Oh Look back to GS306 Genelles here with us you can follow her on social media under holy L Hey, before we started talking about what we've seen and reviews and stuff sure something woke me up last night to the point that I Reminded myself on my phone The Truman show okay, well familiar with Truman show, right correct spoilers Did he grew up in a town and went to kindergarten all the way through high school with the same kids mostly the same kids So are they telling us that they hired kindergarten actors who kept the bit going and never said like it's all that you know I mean like it's the suspension of disbelief that you have to buy into when you watch movie Yeah, you're not supposed to you never hit me till last night like that's a pretty big put why did it hit you because I saw a tick-tock of
He and his best friend and his friend goes remember in second grade when this and this I'm like So you're just an actor in second grade and you're able to pull that off I think it's one of those things every every movie has that where if you watch it enough you start to wonder That doesn't make it so it's like so more of a fable Yeah, it's it's one of those again It's you just have to not every movie is gonna have sound logic that you can't poke them, you know Massive 30,000 holes and it's it every movie has it. It's some even my favorite movies like a lot of times If it's my favorite movie and I've watched it over and over and over again Sometimes I have to stop myself from watching it more and more because then I'll start to I'll start to pick it up I'm like don't know you enjoy it for reason the Netflix thing we've talked about sure You have to describe what's going on three times that ruined whisper man for me Because it was just so like are you kidding me? They do it throughout the entire movie. It's everything is explained like nothing is subtext. It is all
this is Your mom has died. We know we are grieving your it's everything is you don't have to infer ever It's the all you're thinking all your media literacy is if you can turn it off completely and just be like oh This movie's just gonna spoon feed it to me. Yeah, which is why again With literacy rates and combined with media that's the reason like when we went back and we were talking about lanterns See the episode three. Did you ever watch it? No, I haven't caught it. I've watched it. I haven't seen yet Okay, so yeah about that about the everybody the controversy over that and it was just okay, but you're that's Because you need everything spelled out for you You need somebody to come and say she is a terrible mother. They are doing terrible things because you need that fed to you You don't understand that it's like no not everything has to be spelled out. It shouldn't have to you should be able to do this on your Yeah, I like when you said last time because I haven't seen the episode But I've seen enough tic-tocs on it to kind of get the
But when you said like the the character of the mother when she says the whole like, you know, privileged thing Sure doesn't mean it's it just means that's what that character thinks means it was her opinion at that given time given her experience At no point like I said at no point in the show do does the green lantern course say hey, you know what? It's gonna wake up. Yeah, we're gonna get a white guy We're gonna make sure that he you know the reason he doesn't have any fears because he's had it pretty easy And that's the reason we're gonna go for the easy shot that that's never said and if that was said then yeah People would have every right to be like this doesn't seem right but she says it that's her opinion She's like in every movie if a character says something it is that character's Opinion it is their statement of what they're going through at that particular time You don't have to agree with it, but you don't have to be like oh This is what they're trying to say his society. Oh, no, they're not that's just that one character When did people start missing the plot? Like not being able to keep up these things are related when they can't you look at attention spans attention spans have dropped
So if you can't sit and you can't get off your phone to watch a A two-hour movie anymore Then you like well, I and you look up and somebody saying something and you've missed all the context before that Yeah, I mean they just yeah, you need that's the reason Netflix and the straight like we were talking about the streaming services They do speed like the rip They go over that plot four or five times during that movie They just talk about it over and over again and they they reintroduce the same things and they say it because they've even said Their model is we know people are gonna be on their phones and they need the plot Explain to them three or four times five or six times because at one of those points They're gonna pick it up. It's funny because the rip was my first experience at that right and I didn't know any of this existed And they kept telling me what was going on so much right that I thought well, I know that's not what's going on They're setting me up for a lot of things right and sure enough that's what was going on. Yeah, it's because they
