Jamien Sherwood's Jets Future Hinges on Restructure

On May 2nd, Jamie and Sherwood's future, with the New York Jets, could come down to a big financial call.

After signing a three-year, $45 million extension last March, the linebacker now faces pressure to restructure as his cap hits climb.

He's got $11.5 million this year, jumping to $19 million in 2027, with $30 million in remaining cash.

The Jets sit pretty, with over $39.5 million in cap space, after smart free agency and draft moves.

Sherwood burst onto the scene in 2024, leading the league with 98 solo tackles and earning that fat deal.

But last season, things slipped.

He dropped 17 solos despite playing nearly every snap, missed a career high 10 tackles, and tanked in coverage.

With a brutal 46.1 grade from pro football focus.

Jets fans are side-ying his play hard, especially since he's solid against the run, but a liability in past defense.

That regression post-payday has folks questioning if he's worth the bag long term.

Head coach Aaron Glinn wants guys who buy in as team players.

Restructuring could slash those cap numbers, keeping Sherwood in green and proving he's all in.

Otherwise, the Jets might cut ties after this season, saving $12.7 million before June 1st in 2027, or even more later, with just a $6.2 million dead hit.

Bottom line, Sherwood's nonstop motor shines sometimes, but he needs to round out his game.
