wearing my rain suit and it's just dumping rain. And then here in Florida, the sun comes out.

5:09And, you know, it's, it dries things up. But now I've got this rain suit on. So what am I going to do? I can stuff it back in there. And then my dogs here and here would be probably here, messing around. I can stuff that rain suit back into that chumps bag because it's waterproof. All that water is going to stay in the bag. Now when I get home, I can air everything out, dry everything out, get everything ready for the next day. So it's contained. Meaning, I'm not going to get water in my hatch. And because I can squish it down, then I can just, you know, I can, it doesn't take up a lot of space. So that's a great option. I don't have their third option here with me, but they do make this bag in a duffle. So the sling, the backpack and the duffle, depending on which model you go to, or you grab, it's going to be from 100 bucks to 160 bucks. That backpack, $130 worth every cent.

6:10Again, I'm able to keep my stub dry. And I can keep the outside stuff dry when I'm done with my rain suit. That's what I use it for. Now, this flash bag, I've got two versions of this. This one is cheaper. It's nine bucks, okay? And then they've got one that floats. So depending on your situation, this one's 20 bucks, all right? I have, I use this one. We recently took the kids to a water park. We went to Ty Foon Lagoon out in Disney. And for me, it's like, okay, I'm going to have my phone on me. I can't, I'm not going to go swimming with it. A risk losing it. I don't want to leave it, you know, on our little beach chair out on the, there at the water park. I mean, someone might take it. I don't know. So I needed to have a bag that could keep my stuff dry.

7:12I had my key fob in here. I had my phone and my wife's cell phone. So it was holding two phones. And my phone's in a, you know, it's got my credit cards on the back of it. It's in an in the order box. So it's not like a small package. My wife's phone, this isn't it. This is a backup phone, but it's same deal. It's in an order box. And she's got one of those clippy things in the back where you can stick your fingers onto it or you can prop it up. So again, it's taking extra space. But we had our key fob and two phones in this. And it stayed dry. Now, tell me about staying dry. Was it raining? No, it was a beautiful day. It's got three zip locks on it. You zip them all together. You can hear it click in there. And then it just rolls down. Yeah, rolls just like that. This folds over. There you go.

8:13And then it clips. Doing a terrible job of doing this fast. That's what happens. You try to do something fast. And now, it's sealed. It's tight. Just like that. And I like that it has a lanyard. So now I could stuff in my shirt. I could keep it out here. You know, when we did the rides, because there was some inner tube rides, we could do as a family. I stuck it in my shirt. Just okay, as I went over. You know, I kept it contained. This also, quick release pops off if you need to. But that was a concern for mine. It held. So let's talk about that. So my wife and my oldest son, they went on a two person ride. And my four year old was like, Dad, bro, we gotta go out to the wave pool. Go, go, on gool it. The Typhoon Lagoon wave pool. It puts out this gigantic wave and just the amount of power

9:13that this water has on the level. Now, I'm in the water in my four year old. So of course, I didn't go all the way to where the waves are huge. I stayed further back. And it still swept us away. And I was like, oh, man, I really hope this $9 bag from Choms works. Bro, let me tell you, we went flying. And no water got into this bag. It stayed nice and dry. You can see there's still chlorine, little marks on the front of it from that water. But the inside stayed dry. My key fob was good. My phones were good. Everything was good. When we got hit with the waves, I was really concerned that this was going to pop out. But no, man, we got, I'm talking. We got thrown back. Maybe like 50 feet like it pushed us. And my four year old thought it was the funnest thing ever.

10:14This stayed together. That was a concern of mine, but it stayed together. So here's a product that I never thought I would ever need. Never thought I would use that really came in clutch. And did, that's the important part right here. This is the important part. It did exactly what they advertised it's going to do. So I had the security and the safety and the comfort of knowing that my phone and my keys weren't going to grow feet and walk away from someone at the water park. But I also knew that they were going to be safe from the elements, from the water, from the chlorine, from the waves, and this bag from Chums. Again, this is called the splash bag. Comes in a few different colors. But if you're going to go do something outdoors and it might rain, you're going to go to a theme park, you're going to go white water rafting, you're going to go out on a boat. And maybe you don't know if they're going to have any kind of storage for you to keep your stuff dry.
