These are always fun hours when we have you guys on, it's one of my favorite parts of

the show every year, and we saved a fun hour for you guys because it's a topic we don't

usually cover on WIP, that would be AJ Brown and the future of AJ.

I thought yesterday when Romeo Dobbs signed with the Patriots, it was obviously notable,

right, and now they have something in that receiver room and they paid him a decent amount

of money, and I think he's a good player, but you know, kind of a number two that they

can, they could say at least we got something.

So maybe the leverage changes, but guys went, when I heard the reporting on it, it was

eye-opening.

Every few weeks there's an eye-opening report on this that makes me think at least a

little bit different.

Let's hear Ian rap port yesterday, explaining the AJ situation, listen to how he frames

the future of this at the end.

For the Patriots, you know, I think it's safe to say they have been in the receiver market

for some time, and there's a lot here.

First of all, there's Dobbs who has been, I would say, on the field and off an interesting

case for the Green Bay Packers town has never been in questions, Patriots hoping to hit

it big there.

The other part of this is the Patriots have been in talks at various times over the last

week or so with the Philadelphia Eagles on a potential deal for AJ Brown.

AJ Brown is making a lot of money.

Now the Patriots, you can do a lot of different things with the cap, but at the least what this

is is a big money signing in the receiver room at a time when many thought it would be

AJ Brown.

If it's not the Patriots for AJ Brown, the Eagles face the possibilities kind of going

back to the drawing board, or maybe Brown goes, you know what, I'm going to open it up and

consider going to some other teams.

There's a lot here, but for the Patriots and for Drake main, most importantly they get

a big time target in the receiver.

What hit me was the end.

If not the Patriots for AJ Brown, the Eagles could go back to the drawing board, or potentially

AJ Brown opens up where he would want to like it, as if AJ Brown is dictating this whole

process.

The more I hear this, I think the most obvious thing in the world is going on and we're

all kind of dancing around it.

He's pushing his way out of town and they have to move on.

There's no way they could run this thing back if he's out there pushing to get out.

Or we can run it back.

He would make no sense.

It makes perfect sense to me.

You know what, you know what, throughout this whole ordeal, like I said, the most heat

that I felt from this was during the comma when you know the stories heated up and he was

supposed to be gone by yesterday, like I don't think, I think that this is one of those

stories.

It just keep running and the fact that he hasn't been trained, it tells me everything.

There hasn't been anything.

I don't tell me anything.

There hasn't been anything that has been said about the Eagles.

Like they're just chilling.

We just said how we can go back to the drawing board or he, but how we say that?

But why didn't he say they could bring him back?

There's this big fear of like, what do it look like if A.J. is unhappy on the Eagles?

problem there also been a lot of reports that he said now that we he's the

quarterback so potentially might have come from AJ Brown he said it's a

big show here I don't think me if you are disputing that he doesn't want to be

here he's going to be here last year but how that worked out the year before

you want to be here and they keep winning though they keep winning and I love

everyone blames him for that playoff he had a bad game everyone had bad

games last year the offensive line was bad Jalen struggled like Devonte

well he really was also here but I'm saying take one out of that but we only

point to AJ and I get he brings out on himself because AJ fatigue but but like

he's the only one acting ridiculous what is he doing what he said he said

he said he used me without using me read a book on the side yeah I'll take it

I'll take a great see very well he's very good at the minimum damn good and

what's your replacement plan what's your replacement draft you so you're

gonna draft a guy that's expected to come in and do it AJ does for this

offense but we can't but we can't we can't find up we can't find a pass

damn show final receiver in the first round I think we're missing the point

Eagles better I don't think that is it and that the how they replace him will

probably not be AJ Brown level the point is the guy doesn't want to be here

or not that he does not want to be an eagle anymore you know what this is so

forcing that guy to be an eagle is setting up a pressure of course a situation

where as soon as he doesn't get the ball things happen and it compounds he's

that especially if he's gonna get out now he's like I'm here for another year

I'm gonna do this again you know what AJ you know what AJ is and everybody

in here can relate to this that's in a relationship AJ is the young lady

that when you ask her what do you want to eat she say hey I'm hungry you say

what do you want to eat I don't know what you want to eat right and you say okay

well let's go eat peace I want to eat no peace oh let's go try I want to eat no

Chinese that's AJ AJ's passive regrets he doesn't know what he wants he just

like he said there went because he's sitting there with two guys that he probably

grew up idolizing and didn't know how to act in a situation but here's the

other important point and he wants to he wants to be successful Joe he wants to catch the football Joe

who that's what everybody wants let me tell you he's been successful since the moment he got

