Jarry's Heroics Lift Oilers to Big Win

The Edmonton Oilers stirred up controversy back in December with a major trade.

They sent goalie-stored Skinner, defenseman Britt Kuleck, and a second-round draft pick to acquire

Tristan Jerry and forward Samuel Pullen. The goal was to shore up their shaky goal-tending.

Jerry hit the ground running poorly. In early injury sidelined him, and since returning,

his stats ranked among the worst in the National Hockey League.

His play nearly knocked the Oilers out of playoff contention,

and reports surface of clashes with teammates during practice.

That changed Tuesday night in a showdown against the league-leading Colorado Avalanche.

The Oilers started Conor Ingram, who stopped 15 of 17 shots before getting flattened by Nathan

McKinnon in the second period. With Edmonton leading 3-2, Jerry entered cold off the bench.

Jerry rose to the occasion, turning aside 11 of 12 shots, many right after jumping in.

The victory propelled the Oilers past the Vegas Golden Knights into second place in the Pacific

Division. Their biggest win of the season, teammates held both goalies afterward,

with Ryan Newgen Hopkins calling Jerry s relief effort huge.

No word yet on Ingram's injury, but with games looming Thursday against the Dallas stars,

and Friday vs. the St. Louis Blues, Jerry could carry a heavy load.