They're counting on you not paying attention anymore and that's so sad that we've now have to cater to population that can't Focus for any amount of time anymore and that we've had to dumb down movies because well in order to get the whole population to watch them Well, I need you know, it's so and so to I need to I need to reintroduce the plot when they happen to look up from their phone And it's just like oh it becomes noticeable once you start watching a movie and you watch it all the way through and you don't pick up your phone You're just like yeah, I got it. I know that there have been a lot of Comparisons to the movie idiocracy Really holds up, you know, it's it's been friendly. I think they were we're kept reposting the clip from When Terry Cruz's character, I guess is offering money when he's running for you know, and that's you know What what happened last night? So yeah, no, we're going right down that path. I think it's they
Just I think it started with my generation and younger not reading to your kids not making sure that it was an important thing to do And this is where we're at now. We just have we have a dumber and dumber dumber generation and people just don't find any value in increasing their intelligence And it's terrifying because it's like yikes Yeah, separate from this. I had the story that the reading rates Um aptitude literacy or at a all-time low. Yeah, that yeah, that yeah It's it I think we've fallen to 13th as far as the world goes and it's It's like good job, but again I I'm one of those people that is like I read to my kids, but I know you know, the I know people my age who didn't read to their kids And you're like that's I'm not I can't put it on the kids fault for not knowing how to pick up a book and scroll through it or and read through it, but it's You know what I read to my kids. I enjoyed it. I still read I encourage my kids every time they come home from college One of the places I always take him is Barnes and Noble and it's always I'll buy you a book any book
Don't care just read because I always tell them listen one of these days reading is going to make you one of the elites Yeah, I mean and it's like just keep reading please just But then we also erase checks and balances Because if you can't read at a certain level you shouldn't be able to advance in school But we allow it we just like ah you got to move them through we don't want anybody feel bad Yeah, that's true, but I mean that you didn't pass the course you can't do the task that you're being assigned to do so you don't get to move to the next task eventually You're gonna have teachers that don't read too if It's kind of it's going to get worse and worse and worse, but you know it's it's it's it's it's scary because like I said It's taking art now you're taking an art form that I enjoy and you're dumbing it down. So people can Consume it real quick. You have to take a break because Ricky Horton's coming up. Are we selling less books now? Ah, no Barnes and nobles like opening a bunch of books like the physical media like there are a lot of people the people who are reading
voracious readers are reading more they're winning copies of physical books. So I applaud that it's just the younger generations aren't Oh Back guys DG ass and Kate in the Lex I'm gonna talk to a pal Ricky Horton who I believe is either on the course who just heading back from the chorus Rick how to go today Yeah, you've got me right. I'm just headed back from Wonderful Whitmore Country Club and I played in the Cardinals Care Golf tournament and we had a blast We I had to leave because I literally since we got back to the late last night Two things to get done, but we finished we might have finished in the top three. I'm kind of You're about that. It was we've I played with our friends from focal point Who of course are helping us play everywhere with every broken bet that we have During the season they're planning trees for that. So it was kind of a good all around day very nice very nice Rick before we get into the horribleness of the giants and what happened last night I want to make sure if we do anything this segment
Let's talk about the 2016 which will be honored this weekend and you and wheels just take it over man Well, let me start by saying that a bunch of those guys were at this golf tournament today I mean, I saw guys not just the kind of the the normal cast of characters that you think of from that 2016, but I saw John goll I saw John Rodriguez. Wow, Gary Bennett I mean, there's a whole bunch of people and all I could tell each one of them because I've been through some of these Moments myself with both the Cardinals and the Dodgers. It's just to enjoy every minute of this weekend and this connection And I think they are I mean, I really do it. It's a it's a very special thing for them to kind of reconnect and think about that year Wheels that was so important. I mean such a great year for Cardinal baseball in 2006 Yeah, that was the first Cardinals team I covered I moved to town 20 20 years ago this month so literally August of 2006 is when I got here and you jumped right in Ricky and From afar as a baseball guy You knew you could see this was a better team than its record
