In a world where no stars are healthy, who should be the sixers number one score?
B.J. Edgecomb, we'll break it all down in more in this edition of Lockdown 76ers.

Keith Pompey, long time 76ers, beat rider, Mark Farr is at a long time, Philly sports
talker with you.
We'll start at the end here, Keith Pompey.
We got to, Joel and Pete already listed this out for tonight, that's as of 15 minutes
ago.
We'll continue to monitor that.
We don't expect any change there, and maybe do Keith, I don't know, we'll get into
it.
We'll get into the road trip, the three game road trip, and this is a question, this
is a legit question because when you have a coach saying one thing and the player is
doing something else, that to me begs the question.
What's the deal?
All right.
So Keith, I'll just ask you this.
What's the deal with who the sixers number one score should be in a time without Joel
and B. V.J. H. Cump, Paul George, Tyrese Maxi, Kelly Ubrey, it's down to Quinn Grimes,
it's down to V.J. H. Cump, it's a campaign coming off the bed.
Right now, who should be the sixers number one option to score the basketball?
You know, that's a great question because after what I said yesterday, you would think
that it would be Quentin Grimes, right, you would think.
But for the sixers, in order for them to like build the future and because we don't know
if Quentin's coming back next year or not, we don't know if campaign's coming back.
You know, if you're the sixers, you really want V.J. H. Cump to take over.
You want him to show everyone why he was selected third overall, right?
But with that being said, you don't want V.J. edge comb to like four shots and do all
like things when he's not making shots.
Like, you know, you don't need him to go six for 35 or, you know, I mean, just don't
need that.
So you want him to like be aggressive, but at the same time, if it's not working and
somebody's open to swing the ball, right?
We all know that when the sixers are depleted, that Quentin Grimes has shown last year that
he can be an elite scorer for them, right?
So you already know that.
But if you're the sixers, if he's making shots, you do want V.J. edge comb to be the guy,
but at this particular time, he's really inconsistent and you don't want to go down
with him gunning and you're losing if that makes sense to you.
No, absolutely.
Like to me, it's not about development anymore for V.J. edge comb.
I mean, that's going to be certainly a factor going forward, but right now with about
a month left in the season, he is what he is.
I don't see him in the next month taking some hugely forward.
All of a sudden, he's dropping another 30 points in the game.
I mean, it could happen.
He could get hot from three like he did in his first pro game against the Celtics to open
up the season.
But I just don't think that that's the safe bet right now.
The safe bet for him is just try to get a little bit better.
Not be the number one guy, not be the number one score.
Hell, even Nick nursing, I want you to take 20 shots.
It's like, okay, I appreciate the encouragement.
I appreciate you telling him, all right, let's get it going a little bit more offensively
and depend on yourself to score more than anybody else.
But for me, it's not about necessarily just the development of VJ Edgecom even in a time
where you don't have your normal stars.
For me, it's about how good can this team be when the playoffs start?
And one of those two players, VJ Edgecom and Quentin Grimes is going to have their role
changed the most drastic when the guys do come back.
And that guy's role who's going to change the most is VJ Edgecom.
So I rather him stay as a secondary option, a third option, maybe for the six years and
scoring the basketball, whereas Quentin Grimes could be called upon to be the guy to come
off the bench and not let you miss Jared McCain as much as you have missed Jared McCain
coming off the bench.
You could also look to campaign for something like that.
But most notably, right now, if Quentin Grimes can give you the type of production that
he's giving you right now, not saying he's going to close out games in the fourth quarter,
but if he can give you that same type of scoring or similar to in the limited minutes, he's
going to get what everybody else gets back, then I wanted to continue that because I don't
see VJ Edgecom being able to do that.
I see VJ Edgecom kind of staying more along the lines of what he is now, which is still
an option to score, but not the number one guy.
I want to see him get better at facilitating, bringing the ball up.
Yes, you're being more aggressive when the shot or the drive lane is there, but I think
all that's going to change drastically for him, whereas Quentin Grimes can still come
out with the second unit and be a number one or number two guy trying to score the basketball.
So for me, I think it remains what it's been.
Quentin Grimes being the number one guy.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, you know, especially the success he had now again, like for the sixers, like you
said, moving forward, like I said, moving forward is one of those things for VJ, right?
But right about now, they got to try to get some victories.
They got to be competitive, you know?
And as much as Nick Nurse wants to say, yeah, we need this guy to do this and do that.
Bro, if you don't get these victories and stuff like that, you might not be here next
year.
So it's all about trying to just get the best in the, I mean, you know, VJ is just a
little bit too inconsistent as Phil W says, right?