Joe he wants to be more successful let me tell you what I don't want but for his own stats

not the team but let me tell you what I said it's never about the team listen it's all like when

it comes receivers they're built different now and let me tell you what I don't want when it

becomes a receiver I don't want to receive on my team that don't want the football amen amen that's

it like that's the bottom line that isn't a quality AJ and Devonte AJ and Devonte are the same guy

AJ just lets his emotions out exactly and that's that's the problem that's the problem that's the problem

that's the problem have we thought about the next stage though like we're acting as if it's the

same every year it's not it's getting progressively worse that's why we got the brain

right so talk me through the next stage when you trade him they trade in the day you're all happy

no like next stage of keeping him no but yes you're focusing on what could go bad the next stage

trading him as you either draft the guy you're like someone and it's not as good it's been so you get a

first round big but but again it's it the situation is what it is like you can't convince AJ to

change his mind about how he feels so I think a you can try number one you could pay him which

I'm trying check me Laurie went out to the field to talk to and what happened the rest of the year

he was nothing good he was quiet not no more tweets no more social media posts he stopped talking

to the media like yeah see he bailed after last game he just left I think at his core AJ is a good

teammate and so I think while we can talk about what he might blow these things up I don't think AJ

is a jump in the pool guy I think he'll put his two feet in he'll have leaks through the media all

that but he is not going to wreck a season for a locker room of guys he cares about so I would call

his bluff all right you don't want to be here let's see if you'll ruin your career I don't think

you will but what is the end game there I guess though having great players okay in the perfect

world he comes back and he's happy right that that's probably not good why have I asked my

are making it out to be but what is the end game you think this game is trying to win the game

yeah what are they trying to win the football next year but by that argument why not trade sake one

you'll get more for sake one now than you will say one is not asking not to be here right that

complicate but if your argument is trading AJ because you can get value for him then that doesn't

really have to do it whether you want to be checking a lot of boxes doesn't want to be here most

value now and I'm also putting a new offense in like do we think this is good for jail on hurts

if AJ's barking out but what about the box of really good receiver yeah but what about Jalen hurts

I mean you've talked about I agree it's so you're you're gonna yeah right is the quarterbacks you're

gonna put him through another year where if AJ doesn't he has to think about AJ as he's running

the offense he has to think I got to make sure this guy's happy and not maybe not throw the ball

of the receiver I should because I got to make my guy happy or else he's gonna be a little what

what and then he's going to talk about me in public and I'm gonna have to yet again put my face

forward and not say a damn word about it even though you know he's upset about it like that's an

unfair situation why are we treating why are we treating Jalen like he's a child I mean what what

is AJ in this no he's a child Jalen's act but here's the situation all like all I hear when we

we talk about this is is Jalen saying that the office is gonna look like and he wants it to look

and Jalen's the leader of the squad if this on anybody to fix this or make it better or make it

work it's on Jalen because he's on the field with me we we we sit here and we talk about how much

of a leader Jalen is and we talk about how much of a great guy is and people get pissed every time

he mentioned his name and say something bad about him but when it comes to being a leader on the team

we don't hold his feet to the fire for that how how is that how can he be all of this stuff that we

say he is wait a minute me finish how can we say he all of this stuff but he can't make this

relationship work with somebody that's passive aggressive well what but AJ Brown has let us know

that he cares more about getting the football than winning games he said it after the Superbowl

okay the Superbowl and he's like well you know what and you know what I would do but hold on if

you're Jalen to your point just to finish that point about all I care about winning going out

you got a guy out there who doesn't care I'm as much about the wins as he does about you giving him

the football isn't that a problem and you know what you know what the problem is it's obvious to me

that neither one of these guys want that smoke because if it I'm just saying if it's me or if it's

one of my teammates I'm not talking to the media I'm talking to you so somebody has to be a man

that hasn't got to be finished that somebody what that's what I'm saying he ain't saying nothing

he's the leader of the team he's the quarterback if the if the receiver has a problem I got the pool

in the locker room hell if you don't want to be here I get you ask somebody here or you're going to

fall in line he hasn't done any of that wait a minute let me finish when you we hear and we sit

