ITB Annual NFL Preview: Where Do Eagles Rank Among NFL's Best Teams?

0:00I'm Inside the birds is back what's going on everybody and it's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan and we are both proud to say to all inside the birds fans listeners NFL football fans that today is Labor Day happy Labor Day to everybody but the best thing about yesterday Sunday is Adam last Sunday with no NFL football for a long time So the Sunday after the Super Bowl. That's gonna be a great time of the year, isn't it? It is it is the weather has changed already out east if you're in the Philadelphia New Jersey Delaware area even New York You're in the low 70s. I was able to play three hours of tennis money morning and not even be a little tired But not too tired because it was 60 degrees at 6.30 a.m So it was one late ladies complain about it I don't know what it is about ladies and all of my wife likes to call the cold

1:02But oh man people complain about she must be the only one most of the women in my life like it They they they hate when I have the fan on they hate when I have the AC up, you know, they're always cold Yeah, I'll quit right. Hey, my wife loves it cold. So we I like it like in fact November, December one 40 out We'll let it get down to like 58 or 60 degrees inside I love that we both see it the same way like I'm marrying this woman I was gonna say you found a soulmate right now man. I choose a bandwagon real quick. She's a bandwagon six or fan Okay, I took her to 01 because she knows I was a obsessive six or fan. I took her to so many sixers games in in a one and She was so into it because you know, it's she's from Greenwich, Connecticut She actually went to high school with tray Wingo. They were not The SPN yeah at Greenwich High, but it is funny how people get really into we'll turn us over to the Eagles Look people who are old school fans and that they were maybe Mcnavig fans and they they kind of And you read error they got that enough

2:04I mean if you haven't got if you've not gotten back into Eagles now the way that they've changed the around things Around since 21. I don't know what you're looking for. Yeah, I know This is it's the Eagles are just a they're just a great storyline every year We'll get into this is gonna be our episode where we do we've been teasing this Adam and I are gonna give our bottom five NFL teams and then our top 10 NFL teams so the five worst teams in the NFL followed by the top 10 In the NFL we did this last year a lot of people liked it. We don't just listed. We kind of talk it out We see where our differences is But it also reminds you that it's that time of the year where you're getting started plus we got college We had some exciting college football games over the weekend, you know my Penn State guys got off to a great start in the Matt Campbell error And Matt Campbell the former roommate at Mount Union of Nick Sireani very Yeah, so that was fun. You got playoff baseball Uh, well for you get September pennant chase then October playoff baseball and we know red October is pretty crazy here in Philadelphia

3:05So it's just a great time of the year um, but yeah football starts this week and you don't have to wait till Sunday You got Wednesday night several rematch between the Patriots and the Seahawks that followed by Thursday night you get your first international game in Australia Between the Rams and the 49ers. What a great matchup that is too. So and then we go right into Sunday sleep The big one Wednesday. I just You know It's weird last week. I love having a little bit of downtime Before the season started. It's kind of weird, but I enjoyed it Catch up on some stuff errands and all sorts of stuff clean the damn house up, but uh Being on Wednesday. I don't know. It's just so weird. I don't know how if you I don't know where folks are at I just it's too weird for me. It is strange But nonetheless it gives us an opportunity to promote what we got coming up on inside the birds this week and this year I should say a lot of our programming is That people love is going to be back. 4:07Cocelle Uh, we are expecting to have birds weekly back now. It's not going to be Gunner and Ray didn't you? I don't I know this is already known. So I'll say Ray has been doing these like world tours since the uh The end of last year. He's been doing all these traveling with and good for him I mean he deserved it. He and his life and great families. So Um, we are expecting to have birds weekly back with Gunner and and I guess we're just still working out the final uh Details of that we will have what else do we have? We're working on our own show last year. I got asked about this quarterback the ke you quarterback was now the backup the box I'm like what did this come from yep? What's your number's name? Okay, offhand. I don't know okay, but uh, yeah, so look at four to it the season is here folks at boy it it and then look We'll see what happens with this Eagle steam. 8:16We have our own list will compare and contrast will start not with the worst We're gonna work our way to the worst because Adam and I've already joked as we've teased this ball It's pretty clear on paper who the worst team in the NFL should be So we'll go from 28 29 30 31 and then 32 You know what's interesting on that? If you and it's really true most years the bottom five teams almost always have a quarterback problem Yes, so I'm looking at my list now one They're they've addressed it. We'll see if it's it's right, but It's just when you when you don't have stability quarterback. You're gonna be on this list That's not a good list This team you're teasing that may have addressed its issues. Do they happen to wear colors of silver and black Yes, but I don't have a worth team. Oh, I don't have me there. So good. This is a good starting port. Uh, yes Who is the fifth let's go from fifth worst to worst. So who is the twenty-eight worst team in the NFL in your book? Here's the thing this team actually has a decent roster, but they're so bad a quarterback

