Every day, excessive delays and denials from big insurers keep patients from accessing
the care they need.
And when care is urgent, these delays can be disastrous.
These practices cost billions in wasteful spending, driving up costs for American families.
But while big insurers put up barriers, America's hospitals and health systems are in your corner,
navigating endless reviews and appeals to get you the care you need when you need it
most.
It's time to curb these harmful practices and put the focus back on patients.
Brought to you by the coalition to strengthen America's health care.
Connection has been made on the UMA guest line.
This guy and I go back to the 90s when we were at the San Francisco examiner together.
In fact, he's the only guy missing at Michelle Smith's book party and I was Glenn Schwartz
and John Shea and Ray Rato and Michelle Smith and you should have been there, Jeff.
So good to have you back, man.
You're old buddy Murf here.
I got my partner Marcus Jeff Chidiha NFL.com NFL Network.
How you doing, man?
Hey, what's up, Jeff?
Good, man.
Good to hear your voice, Murf.
And sorry for being late.
I was on a different radio show, it ran a little bit long, so you're doing the circuit today,
huh?
Oh, yeah.
This time of year, everybody wants to talk about how great their teams are, how those big
moves.
I know.
I know.
I know.
Right.
Nobody's saying that.
Nobody's saying that.
All right, man.
Well, listen, we need your evaluation.
So you won't be a homer like us here in the Bay, Mike Evans to the 49ers.
Your reaction.
I'm a big Mike Evans fan because I'm known for a long time, and I think he still has
something left.
He's not a to me.
He's not a true number one receiver anymore because of his age and durability issues, but
he can be, he can help that team.
I mean, obviously, he's been a lot of issues with receiver, the receivers there, especially
receivers getting hurt.
Sorry, I used to see in that, but the money surprised me, but if he's healthy, and he can
still do some things for you offensively.
So I see it as a positive as long as his hamstrings hold up.
Yeah.
Well, Jeff, I got to say the money also surprised me a little bit, three years, $60 million, but
it's only 16.5 million guaranteed, which essentially makes it a one year deal for $16.5 million.
What can you tell us about the market?
It seems like Tampa Bay was trying to keep him out there in the other Bay.
There were some reports floated out that he would make $25 to $27 million per year this year.
So what was the offseason market for Mike Evans?
Yeah, well, you can never really trust what's being said about players this time of year because
they just dropped the prices.
He's had a great running Tampa Bay, and I am shocked a little bit, not shocked, but surprised
it didn't work out there because he found a way to stay before at a pretty healthy price
that time.
But you look at the market in general, man.
It was a weird receiver, a weird receiver market because of what Alex Pierce got, the
first trading, Michael Pittman, Romeo Dobbs, doesn't have a job.
Londell Robinson got a deal before Dobbs did.
And so I just felt like there wasn't a lot of great talent out there.
And so maybe that speaks to the desire for teams to go out and get someone like a Mike Evans,
you know, people standing on the street right now, we'll see what happens with him.
And so it's not a ton of options out there.
And so the guys who were trustworthy, it's well for themselves.
Jeff Gidey as the voice you hear, of course, he used to work here in the Bay Area.
And now does NFL.com and NFL Network Jeff a little bit about the marriage of Mike, Mike Evans
and Kyle Shanahan.
People seem to be, you know, film heads seem to be really thrilled by this.
Like it's his first true ex since he got to San Francisco.
Maybe he had it with Julio Julio Jones.
Have you thought about that marriage, Kyle and and Evans?
All right.
I haven't thought about it from that standpoint, but it's a good point to be made that you think about,
obviously, Dibo was not a, he was, I don't say more of a gadget type player,
but he was a very unique type of receiver.
Brenna, you was only had one year there where he really took off and did some great things before he got hurt.
I like that idea.
I like the idea of what Shanahan can do with a veteran receiver who's been around,
who's played with talented quarterbacks.
Mike Evans, whoever he's had with him, he's put up numbers.
And that outside of time, Brady, you think about Baker Mayfield, even the James Winston days,
he was putting up numbers when he was younger.
And so yeah, I think there probably is a little bit of a geekish park to this relationship.
