Are you all tucked in, cozy and comfortable? I sure hope so, because today, we're gonna look at a super fun story. It's a story explainer all about what happens when a babysitter comes over for the evening. All right, let's dive right in. Have you ever had a babysitter come to your house when your grownups go out? Oh, it can be so much fun. Look at our silly friend right here. His name is Little Critter. He's sitting on that big squishy green couch right next to his babysitter. Do you see her shiny round glasses and that lovely orange dress with the polka dots? They look like they're getting ready to have just the best time together. But wait, when mom and dad first leave, well, not everyone is happy. Look way down there on the floor. Little Critter's little sister is feeling very sad. She's crying a big loud waw because she misses her mom and dad. But look really closely at Little Critter. He is standing up so tall and being very, very brave. He knows having a babysitter is going to be perfectly okay. And look at how proud mom is.
She's wearing her beautiful red dress and dad has his fancy blue suit on. Before they even walked out the door, mom called Little Critter her big helper for tonight. He has a very important job to do. Oh, and do you see someone else watching? Down by the little wooden table, it's a tiny, quiet mouse. He's going to watch Little Critter be a big helper tonight too. So, Little Critter starts his helpful jobs right away. He uses his strong, strong arms to grab the babysitter's big, heavy green coat. Whoosh, he drags it all the way across the floor to hang it up in the closet for her. Look at how hard he's working. He really is being the best big helper ever. Don't you think? So, tell me, do you like to help the grown-up set your house? Maybe you help them cook yummy food in the kitchen or maybe you help put away your toys. Helping is such a nice thing to do. Well, get ready, because Little Critter is about to help in the kitchen and things are gonna get a little bit silly. Oh my goodness, it's time to make supper.
And Little Critter is showing the babysitter exactly where mom keeps all the shiny pots and pans. But, oops, clash, bang, crash. They are falling absolutely everywhere. Look at Little Critter's big, happy smile, even with a pot right on his sister's head. It is very, very noisy in that kitchen right now. Finally, it's time to eat supper. Now, I'm gonna tell you a funny little secret. The babysitter is looking away, right? And Little Critter has a plate full of little round squishy green peas, but he doesn't wanna eat them. So, shh, look at what he's doing. He is sneaking those green peas right to his fluffy little puppy under the table and the puppy is happily licking the plate. Oh, Little Critter, you are so silly. After supper, it's time to wash the dishes. Little Critter is standing on a little wooden stool to help, but oh no, splash. He filled up the sink with way too much water. Look at all those bubbly soap bubbles floating up in the air
and the water is spilling all over the floor. It looks like a little waterfall right inside the kitchen. What a big, wet mess. Uh oh, a mess? But you know, when we make a mess, we have to clean it up. Little Critter and his babysitter make a great team. Squeak, squeak, swish, swash. The babysitter is using a big mop to wipe up the slippery wet water from the floor. And Little Critter is carrying a very tall stack of clean yellow bowls. Even the tiny mouse is helping out by looking at the bubbles. Since we're talking about getting all wet and soapy, what do you like to play with when you take a bath? Do you have a favorite toy that splashes in the warm water? Maybe a little boat or a cup? Well, Little Critter's sister is about to take her bath and they have some really fun toys. Scrub a dub dub. Look at that bright yellow bathtub. It's completely filled with warm soapy bubbles that go pop, pop, pop. Little Critter is keeping a sister from crying
by playing with a big, bouncy, colorful beach ball. And do you see the little yellow rubber ducky floating on the bubbles? It looks like a super fun, splishy, splashy bath time. Oh dear! The fluffy little puppy decided to join bath time. And now he is out of the tub and he is shaking. Shake, shake, shake. He's shaking cold bath water absolutely everywhere. Oh, the poor babysitter. Her glasses are all wet and her beautiful orange polka dot dress is covered in flying water drops. I think she might need a towel too. After all that wild splashing, it's time to get nice and dry. Look how gentle Little Critter is being. He's helping dry his little sister off with a big, soft yellow towel. And right there on the floor are her pink pajamas. Putting on clean, soft, warm pajamas after a bath is just one of the best, most cozy feelings in the whole world, isn't it? But wait, they aren't quite ready for sleep yet. Poof! They are having a giant pillow fight.
Look at all those soft white feathers flying through the air. It looks just like it's snowing right inside the bedroom. Little Critter and his sister have these huge smiles on their faces. They are laughing and jumping and having the absolute best time playing with their babysitter. Now the work is over and it's time for a yummy snack. They're making popcorn. But look at the machine. It is going completely wild. Pop, pop, pop. Hot, buttery popcorn is shooting up into the air like tiny yellow fireworks. It's bouncing on the floor, on the counter, just everywhere. The tiny mouse is trying to catch some in a glass and Little Critter is just smiling and holding a big jar of juice. Now it's time to sit down and play a quiet game. Click, click. They're moving the little round pieces on the checkerboard. And Little Critter is being very, very nice to his babysitter. He even lets her win sometimes. Look at the tally sheet on the floor. The babysitter is actually winning. It's very kind to share and play nicely with our friends.
Next up, it's movie time. They're eating that yummy, crunchy popcorn right out of the big bowl. And what are they watching on the TV? It's a funny, silly monster movie. Rawr. Look at the green monster on the screen with his big teeth. Little Critter's sister is hiding behind the couch but Little Critter is lying on his tummy, completely amazed by the silly monster. Now the fun is done and it's time to get ready for bed. There are three easy, cozy steps we take. Number one, put on those soft pajamas. Number two, read a wonderful story. And number three, close your eyes and go to sleep. Let's see if Little Critter follows these steps. Oh, look at his face here. Y'all. Little Critter is making a very big yawn. His eyes are getting so heavy. They look like they just want to close all by themselves. The babysitter said it is time for bed and he's listening perfectly. The TV even shows a sleepy moon. The day is almost over. Step two, the story.
They're all sitting close together on the comfy green couch again. The babysitter is holding a thick red book that says long story right on the cover. I wonder what it's about. She's using a soft soothing voice to read to them. One's upon a time. Little Critter and his sister are very quiet and very good, listening to every single word as they get sleepier and sleepier. Shhh. Mom and her red dress and dad and his blue suit are finally home. But what do they see? Little Critter, his sister, and even the babysitter are all fast asleep. They had such a wonderful, fun, busy night full of playing and helping that they just couldn't stay awake anymore. Everyone is resting so peacefully. Which brings us to the end of our story today. We have exactly one very sleepy little critter. We learned that having a babysitter over means getting to be a big helper, having silly adventures and following our bedtime routine perfectly.
So little friends, after all that fun, are you feeling ready for a cozy sleep too? I hope you remember to be a great big helper tomorrow. Sweet dreams and see you next time.
