Is Britain's National Health Service (NHS) at breaking point?

Is digital, AI and machine learning the way to make the NHS a preventative, rather than reactive, service? The Black Spy sits down with Dr Suhel Ahmed to answer these questions.

This week's episode attempts to answer the above questions concerning the UK's NHS, which is factually of interest to every British citizen and anyone who seeks primary medical attention in the UK. This golden fleece of public health and society, is now under tremendous pressure and threat posts its initial success over the last 70 years.

In addition to touching on Dr. Ahmed early life as a youth in a poor working class family, of South Asian heritage, living in a lower class neighbourhood of a tough northern mill town, the Black spy learns how Suhel discovered his latent innate educational talent. Listeners learn how Suhel gains access to a prestigious school and knuckles down to study, setting his sights on becoming a medic.

Budding doctors will listen with interest as to how medics choose their direction and role within the medical profession in Britain. Many listeners will also no doubt be surprised at the level of privatisation that already exists in the NHS for General Practitioners (GPs).

The discussion also touches on the dire straits of NHS waiting lists, the time takes to see a GP, and the less than perfect solution of continuing audio only doctors' telephone appointments, even post COVID.

Finally, the last half of the show looks at the extremely interesting way forward for the NHS. What technology is presently available, where the NHS is going in the near future, questions regarding privatising the NHS, employment companies' responsibility for supporting their employees' health and learning where individuals can gain the tools to check their health for themselves by utilising apps and free health kiosk etc. Dr. Ahmed also speaks of the importance of health and personal data in assisting positive health outcomes. In short, this is another Black Spy Podcast that is not to be forepassed.
