Jeremy looks into Keon Coleman’s Long-Term Future in Buffalo

0:00I said the same, the mentality and the the wipe behind it. It's a little deeper, deeper, deeply rooted. Yeah, it's just different vibes, you know, understanding what's our stake. We want to win. You know, it's your one with cold Brady and we want to, we going out there with a chip in our shoulder and things to prove. Keon Coleman listed on the death chart above Josh Palmer, right? How much does that really matter? Hmm, you decide. Jeremy and Joe, good morning, everybody. 8030550 happy NFL opening day patriots and sea hawks tonight from Seattle. And New England will have to go out there and prove something else. People are going to say their schedule merchants for another, you know, 10 days till they play again. And their early portion of the schedule is somewhat difficult. But anyway, I want to get something on Keon Coleman. The Patriots open against the sea hawks and go home for the Steelers. Aaron Rodger says the Steelers are super bowl contenders. And that's why he returned. Uncle, excuse me, Uncle.

1:00How much are you out there? And I'll tell you how I am here, open to the idea that he is a still a long term idea for this, for this team. They didn't trade him in the off season, which when we talked about that a lot, Joe and I talked about that. I was off the belief that I took him with their word that they were going to keep him because they probably couldn't get a trade that they liked and or they still believe in him. But the receiver market and how much money guys like that get Michael Wilson in Arizona, just signed for 25 million a year neighborhood, right? Huge A A V for Michael Wilson, who had a bit of a breakout with the Cardinals last season. And that contract didn't exactly come as a surprise, but that's big money for a guy that's a third round pick and had a couple of solid seasons and 25 million. And whether receiver becomes like running back where they are high paid guys and then low paid guys in the middle class kind of disappears, like we've

2:03seen that a little bit. And when the bills went out and got Josh Palmer and Curtis Samuel, I made a point to look at all the receiver salaries. Now, there really aren't guys that live in the middle class. You get your 20 and by the way, that's all moved up now. So by the time Coleman were to be do a deal, he can resign at the end of this year or he could go to finish out year four and get a contract, but it's, it's reasonably likely that when Coleman signs his next contract without even a big breakout season, just being a guy that contributes and puts up 900, 600 of 900 yards or 10 touchdowns or seven touchdowns of red zone threat. It is very possible that his next deal is 20 million a year north of that. We're two years away from when that would be and all these salaries, you know, they move up all the time. It's endlessly moving up. So I'm open to him being a big role player, being a big contributor. If he's wide receiver to behind DJ Moore, I think that's possible.

3:07I wouldn't rule that out. I don't know that I can envision a scenario where I'm going to think paying him is a good idea though. And that's kind of like the Gabe Davis track for me. Davis was good. As productive, more productive, more reliable, more whatever team leader mature, that kind of side of it. Like Davis did everything they wanted and they let him walk. And at the time he got what 13 million year, fast forward a couple seasons. If Coleman has a great season by what any of us would want to say, what would be a great season for Coleman 900 yards and eight touchdowns, I would be not all that interested in a extension. It's just it doesn't seem like good math. I'm there into spot tracks, future contracts and what, like where the bills are committed from a AAV standpoint in 2028.

4:08And with more, you're at 27 and a half. And with Shakira, you're at like 11 or 12. I just, I don't, I don't know that there is an avenue to that. That doesn't mean you have to get rid of them. That doesn't mean you have to cut them. You know, let his, his problems the last couple seasons, getting benched by Sean McDermott from being late to meetings or whatever. If they didn't like the on the field maturity, we're covering from an injury. Like he's had his very public critics inside the organization to a degree. But if you can get through that and battle through that and be okay and be a productive player, like I got two years of a job that he could have. And I don't know that I'll need to upgrade that now that the bills are not leaning on him fully. Let's, we talked endlessly about goal tending, right? If you're goalie that you're playing 60 games isn't good enough, but you now start to lean on them for 20 games. Oh, that looks good enough. That's good enough for a backup. Like that's what is the biggest change for Coleman here.

