Jewish Pluralism Watch

Masorti Voice

About this episode

Tu Bishvat - the birthday of the trees and...Israeli democracy? While Tu Bishvat is all about our connection to nature and the world around us, in Israel we also celebrate a very different occasion, the creation of the Knesset. On Tu Bishvat 1949, 67 years ago, the Israeli House of Representatives convened for the first time in an act that marked the beginning of the modern Israeli democracy. The relationship between that governing body and Masorti Israel is complex as state policies do not typically favor liberal Jewish movements. This episode explores one new factor in that complex relationship, an organization and internet database known as the Jewish Pluralism Watch.
