LSU’s third spring practice brought the pads — and a much more physical edge.
On today’s episode, we break down everything we saw from the Tigers’ first padded workout of the spring, including a new-look first team on both sides of the ball. Landen Clark continues to run with the ones, Harlem Berry gets his shot with the top unit and brings some attitude, and the tempo under Lane Kiffin is already impacting how reps are distributed.
We also dive into the quarterback room after a shaky team period for Husan Longstreet, what it means early in the competition, and how the defense is adjusting to the pace. Plus, key absences, returning players to monitor, and early risers through three practices.
If this is what LSU looks like in pads, what comes next could define the spring.

Tigers wrap up day three of spring practice and some big movement on the defensive line will fill you in locked on LSU. Here we go.
You are locked on LSU. Your daily podcast on the LSU Tigers. Part of the locked on podcast network. Your team every day.
Okay, let's get it. It is locked on LSU. Your team every day. I'm your host Matt Musconi. Thanks so much for making us your first listen LSU.
Went through a workout Saturday morning into the early afternoon outdoors at the McClendon practice facility.
The third workout spring the first time so far and spring the show the team has done shoulder pads.
So there was a little bit of contact during the 11 on 11 period that we got the saw got to see so.
We will walk you through our notes from practice if you're new to the practice sports welcome glad you're here.
The media got to watch about 30 minutes of practice and as from the first two the same here on Saturday we got to watch a one period of 11 on 11.
So when the team first comes out they run a hurry up no heartle period with the offense running running basically an offensive series the length of the field in a hurry up setting.
The first it's ones on ones on one field who's on twos on another field so I'll run through who is with the ones in the twos in just a second but I think the most notable thing to talk about today is on the defensive line where there are a couple of of significant things to discuss.
If you remember from practice to the most notable part was this the first two defensive lineman with the ones were true freshman early and roll these douche jarls and Richard Anderson let changed on Saturday.
Duce Gerald's was still with the ones ones but Auburn transfer Malik blocked and came over and ran with the ones the second defensive tackles were dominant McKinley and Richard Anderson again I don't think we should make much of this at all.
It is the third practice of spring spring is an amazing time to use 15 practices to basically mix and match and taste and try an experiment and see and get a lot of different guys reps and a lot of different spaces so I like that we're seeing some fluidity there.
As one LSU longtime staff member told me out at practice on Saturday that he felt because of the tempo not only the tempo at practice just how quickly they move between drills to efficiently use their time but how fast the offense goes his opinion was more guys are getting more reps than you would normally see in spring so that was an interesting observation I thought so.
So the defensive tackle shift was one the other certainly notable observation was that Gabe Relifer was not present at practice on Saturday during the media viewing portion so Relifer remember had the shoulder injury that cost him the bulk of the 2025 season he's been he's coming back from that and has been at the first two practices during the media
portion and Saturday Relifer was not there at least not while the media was was viewing now Damien Shanklin who had missed the first couple of practices was back out there on Saturday.
Now Relifer's absence will see what it may be he did kind of have a cryptic Instagram story and I don't want to read too much into it but you know it the Instagram story
that Relifer posted on on Friday had the song lyrics to the cure boy boys don't cry and it says on the screen I try to laugh about it hiding the tears in my eyes because boys don't cry boys don't cry I would break down anyway.
The point being I don't I don't want to miss read too much into what Gabe Relifer put on his Instagram story in the fact that then he was absent but we'll see if we can find something out we'll certainly share with you but in Relifer's absence it was collage cobbin so with the second team edge rushers it was Dylan Carpenter and collage cobbins running
with the twos step island green the clums and transfer remains apps and also he has not been out there yet so far for the first three practices of spring but again Damien Shanklin who had missed the first two was back so that was sort of the good news.
Before I get into my notes and observations let me just run through the first team offense and first team defense as we saw and and then I'll run through what I saw from the twos and then we'll get you notes.
So Landon Clark the Elon transfer continues to run with the ones and as I was told after practice of the media got to watch that one 11 11 period then individuals after we were kicked out they ran seven on seven and more 11 on 11 periods I was told that Sam Levitt is running we did not see this but I've been told Sam Levitt is participating in seven on sevens.
