Both Jennifer Wong and Yumi have had experience with going viral on social media - which they've decided is low-key pointless - but it doesn't mean they're not both dead keen on trying a great hack when other food influencers recommend one...
It might be as simple as using a fish weight when frying a good quality piece of fish...
Or it could be this little hack as tested by Nat's What I Reckon in this video which, at time of publishing this podcast episode, has 11 million views!
BTW if you wanna see Jennifer Wong in person, she has a VERY FOOD RELATED SHOW coming up at Vivid Sydney 2026. More info and a link to the Great Debate that both Yumi and Jen will be on here.

Last time we talked to Jen, I shared my hack about pressing down on fillets of fish
while you're firing them with a fish weight, which I don't have.
So I just used a saucepan with a dumbbell in it or a bottle of water in it
to press down really heavily, and I just, I love that hack.
I know you're into a good kitchen hack.
Yeah, some of them are so simple that they make me laugh when I see them on the internet.
So my favorite one recently is like, so you know, you've all cut into like a sandwich
that's like made of struggle, right?
Like everything's kind of wobbling around, you know, it might be a really thick one or whatever.
And I saw a hack where the top part of the bridge, like if you've got your top half of bread roll or whatever.
A baguette or something?
A baguette.
Something crusty that needs a little bit, you know, has a lot of give, fights against you
when you cut down with that knife.
So you take the top part of that and place it on a flat surface, like a chopping board or a plate or whatever.
Yeah.
And you cut that in half before putting it back on top of the sandwich situation
and then cutting down the rest of the, of the sandwich, you know, doing it like a two-parter.
I saw this on, on Instagram, Brooklyn Bites is an Italian diner in Brooklyn.
Yeah.
And they showed this hack.
And it's like when you see that you're like, of course it makes so much sense, if it's hard.
We did it off into two things.
Yes.
But you don't think of that when you're making a sandwich, because by the time you put that top part of the bread or that begot on top,
you consider it one whole thing.
Yeah.
And you have to cut together.
Yeah.
Don't.
You don't.
Because when you push down to cut it, everything kind of smushes out.
That's right. It's fighting against you.
It is.
You know, it wants to escape.
When we come back, we've got a hack that we want to share from Nats what I reckon,
that how many of you, how many millions of views has this video had?
Oh, just on YouTube it has 11 million views.
Wow.
Okay.
When we come back on your 5 minute views.
We all prefer things a certain way, like groceries.
If you want groceries just how you like them, you've got to try Instacart.
They have a new preference picker that lets you pick how ripe or unripe you want your bananas.
Shoppers can see your preferences up front helping guide their choices.
Because when it comes to groceries, the details matter.
Instacart.
Get groceries just how you like.
I had a horrible day and then I had to borrow a friend's car and drive to a wedding an hour away.
And when I got to the wedding, I was late obviously because I'd been in court and court went over time.
I had to change at the car into a appropriate attire and then go and attend this wedding.
So I was in a state of quite high stress.
But it was a beautiful wedding and I'm glad I attended it.
On the way home, a spider appeared in the car, a big frickin' gigantic spider.
I know.
And so I pulled over because I was like, this is a very big spider.
And this is like low key funny to me because I'm not that scared of spiders.
So I pulled off the road, put the car into park and then pulled out my phone and videoed the spider right.
While I was videoing, the spider turns around and such looking at me, like actually looking at me and then seems to prime itself as though it's going to jump at me.
And I've been jumped on by spiders who look at you and then they go and you can sort of see their little back legs getting ready and spring out.
Wow.
To go and jump at you anyway.
So I filmed this video and it has four million views.
The frickin' spider.
So it's so not who I am.
It's not my work as a feminist.
It's not my court book writing.
It's not anything that I actually do.
It speaks to nothing that you do.
Right.
And it's not going to grow my audience at all.
It's so fun.
I had producers from like late night talk shows in America asking can we get the rights to this video so we can run it on ours.
Oh my goodness.
Wow.
That's hilarious.
Isn't that funny?
Oh my god.
Anyway, so have you ever had a video go viral?
Like if you...
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I've had a video go viral.
I think I'd maybe like to stand up things go viral.
And like again, you don't get any money from it.
And the nice thing is that people in parts of the world that you've never been to kind of write to you and go,
Oh, are you going to ever come to my town?
And you kind of feel like, oh, that's so nice.
We're all connected.
Jen, you shared with me this video from that's what I reckon that went viral.
And I want to just play it for Alice.
Okay, so if you don't know that's what I reckon he's from Newcastle.
He kind of plays like a bogan.
Is that what would you agree with that Jen?
I don't know if that's the word I would use.
Visually, you might think, well, this guy's really into like metal.
Metal.
Like for me, is it?
Yeah.
It's kind of guy that you wouldn't expect to be telling you how to eat better and not rely on a tin tomato sort.
Okay.
You know, based on his appearance, but like that's what he does.
That's what he does.
Yeah.
And he does.
And he's sort of a bit gender non-conforming.
But yeah, it looks like a metal guy, lots of tats, lots of piercings.
And he's a great communicator about food, often swears.
So somebody sent him a video about how to get an avocado pit out of its avocado home out of its home.
Can I tell you a funny story about an avocado injury?
Yes.
So there was a friend of a friend who I wasn't so fond of in our twenties.
And I thought he was a little bit conceited.
And one day he showed up with an injury on his hand, bandage.
And I said, oh, what happened?
He goes, oh, I was trying to get the avocado seed out.
And I cut my hand instead.
And they put the bandage around my hand to stop the swelling.
And I said, oh, why haven't they put the bandage around your head?
Which I thought at the time was such a huge dig.
And I remembered it between me.
And did he know what you were getting at?
I didn't know.
He knew.
That is so good.
You know, but he was smart.
Yeah, yeah.
He was a bit annoying, but he was smart enough to get that.
That's very handy to know.
It is possible to cut your hand trying to get the pip out of an avocado seed.
And that is what Nat is talking about in the video that I want to play for you,
where the hack that he's been shown is a way to get it out without hurting your hand.
And that is expensive and annoying.
So I'm hoping your hack works at your champion.
So I assume you mean pushing the back of it.
Drum roll, please.
We don't have one, but here we go.
Pushing the back of it.
Get.
That's a one and a half.
Oh my god.
It's sort of funny the way that it just plops into the bowl.
So we can leave you with a couple of good hacks today.
But wait on fish.
And if you want to get the seed out of an avocado, you just have it.
And then press on the back of it.
And it pops right out.
What are you looking at?
Just say you got it.
You got them, though.