5:08He is not looked at as the savior, the next wide receiver one. And when he was drafted, that was kind of thrust onto him. So whether it's immaturity or skill set or being miscast, you know, you could, you could layer a lot of it in there. All that said, I am both open to him being a contributor, being somewhat important, being valuable. I just, I don't know the avenue I see to him getting paid unless he's the 35, 40 million dollar guy because he's so good you can't imagine life without him. That's, that's probably how you should view the position for the most part is Skyler Bell. When his deals up, I know we're looking way ahead now. What's the worth? Is he worth 40 or is he worth, I'll take a draft pick because Coleman's a second round pick and can still be a part of it if they throw him the ball,

6:08hopefully not forcing him the ball, which they were kind of doing before. He didn't earn those wraps. He didn't earn those throws. Just don't know the, the avenue for him. If he blows up, great, great. Then, you know, use that up. You got a second round pick, second round pick contract. That's good and that's, that's great with Coleman. I don't see an avenue to resigning them, but I'm, we'll see. Like time will tell with King Cade, it maybe gets tougher. Tucker Kraft is about to sign a big huge contract. The extension, I saw that. And for King Cade, he's not the tight end that the top tight ends are. You might get to a spot where extending King Cade happens next off season because he takes what looks like a sweet deal. He looks like he takes what looks like less than the top of the market, despite putting up good numbers in the passing game. And I feel like that's somewhat possible because he's not your cradle.

7:09He's not your craft. He's not your, your guy that's out there doing everything tight ends do. He is a wide receiver tight end and has that job. So he'd get paid well, but not at the top of the position. I'm not sure about him. He's got to stay healthy past that. I think there's a lot of, there's whatever. The bills, the bills love extending their own. They, they view that as, as a, as a success story. And to a point it is, but again, it is not the ultimate goal. And sometimes signing a guy gets in the way of somebody you would have drafted. It could be, could be better. I'm not sure if I'm thinking the same way with King Cade, but that's definitely where I, where I feel about Coleman. So 803 05 50. If you have a thought of that, do you have a clean slate with Coleman? Or do you feel like let's get what we can get? And then, you know, when the time comes, you'll, you'll move in a different direction because that's where I'm more likely going to land. Listen, it's worth mentioning that we might by Monday, forget about the bills being 1 and hour, 1 and 1, by Monday, you might have a team you think is going to win the Super Bowl or you might have a coach who had a bad punt and you are furious about it. Really might get a, I trusted the defense. That's the fourth quarter. The bills have a fourth and two at the plus 44 and Joe Brady punts and the defense doesn't make a stop. There's no Sean McDermott to blame there. You know, if he's a, what if he's a fourth down, Wimp, he might be. It's true. I don't think he is right. I know. That's the number one question in America for me.

11:13He aced their test on fourth down calling. What were the right answers? Who decides what the right answers are? I decide. I don't decide. I just have an opinion on them. Just saying like we don't know what we don't know. It's wonderful to be in a spot where you're not mad at a player yet and then they're on your team for a while and on your mat. Hi guys. You know, I like your key on Coleman idea as a total reset. And here's what I've been thinking for about three months, you know, a couple of handful years ago. I don't know what year it was. We had digs and we had Beasley. And I think Knox was our tight end. And all of a sudden we had a guy as a rookie named Gabe Davis. And I feel like it's the same scenario set up, you know, with more. She cures like our Beasley, you can cade. But this time he comes in this year with with experience, you know, I mean, he might

12:14have some bad bad memories or whatever, but I like this set up. I just reminds me of Gabe Davis. And I'm not saying he's going to have nine touchdowns or whatever Davis had that first year, but, you know, he's not a focal point and you can't cover everybody. So I'm excited for him. Yeah. Thanks. Right. Davis, the biggest problem if we go back however many years, Davis was a good, good player, a very popular player. People liked him a lot. And then came the time should this player get elevated to a higher role in this offense. And there were many that said, no, the bills did it and it didn't go as well. He maybe put up about the same numbers, but it just didn't go as well. And it was clear it didn't go as well. There are offense, you know, kind of still great, still had great pieces, but it just, it looked like it was a miscalculation that he was just going to step in as your number

