Jes Staley And The Transcripts From His Epstein Related Trip To Congress (Part 8) (9/4/26)

About this episode

The transcripts from Jes Staley’s July 24, 2026 interview with the House Oversight Committee revealed just how deep and personal his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein became, while also exposing contradictions in the way Staley had described that relationship publicly. Staley acknowledged visiting Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse dozens of times, traveling to Little St. James on multiple occasions and exchanging roughly 1,200 communications with Epstein between 2008 and 2012. He admitted that he had shared confidential and potentially market-sensitive JPMorgan information with Epstein, including details about the bank’s business, client relationships, pending transactions and even communications involving the Federal Reserve during the 2008 financial crisis. Staley also told investigators that he had discussed his own compensation with Epstein and sought his advice, despite previously portraying Epstein as having little or no connection to his professional life after the 2008 conviction. He further acknowledged having a sexual encounter with one of Epstein’s assistants after meeting her through Epstein, while insisting that Epstein did not arrange it and that he had no knowledge that the woman had later accused Epstein of abuse.

The committee also pressed Staley on some of the strangest and most troubling material in his correspondence with Epstein, including the notorious “Snow White” emails and other references to Disney characters. Staley denied having sex with a woman dressed as Snow White and said he could not explain the meaning of some of the messages, even when investigators confronted him with contemporaneous emails and photographs. He maintained that he did not know Epstein was continuing to abuse girls after his 2008 conviction, calling that revelation “incredible,” yet the transcripts also showed that Staley personally argued for JPMorgan to keep Epstein as a client even as internal concerns about Epstein’s cash withdrawals and potential trafficking activity were mounting. Staley also said he had spoken with Jamie Dimon about Epstein, something Dimon and JPMorgan have disputed. Taken together, the testimony painted a picture of a relationship that was far closer, more intertwined with Staley’s professional life and more difficult to reconcile with his earlier descriptions than he had previously acknowledged.

What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to dive right back in to the Jess Staley transcript from his trip to Congress. Question. When you reported it to Mary Erdo's, he gets corrected by Staley, he may have been Langford? Question Langford. What did you say? Answer. I said this. This is something that I think both Mary and I said this is something very concerning. And let's get the bank to look into it and decide what to do. Question. Why did they not part ways with Mr. Epstein at the time? Answer. My understanding is the bank restricted as activity significantly within the bank. And while looking back, it may not seem as much, but back then, that was a major move by the bank. And I think for the moment in time that deemed sufficient withdrawal of the bank's Epstein business activities. Question. How many meetings took place on this? Answer. I don't know how off in the Rapid Response Team met. Question for the record. The committee has reviewed documents that

reflect at least five to six meetings on this topic. Staley also, those Rapid Response meetings would also, I think, were filed with the federal government. Question. Thank you. In July 2006, Mr. Epstein was arrested for the first time for soliciting prostitution for minors. Did you discuss the allegations with Mr. Epstein? Answer. Yes. Question. Can you describe what happened in that conversation? Answer. Again, he said he was shocked by the allegation he denied it and he denied the ages. Question. Palm Beach Detective Joseph Riccari spoke out about his belief that Epstein was tipped off about the raid since multiple computers expected to be at his house were missing when the search warrant was executed. Did anyone tip off Mr. Epstein to the raid? Answer. I have no idea. Question. Did you ever hear of anyone informing Mr. Epstein about the impending search warrant? Answer. No. Question. Were you surprised by his arrest? Answer. Sure. Question. Why? Answer. Because I had known Epstein for a number of years. Again, he was involved

with things like hybrid capital transaction and someone who, you know, gets arrested with sex with a minor, that shocking. Now, Ms. Tolen jumps in. Question. What exactly did Mr. Epstein tell you had occurred that led to his arrest? Answer. I think there was press about victims reporting to authorities that they were victimized and I think that's what prompted it. Question. What did he tell you about his side of the story? Or did he tell you something different? Ms. Brinyak. So on his arrest, it's published in the press more people are becoming aware. Did you begin to hear any rumors that his conduct with minors or young women? Answer. Just what I read in the press. Question. But did you discuss it with anyone else in your financial circle? Did any more information become available as you began to discuss it with others? Answer. Separate from the press. I don't believe so. Question. The FCA says they doubted you were surprised at the arrest given all the reports and allegations that you were aware of by then. Answer. In 2006. Question. Correct. The FCA found that the bank at