9:17And I don't like their decisions. They went that they made. I just don't agree with the thought process But I'm gonna start with the Browns here. This team number 28 They're gonna have five new offensive line starters. Brand new coaching staff Injury Barry Who prior to the 25 draft I mean you couldn't make a case for him to come back. He did not he wasn't doing very well. Obviously Maybe the worst transaction and NFL history with the Sean Watson trade, but 25 he had a great draft probably saved his job But he is butchered quarterback and for the life of me They're gonna have two first round picks next year Why not at least get a look at Shedore Sanders Okay, what what what is the Sean Watson going to do for you? I know you own I understand five years into 240 million. I get that. It doesn't matter He's not he's not taking you anywhere It's just it's just there's a reason why historically they've been in in in franchise. It's just embarrassing Yep Greco sells the best example. He Greg doesn't do draft grades. I asked him

10:21Before and after draft I said what what are your thoughts on him? And I know you don't do draft grades. What do you think he and then he said to me goes? I don't see how he doesn't go in the pass of third round Pocket pass or good touch You know never great arm decent arm not you he'll scrambling doesn't really run But processes pretty well and then you know he had the maturity problem very well documented Had him drop But at this point and talking to people close to the brown. He's he's done everything right this off season Okay, you could say to Sean beat him out, but what does it mean? Well, it doesn't matter. Where are you going? No, right, right start the kid right? Yeah, and follow if he looks really bad after four weeks poem go with Watson Just it's just it's backward thinking they got no shot. I'm I'm with you I actually think that you're being kind to the browns by saying they're only the fifth worst team in the NFL Because I have the mom I I have them on my bottom five, but I actually have them worse than Than that so Um, I agree with you. I do think that me I like their coach obviously cutter

11:26Maybe he's his hand is being forced by ownership to go ahead with the show lots and because of the money I I don't know what I say cutter. Oh my god. Did I say dirt cutter? By way, I've done that before a long weekend brother Cutter Yeah, he know, but he coach in college. Yeah, where was that Georgia right? Right, but he also is a head coach didn't go great. Yeah, but oh yeah, I think it was a boyzy if I'm yes That was it. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, I think he was quitting michael's coach there, but yeah, oh wow. Yeah. Wow. Okay. Okay You look I'm Monkin you good for Todd Monkin. It really should have been Jim Schwartz Well, that's a that's a 30 for 30 short We're too thought of getting it They didn't go with them and with an offensive coach, but Uh, they've got by the way. They've got a very interesting uh, Mike Rutenberg Who who's coach in a Robert Salis, so they're gonna run the the wide nine Mm-hmm the talent level and defense is fine. It's not the problem right in Jared verse obviously the big trade who's versus a big time player

12:32It's man, it's just the offensive line five new starters Um Did it conception that question with him is he a slot receiver? Could he play it outside? Denzel Boston big body doesn't run all that well And now Judd Kins is their full-time starting running back there. There's enough if they had a quality quarterback Today or nine win team Yeah Watson has not played good football in six years six years 2020. It has okay All right, so there you go All right, so my I had a debate the the the 28th worst team between two teams one was the Raiders one was the Titans Um, I I really had trouble with this the Raiders could you could have made an argument by the end of last year They were they were just they were the worst team in the NFL I love what they've done in the offseason in terms of their coaching staff You know, obviously I'm a big clink kubiak fan. He did a great job as the OC and the Seahawks Uh, I don't love I love the fact that they were not afraid to pay Tyler Lindemom a good player all that money to play center