He's just too inconsistent right now.
And you got to go with somebody that you have more confidence in at this particular time
to be able to do stuff.
And the thing about it is, like you said, about VJ is one of those things where, you know,
his role is going to change and get different.
This is the first time as a pro that people are collapsing on him and trying to take him
out of the game as a first option.
So to me, it's like, you can't just put your head down and keep going out there and
doing whatever you can, you got to, you got to know the game.
You got to realize what's happening and you got to make winning plays and going out there
trying to score 100 points or whatever.
That's not a winning play, you know, when you got a one on three situation, that's not
a winning play.
So you are right.
You got to go with Quentin.
You got to go with him.
And I'll admit, I'm, I might be a little late to this party.
I mean, we were talking about it last week when you knew you were going to be without
Kelly Ubrei, along with everybody else you're going to be without.
I was talking about how I wanted to see this time of VJ Edge come.
Hey, you could be the number one guy.
I want to see you be more aggressive.
I talked about the time he had Duncan Robinson spinning in circles and opted not to take
it to the rack, not to shoot the three, but instead dished off to Quentin Grimes.
Like, I wanted to see him be more aggressive.
Well, I haven't seen it.
All right.
For me, if that was a test for him, fail, move on.
And moving on right now is all about being the best version of the 76 years you could
be, even without the normal stars out there.
And that, to me, looks like Quentin Grimes being the number one guy.
You have been saying that for a while that you really got to concentrate more on him
because VJ has got to get used to this whole of the world.
And the VJ is credit.
I mean, I'll credit him with this.
There's a lot of things I like about his game.
You've mentioned the inconsistency Phil sent it in the chat as well.
And it's certainly something worth highlighting.
But the other thing is I don't, I don't look at VJ as come as a guy that really ever forces
the issue.
And I mean that as a, as obviously a compliment, he, I think he knows what he is right now.
I think he knows that there might be a better option to score IE Quentin Grimes or a hot
Justin Edwards from three or a hot campaign.
He really does a good job of kind of being a chameleon within the offense, whether that's
with or without the stars.
If somebody else has got the hot hand, if somebody else is one on one where he might be double
team, or somebody else is open because he's getting double team, he knows to try to find
that guy.
I mean, that's one of the things that was a big compliment to him about around the draft,
which was that he's a very heavy player.
He's got a good head on his shoulders, a smart player, and you're seeing that now.
So you, you look after the net's game, for instance, he comes out 10 points in the first
quarter, six points the rest of the way.
He admits to after the game saying that he's not used to guys having to double team him.
He's not used to guys triple teaming him, essentially, he's not used to trying to fight
his way through that, especially at the NBA level, let a little baler.
So I really applaud him for understanding what he is right now and not trying to do too
much.
And in fact, sometimes, yeah, I wanted to do a little bit more, but at this point in the
season, I think he is what he is.
He does a good job of playing with a good head on his shoulders, not trying to do too much,
not making turnovers, finding his teammates, getting rebounds, playing good defense, having
a high motor.
But when it comes to the offensive scoring aspect of it, that's really a little, a little
too inconsistent.
And it depends on making sure he can find that hot head.
Yeah.
Now, the one thing I will say about Quentin tonight that he's going to have to show us,
he's going to have to show us that he can go back to making some threes, right?
So the last, here we go, the last five games, and we know the last game he had 31 points.
He was the guy, but from three, he shot one for four.
The game before that, one for six, before that, one for eight, before that, oh for four,
and before that two for eight.
So it's one of those things where he's going to have to knock down some threes.
Now, if he knocks down some shots, it's going to open more things up for VJ and other
guys, right?
To do other things, because what's going to happen is like right now, if I'm a team,
I'm just like, okay, bro, I know we know you can make, we know in the past, you can
make shots, but right about now, you haven't.
So in order for us to like close out on you and do certain things, you're going to have
to hit a couple of us, a couple of them.
But if he does that, then I think that's going to open up more things with VJ, doing his
straight lines to the basket, doing other things.
So to me, again, he's been doing very well from within, you know, two point range, but
what he needs to do is he needs to knock down some shots that's going to be able to open,
stretch the floor, do some other thing for the sixers, you know, that's what's really
going to have to happen tonight.
With the there 100% when we come back, we'll take a look at this road trip again.
When it comes to taking on Nicola Yokech and the Denver Nuggets tonight, then also taking
on Sacramento and rounding it out before they have, I always like it's Sacramento.
I had it in front of me, then I was looking at Grimes' numbers with you, Denver Sacramento
than Utah.