large was well aware and that by 2006, the reports and allegations he was facing caused them to doubt to believe that you would have been surprised. Answer. Are you sure that's 2006? I think the bank was as surprised as I was. Question. The FCA said that by 2006, but definitely by 2010. JP Morgan was aware given Mary Erdo's testimony. Answer. That's four years. So let's ask a question in the context of 2010. Question. So my question to you is, do you think the FCA stated that they doubt you were surprised by the allegations? Answer. I think in 2010, I would not have been surprised by the allegations. Question. Why? Answer. He'd gone to jail for it. Question. So at the time, you did understand that he was soliciting prostitution for minors. Answer. He had pleaded guilty and he'd gone to jail. Question. Thank you. Now we got Ms. Tollin again. And just one quick follow-up on the rapid response meeting that we were discussing a moment ago. Why were you not part of the team

or those meetings? Staley, because I was not part of the rapid response team. Brynjack now asking questions. Question. I would like to enter into the record majority exhibit seven. This is an email exchange between you, Mr. Staley and Mr. Epstein on November 1st, 2009. It's baitstamped EFTA 007 68032. Brynjack will go off the record to pass this out and give you a moment to review. We'll go back on the record. Question. So on November 1st, 2009, you ate email Mr. Epstein. So when all hell breaks loose and the world is crumbling, I'll come here and be at peace. Presently, I'm in the hot tub with the glass of white wine. This is an amazing place, truly amazing. Next time we're here together, I owe you so much and I deeply appreciate your friendship. I have you so profound. Mr. Staley, what prompted you to send this email? Answer. I believe this is when I visited his ranch. I was an albacurkey on business and my understanding was he had the largest

ranch in the state of New Mexico. He wasn't there, but I was going to travel home that day. I asked if I could stop by and see his ranch. There was a couple taking care of the ranch. I was there. They happened to have a saddled horse for me, I ride horses. So I went for a quick ride on the horse, got off, and I remember in the basement of the house, it was like a spy area with a big swimming pool. And I just went there to take a shower and change. And I believe there was, I took a shower, and I jumped into the hot tub. I think there was a mini bar, and I grabbed the glass of white wine, and I later sent them the email. Question. What did you mean by I owe you so much? Answer, you know, he had been helpful in my career. He had done, he was instrumental in the hybrid transaction. He had given me, you know, advice along the way. And I was visiting this extraordinary ranch. And as I said, I use a few of language. And that's what I was doing. Question you testified earlier that you understood that he did solicit prostitution from minors when he pled guilty. He've led guilty in 2008.

And you sent this email in 2009. So why did you maintain your friendship with Mr. Epstein? Who would solicit prostitution for minors? Answer again, it's inconceivable to me that he would have continued, and I thought he had paid his fine. He had gone to jail. My expectation, as he would have reformed himself. And so I maintain the relationship because he had done a number of viable things to me and my career. Question, so you maintain your relationship with a sex offender, because he did valuable things for your career. Answer, I thought it was a one-off event. And so, no, I didn't think I'll leave it at that. Question, why did you believe he would reform himself? Question, because I would think if you would go, if you spent time in jail, the last thing you would do is repeat the behavior that put you in jail. Question, Mr. Staley, you seem to have a great recollection about the ranch and all the events that took place there in 2009. But you can't remember the snow white events of July 2010, based on your memory. Can you help reconcile my confusion on this?

Answer, one thing getting in the car, driving an hour, going to a ranch, riding on a horse, seeing all new environment, you know, using the spa, the whole thing surrounding it. As opposed to someone who apparently I crossed, you know, for a few minutes, I think it's quite a difference. Question, do you normally see young women in Halloween costumes at your friend's house? Answer again, I don't recall that I met someone in a Halloween costume. Question, but you said you may have. Answer, I don't, he gets cut off. Question, that's not an event you recall. Answer, I don't remember seeing snow white. Question by Ms. Tolin, and when you visited his ranch, did you see anyone else there besides the couple who worked there? Answer no, just the couple in the horse. Question on your visits to any of Mr. Epstein's properties, did you see anything unusual? Answer no. Question, it's been reported that Mr. Epstein kept nude photographs in his home. Did you ever see nude photographs? Answer no. Question, did you see unusual artwork? Answer yes, question what did you see?