13:36Because they needed offensive line hope they get Colton Miller back Um, I don't understand the charade with Kirk cousins, but I guess they want to give Fernando Mendoza some time Gentie should have a better year So the reason why they're not top three worst team is because I think they've made some nice offseason additions I think that they will reap the benefits of having kubiak as a head coach why I put them as 28 and not the Titans You know sell and they endable to me Even though they don't have a ton of talent there I think we'll maximize it. They've got a blue chip player like Jeffrey Simmons Uh, who's an excellent tackle They made some good offseason additions of guys that they're comfortable with you know, obviously Wandael Robinson and Belinger They played for for table somebody made a joke that the Titans are basically like a complete combination of the Jess and Giants Which is not a way to build a team. I get it. That is funny, but it was the Raiders for me Um, that that was going to be that has a little bit more to go. They're going to play in a really really tough conference So it'll be some tough slamming this year. They've got better days ahead, but they're my fifth worst team

14:39Yeah, they're in a tough division. I mean it's They're gonna have problems getting any wins Receiver for not very good Yeah, they hampton is way more explosive genty You worry about the running style running after conti takes way too much contact Yep, you're in the fantasy get Mike Washington first of all the fourth rounder who's had a good good training camp Dylan lobby. I like I meant Dylan at the senior ball cup a years ago. It's got great versatility Uh, they've got problems with the back end of the defense and I've very talented I'm very talented corner at all. That's a problem that but they've got Krosby for now. That's a big deal They spent I and line back here with Walker and especially the Kobe Dean Yeah, you're right. They upgraded the talent. It's a five-one team on paper Yeah, and they don't want to rush they don't rush their their first pick overall quarterback men do is I get it and cousins is on a one-year deal So we'll we'll say um But I'll say what I like cousins more than Gina Smith Gina Smith and you could say all you want about all the problems they had around unless you didn't he was awful

15:41No, is that a good segue into our fourth worst NFL team because I do have the jets as my fourth worst NFL team Well, you know what with that one My friend Kerry Rhodes former jet and Cardinal safety we do Fox Sports Rater together every Sunday And he keeps tell me how much better they're gonna be because the roster is better But again, you know Smith He struggled it Like he he did great like he came out of nowhere and kind of Shocked everyone with his fine play for a couple seasons with the Seahawks. Mm-hmm, but Now the good thing about the the jazs They got the hall deal done. I give their GM credit Darren Mouji credit. He wasn't gonna trade him kept him 80 Mitchell there now for full season Garrett Wilson Tim Patrick is not a bad backup Omar Cooper like you and and bottom loaded a tight end now side of CDs got an injury both Mason Taylor Yeah, man all the draft capital two decent tackles. Yeah, yeah offensive tackles. They have talent You're saying they have talent. I have to wait more talent zero faith in the coaching staff

16:44I mean Aaron Glenn fired almost every single coach you had after the first year And then replaced him with guys like I'm like, oh Frank right You're off into coordination or play collar. I like Frank a lot. I you know his track record of the play collar is not very good Whether it's Carolina or Atlanta whether it's other places. I just so I don't have a whole lot of faith in this coaching staff. I'm glad he is I guess he's gonna call the defense now Which is what he was hired to do so he should but I feel like the coaching staff's gonna get in the way of of this young talent That they're trying to put together and so that that's why they're my fourth worst NFL team. I don't know if they've got Okay, they got real problems a corner real problems a corner Pass rush no David ballet was arguably the best pass rush for the strapped So you know you're hoping he plays great make if it's Patrick. I know the Steelers thought he was on the downside You know dolphins way able to get something for him They're just not enough talent on defense. No, could they get five or six wins? Yes