But they had so many guys Mike Jim Edmunds probably I think missed what a third of the season and there are a bunch of other guys They didn't out of the line of David X time missed time David X time was hurt. Yeah, X time was hurt for a long time And that's why their record was kind of my kind of pedestrian up until towards the end when they kind of they just kind of Lit on fire and really during the playoffs obviously, but you know, they also got really good production from Guys that again, not the normal cast the characters Randy Flores was so good in the bullpen In fact the the game that Adam Wayne Wright won Striking out Carlos Beltron the winning pitcher in that game was Randy Flores out of the pen. Yeah Josh Kenny Josh Kenny did a great job down the stretch in the Cardinals I mean, there's just so many guys that contributed that you know, that's obviously what that's what the team does And it's it's fun to kind of think back about like with things that we're going on and especially in the postseason right because that was That was kind of it for Mark Mulder right coming into the year was gonna be a part of things But had a lot of arm problems and you know, didn't go well in performance and a whole bunch of guys in the rotation
Specifically who didn't pitch that well in the regular season We're all money in the postseason, you know from from Jeff Weaver to Anthony Reyes to like Anthony Reyes really struggled in the regular season, but in the postseason he won some of their biggest games Yeah, both those guys by the way at the golf tournament today. They'll be part of the festivities I hadn't seen Jeff Weaver in a long time Anthony Reyes has come back a couple of times and Reyes Reyes of course a great story He's a firefighter in Los Angeles and has been unfortunately very busy the last five years But that game that he pitched against Detroit, you know He found out a couple days before he wasn't sure he was telling us recently wasn't sure he's going to be on the roster And then they said oh yeah, you're on the roster and you're starting the first game of the world series I mean, but man did he absolutely deliver? I mean in a big way and so much of that too like you know Adam we all we all remember it right Adam Wayne right closing everything out all the big moments The curveball and Beltran, you know the world series And that might not have gone that way if Jason isring a house and hadn't been hurt
And you know because I he was one of the interesting things was he was pitching hurt a lot that year And some of the results in the second half were pretty shaky and that's why the change ended up happening and obviously And everybody felt bad for him Because it wasn't his fault. He was hurt, but he was trying to gut it out Yeah, you know, I remember kind of being a little bit mad myself was the first time I wasn't mad at him I was mad because of the kind of I don't know if we were in the early part of social media or what was going on But there was I mean, they were brews that pushed him for is he and it just it just turned my stomach because there's a guy That's pitching hurt because he's the best option. You know that that's always the case and you can translate that into Into what we saw in San Francisco and people saying well, you shouldn't use this guy in the ninth inning Well, the natural question is then who I mean right somebody's got to do it and is he was far and away The best prepared to pitch in the ninth inning until Wayne Wright was ready and then he became that guy But you know you know in the clubhouse when the guy's not ready and then you know when he's ready and you know So is he is he kind of fell on the sword a little bit that years with his injury and people say well
Why are you playing when you're hurt? Well, you're playing when you're hurt because you're a gamer That's why I mean that's a positive thing to me not a negative So let's let's switch to this year and I'm gonna ask you guys given what the Assignment was what the purpose of this this season was Give me a letter grade or a percentage have everyone to do it. How did we do? uh assessing what we have and don't have Well, I'm gonna uh, I'm probably going to get a lot of the Homer Emails cards and letters after what I say, but I think they get it I think they get an A for what they said they were gonna do and I think the problem is Once they said that what we're gonna do once we outkicked that coverage Now we want we wanted something else, but they kind of stayed with the look we're about developing We're about finding out about players when to find out about Jordan Walker Well, that's an A plus actually they found out about him and they gave him the runway and he succeeded You know we're gonna give other guys a chance to play we're gonna let weather hole Hit that lead-off spot. Well, that's a pretty good idea too