He is not participating in any of the 11 on 11 drills that remains Landon Clark and who saw Longstreet well we got to see Landon Clark now for three days has been running with the ones Longstreet has been running with the twos your first off your first running back with Harlem Berry that's a change that had been Kaden Durham so Berry got a chance to go with the ones.
Your three receivers were Jace Brown Jackson Harris and Winnie Watkins by the way I was able to confirm that Winnie Watkins who on the original roster was listed at number eight.
It is the receiver wearing number six now it's going to be interesting because Watkins and who saw Longstreet and TJ Donnery that's three number six is remember you can't have two players on the field at the same time the same number in a game in practice it doesn't matter as much but in a game.
If so if Longstreet were to play Watkins couldn't be out there at number six so you can have two sixes on the field at the same time but at practice right now Watkins is the one wearing number six of note Roman Mother Shed so it was Brown Harris and Watkins but Roman Mother Shed was with the ones so as they were sort of moving down field he did take some reps with the ones as well so 80 he wears 82 so 82 was the other receiver rotating in.
Great as was your first tight end no surprise there and your offensive line left to right no no change Jordan seat and left tackle Devon Harper had left guard Braille and Moritz center Aluba at right guard and then Western Davis at right tackle your first defense your first team defense again.
Doos Gerald's Malik blocked in as we noted were your were your tackles Prince William on me Ellen and Jordan Ross your edge rushers no change there.
Devon keys TJ daughtery at linebacker to Sean Spears your first team star this was all the same pick it woodland corner benefit cool it's safety that's been your your first team on the offense as you on the defense your second defense as we noted no changes other than that tackle where you had or on the line where you had.
Carpenter and Cobbens at edge Anderson McKinley at tackle your linebackers Thailand Singleton Zach Weeks Aiden Hall the freshman early in Rolly from Edna Carr is playing the second team star Michael Turner Jakeem Jackson were your corners and then
Jace Thomas and Fahim DeLane the Ohio State transfer were your for your second team safeties so that's how it lined up during the 11 on 11 period let me knock on my quick break come back
and I'll give you some some of my other observations from Saturday's practice out on the ponderosa it's locked on LSU your team every day.
This is Mazda's moving the game forward for those who know the score never tells the whole story and how about I guess a hat tip to Lane Kiffin in his first spring at LSU leading this team through their
third workout he assembled the number one transfer portal class in the country and for that there's so much tremendous
expectation on this first season for Kiffin in Baton Rouge because you know for the coaches and for the players there's more than
just the highlights there's early mornings there's late night runs constantly showing up for their squad both on and
off the field the court the diamond the all new Mazda CX five moves the same way with more space to connect a bold new
design and more intuitive technology so you can stay connected to the road and every position you play the
all new Mazda CX five more to move every side of you.

in on the action run through the rest of my notes from Saturday's practice so I watched the
the field where the first team was our colleague Chris Marler from Louisiana sports dot net went
and watched the other field where the twos were and so whenever they split I watched the offense he watched the
defense of sort of combining our notes if you want to see the full report you can get it for free at
Louisiana sports dot net always as we noted with weeks not participating but still out there and we
talked already about the defensive front and some of the changes it was notable that pads were popping
for the first time being that they were wearing shoulder pads and on the last play of the 11 on 11
period that we saw with the ones Harlem Berry kind of got into a little bit of a dust up with a few of
the defenders which is good to see some of that that intensity as this team is sort of coming together
but again they start around the 10 yard line they just run an offensive series hurry up just moving
down the field whether the pass is completed or whatever they just keep moving the ball down field so
they have a I don't know if it's a set number of plays or it's a time limit but they're moving they're
just you know freely moving down the field good to see Harlem Berry get in there with the with the
with the ones also it was interesting the first reception went to Roman mother shed which is a pass
in the right flat and that's it's interesting because mother shed is not small he is listed
at 6 5 208 so the fact that you had that big dude catching a ball in the flat getting up field kind
of slant toward the middle was was interesting to see the on with the twos I think notable
from Marlor was that who's on Longstreet was 0 for 5 so in that 11 on 11 period the play
