Folks, the Marlins had a tough series in Atlanta.
They lost two out of three.
They could have had a series when they're for the first time in four years.
They blew it on Saturday.
They didn't look great on rather they blew it on Wednesday.
They did not look great on Tuesday either as Pete Fairbanks gave up that game winning double
that sealed the game.
Then at this stage in the season, the Marlins are nine and ten.
They're tied for the Nationals with second in the NL East three games back of Atlanta
for first and they sit just half a game ahead of the Phillies while the struggling New
York Mets are five games ahead or five games behind a first place as well.
What have we learned about these Miami Marlins here?
Nineteen games through the twenty twenty six season.
Obviously, it's still very early.
This team has shown spurts of putting things together, but it has been far from consistent
at this point.
The Marlins were one in five on this road trip.
They were swept in Detroit before losing two of three to Atlanta.
That Tiger series was as unlucky and as ugly as it gets.
It was a total wash.
The Atlanta series, on the other hand, an example of the what it could have showed us that
can stack up that have stacked up for the Marlins here early on in twenty twenty six.
I talked about it just before you have Fairbanks blow that game in the middle of the series and
then it was too little too late to come back in the series finale as well.
This is going to be a streaky team.
I think that's first and foremost.
They're just going to have to catch fire at several points during this season.
If they want to be around that 80 to 83 win mark and qualify, maybe get in, sneak in as
a wild card team, that was my expectation for this team heading into twenty twenty six.
Right now they're on pace for seventy seven wins that falls just below that threshold.
I had them pegged between 80 and 83 games.
I know I'm not alone in that.
I know that we all feel that this team can achieve significant milestones as we go about
this season and they have to stick on that pace and pull out these coin flip games, coin
flip games like they had in Atlanta in New York while pacing the Yankees earlier in this
series.
Those two games against the reds, the first couple of games of that four game series in
the last homestand.
Those are the ones that are going to come back to bite you down the road.
Those are the games you have to win and settle those that way when you're thinking about
September, you can check off what you were able to do in April and realize that you've
come so far in this last road trip.
I felt like the Marlins were competitive in five out of those six games.
The pitching kept things close in game one into trade.
It was either the pitching or the hitting that kept them in it.
It was never everything firing on all cylinders except for that first game in Atlanta, that
10-4 win where everything came together in the right way.
Pitching kept things close in the first game in Detroit.
Janssen, Junk and Sandial Contra didn't do what they needed to do across the last two
games of the series and of course the offense was basically nowhere to be found in Detroit.
The bats carried them in Atlanta in the first game.
They gave them an early lead in game two.
They had a 4-0 lead after the second inning only for the bullpen to ultimately blow it
by the end and then pitching did keep things close in game three on Wednesday before things
ultimately did not fall the Marlins way.
I feel as though this trip reinforced that this team has the talent to be successful this
season but they just have to execute day to day and avoid these rough stretches.
They've shown that they really have struggled on the road.
They are two and seven overall to start this season away from Lone Depot Park as they
now come back.
They start a series with the Milwaukee Brewers today.
They'll play them through Sunday and then welcome in the St. Louis Cardinals as well.
Offensively I felt like what we saw with this team especially in the first game against
Atlanta.
They had the home runs from Augustine Ramirez and Connor Norby.
That was great to see.
The 16 hits everything was clicking for them in that game and it was great to see from
Gus his first home run of the season.
He's looking more comfortable in those tough spots and for Connor Norby this is a guy that
was definitely under the microscope to start this season based off of how last year went
for him.
He's now off to an eight game hitting streak here these last several games.
His averages now up to 273 so hey maybe Connor Norby is finally putting things together when
he's got that Mojo going he can be a really solid player.
The first base side of things for him.
It's taking some time to come around obviously the marlins have kind of thrown in the male
bag here as far as first base is concerned with Christopher Morelle on the injured list.
A couple of things negatively to speak of offensively for the fish that were some of my takeaways
from this past series.
Oh in case he looks like he's swinging at absolute air right now.
Even for 17 over his last five games the strikeouts have piled up.
It's tough to see for Casey who was such a spark plug across the first week of the series.
He had that walk off home run and you know things were looking good for him but hopefully
he can figure things out at the top of the order.
I loved what I've seen from Jacob Marcy and Xavier Edwards is the kind of the one
two punch there at the top of the order.
I like that Clayton McCullough is finally sticking with that.
I think we finally saw some relative consistency in the lineup.
