Jets Seek Veteran Backup QB

With the NFL today, March 20th, the New York Jets have brought in Geno Smith as their

starting quarterback for 2026, but they're still searching for a reliable veteran.

Back up, General Manager Darren Moogie is prioritizing experience behind the starter

to keep the team steady. Earlier this week, Carson Wentz, who was a top

rumor thanks to his past work with new offensive coordinator Frank Reich, decided to

resign with the U. Minnesota Vikings instead. That leaves the Jets back to the drawing board.

Fans and analysts see Tyra Taylor as a natural fit since he backed up the Jets in 2025,

stepping in for six games when Justin Fields struggled or got hurt. At this stage,

Taylor remains a capable number two option. Another strong candidate is Joe Flacco,

the former Super Bowl MVP who spent time with the Jets from 2020 to 2022. He appeared in 12

games there, tossing 14 touchdowns against just six picks and stayed sharp last year with the

Browns and Bengals, where he threw 13 touchdowns for over 1,600 yards in nine games with Cincinnati.

With both Flacco, now 41, and Taylor available in free agency, the Jets have solid choices to bolster

their death chart as training camp approaches.
