Has the news been getting you down?
I'm Megan McCartle, and I'm here to help.
I'm the host of a news show from Washington Post Opinion,
called Reasonably Optimistic.
And it's an antidote to the pessimism
that's riddling America right now.
Every Wednesday, I'm going to talk to people
who see a path forward.
It does seem to me that there is some awakening
of a desire to act together to solve problems where they are.
No, I am a believer in America, and that's worth fighting for.

Hey, it's the sports junkies.
If anybody knows about die-hard sports fans, it's us.
We get to live and breathe the excitement of the season
all year long, right alongside the most passionate fans out there.

It's exactly why sports radio performs for brands.
That passion, that excitement and engagement,
you don't get that kind of dialed in attention anywhere else.
People who listen to sports on the radio,
will be streaming or on sports podcasts
are nearly three times more likely
to consider a brand that supports their favorite team.
If you're interested in reaching sports fans,
we have the playbook for you.

and they advance.
Now, back to you.
Better you bet with Nick Costos on Westwood One's Sports.
True TV courtesy of the call last night.
Am I going to win the national championship?
No. That's not people from betting it.
Also, no.
John Ewing from Bed MGM is going to join us in just a moment.
We're going to have eight really fast minutes
with John breaking down a bunch of betting information
for the big dance.
But we do have this piece of news I want to get into the show.
Per the Detroit Pistons,
and we told you earlier about Cade Cunningham's collapse long,
expected to be out a, quote,
extended period of time per ESPN,
Sham Sharania.
The Pistons have announced that Cade will be re-evaluated
in two weeks.
So at least two weeks out for Cade,
then a re-evaluation.
Our senses is that Cade will be back for the first game
of the playoffs.
That is a guess.
No confirmation.
There.
Speaking of our show sponsor, Bed MGM.

The aforementioned John Ewing.
John, welcome to the show.
Happy NCAA tournament, my guy.
Let's go.
Can't wait to watch some hoops.
This is the best day of the year.
Let's go rapid fire here.
I want to get a ton of information in the next six or seven minutes.
The most bet team, John, to win the national championship is who and why.
It's actually...
Miami Ohio is the biggest liability at the sports book.
I know we did that little intro.
They won last night.
It was really exciting.
5-0 now as underdogs this season.
That's one.
Maybe the book's not actually too worried about.
It's all chalk.
Michigan Duke, Arizona are the most bet teams to win the NCAA tournament at the sports
book.
Since selection Sunday, Arizona is the most bet team.
We've taken actually more money on them.
But there's still a good outcome on the future market.
Yukon, Florida, St. John's are among the contenders.
The teams we don't want to see make a deep run this year.
Duke and Arizona are favorable for us.
But as I said, we've seen more action on Arizona leading up to tip off here of the round
of 64.
So if they progress expecting more people to bet on them and then they could become a liability
for us.
Who is the most bet team today, John, in the opening slate of games on this Thursday?
It's out of Florida.
They opened six and a half.
It's down to four and a half first, Louisville.
72% of money is on the bulls to cover a lot of that driven by Louisville being
without their star freshmen.
Miguel Brown Jr.
He's averaging 18 points for game second most on the team.
So obviously without one of their leading scores, better to see in some value there.
On the bulls as dogs.
They're not only the most bet team to cover, they're the most bet underdog to win outright.
So South Florida, the answer on Thursday.
John, what about tomorrow?
The most bet team in Friday's NCAA tournament action is who?
It's Kentucky.
It's the first game on the board.
They're small favorites, a blue blood against Santa Clara.
Open two and a half.
It's up to three and a half.
Maybe the better play though in this game is the total.
Open 161.
It's moved down in five tournament games.
Mark Pope's teams have played under his five and oh.
Let's talk about Alabama and Alabama's second leading score.
Holloway.
We don't know if he's going to play in this game, like a pot arrest earlier in the week.
We don't have to get into like the legal ease of this.
How are people though, John Bedding, the Alabama Hofstra game tomorrow as a result,
that tied currently 11 and a half point favorite at bed MGM?
Yeah, I mean, when you again lose one of your top scores, the line is going to move.
So originally, Bama opened 12 and a half.
It was immediately bed up to 14 and a half.
Then the news comes up the arrest and it drops three points right away.
65% of money is on Hofstra to cover.
This is one of those games though where there's so much uncertainty when you just take out one of those key cogs.
For me personally, I'm going to stay away.
All right.
So John staying away from the Alabama Hofstra game.
Let's talk about for the people that want action quickly here, like me.
The first four games here, Ohio State, TCU, Troy Nebraska.
You talked about South Florida, Louisville already.
We don't have to do that again and high point Wisconsin.
And then we have obviously Duke in CN at 250.
How are people betting, John, anything stand out the early wave of games on opening Thursday of the NCAA tournament?
Ohio State TCU is interesting.
There's a really good historical match up here where you're talking about teams that can make or not make their free throws.
We know how important that is in the tournament.
Ohio State 78% from the charity striped top 25 team in the nation.
TCU ranks outside the top 200 in the last 10 years when you have a match up with these types of teams.
The better free 13 covers about 60% of the time.
Ohio State minus two and a half, so small favorite there.
Free throws could be a factor.
Troy, another popular pick in the early slate, open 13 and a half down to 12 and a half.
Troy's coach Scott Cross, 91 and 71 against the spread as an underdog since 2000.
There's nearly a 60% cover and Nebraska started 20 and a finish six and six down the stretch.
So they're not necessarily playing their best ball and offensively they struggled since that first loss.
All right.
I want to hit you with two more here.
Give me like 15 seconds per to close.
North Carolina without its best player, Caleb Wilson, two and a half point favorite against VCU.
How are people betting this game 10 to 15 seconds?
They like VCU as a small underdog here.
Most of the bets are on them to cover and then it's even more a lot cited nearly 80% of money is on VCU plus 120.
And then BYU, Texas, BYU, two and a half point favorite with maybe the number one overall pick in the draft, AJ DeBonza.
Do people like DeBonza and BYU or are they siding with underdog, Texas in 15 seconds?
They like BYU, open one and a half, move the two and a half and yeah, DeBonza, he was an underdog to be the first overall pick.
Now he's a solid favorite.
So they're back in BYU here as a small favor.
John is on Twitter at John Ewing.