I don't think Mike, I don't think they make this move.
John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are very savvy player, people when it comes to violating talent.
I don't think they're making this move.
They don't believe Mike Evans could benefit from being around Shanahan.
Mike Evans is currently 32 years old.
He'll turn 33 in August before the season starts.
So Jeff, to me, this really looks like a win now move for the 49ers.
With that being said, I would love to get your take on the Trent Williams situation.
Would it make sense for the 49ers to move on, release or trade Trent Williams after signing a guy like Mike Evans?
Well, certainly in play, right?
I mean, that's what all their ports are saying.
And he is of an age.
How old is he now?
37?
38?
38?
38.
Wow.
He's getting that Jackie Slater territory.
If you can, if you can get resources for Trent Williams at 38.
Sorry, he's 37.
He'll be, sorry, Jeff, interrupt.
He's, he'll be 38 July.
He's 37.
Okay.
Okay.
I was going to say it.
38.
It's a crop.
It's one year.
But it does, it does sound a lot worse.
Yes.
But yeah, I think if you can get something for him, great.
But I don't know what the market is going to be like.
Again, he'd be talking about a team that is in a win now mode.
And I've topped my head.
I can't think of too many teams that you left tackle badly who are in win now mode.
Who wouldn't have gone out and gotten one already?
So I don't know what's going to be out there for him at this stage of his career.
Jeff, did he have the voice you hear?
Of course NFL.com and NFL Network is the four nearest sign Mike Evans.
It just seems plus, plus like we said, the only concern is a little bit of hamstring.
Jeff, your view of the NFC West, obviously, see how the sea hooks are super bowl champs.
And already Vegas has installed the Rams as super bowl favorites.
Gosh, they went and got Trent McDuffy in addition to everything else.
Do you see the 49ers as a viable contender?
I mean, they won 12 games last year in an injury marred season.
They did have a soft schedule.
Or do you see the NFL as like volatile and that the Rams and sea ox?
There's no lock that they're going to be great next year.
What's your read or early read on the NFC West repeating its power structure next year?
Well, one I do believe that the Niner should be in the mix.
If you do what they did with all the injuries they took on, to me, that was one of the most impressive coaching jobs.
I've seen and I voted for Kyle Shanahan as coach of the year when I had opportunities to vote on different sites,
because I thought that he did an amazing job of losing that many talented players and keeping that thing going.
And so you get healthy.
Now they are older in some places and so that does matter.
But yeah, I look at what the Rams did.
Their second area is now Chiefs West.
But it's everybody is feeling, I think what happened is past off season and a lot of teams looked and said,
man, there's so much parity and we're all pretty even.
If we can make one or two moves, we can probably get a little bit of an edge when we get down to December and January.
And so while the Rams are everybody's drawing right now what they did and the the the ox have the championship,
I certainly think all three of those teams are going to be in the conversation for winning a championship again next year.
Jeff, the 49ers won 12 games last year and large parts of Mac Jones stepping in and starting games when Brock
Pretty went down with an injury.
We've talked a lot this off season about potentially treading way Mac Jones.
Now that you've seen Malik will sign down in Miami.
Sounds like there's a connection between Kyle Murray and potentially the Minnesota Vikings.
Do you feel like there's a landing spot or a job opening for a trade opportunity for Mac Jones anywhere in the league?
Well, I know Pittsburgh dealers don't have a quarterback right now.
At least one that they they don't really feel good about as a starter.
So that's that's one place and the jets my other spot that they'd be looking for a quarterback help.
And I like Mac Jones another candidate to revive his career somewhere else.
So if you're able to find resources for him on a deal, that'd be a smart move because I think what a lot of teams are seeing,
especially what happened with Sam Arnold.
To a certain extent what happened with Jalen Hurst before he got really good in Philadelphia is that there's there's a.
It's you don't have to go win.
You don't have to go find a great quarterback to win a championship and Brock Pretty is an example in San Francisco that he's done well there.
There's a lot more teams up there who are recognizing that we can build a great roster and insert a good to very good quarterback to lead our charge.
That gives us a chance to win it to win a title.