And so I feel like they they've they've not rushed guys too soon Bernal would be that guy um And they and they they kind of have not Kind of been slow to get guys up as well. They gave Jimmy Crook's a shot He's got some things to learn, but the point is I think they've handled kind of the the transfer from minor league to big leagues Kevin my mind pretty well, and I'm I'd give him an A for that. Yeah, I think I would separate it slightly on two different things Because I agree with Ricky big picture like if I were gonna say the on field grade I'd probably go B because it's better than expected and you know They're already past the Vegas win total for the beginning of the year. So they've already passed that with with what you know 15 18 games left. Yeah, it was 66 right and they were already 69 and a half I think was number. Yeah, yeah, right right So they've already beat that that's right so give them a B and then and what about what's what about the rest? But the big picture I think it's an A because maybe maybe even an A plus if you're gonna look at the future Because what have you found you like you said you found a slugger and Jordan Walker that you didn't have a year ago
Because he took a step forward JJ's proven that the hype was real Joshua Bayez is a 40 home or player I mean combine majors and minors, but he's got 41 home runs with two weeks two and a half weeks left in the season You found out that Rainier Rodriguez is a different kind of guy. I mean, he's 19 destroying double A All the big arms are coming Liam Doyle is close to going to triple A Tanner Franklin is at double A Durangel of St. Joseph triple A Brandon Clarks now at double A all these guys that throw a hundred like We because what if you're gonna take the term Advancing towards contention to me that's an A because of what you've done developing players and what you found out at the major league level But you know, it's it's not automatic because prospects are prospects, but you can't do better than knowing what you know at the moment And think I think some of that's gonna reach back to mo to which I'm really glad about it I mean it's mo and I'm setting the stage because I think when when we see hey zoos Bayez now I think he was under most watch. I mean with Bayez from the mess for healthly, you know
Way we see that guy. I mean his numbers are ridiculous and he's a shortstop in in 30 home runs I mean, I mean, that's pretty impressive And then you've got the co-a roby which is kind of you know right around the end of that time too I mean there's there's gonna be A lot of a few more guys coming to that we're gonna be very happy about all right buddy I have my last charity game of the year tomorrow So I'll see you in the booth have a great day off and let's get out on the course. I'll see you in the booth you bet buddy You Book about guys dgs on cake mlex335 Dave Murray time hello Dave. Hello there How how are things out there? It's so rare that we have like weather out I know Although the only weather we have is it's hot and it is human. We're about 92 degrees right now
And uh, which is a little cooler than yesterday. We hit a hundred again yesterday here damn at the at the house David marina breaks marina. I stayed in a condo Not beach side but one row back in manhattan beach Lovely Is that area getting beaten up on the beach? It's it's really right along the coast There are there's about five homes in laguna that have been yellow tag they haven't been red tag But the yellow tag is it's kind of like Yeah, if you want to go in you can you may fall off But if it's red tagged which means you can't you can't go in Dana point, which is the next town south they've got about 20 homes That are either red tagged or yellow tagged and and you go up all the way up through li and and anywhere along the coast Is it is really a mess because we've had we've had You know, we had this hurricane way out in the ocean Marie, but the waves pounded the coast for
10 days To be big-time waves So is it like in florida would it gets to be 50 and people put on parkas when it's a hundred in LA? Are people just like beside themselves? Oh, yeah everybody's moaning and groaning Yeah Yeah, it's you know it there is no difference anywhere in the country when it's something you're not used to you're going to moaning grown about Yeah, me while this morning in st. Louis it was like someone changed the damn channel Yeah, yeah Opened up my door and there's leaves all over my yard is raining and it's raining and it's 76 right now I mean that's the effect of the cool front that came through last night still kind of hanging around But it but it's here the northwest flow is opened up and overall the rain is done You might run into a sprinkle or a quick little shower over the next couple of hours, but it's no big deal the uh the weather Friday Saturday and Sunday overall is really nice It's in the 80s think mid to upper 80s for the most part now each afternoon could bring a spot thunderstorm very limited
Very hard to find but overall the next couple of days look really good. There's a hot day on the horizon Just one day that's Monday where I think we'll hit 95 and the humidity will be back then another cool front comes through So we're we're chipping away at this and every day that goes by in September we get closer and closer To that fall feeling which is what it's like right now outside and we're falling back on Halloween right this year Uh, no, I think it's November 2nd Now is you in a room and everything? Ha ha ha ha There goes my 1 a.m. Trick or treat and twice. Oh, well too bad Yeah, it is yeah Halloween is on a Saturday Oh, you know, why the can't be November 2nd because that's a Monday You you might be right. Oh my god mark this down Pull up your phone Yeah, seriously Go have a great Rachel Beard Rachel Google Google really quickly. What's the time?
