March 19th, Identity Crisis. Have you ever had an experience that made you question
who you are? Maybe you found out you were adopted, or maybe you uncovered a shameful
family secret? These things can make us re-evaluate what defines us. And when we don't have
answers, we're lost and adrift. So how, as believers, are we to deal with such a real
and complex issue? Today, we'll hear from Geraldine, a woman who thought she knew her family
until a dark secret brought her world to a screeching halt. Here is her true story,
and how she faced her own Identity Crisis on this unshackled, daily devotional.
My stepfather disliked me and his father molested me until I was ten. Mother put a stop
to that when she found out, but I was left with feelings of guilt. After graduation,
I spent two years in New York sowing my wild oats. We had a stormy courtship, and I
was pregnant when we were married, but we loved each other very much. We had a daughter
and a son. A man at work tried to tell me about Jesus, but I rebuffed him. Then after
a bad accident in which the car was totalled, I began secretly reading the Bible. I began
weeping, realizing I was a lost sinner. At that moment, the phone rang. It was my friend
from work whose church was praying for me. He came and led me to Christ. In less than
two months, my whole family was saved. A few years before my mother died, she told me
about the insist in her family. Her father was really my father too. Please listen. Abortion
isn't the answer to insist. Jesus is. Without Christ, that news would have destroyed
me, but I know that he died to set me free of guilt and shame.
The Apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 1 verses 18 and 19, for as much as you know that you
were not redeemed with corruptible things, a silver and gold, from your vain conversation
received by tradition from your fathers. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of
a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Friends, I have good news for you. Your identity is not founded on your demographics, your
race, your personality or even your family line. Christ offered himself for you. He's called
you worthy, and because of that, and that alone, you are. No questions asked.
So if you are currently struggling with an identity crisis, I pray you will find comfort
in the unshakable value Jesus has already given you. Will you receive this truth today?