and talk to Jalen he asks hey have you talked to have you talked to uh AJ no he's the leader he's

the he's the quarterback don't you if you feel that you're being pressured to getting the football

and it's going to the detriment of the team whose job is to say something but this isn't this isn't

uh preschool like at some point it's no no no no it's not like it's Joey is preschool I'm good to tell you

these are professionals I am not like why do I have to babysit AJ Brown because he's great at what he

does okay why is down here we're making who is down like he's a replaceable player what is down

enough like you just get another receiver like it's so easy every one last year last year

the and this was not for uh personality issues the sea ox traded decay mecca and they replaced him

with Cooper Cup and they won the Super Bowl Cooper Cup is awesome if you know he's not Cooper Cup is

well over there he's still a very good number it's fine the point is the point is everyone thought

they downgraded a wide receiver their offense was better receivers every year everyone tells me

there's 20 good receivers in the draft yet we have we're oh my god if we lose AJ just get another

receiver I think it's a really good comp it's a perfect it's way we have it's so hard to go get

another defensive in in the draft yes you I say this all the time none of these guys okay so we

don't we don't need max cross we didn't right if we're doing that if we if we're taking that he's not

here he's not here asking out like the headache is not worth it okay show me in print when

he asked you you know it's not important I'm not I know it's not it just Joey's passive

the headache is not in the Novak or the Jefferson Health Center the way we think it is I think they

are bigger fans of AJ than they make it out to be I think they mostly all like AJ they get

annoyed by him right I agree that from the outside it's use distraction I don't think that's

the case in the building but I'll also ask you guys this to Jalen because I agree it's unfair to

Jalen that he has to deal with this that AJ takes part to a degree in painting the perception that

Jalen's a problem with the passing game if you asked Jalen point blank today how he called Jalen

I can trade AJ should I do it or should I not what do we think Jalen would say no I think he

would say keep AJ because despite all the headaches despite all the headaches he might cause

strongly disagree AJ helps Jalen on that field way more than it's a headache to deal with

our are we sure he will continue to help like he used to I saw a guy slowing down last year like

that adds to it if this is three years ago AJ I think this is a different conversation as he

might be cooked in a year he might be he might be and like he cooked now he might look up his

year we had a whole discussion would you trade all this for Max Crosby's got a bad knee AJ had

his knee drained during the playoff run had a hamstring issue last year I mean like what are we

talking about but he still yes he might not be a top three four receiver anymore he's still a top

10 receiver are we sure I'm not sure yes I honestly I think he's probably like 15 I think you're

close to I think with his skill set he could still be a threat in this offense yeah but that's

great if he's if he wants to be here but I'm not I'm not going to hold a threat hostage that's

what I feel like we're doing this just to spite ourselves like this is no but that's not the

reason the reason is they need good receivers to be a competitive football team and they have one

right now so if you can make it work with him that's an easier path but you don't have that AJ

brown level good again to Joe's point we just saw them when Cooper Cup I mean like with the

chiefs want a Super Bowl against us with Kaderius Tony and Skymore and they had Patrick Mahomes

and I know what you have a lot and they had Travis Kelsey Travis Kelsey's essentially a wide

receiver one yeah right to vehicles have Devonte Smith so I'm right not a wide receiver one I think

he could be I don't know he could be but there's a big difference between wearing the crowd and

being the guy next to him this is similar in terms of talent right now I thought Devonte was

the better receiver he definitely wanted to why because all the coverage still goes to AJ

and Devonte have 130 yards in the game AJ didn't even play yeah that's one game against the jets

that's not a big sample to go back to the meccaf thing no one knew Jackson Smith the Jigba

could do what he didn't except the Seahawks they moved meccaf out and they gave him the ball and

he won offensive player the year yeah teams win Super Bowls in different ways the Eagles one of

Super World their backup quarterback I don't think they should advocate to try out that that

ultimately at the end of the day you want to keep the most talented players you can and AJ is a

talented player got to keep that talent though he doesn't want to be here it's like it's this is

a lot of AJ Brown his agent canvassing trades for the team and I said he's not AJ how good is he

it's AJ going around saying please get me ahead and fill it up like that was hyper bomb yeah I think

you are your head is in the sand yeah I think with great with great players with great players you

have to put up with more it is what it is yeah that's a good that's a good stuff I think your head

is so far in the sand that ain't what you want to say you can't even know where your head is all right