These last three games Marcy Edwards.
Some combination of Augustine Ramirez and Liam Hicks in that three and four spot.
I think that's great as far as setting the table goes for those guys.
Hopefully Gus is back continues to come around Hicks had the home run on Wednesday that
made it a six to ball game.
He's leading the team with four home runs right now.
When runners in scoring position situations the Marlins are doing actually pretty well
in that department.
They're sixth in all of Major League Baseball a 288 risk for them.
There was just a couple of a couple of miscues in that department late in the Atlanta series.
A couple of ground ball tubble plays in that series finale against the Braves as well.
One more offense to take away that I had.
I want to see Javier Sonoma play more.
I mean, I think we all kind of agree with that.
He's the guy that has been used as that super utility.
They plug in play him.
I think his bat is good enough that they should find a way to have him out there as much as
possible.
He's played a little bit of third base.
He's played a little bit of left field.
He's the guy that can move around as much as you need him to based on where you need him
to be.
But he's hitting 377 for crying out loud.
He's not hitting enough to be qualified for any of the league leader categories.
But that's just because McCullough refuses to play him every single day.
And I think that if you're going to have a guy like that on the bench, that's great.
That's a great guy to have.
But I just I would like to see him play a little bit more.
I think pitching wise, we learned that Sandy Alcantara is still mortal.
He had the three home runs that he gave up in the Detroit game game where he never looked
comfortable.
It might stem from that previous outing he had against the Reds where he looked fantastic.
God yanked in the ninth only for the fish to blow it.
Hopefully he can bounce back this weekend against the Brewers.
He does have the start on Saturday.
So that will be cool to watch.
Yuri Perez had himself a relatively decent start against the Braves.
He only went for innings gave up five runs in that game.
I'd like to see him get more comfortable as well.
The command and location of the secondary pitches, especially.
He's relied a lot on the fastball.
He's used that about half the time.
He's shown the visible frustration out out there.
But then again, this guy is only 23 years old.
He just turned 23 two days ago.
I'm 23 years old.
I'm done.
I'm doing a podcast.
This guy is throwing in Major League Baseball games against some of the best hitters on
the planet.
This guy is going to come around.
We have to rely on the development around him and see what they can do with a guy like
Yuri Perez.
It's a long season for him.
He's only 23.
I can't wait to see what he can do over the full stretch of the season.
And hopefully he continues to stay healthy.
The other two starters that we saw outside of Janssen junk this past week, Chris Paddock
and Max Meyer.
Paddock has shown some clear signs of improvement in his last two outings.
After the white sock stinger to start the season, he's pitched deeper into ball games.
He went six innings against Detroit.
He went four and two thirds against the Atlanta Braves.
The walks have been practically nonexistent.
He's only walked one in his last two starts and the strikeouts are starting to look good
for him as well.
That underlying command has been there for a guy like Chris Paddock, who was expected
to eat significant innings for the fish this season.
In Max Meyer's case, he had a lot of good stuff in his Atlanta start.
He's shown that he can give you five innings.
I think we've learned that enough from Max Meyer.
He's going to be consistently going to give you at least those five innings.
His slider has looked good.
It remains a plus pitch.
He's getting those ground balls.
He's avoiding those big blow up innings that really ate him alive in his previous
Marlon seasons, especially early on in games.
He's had those moments where runners have gotten on very early against him, but he's had
the opportunity to get out of them pretty much every time.
So that's been good to see from Max and outside of Pete Fairbanks and the bullpen.
It's been mostly solid.
In order to give up some runs on Wednesday, but everyone else seems to be pulling their
weight.
Anthony Benders put together a couple of good outings in a row like Bokker, Michael Peterson,
Tyler Phillips, and John King, who got out of a tough jam after coming in for Chris
Paddock in the series finale.
All of those guys are pulling their weight right now, and that's great to see.
Overall, the Marlon's bullpen with a 330 ERA good for eighth in Major League Baseball.
So that's what we learned from this past road trip, a lot of mixed bag, a lot of things
that we can take with us, a lot of things that we'd like to leave behind.
But coming up next, the Marlon's might be getting some reinforcements here soon.
We're going to take a closer look at what's going on in AAA Jacksonville right now with
some Marlon's rehabbers and what their ultimate returns will mean for this active roster.

This time of year always makes me rethink what's in my closet.
I'm trying to keep fewer things, but better ones.
Pieces that are well made and easy to wear.
That's why you keep on coming back to Quince.