I you know it is Sunday November 1st is yeah, no, yeah, so Halloween before he go to bed. Yeah It's uh, it's spooky time we fall back if you sleep this year. I thought it usually happened earlier in October That may be I think a long long time ago. I think it did but it gets it's getting later and later until the Congress or somebody decides hey, you know what we're not gonna do this anymore I'm not sure I'll be around that kind of win away again Yeah, I know it comes Was that are we the only country that does it? I don't know are we the only country the goes back and forth? Yo, there are some stay Indiana doesn't do it Uh, at least a portion of Indiana parts of Arizona don't do it. Hawaii does not do it And uh, you know, it's just depends on when you want the sun to go down. That's why Hawaii does 70 countries I don't know 70 countries 70 countries almost all of Europe Uh, North America, New Zealand, Cuba, Egypt, South America, Australia
But some of them are not entire nations some of them are parts of it. Yeah, that's great. Yeah Oh well, you said entire like a old-timey prospector entire And I'm tired saying there is incarnation and we're looking for my gold. It's entirely possible Find that strike you guys are gonna want to know me and I've been alive back then 100% chance I go out to the gold rush. Oh my god. Yeah 95% chance. I'm dead in a week really yeah me too. I agree I'm falling off a cliff or yeah, I don't know if you would have done well With my But well you would hit gold you know you would hit gold and then you'd run around go look what I found Shoot you down. Yeah, or he comes Johnny Ringo to take it from you He would have just like made fun of the wrong person or like bumped into the wrong person. I'm your hookal berry
Yeah, he wouldn't have ended well At least I know that about myself Yeah If I'd have been there the hides of March I'd have been the only one to stab Caesar everyone else would have backed up Please set me up you said we were all gonna do this It'd been just you day. You definitely didn't want to be the first one in that movement did you? No Like are you sure you're with me? You want to come over the time? I'll be like come up as being the middle That's I got cover or you're stabbing the wrong guy Right Oh sister oh sorry buddy Don't stab him in the body Make this weird Rachel want to do a couple headlines sure. Let's start by talking about Jimmy Kimmel There is a report from page six that Jimmy Kimmel live is going to have its final show in May of 2027 this is after 24 years now As far as I can tell ABC has not confirmed this
And a network spokesperson spokesperson says that this report is inaccurate this report that his contract would not be renewed You know, I'm not a Jimmy Kimmel person. I know dislike him. I just never watch a show But that him going away bothers me so much less than my understanding of the current situation where he didn't interview with James Taloriko Which he's going to play on YouTube But he's not going to play over the air because of threats from the White House and the FCC That I have a giant problem with yes, so it's an equal time situation with James Taloriko from what I understand So I don't know if that just means he's refusing to host the other side That could be oh yeah, and in which case it's like well the law is the law when it comes to equals No, that's the case that that's case, but if you ask him and he turns it down as he's still a lot to do the Taloriko Yeah, okay. Yeah, I have to do is make the time. Yeah, you yeah, you don't like hat like a no one's
obligated the only person that's obligated is the radio station or television station We are obligated to say yes to both or no to both yeah, but they're not obligated to be honest. I wouldn't you just make the offer I don't think he wants to I mean wouldn't it be a good thing you could cross examine if you don't like the person I think so did he for did he do that? Did we know that he didn't ask I don't know I just googled it and Google says they did not But I don't know if that's 100% Google said yeah, I guess it take it with a great assault. That's just what came up Let's see here Uh love love of love we already talked about anthropic staffer who said a I make it was all within 10 years yadda yadda People are jumping on that bandwagon by the way that came up with the concert last night really robsambi joked about it Yeah You might you resemble him a little bit. I could talk about anthropic Hey, yeah, you you saw Rob's on me last night. Yeah, Anne Marilyn man. That's why didn't you call?
