Israel's New Death Penalty Law for Palestinians

On March 30, Israel's parliament just passed a new law, slapping the death penalty on Palestinians,

convicted of deadly terror attacks in the occupied West Bank.

It's the default sentence now for those found guilty by military courts of intentional killings labeled as terrorism.

The rules say executions happen by hanging within 90 days of the verdict.

Prisoners go into isolation with no visits, just video calls for legal help.

Courts can decide by simple majority, no need for prosecutors to push it or full agreement.

Israel hasn't carried out a deficit in since 1962, when they executed Nazi war criminal,

Adolf Eichmann. This push comes from far-right national security minister,

Itamar Ben-Govir, who's been hyping it up big time.

Rights groups, the UN, and European countries like Britain, France, Germany, and Italy

slam bit as discriminatory and a breach of international law.

They say it kills judicial options and could expose Israelis to risks abroad.

Military brass warned the same.

A top Israeli human rights group already filed a petition with the Supreme Court to strike it down.

The laws in effect for now, but that court's review could change everything fast.