One final time the official three game road trip for the sixers, you got Denver tonight
then you got Thursday night with the Sacramento Kings 10 o'clock tip off and then Saturday
against Utah against the jazz 9 30 Saturday night.
We've talked about what that Sacramento game could be for the sixers, whether that the
Kings are going to get up for that type of game, whether that B.J. Edge coming a spaley
get up for one another going head to head for most likely, most likely going head to head
for the first time that Saturday assuming both will be up and ready for that one.
But Denver tonight, the official report has not changed.
I just checked it tonight, broom out, dwell and beat out Paul George out, Tyrese Maxley
out Kelly Ubrey out, David Terry, hey, questionable, Javari Walker out.
Yeah, that's tough.
Well, all right, let's just go one by one, Denver now gets tonight, what do you feel about
this one?
You know, I don't feel, I don't feel, if, if Joe LNB play, if Paul George play or if Tyrese
Maxley play, I really wouldn't feel good about this game.
I just wouldn't and the reason being is that, you know, I look at it in altitude, I look
at it that, you know, Joel hasn't only played there once and that was in 2019.
I also look at a guy like Jamal Murray, right?
And Jamal Murray is a guy that we know is probably the best non-all star in the league, right?
A guy that's always getting the all star snub before last night, before the last game that
they played, he had a 39 point performance in the game before that he had third.
The last game that they played, he had arguably one of his worst games of his career where
he had five points on one for 14 shooting and he was one for seven on threes.
It was an overtime road loss to the Lakers.
I look at this as the Jamal Murray, I am who I said I am bounce back again, right?
Now the thing is, when we look at that, we look at the 76ers and we see how opposing guards
have been able to have their will with the 6ers for opposing perimeter players.
I feel like the Jamal Murray is going to be a handful against the 6ers, I do.
I really do now, he fouled out that game, right?
But he just was horrible and I just feel like when they say NBA players, good NBA players
do not have back-to-back bad games.
So I'm looking for him to bounce back and without a Tyrese Maxi with all these other guys injured,
I'm looking for Jamal to have a solid performance against the 6ers, I really do.
Who would you have autumn tonight defensively?
You know what, that's a great question.
When we look at him, you're going to say, is either going to have to be Quentin Grimes
or is going to have to be Vijay?
I'm going to be there.
Yeah, I mean, Vijay, but the thing about Vijay, he's still young too and he could probably
get in the foul trouble, but you may have to say Vijay.
Yeah, Vijay.
Vijay.
There's going to be a tough two-way game for him.
Don't talk about Vijay, you know?
Yeah, the reason I say Vijay, now, okay, everything I just said about Vijay's development
and to hell with that, offensively speaking, yeah, but defensively speaking,
this is where he got to talk about the other end of the court too, I want Vijay to have that
growing pain.
I want him to go up against a guy like Jamal Murray, a guy that's going to be making sure
that the defense keeps her head on a swivel the entire time, especially the guy that's guarding him.
I want Vijay to have that experience to just see what it's like to guard a guy like that.
Quentin, I would love to see him focus on the offensive side of things.
So for me, I definitely put Vijay Edge come on Jamal Murray time.
If Jamal Murray cooks, Jamal Murray cooks.
If not, maybe Vijay has him.
Maybe this is a struggle, maybe this is a struggle time for Jamal Murray and maybe even Vijay
comes out of this if Jamal Murray is not shooting the ball really well right now.
Maybe Vijay comes away with a little bit of confidence as well.
Hey, look who I got in the face of and help him do another struggle filled night shooting.
For me, defensively speaking, I let Vijay do that.
Now, if you don't go Vijay, if you don't go Vijay, how do you feel about Justin Edwards on them?
I feel like the second Jamal Murray puts the ball on the floor, he's by Justin Edwards.
And I like Justin Edwards that that's more of a compliment to Jamal, Jamal Murray than it is.
A knock on Justin Edwards.
But again, another younger player, get that experience, have a chance to do it.
You have a little bit of length there when you talk about Justin Edwards versus Vijay Edge come
Clinton Grimes. So I wouldn't hate it, but he would be my
distant third if it wasn't Grimes or Vijay.
Yeah, and the reason why I brought his name up is because if you remember last year,
it was Justin Edwards was the guy who was basically defending the opposing teams like perimeter
players or wings and things like that.
But the guy Christian Brown, I'm also concerned about him a little bit because when he gets
going, he can be a guy now again. If everybody's focusing on Jamal Murray,
and then we also know about the Joker and we also know about Eric Gorton.
This is just going to be a bad matchup for them.
But the Brown guy, you know what, he can knock down some shots against them, right?