17:44I can see that I can see okay So is was that your your number what 28 team or I'm sorry. What was the number? Oh, yeah, it was interesting I had a Cleveland I had Cleveland I had the top of the bottom five right Cleveland and then the Jets. Yes, gotcha so good. Well look at that We already in sync. All right, let's get to third. You don't have my list. Yeah, I don't have yours and you don't have mine I'll go first with the third worst team because you've already talked about I have the Browns as the third worst team, okay only because They just don't to me Adam have like first of all they're gonna play in a pretty tough division They have to play six games against the Bengals against the Ravens and against the Steelers We always know that's difficult for them. Yep. They have this quarterback situation. You just mentioned that's a mess I'm not even sure that when should work gets in it's gonna be better and all their best players are either rookies or second-year players You know they drafted on the old line. That's great. I don't know how ready they are to be good They're two wide receivers Boston and conception or rookies It once Shador gets in there. He's basically a second-year player fan in the set uh, yeah

18:47Fanon's a second-year player. I do love their linebacker a lot of people do Who he's still a second-year player also swathing her yeah, he's a player but like there's not enough like got like when and times get tough Which they will for the Browns? I don't see enough veteran leadership enough guys who have the Gravantas to help pull things together It's gonna be tough for this coaching staff to get this team to play above each year So while I do think better days are ahead. I just think this year there there's you can't bang on them for anything The defense is gonna have to defense of the run game Now What I'm gonna tell you is Shador's gonna play okay? He's gonna he's eventually gonna start to show off since I'll start the entire season It'll never happen when Shador gets in there. They're gonna have to if nobody gets hurt judgekins, okay There's a power runner with Boston Jerry Judy conception and Fanon They've got enough to the past soccer group. No, I'm a little worried about this completely new offensive line five new starters That's never advisable What I don't understand is the charges one no part of Zion Johnson right then the the the Browns paying big money

19:52Yep Elton Jenkins a Kevin Jenkins tightest Howard, you know you acquired in the trade Yeah, so right tackle Spencer Fresno will see how good he looks early on it's Uh, they've got look they got challenges in their offensive line. It's never advisable to completely redo your offensive line Right you're an intriguing team. I just wish the quarterback situation would be better Uh, I'm with you 100% I don't love what they got on defense either some got good guys in the back end Maybe the front end. I mean versus obviously good player, but I just it's just gonna be tough for this team tough Slighting all year long. All right, so I had the Browns is my 30th overall team. Who's your third? Who did you have 30th overall? All right, so this team if this this is what I was saying earlier to start this Mm-hmm. This team seemingly has not got right a quarterback Fact if you really look at it the Cardinals Kyler-Merry obviously at best mixed results Matt Liner. I'm going way back. That was a total. God I mean you just look at and you know Kobe Berset said excellent backup. Yeah, really good backup

20:56Now Carson back is he's gonna play at some point this season. He just will Mm-hmm. Uh, Kobe's a excellent backup Phil he's a transitional quarterback to the next guy The and the other thing is no matter who the GM they they seemingly never get it right in the offensive line now I'd say Miles still playing good football Mm-hmm the right side of their offensive line is certainly questionable throw-holt Kedek came over from Cleveland. It's actually a really underrated signing the Joltee throw-holt I know it's a funny name But actually met his agent. How about this one? Former Eagle Joe Pano. How about that one? Oh, okay. I thought you were gonna say the other former Barry Gardner I wasn't sure no no the only reason I know I ran it to Joe at the airport And I was just talking about its for agents at number of years ago and it goes I got a guy's gonna get paid And he said the Joltee throw-holt I'm like really? Uh-huh. He was right All right, yeah, it's Michael Wilson finally came into his own guys extension. Yep. Marvin Harrison

21:57Better last year still not there yet Great-trained McBride. Love has got the Heinle spring. You're worried about that. Yep. To me it's defensively like they they've got a lot of talented young players, but the Pass rush Could Josh Sweat continue that you know he had a really good year Darrys Robinson the first round has been hurt a lot. It hasn't gotten there yet. Well no one's been hurt But when he played healthy he was good Sac on his first NFL snap. Oh, is that right? Okay, the corners Well Johnson had some injuries. They've got there's some talent on the back end like they're With with above average quarterback play this actually could be a wild card team. I just don't trust the quarterback situation I agree with you. I think they've assembled some decent young players They still have to assemble more. I like the coaching staff today Well, I don't love Nathaniel Hacker as the OC, but yeah, they're getting a little floor shana handoff and so we'll see But I I'm with you. They've kind of botched quarterback for a while. They're one injury away from Carson Beck being their quarterback