The fabrics feel elevated, the fits are thoughtful, and the pricing just makes sense.
Their men's linen pants and shirts are lightweight, breathable, and comfortable.

The pants strike the right balance between laid back and refines.

With that, let's dig in deeper on the Marlins rehab assignments that are currently underway
in AAA Jacksonville.
In case you are new here to this edition of locked on Marlins, I'm Ethan Eybe and I am the
communications assistant for the Jacksonville jumbo shrimp.
So I help out on the team's media relations efforts and on the broadcast as well.
I help post pre and post game.
So I'm around these guys every single day.
I get to see what's going on down here at the AAA level as the Marlins look to send
up some really good guys and continue to develop a lot of these guys that have gotten
injuries and trades over the last couple of years.
With that said, Kyle Sowers is in town.
He has been here for the last couple of days.
He joined the team in Norfolk last week for to start his rehab assignment following his
right hamstring strain that he aggravated just before the season got underway.
So far in four rehab games, Stowers is two for 14 with an RBI single that came last night
against the Charlotte Knights.
From what I've seen, he is swinging out of his shoes on absolutely everything.
He has been super aggressive at the plate.
He did strike out three times and yesterday's ball game as well, but for him, it's just
about getting that timing back and proving himself that he can get back up to the big leagues
and contribute in a major way because the Marlins are going to need it.
Stowers was unbelievable last year.
25 homeruns, his breakout campaign, he was the lone all star on this Marlins team.
Unfortunately, a left oblique strain ended his season on August 15th.
So the Marlins were without him for the final six weeks.
They were without him for that final push towards the postseason.
And overall, the Marlins have been sorely missing his power, especially with Augustine
Ramirez's slow start at the plate.
He just had his first storm run in Atlanta this past week.
So maybe he's finally turning the corner here in 2026.
But aside from that, Owen Casey, Adolo Pez, Connor Norby, Liam Hicks, those are the only
Marlins with more than one home run this season.
And Hicks leads the team with four.
Hopefully, Stowers can come back up here pretty soon.
I think he'll be ready within a week.
And when that happens, we'll have to discuss who gets sent down.
Who was going to get voted off the island?
Before we dig into that, there's a couple other guys that are here as well on their rehab
assignments.
Maximo Acosta, who came on at the tail end of last year, an S.D.A.R.I.
Ruiz, who was acquired from the Dodgers during the off season as well.
They both began their rehab assignments on Wednesday in Jacksonville against the Charlotte
Knights.
Both are dealing with left oblique strains.
Ruiz's injury is thought to be a tad bit worse than Acosta's.
They've only played in one game so far.
That was on Wednesday.
Ruiz went over three.
Acosta was one for three and they both got the day off yesterday.
When Ruiz comes back, what is going to happen to this Marlins outfield?
It's going to be interesting because Ruiz hasn't he hasn't suited up with it for the Marlins
just yet.
But we know he brings a whole lot of speed to the table.
When Stowers comes back to this conversation, it becomes all the more omnipresent.
Harry Bertha Hernandez is hitting just 149.
Jacob Marsh is hitting 164.
He's not going anywhere.
I'm just saying.
I'm just pointing that out for the sake of pointing that out.
Austin Slater is hitting a buck 90 for a guy that was just signed right before the season
got going.
If Owen Casey continues to struggle, maybe it's him that gets demoted.
You also consider Leo Jimenez, who was acquired a couple of weeks ago, brought on his infield
depth.
He's only appeared in six games.
He's three for 11 at the plate.
I think the most likely circumstance here, if Stowers ends up coming back here soon, is
one of Leo Jimenez or Austin Slater, get DFA'd.
Jimenez was brought in simply as a stopgap.
He's not here for the long term.
And I don't think Slater has done enough to justify keeping him at this point.
He's provided some relatively decent defense in the outfield.
But he was brought in to hit left-handed pitching and you're hitting two.
You're only hitting less than 200.
So I wouldn't be surprised if the Marlins moved on from either of those guys whenever Stowers
and Ruiz come back.
And in Ruiz's case, he was acquired on December 30th in exchange for Adriano Marrero, a
Cuban right-hander from the minors.
He led all of the American League in stolen bases in 2023.
67.
It was his breakout year when he was with the Oakland days.
He set the AL rookie record surpassing Kenny Lofton's steals.
He had 66 in 1992.
His speed is his best trait.
I saw it in the outfield yesterday or two days ago rather.
He looked really great out there in center field.
