The Toronto Blue Jays face a tight race for their final outfield spot on opening day.

Anthony Santander is out most of the season after shoulder surgery.

The team traded for Jess Sanchez to start in right field, with Dalton Varsho locked in

center.

Left field could go to David Schneider, Nathan Luke's, or Miles Straw, and one will back

up the others.

Donatin Clay's is pushing hard for that ventral.

He's already on the 40 man roster, so no need to add him there.

He joined the Jays and a 2024 trade from the Seattle Mariners, along with Catcher Jacob

Sharp, an exchange for pitcher Yumi Garcia.

Clay's say showed versatility across all three outfield spots in the minors and with

both teams.

That flexibility could be his edge, especially with injuries hitting the group.

Fans and analysts see his multi-position skills as a big plus for depth.

In 2025, he played just 34 Major League games, batting 2, 10 over 2 88, slash 300, with two

home runs, and 9 runs batted in.

He fared better in AAA, hitting 255 over 335, slash 403, with 7 homeers and 21 ribbies.

With players away for the World Baseball Classic, Clay say gets extra spring at bats to prove

his bat and glove.

If he heats up, he could snag the spot and skip a trip back to the minors.
