Triple Emmett's Robbie Gulley. Now, SAS Australia versus England kicks off tonight.
This has been built as the ashes of SAS 730 and one of the madmen who are taking part in this
this year is Ryan Maloney, a formally toad fish from neighbours and he's with us right now.
Ryan, how are you buddy?
Oh, I'm good. Thank you, legend. Tell you.
Doing really well. What have you been up to, Toadie?
Besides running around in the dirt on SAS Australia, since neighbours wrapped up?
I do a lot of farm work, actually. Yeah.
Yeah, I just kind of help people with fencing and look after animals and all that kind of just.
So, yeah, to be cheers a little bit about farming. So, you know, I just help our people.
So what stuff makes stuff, you know?
So, people can actually hire your services as like a farmhand?
Yeah, yeah. Or, you know, television and movies.
Or, you know, I don't know. I'm terrible at one.
No, not the last one.
I love it. I feel like there's a lot of crossover skills there.
Not really.
Someone's light on their resume. I love it.
No, so did you work on farms as a kid? Or what's the story there?
No, we just, we're just as a family. We've been doing it for a little while now.
You know, we kind of moved to some acreage and I'm a hands-on kind of guy and
we're kind of built most of the stuff there. And so now we're doing it again.
And then I was like, well, what am I going to do after neighbours? Well, I actually really love,
you know, building all this kind of stuff. So, let's just do it as a job.
And I'm bloody busy. I'm too busy. I need to slow down a little bit.
I love this. Hey, Tori, I did see in 2001 that your house on the actual neighbours street
did come up for sale? Was there any part of you that wanted to put in a bid?
Or did you just go to the auction out of curiosity?
No, no. I thought I'd actually say away from that auction. I don't think that this
is a good thing. But, yeah, no, I think a neighbours fan. I think there's someone I think
who owns maybe three of them. So, yeah, I think he might have bought that one, yeah.
Oh, they're neighbours fan?
Oh, they've, yeah, they were. I mean, when you think about it though, I mean, it's got a good rent,
good rental turn. So, you know, they put, they put renters in there. They don't live there
themselves. So, they get rent from neighbours and rent from the actual renters themselves. So,
you know, it's a pretty damn good return.
Yeah, I mean, that's the ultimate memorabilia collection really, isn't it? Some people collect
postcards or something and this guy's collecting houses from the show. Yeah, yeah, although, you know,
I'm sure they might have gone down a billion now.
You know, probably the one that was really spewy when neighbours got cancelled.
Most likely, most likely, yeah.
Now, let's talk about essay as Australia, because I was shocked to see you on their
Tony because I feel like, well, Jared, I should say, we're so used to calling you don't
have to say.
But I, you could say Ryan. Oh my god, Ryan, I am so sorry. You went that ingrained in our
psyche. I'm so sorry, Ryan. Did you have to go on essay as Australia just to get
out of the trauma of people calling you toadfish and Jared?
Yeah, I just wanted to add to the trauma.
Help me move past it, yeah.
Well, I was going to say, Ryan, I was shocked to see you on there because typically,
this is where celebrities go when they need to rehab their image and they've done something.
Whereas, you've been pretty, I guess, free of any controversy during your career.
Yeah, yeah, I think I got away with all my drug scandals, so that's right.
Now, look, I don't know. Maybe I need to have a rehab after the essay,
because it was an interesting choice of words that you said that I was mad for doing it,
because as it turns out, like on day one, I was like, is anyone else having trouble breathing?
And everyone was like, no, that's fine. I was like, oh, okay, cool.
Well, like about four weeks later, I thought I was having a heart attack.
And it turns out I had a giant herd, you know, with half of my inside shoved up underneath my left
lung. And that has like this effect on, there's a nerve that runs through there,
which is responsible for emotional regulation. And literally, when I was doing essay, yes,
I thought I was losing my mind. I thought I was having these huge emotional experiences
that were just like, well, what's that hell is going on? And I thought I was going crazy.
So, yeah, you know, maybe after people watch it, they might go, yeah, he's a bit nuts,
and they might want to put me in the big brother house. So obviously, when you found this out,
was this during filming? And I imagine they probably had to operate straight away.
No, no, no, this was like after filming, yeah, like four weeks later, that, you know, I went to
hospital and they were like, you know, you've got a giant hernia. It's the biggest one we've ever seen.
And I was like, no, and they were like, yeah, it's that you've had this for quite a while.
It was like, oh, really? All right, that should be honest. It was probably, you know,
even all through the training, because I trained pretty hard to that. So,
in all honesty, I'm actually disappointed that I didn't actually get the
an opportunity to actually really have a crack in it, because that kind of helped me back a bit.
Gotcha. And so, going into this show, the things that you went through and everything that does
happen, were you expecting it to be as bad as it actually is?
Well, I mean, maybe the interesting thing for the viewers is that they actually don't
see most of the really bad stuff. Right. So, yeah, like, there's a lot that happens.
And when you think about it, there's like 14 people in there, and it's a very kind of incident,
what I think an hour shows. So there's a lot to show, but there's a lot of these things. There's
a, there's so much that happens there. These don't actually get to see. So, which is a bit of a shame,
and it's harder than what it looks. So, that's probably the main takeaway.
Do you know what? I totally agree that it would be harder than it looks on TV, especially when
we're all sitting there doing a armchair commentary. But what is something that we don't see as viewers
that you wish we do see that was really, really hard behind the scenes?
Oh, there was one thing where they just laid it, laid into it. Like, there's a dam that they take
us to. And the track going up and down from the water to the top of the dam is an incredibly
steep hill. And basically, we had our our our burdens on and they just made us run up and down
at doing burpees, doing sit-ups, doing push-ups, basically trying to get, you know, get us to
quit, get us to break. And they, that was the hardest one that I've ever done. And yeah, that was
full-on. That was full-on. And we don't get to see that, which is a shame.
No one knew you had a hand around to this. One of the tasks, actually, one of the
guys who was in the team, he was that exhausted literally. He just fell like fell forward straight
flat on his face on rocks and stuff. And I was like, whoa, man, that's full-on. And then, you know,
like the instructors, they're in his face going, get up, get up, man, whoa, that, okay.
They're ruthless. Hey, is there anyone on the show that we would look at and go, wow, I don't
think they'd be that tough, but they really surprised you with just how much guts they add.
Well, actually, Gabby, she was on the, you know, the UK team, she was a beast. And, you know,
just super impressive. So she was outstanding, I think. God, yeah. That's crazy, isn't it?
I cannot wait to watch tonight, Tony, Tony Ryan. Oh, my God. I'm doing it again. I'm doing it again.
Look, there's going to be going to be going to be kind of silly.
This is so good. Anyway, Ryan Maloney, or do you prefer to go down here?
This is so funny. I apologize. I apologize. He's been through worse.
Yeah, right. You're right. I have. It's fine. I've been called, I seriously have been called a
lot worse. So don't worry. Well, Ryan Maloney, thank you so much for joining us and we cannot wait
to see you tonight on S.A.S Australia. No problem. Thanks, guys. Thanks for having me.
S.A.S Australia versus England that kicks off tonight, 730 on 7 and 7 plus. It's going to be an
absolute ripper. Ryan Maloney, not Jared, not Tony once again. Thank you very much for coming
on the show. It's going to be great to see you on there. It's Tripland, Robbie, and Galley.