Well, you I didn't know you would make the trip. I might all right next time you're coming. He is on me guy I love I love Rob's on me. Yeah, that's my favorite thing about Dave Murray Never Seriously, I love I had a million billion years to guess I would not have come up because I know you've you've always been cool with Metallica. We've joked about that before Yeah, yeah, you know, I'm a big Jimmy Buffet fan. I love Kenny Chesney But you know what I have a wide range of music likes sure. Hi, I'm where's it going next time We'll get the tickets together because this has to happen. Where was he Uh, Brewerport. Well, how the world can see Yeah, yeah, yeah, Marilyn Manson guy. Yeah, he was with Marilyn Manson Did it play Dracula? He did Dragulous the closer man. That's always the walkoff. He did I heard Kevin watching a video of him playing I was I was Looking at the video and I sent it to my brother But jelly. Yep, he's jelly
Local story here. I saint Louis Postal worker has been accused of dumping at least 30,000 pieces of mail Don't blame it. I You know, it I'd be doing Right after I opened everyone's mail The charge carries a maximum sentence upon conviction of five years in jail and a fine of a quarter of a million dollars Yeah, I'm not saying it's not wrong. I'm just saying I do it I love the fact that you're going through every job and just saying which ones you wouldn't survive like gold Gold Now post a word I wish we'll hear how you would now so far. This is the only one I've survived This I didn't get fired from mr. Donab, but that's about it. So let's relive that for a second The penalty is for what? Dumping 30,000 pieces of mail. Okay good. I think that's fair But that's crazy that that's gonna get you more a jail time than crashing the entire real estate market Which is what Wall Street did in the mid-2000s I'm not like nobody went to jail for any of that but a postal worker is it related? No, no, it's it one one thing
Ruined millions of people And that goes unpunished and then the other thing is still terrible any crime and deserving of its punishment But it's funny that that thing gets up gets five years and the other gets you nothing You know when one person's probably poor But said one person's probably probably well. Yeah, the the postal worker doesn't have you know Million dollar lawyers to hang out there and you know get them off the hook Here's the thing if you're a postal worker once you throw away your first envelope Hey Gateway They've already did the Girl Scout cookie dog story can't do that one So I'll do a heartwarming story to and well actually we kind of don't even have time. Oh No real quick Prisoners at a Kansas facility pulled their funds to pay for school lunch debt For some kids
There are part of a program called Reaching out from within Which is meant for prisoners who want to make lasting changes in their behavior or income role models for non-violence and they pulled a Thousands of dollars together and then some of the the prison staff kicked in another about 450 bucks and they were able to pay this school lunch debt which is really really nice Consider it. They don't even know these kids. They just want to do something kind and really sad that we are expecting prisoners to take care of children Yeah, I just saw I feel it was state it was um a conservative state That uh the legislature just said no to paying for school lunches And one of the representatives oh gosh Said something crappy. I can't remember exactly what flavor of crappy it was but it was basically like We need to teach them responsibility not free loading So yeah, you're requiring to be there. Yes. Yes. Thank you. They appreciate it. All right
So can you embarrassingly blew a high five last night? Yes So we're leaving the show is right after Right after the last song's drag you love it's a great song and we're all like it because we're getting ready to bug out because we know a storm's coming in the song ends And we're just walking out the aisle and there are a couple people I'd look like a father and son, you know father's probably my age maybe a little older sons in his 30s and Everybody's got their hands up because everybody's clapping and all that and I'm walking by this guy and we made eye contact And it looked like hey, this is a good moment man high five and we did it and it was wrong It was weird like elbows were in the wrong position and it was like as you're walking by I just thought it was hilarious. I love those funny little awkward moments in that situation because nobody cares But it's super funny your weenis is touched. No No Yeah, how personal where did that come from you said your elbows oh your weenis is your elbow it is yes Oh, how do you make it through school I know that you even know that we called our elbows we had that name for another thing
Hmm, okay, well, I'm really glad you didn't yeah, that's why I was like wait That was it was not that kind of concert different high five You said elbows it was not that kind of concert. I think I know what you did wrong. Yeah, yeah, I think so He said So you're telling me is like McGuire and so I'm McGuire and can't say it goes they didn't do it elbow bash They did a weenis bash. Yeah, I do not like that at all I didn't even like saying that you said it a lot. Yeah, I know your new favorite word now it's going to be More of this coming up next My job associates