earlier in the week where Longstreet through the no look pass and completed it that clip kind of
went viral this week just a rough day in the period we got to see now it's worth noting after
we left they ran 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 and and we so who knows how well he did in those
periods 7 on 7 11 11 but in that initial 11 on 11 hurry up no huddle period that we saw he
was Longstreet was 0 for 5 running with with the twos the second team so we ran through the
second defense a few other things I thought were notable whenever the they went to the individual
period the quarterbacks were working on jet sweep handoffs with receivers and the reason this
was interesting is because there was only a handful of receivers that stayed with the
quarterbacks to run that drill the rest of the receivers went work with George McDonald
cones and all different types of stuff so this would sort of be an indication of which
guys on the field might be on the field to run this package specifically similar to what
we saw last year was Avion Thomas and Perry and Brown and Aaron Anderson right well those
guys were Tyree Holloway when he walk ins Jace Brown no your Granger and Phillip right now
remember Granger is an interesting one because Granger is he's wearing number 20 no I'm sorry
Granger is wearing 89 and he is Granger is the 26 year old hip hop artist who just joined
the roster as a walk on so interesting not only to see him out there but to see him and
by the way he doesn't have a height and weight I'm looking at the roster he doesn't even
have a height and weight listed yet and he's a freshman even though he's 20 26 years
old so but it's interesting he was one of the receivers working on the jets weeps with
quarterbacks after the jets weeps with the receivers quarterbacks work handoff drills with
running backs the intention I think you could tell from Kevin Smith is footwork even in
that drill the whole thing was stopping redirecting getting up field when someone was
coming out and changing direction down field and then when they went into individual
periods as well with just Kevin Smith and the running backs they continue to work on
ball security shoot drills and footwork it's about it's so much of it is about change
direction the one guy I'm going to tell you that is that just looks different physically is
Dylan Jones the transfer from Wisconsin he wears number 13 I mentioned him in a previous
report but he's listed at 511 to 11 that 511 may not be tall enough but he or maybe it's
just because he's standing next to smaller backs like you know they have Harlem very listed
510 they've got Caden Durham at 5.9 you look you guys are gracing Hillary they have
at 5.10 Dylan Jones he just physically looks different than the other guys and maybe
it's that he's more physically mature maybe just a bigger thicker fuller guy but he looks
like he's going to be a between the tackles more physical running style that would make sense
right coming in from Wisconsin so that was an observation there we also got to see the
quarterbacks work past catching drills with the tight ends this first time we saw this
and your tight end order went obviously trade as green then Malachi Thomas who's
wearing number 12 that's the pit tight end transfer Thomas is another big target he's
6 3242 now when you look at trade as who's 6 7 he doesn't look as big but 6342 is a
big old dude and these tight ends really look the part a Zach Grace the Oregon transfer
was 3rd JD Laflore was 4th JC Anderson was next and then it was Landon Craig those
were the tight ends JC Anderson is the is the freshman tight end wearing number 87 and
then Craig is is the squad player out of brother Martin wear a number 81 so those were
your your tight ends out at practice a few other interesting notes Saturday was family
day as I learned was talking to some of the the parents who were out there so Lane Kiffin
on Saturday's during spring is inviting family members parents brothers sister to come
watch practice so there were and there was a heavy number of boosters there were some recruits
on campus as well for for this practice and then family so there was a there were a lot
of folks out there at the practice field so it was a little more little more crowded and
a little more chaotic then then you might typically see but it was it was a good effective
tempo day out there for for the LSU football practice team day 3 of spring so they'll have
the rest of the weekend off remember their practice schedule is consistent all throughout
spring they're going to practice Tuesday Thursday Saturday so we'll have availability again
coming up this Tuesday after which we're supposed to talk to Lane Kiffin Thursday then we'll
talk to players and then they'll work out again a week from today on on Saturday and of course
as long as Lane Kiffin gives us media availability and access will certainly be there and we'll
be here with these practice reports so if there's something I haven't mentioned or someone
you'd like me to talk about let me know I'm happy to go out there keep an eye on it be your
eyes and ears and report back here with with our locked on LSU updates every time we get get practice