13:14two is the birth of the wide receiver train. Gabe Davis, who's nicknamed on the provable references big game, Gabe. I mean, Davis in his, his four seasons with the bills, 599, 549, then he's elevated the number two, 836 and 746. And then it's over. And last year he had 18 catches two. Now he was a, he was a great example of a good player, really good player, perfectly in a role like everything that's going on. Don't over, over roll him. Don't elevate him there. Someone else is the right answer, a draft pick and keep him where he is. And you know, he was a serviceable number two, seven touchdowns. With Coleman, he's, he's in the spot where now he, he kind of had the reverse, right? He started up there and now maybe he can come down below and be more appreciated. I mean, it is kind of funny. Like if you think about Davis in his first two seasons, when he is 35 catches, 600 yards

14:16and seven and six touchdowns, this is a heck of a player like this guy. He had 14 fourth seasons, you know, 836 and 746. He had more and we were, at least I was, underwhelmed. Like your number two now is, it's, it's not the right hierarchy. And Coleman maybe has the reverse of that early on, looked too, too much, now drifts down for the next two years, have two good seasons. And then, you know, the bills can say they're talking to him, say they like him and then you know, let him walk. But as you make that comparison, it did, it did occur to me this week. Again, I mentioned this earlier, maybe yesterday with college football starting in my love of, you know, future bills, wide receiver, Nick Marsh, future bills, wide receiver, Charlie Becker. Like, you know, it's, it's because they are, again, they're going to be right at the time where you want to start to plan ahead for DJ Moore to have a good year. And then next year have a good year.

15:18And by the third year, you are ready with someone else and now he does the thing where the role comes down. I know we're always talking receiver. Just, you know, it's, it's, it's fun. It's fun and it's interesting. I have a let's get stupid from the weekend that I never got to. You guys want to do a let's get stupid? All right, let's kick something around with me. It's about review and replay. And it's pretty stupid because you know, replay tends to be, here's my let's get stupid. Because the Michigan and Western Michigan outcome from Saturday, the Hail Mary, all that stuff, that led me to thinking about a world without replay. And here's the let's get stupid. What would happen if we fractured the sports world? Like a conference that breaks apart. And the SEC is no more. Some teams go here, some teams go there. It doesn't have the SEC. Happened to the big east, happened to the pack 12, every man for himself.

16:22Somehow, some way there's a rift in the sports world. And there becomes a league with no review and a league with extensive reviews and stoppages like we currently have. The sports world fractures, which one gets the higher ratings, which one gets more money, which one is more loved? Which league wins endless review or no review endless has to be relative. I know you're not a reviewer, but the way review is going or we're just going to play games, which league wins. I know you'd say like, what are the bills and what? Just try to imagine. Which one does Josh go to? There's clones. All right, it's let's get stupid. Aliens come down and they clone every sports player and every team and they say you must have two competing leagues, all review, no review. Which league is more popular?

17:22I think I think you know which one I'm watching. I don't have to be right. I think here's what I think would happen to a lot of people is they would start in review world because they would think I don't want to be so mad at the referees when something happens and then whatever four games in when they've gotten through their 17th video review and feels oppressive and horrible like it does now. I think they would go, let me get a taste of that non-reviewable. Just watch when I watch games. And you never go back. Every time there's a commercial they stop like let me see what's going on in other bills. Yeah, right. Yeah. And the parallel universe. I would totally take the no review all day every day. In this world we're now talking about you're watching one bills game on channel four. They're down 10, three. You flip over the other bills game on channel seven and they're up 24 to nothing. You might as well just watch whichever one they're winning in. Reviews are not. We got to find a way. It's like it's like raining in AI. Someone needs to do this with reviews.

18:23We got to have a sports czar to come in and say hold on. Let's all slow down for a minute. We've advanced too far.