And so I think Sam Arnold really reinforced that notion that it's not about finding somebody who can be there for 12 15 years and go to five probals.
It's about finding somebody who can help you within a three, four year window.

Before let's go Jeff. Just around the league the biggest move Friday was the max cross beat to the Ravens trade. Who won that trade?
I feel like. Well, that's it. I like what the Ravens did. I think I think the Raiders got a better deal out of again to first round picks.
But I feel like max frauds be on the Ravens with Rowquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton some other guys there.
Give that team a chance to turn the corner. So I'll give it to the Ravens because they would not have made this kind of move in their history unless they believe they could put it with a championship.
So this is there. This is their big move. They're big swing. And so they got to win a championship.
But I think they can do a match cross. The Raiders got two first round draft picks from the Ravens and also were able to poach away Tyler Linderbaum from the Ravens and free agency.
Jeff just your thoughts on the amount of money that the Raiders spent yesterday. It seems like they were the clear cut winner of yesterday's free agency.
Oh, yeah. Well, they were the spending winners. We'll see if that ends up equating the wind on the field.
But I like the aggressiveness. They're in their division very much like the NFC West where there's a lot of really good teams.
And they had to find a way to fight their way into the conversation as far as being relevant.
The Linderbaum contract might be the wildest kind of ever seen in NFL history given it was a center that got it. And the next closest paid player was at 18 million dollars a year and he went to 27 million.
So I know who they were bidding against, but look, I think Tom Brady being over there. I think it could be that coming in.
They want to get off the ground. They have to make things good for their quarterback when he shows up. I'm assuming it's Fernando Mendoza.
And so I think they got some of the players. I think Linderbaum's good. I think Clay Walker and the Colby Dean makes sense. The trade for Tyran Johnson from Buffalo, the nickel corner.
And so they still have a long ways to go, but they spent some money and they made some positive steps.
Jeff, before you go a little hometown, you're out in Kansas City, Kenneth Walker to the chiefs. And is there a belief my homes is ready week one?
Well, there's a hope that he's ready for week one. We'll see how that plays out given how late that injury happened. And so he's whatever working out seven hours a day and doing all kinds of crazy stuff.
So, you know, I think they're hoping that's the case, but just Walker for them is a good move because it really signifies they're they're going to make a shift offensively.
They've been so reliant on RPOs. My homes trying to make incredible things happen offensively with his improvisational skills.
And big about they had 155 RPOs ran last year. I think the Niners ran like nine. And so it's the most humanist leagues are in this league are running the football doing play action.
They got Kent Walker to make that kind of happen. Make that thing happen for them now.
It's funny. I was just thinking about top my head. I was going to try to look it up real quick with like in the Mahomes era.
I just have the stats right in front of them. They don't have a single thousand yard rush to do. I mean, it's crazy.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's rushed for more yards since 2018 and the two backs they had last year in Isaiah,
going cream hunt. And he had more explosive runs than any of all their running bass combined lesser.
I think he had like two over 20 yards and every other running back combined had one.
Yeah. So that's an identity change for the chiefs. That'll be interesting. So great catching up, man.
And hopefully we can do it again. And we'll continue to follow you on NFL network NFL calm. Thanks, man. Yeah. Thanks, Jeff.
Thank you guys. I appreciate it. Yeah. Jeff Chidiha on the Uma guest lines saying, yeah, that I'm looking at it.
I'm looking at it to just a little quick check the chiefs lead. So I'm going back to 20 the last thousand yard rush.
Where they had was cream hunt in 2017, dude, 2017. So that means even in like 2021, Darryl Williams, five 58,
2023 Isaiah, a particular got nine, 35, the closest, but they have, I mean, so that's an identity shift for them.
If they're going to feed Kenneth Walker a lot, they're going to become like a run based chief in office.
And last year, cream hunt led the team in Russian yards with 611 Patrick, my homes had 422.
And he missed multiple games at the end of the season. I think at one point of the season, Patrick, my homes led the team in Russian yards.
Incredible story. So all right. Well, listen, Mike Evans plus plus, despite Jose from Oakland's C plus grade.
I'm very excited about it.