22:58injured, so I actually had the Cardinals as my second worst team. So We're getting in the same order here. I went Raiders Jets Browns 28 29 30 you have Browns Jets Cardinals 28 29 30 So that's it. I had the Cardinals as 31st my fourth worst team and who do you have All right, so I've got the Raiders next we've talked about them. I We're just not enough talent John spike it spike tech the GM definitely was aggressive. They had to spend money because over You know like a three-year period you got to you got to get to the cap. You got to spend a certain amount of cash not cap certain amount of cash So you know, he did they went crazy With the Lynn Lynn bomb deal. I mean they went and remember they didn't trade Krasby it it fell through All those cash is on it you know spend a lot on the Kobe Dean But they're they're there are ways away. They're a ways away. Yeah, looking forward to see Mendoza play he'll eventually start That's going to happen see how well he can do but what John spike tech's got to do

24:00He's got to redo the receiver core. He just it's he's got a bunch of backups jack bash was seen as a fifth-rounder talking to clubs about him And he went in the second Nailers a good backup that the paying starter money trade Tucker actually was good. He could run. He surprised me a little bit less Right, but overall they're just not good enough at receiver. Yeah, I think the common bond between my You know 31st-ranked team the Cardinals and yours the Raiders is that they're probably both gonna go on six in a division because they That it's gonna be tough for them to win a division game the Cardinals have to play the Rams the 49ers to see Hawks their Raiders have to play The Broncos the Chargers and um and the Chief Swat the Chiefs will be better Uh than they were last year obviously, so it's gonna be it's tough sledding when you already got six six losses there Yep, and you're just looking for a future and obviously That leaves us and unless you like totally pull the roll the wall out here or pull the rush Now that leaves the Miami Dolphins who maybe are not only the worst team in the NFL But if you look at their 53 man roster this may be right up there the worst teams

25:05I can remember ever seeing at him were like the 2008 to 2010 Raiders you remember that like the the Jermarket Russell into Tarell prior Raiders like they had Namdi and nothing like that was that was really it this really bad this team might rival that Yeah, they're bad enough. I think it's bad I unfortunately are fortunately depending on your point of view because I was able to see the commandos But I was there for the join practice three weeks ago It was paint. I mean they were so bad and you could look at a depth sharp, but you don't know until you really go for sure And I'm like you know, I'm watching I you know, I always Look forward to seeing three or four different things you know watch offensive line play Which they have some young talent the offensive lines have been upgraded. I give the new GM credit um John Eric Sullivan Jerry son Great Jerry Sullivan veteran receivers coach, but The receiver court the worse than national football league. I'd be shocked

26:05If they do anything there Um a chance of player the running back no doubt, but defensively It's just a lack of talent man. They're just not enough. It's gonna take time you Chris Johnson We'll see how good he is the first round pick a corner If favorite the scatting committee Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Texas player join Brooks has been a nice story. Yep. Not of past rushers not enough a corner It it's gonna be hard and then like Greg Tulsich is an athlete, but he's been hurt almost his entire career Yeah, they're I mean I was starting edge alongside for for for rather chop Robinson The other one is Josh Uche It could be well. I don't even know you or maybe yeah, he's the most veteran one they've got I guess they just don't have it It's just now as I said the last time we talked about this about the dolphins We're talking my mini tour They made a decision. They're gonna take massive capets because they they're inheriting a bad roster Yeah, and you have to be willing to say tell ownership this case is Stephen Ross look

27:06This is what we want to do or you okay with it Because not only we taking massive cap hits you're gonna go to a tongue out by Lola over 50 million in cash It's fully guaranteed. Yeah, man that that was uh, yeah Bob Kuchiburg yet loved it anyway All right, so listen we had no disagreements in terms of the teams we each had the Raiders jets browns Cardinals dolphins in some Form as our five worst NFL teams the and the only team I really struggled to keep out of this was the Titans And I could easily make an argument that maybe the Raiders will be better at Titans Maybe one of these teams we talked about will be better in the Titans will be worse But that's just how it shaped up for us. Mm-hmm Right, let's get to our 10 best teams in the NFL will pick up the pace a little bit.