He spent most of his time last year in the Dodger system.
He played 19 games at the big league level, but spent most of his time at Triple A Oklahoma
City as well.
Hit 304, 16 home runs.
He does have some sneaky pop in that that.
But the biggest issue with him has been getting on base, a 261 clip in those 19 games with
the Dodgers a year ago.
And also worth noting, he's only 103 right-handed hitting outfielders on this Marlins 40-man roster
when you factor in Erie Berto and Austin Slater as well.
In Maximum, a coast is case.
He's likely going to stay in Triple A once he is fully back.
He has two minor league options left, so it makes sense.
If someone continues to struggle on the infield and the coast is tearing it up in Jacksonville,
I would think that he'd be one of the first guys to get called up.
He did have three home runs, drove into five last year in his cup of coffee in Miami.
He only hit 204, but this is a guy that has shown he can dominate at the Triple A level.
Tonight, you can expect to see Maximum, Asteria Ruiz, and Kyle Stowers.
They will all be in the lineup for tonight's game against the Charlotte Knights in Jacksonville
with Robbie's snowing on the mound.
And before we hit our next break, I do want to touch on what we're seeing at the minor
league level right now as far as starting pitch and goes.
Robbie's snowing had 12 strikeouts his last time out in Norfolk last week.
He's been great to start 2026.
Thomas White started yesterday's ball game against Charlotte.
These are the number.
These are the top left-handed pitching prospects in the Marlins organization and in all of
Major League Baseball at this point.
They are two of the top five.
Thomas White has the number one ranking per MLB pipeline.
Robbie's snowing checks in at number five.
White had been dealing with an injury ahead of this season.
He had theory of assignment starts in Jupiter and in yesterday in his return to Jack's eight
strikeouts over four innings.
The slider had bite.
The fastball was electric.
The changeup had fade.
It was just so cool to finally see him in action.
That was, yeah, that was absolutely incredible.
So overall, a lot going on here in Triple A Jacksonville, a lot of rehab assignments going
on.
You'll see how things transpire here over the next couple of days into the next week when
Stowers gets called back up.
We'll see what the corresponding move ultimately becomes.
And of course, no word yet on Christopher Morrell or Griffin Coneyne as far as rehab assignments
for them.
It's way too early for Griffey.
He just had surgery after he was hurt last week.
And then with Morrell's case, we hope to hear some news soon.
He has been out for this entire season so far.
He's also been dealing with an oblique strain.
Norby has handled most of his time at first space.
So that's a conversation we can have whenever Morrell is close to coming back.
How the Marlins will choose to play this.
With that said, it's time to talk about the Marlins and Brewery series coming up here.
We'll take a closer look at what to expect.
I'll give you my eye of Xi on exactly what to look out for this weekend.
And before we get into that, a message from Rugeet.

With that said, let's talk marlins, let's talk brewers.
This is going to be a pivotal series for the marlins.
As they look to get back to 500, this is where you have to make it count.
The brewers are a good team.
They were in the NLCS last year.
They've made some moves, they've- and they answer this series in an interesting spot
themselves.
They're a ten and eight half a game back of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati for first in
the National League Central.
So far this year, they swept the white socks to start.
They won their first three series against the white socks, raised, and red socks.
They got swept surprisingly at home against the Washington Nationals earlier this week,
but they bounced back.
They took two of three against the Toronto Blue Jays, and so they'll head to Miami.
Two games over 500.
Perhaps the biggest story with them is the fact that Christian Yelich will not be around.
Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list with a second degree groin strain.
The expectation for him is a mid to late May return.
He left Sundays game against the Nationals with the injury.
Yelich had been off to a decent start at the plate, 10 runs driven in, a 3-14 hitter,
so there will be no return for Yelich to his old crowd in Miami.
The former Marlins star will not be around.
As of this recording tonight, here's our pitching matchup.
Janssen Junk will go for the Marlins.
We do not know who will start for the Milwaukee Brewers.
For Junk, he's actually facing his old team.
He spent five games as a Milwaukee Brewer in 2024.
He's looking to bounce back after his rough start in Detroit, five runs for the MIRD across
four innings.
His last home start, he looked as good as we've ever seen him against the Cincinnati
Red.
Seven and a third innings.
He took a shot out into the eighth.
Two earned runs, three strikeouts in that ballgame.
He did give up a couple of runs, not a shot out, my mistake.
With that said, it was still really good to see that from Janssen Junk.