And we're talking about a guy who has career averages of 11.2 points
and 2.8 rebounds against the Sixers, right? But mostly coming off the bench.
So to me, I just look at him as being a guy that, okay, well, you're going to have to put
somebody on a Joker, Eric Gorton, you're going to have to, you know, make sure that he doesn't
go off against you. And then Brown could be a guy that's just going to be, okay, you got your
fourth or fifth best defender on me. And I'm going to have a field day. So, you know,
loser, it's just a bad matchup for the Sixers right now with all these guys out.
Yeah, he's Christian Bronze a guy that is an under the radar type guy.
I remember he had a good game against Oklahoma City about a month or so ago. That was an
overtime game. He put up 20 plus in that one, but that was also a game on the other side of
things there for Jamal Murray, where he went off for near 40 points in that one against the Oklahoma
City Thunder. So yeah, that's a good guy to mention though. A guy that can either come off the bench,
a guy that could start, and a guy that could also surprise you with a couple of threes as well. So
that is certainly a good one. All right, when we come back, we'll go through this one thing on,
not just Duel and B, but other members of this 76ers squad when it comes to this road trip.
And it also comes to shortly thereafter with Paul Jordan, something Nick Nurse said. We'll
get to that more when we return. This is locked on 76ers and a locked on 76ers YouTube channel.

Oklahoma City. Then they're going to be back still at home against the Chicago Bulls. That's
the first game that Paul George is going to be off and running. Nick Nurse said last week
that Paul George isn't going to need a ramp up period. From everything he's hearing, he's not
going to need a ramp up here. He's going to be ready to go when he comes back. How much are you
buying that when it comes to PJ? I mean, I buy it just because like, you know, he's allowed to practice.
You know, he's allowed to do a lot of things. He's just not allowed to play in games and,
you know, be with the team, you know, at the game, whatever. So, you know, it's one of those
things where I think he's doing the ramp up period. You know, right now, leading the
what is it? The backups like the, you know, the scout team, so to speak. So I'm buying that one.
I am. I am. I mean, you know, it's not like he's been injured or anything like that. He's out
there playing. He's getting the ball. He's, you know, getting ball and getting time. And in
the Paul George is one of those guys, you know, he's the all star, former all star, a professional
when it comes down to workouts. So he's putting in the extra work, you know, they do all that stuff.
So yeah, I'm buying that one. I'm buying that one. So he's allowed to like run with the second
unit and stuff at practice. Yeah, yeah, he's allowed to be at that run with the second unit,
be it there. Like, you know, he's even been, you know, been at shootarounds and stuff like that. It's
just that, you know, when games go on, he's not, you know, with the team on the bench and things
like that. But yeah, he's allowed to practice with the team. All right. If you had to put a percentage
on it, I know everyone hates these questions, but I really want to try to make this as clear as possible.
Because I'm going to go ahead and put it at 10%. All right. There's, I think there's a 10% chance
that Joelle and Bede plays on this road trip. If you had to put a percentage on it,
does Joelle and Bede play on this road trip? I would say probably 5%.
I think that, you know, I kind of think I'm on with you. Like, you know, I mean, part of the thing is
when they say, when a guy has been out for an extended period of time, right? And we see where
the 76s aren't practicing, right? Okay, they're not practicing the day they're doing this and that.
Now, let's just say if they practice in between tonight's game and the next game in Sacramento.
Now, if they have practice, then, then I may say, maybe, but typically when you have a guy that's
been out for extended period of time, you want to see how he does that practice. And then you
also want to see how his body responds. And sometimes you may have more than one practice
to get them up to speed. You just don't want to throw the guy out there. So the fact that they
haven't been practicing and I get it, you know, Joelle may do low-minute stuff or he may do stuff
with people, you know, the player development team and staff like that. But to me,
I really think that is one of those things where you want to get them out there practicing. And
they don't practice tomorrow on Wednesday or they don't practice on Thursday. I just don't see it.
I don't see it at all. I don't. Yeah, I'm still, I'm still very much, I thought I was going low
with 10%. And yeah, you outload me. So, all right, there we are. All right, well, we hope
you get them back. Hope I still I still look at March 25. It could be good.
Could be good. I look, I'm rooting for it to me tonight. But it could happen.
But here's the thing. I'll say this. I'll say this. Yeah, after the 25th, they have two days,
right? So, you know what I mean? Like if it doesn't happen that day, like on the 26th, they could
practice and then they could have a practice on the 27th before they head to Charlotte for the 28.
So it could be, you know, it could be the 25th or it could be that game, you know, it could be the
28th. All right. His name is Keith Pompey. Make sure you guys are following Keith Pompey on all