Answer, the one that stands out is that he had a painting of someone reclining in a chair with like sort of a dress on with the head of President Clinton. Question, do you know why he had this photograph? Answer no. Question, did you ever ask about it? Answer, I think he saw it as some sort of joke. Question, in prior testimony, you've stated that over 25 individual entities were referred to the bank by Mr. Epstein to include Sergei Brin, Google, Sultan Ahmed, Bin Suluim, Ehud Burak, Peter Mandelson, Mordzakramin, Lafrak family, hybrid capital management, Glenn Dubin, Yvodubin, Andrew Farcus, Catherine Rumler, Bill Gates, Leon Black, Boris Nigelich, David Gergen, Larry Summers, Nathan Mirvald, Kimball Musk, Elon Musk, Les Wexner, Bill Richardson, and George Mitchell, is that correct? Answer, yes. Question, did Mr. Epstein also facilitate meetings between individuals at J.P. Morgan with Andrew Mountbatten-Winzor, formally known as Prince Andrew? Answer, I don't believe so. Question, I believe you previously testified that he did. Answer that he did?

Question is your testimony? Answer, so ask a question again, sorry. Question as Mr. Epstein facilitated meetings between individuals at J.P. Morgan with Andrew Mountbatten-Winzor, formally known as Prince Andrew? Answer, yes, sorry, I apologize. Question, thank you. Why did Mr. Epstein refer these clients to J.P. Morgan? Answer, I think it was part of him building out his network, and I think in hindsight, I think that he was what he was doing was, you know, we thought he was introducing us to these people to help J.P. Morgan. When I think he was showing to these individuals that he was connected to J.P. Morgan to build his credibility, question did all these referrals eventually become clients of J.P. Morgan? Answer, I think many of them were already clients actually, and some of them became clients, yes, like Larry and Sergie Brinn of Google became clients on the back of that. Question, did you benefit from any of these client referrals? Answer, I mean if you're running the private bank, and you get introduced to three of the five wealthiest men potentially in the world, yeah, that's a valuable thing. Question, but

did it actually benefit your career? Did you realize any benefit in your career? Answer, beyond what is reflected in the private bank, I didn't personally get something individually because like, there's no finder fear or something like that, if that's what you're referring to. Answer, there's no monetary benefit. Answer, no. Question, did you manage the client's accounts? Answer, no. Question, did Epstein ever ask you to take a role in someone's account? Answer, no. Question, was Mr. Epstein involved in any of the accounts? Answer, no. Question, how much revenue did J.P. Morgan generate from Mr. Epstein's new client referrals? Answer, I wasn't aware then, but I've read subsequent it would be, you know, well over 100 million. Question, and that would have made him an incredibly valuable client, correct? Answer, yeah. I think the introduction of people that, of the level of people that he brought us, was very valuable, yes. Question, do you think his value caused J.P. Morgan to turn their heads at the suspicious things that Mr. Epstein was engaged in? Even following 2008? Answer again, I was not part of the bank that

reviewed his account. I was not part of the rapid response team. I was not part of compliance, so I'd be speculating as to what their motivations were. Question, I'm asking you to speculate, do you believe that J.P. Morgan kept Mr. Epstein as a high-risk client because he generated so much revenue for the bank? Answer, no, I don't. I think J.P. Morgan felt that the principal activity of the private bank is to invest money, and I think Morgan took the decision to no longer deal with Epstein in the management of his assets. That was a major move by the bank against him in the bank's mind. Question, who had visibility into Mr. Epstein's accounts? Answer, I think the banker is that managed his accounts. I think compliance did, I think legal did, I think risk did, and people in operations did. Question, did you answer no? Question, did you ever review any transaction? Answer, no. Question, were his transactions ever discussed with you? Answer, at some point I learned that he was making cash with draws, and I asked him about that because cash withdrawals were a red light for the bank

and a red light for regulators. Question, when did you become aware of that? Answer, I'm not exactly sure the year, but I want to say 2010, 2011. Question, and who was responsible for reviewing the transactions? Answer, again, members of the rapid response team, heads of compliance, people involved in legal, and I think ultimately my recollection is it did go all the way to the general council of the bank? Question, and who was that? Answer, at the beginning of 2009, 2010, I think it was Steve Cutler. All right folks, we're going to wrap up right here, and in the next episode we're going to pick up with question, did you ever ask Mr. Epstein about the cash withdrawals?