He's hitting the high velocity this year pretty consistently.
I saw a really cool article on MLB.com from Jared Greenspan about how Junk went into this
offseason with a different training mentality.
He wanted to try to find a way to stabilize that high velocity because he would hit it
in spurts the fastball at average around 95, but he struggled hitting that on the regular.
He spent the offseason practicing with a lower arm slot going with high intensity throws,
long tosses, athletic throws where he would act like a shortstop and he would use the
track man data to inform him when his slot was creeping up.
So he would usually throw with a 55 degree arm angle last year.
He's lowered that to 48 degrees and he's found that sweet spot where he can use his
foreseemer from that angle and stabilize that velocity.
And typically over the top arm angles like what Janssen Junk had, it makes it easier to
put sort of a backspin on the ball to create some ride.
But this year, despite the lower arm slot, he's actually gained a little bit of ride from
that fastball.
So that's one thing that I found interesting about Janssen Junk and hopefully he can
get back to what we know that he can be tonight against Milwaukee.
The other pitching matchups are as good as it gets for this series.
Brandon Woodruff takes on Sandiel Contra on Saturday, David Misarowski against Jerry Perez
on Sunday.
I feel like Harry Burto Hernandez is a good bounce back candidate for this weekend.
He's actually touched up Woodruff before in his career, three for five lifetime, among
all of the 10 home runs that Harry Burto is hit in his career.
Two of them have come off of Brandon Woodruff.
So how about that?
He's actually done pretty well against Miami.
So far in his career, Woodruff has tossed in six games.
The players have one, five out of those six in the array of 261 and 38 innings for Sandy,
seven games against Milwaukee.
So far in his career, in the array, just north of three.
The Sunday matinee is going to be fantastic between Misarowski and Jerry Perez.
The Miz leads the majors in strikeouts with 33 strikeouts per nine, 13.7 this year.
He's picked up right where he left off from his all-star rookie campaign.
And this will be the first time the Marlins have ever seen Jacob Misarowski.
So a lot to look forward to there.
And hopefully, Jerry Perez, who loves to pitch at home, can come back to the friendly
confines of Lone Depot Park and look comfortable again.
Hopefully, the location is better with his secondary stuff.
I'd be curious to see if the pick smith changes for Yuri this weekend.
We mentioned he relied a lot on that fastball about half the time in his last start.
Maybe if he can find that command again with the off speed, we'll start to see a little
bit more going on there.
Here's my Ives Eye for this week against the Milwaukee Brewers.
This series is going to be one and lost on the base paths.
This Marlins team is running wild right now.
25 stolen bases as a team.
That's tied for second in all of baseball with the Yankees.
Only behind Milwaukee, who's got 27 as a team.
The Marlins group loves to run.
They've only been caught four times.
And that's the fewest among the six teams with over 20 stolen bases this season.
So they're running a lot, not getting caught a lot.
Jacob Marcy leads the crew with eight that second in all of baseball behind Pittsburgh's
O'Neill crews.
It's an organizational philosophy thing.
We've seen the Marlins put a more an increased pressure on the base paths these last couple
of seasons.
Last year, the Marlins were seventh in steals.
They hadn't been ranked that high since 2022 when they finished second in all of baseball
and stolen bases.
It's happening in Triple A Jackson, Bill 2.
The Marlins triple A affiliate stole 305 bases last year.
That's convenient 305.
That was a Jacksonville best Jacksonville mark since 2014.
So it's happening at the minor league level as well.
Here's the catch to this.
The Brewers have done an incredible job controlling the running game this year.
As a group, they've only allowed nine stolen bases.
That leads Major League Baseball.
The rate caught stealings leads Major League Baseball as well.
And it's all thanks to one man, William Contreras.
Seven caught stealings leads Major League Baseball this season.
For as good as the Brewers have been on the base paths, they are just as good at limiting
that.
So for a Marlins team that is so far been running a muck, I am very curious to see how
this plays out here this weekend.
That said, the Marlins are on the opposite end of the spectrum defensively.
For as good as the Brewers are, it's stopping the running game.
That does not exist for the Marlins right now.
The fish have allowed a league leading 26 stolen bases.
Their two caught stealings are tied for the fewest Augustine Ramirez has thrown out two
of 12 base dealers.
Liam Hicks is 0 for 14.
That's one area this team has got to improve in if you want to be able to win in the margins
in the way that the Marlins want to.
With that said, base running is what my eyes eye is on this weekend.
