Ken Rosenthal, so Ken.
Wow, that's a great view.
Set the scene of where you're at and what to expect this weekend.
I love that.
I'm at Oracle Park and I'm getting ready for the second game at the Yankees Giant Series.
I've got the Fox game tomorrow, so I'm talking to people getting ready for that.
And it is an amazingly beautiful day here in the Bay Area.
It's like, I don't know, 80 degrees, maybe.
And it's just unusually warm for this time of year and people are loving it.
Wait until the game, Ken.
Yeah.
Wait until the game.
Make sure you have your sweater on because people haven't been to San Francisco.
It's hot and BP and you come out and you're like, holy crap.
Yankees came out hot.
Are the giants going to be able to come out hot and game two, just like the weather changes?
Well, I don't know.
They're facing Camp Slitler.
And this guy we saw him in the playoffs last year.
We saw him down the stretch of the Yankees really the whole year.
He is special.
And Yankees, you're expecting big things from him.
I don't know if the giants are going to handle him today.
Robbie raised going for the giants.
Obviously, it's baseball.
I think it can happen.
We've seen a lot of great features already.
Yet kind of beating around a little bit.
So who knows?
Hey, Ken, question for you while you're out in San Francisco.
The giants had this dynasty run, right?
Where they won three titles in five years.
What's the viewpoint right now from San Francisco?
Over two LA.
It's one team we haven't gotten to today.
Of course, they had like all the pop and circumstance.
We'll feral driving around.
Freddie Freeman and Miguel Rojas and they win eight, too.
So I don't know.
What would you use?
Is there jealousy?
Is there envy?
Or they're like, hey, they're having their run.
We had ours not too long ago.
I don't know if they've worried so much about the Dodgers as they are at themselves.
Scott.
And they should be worried about themselves.
They've had four straight years where they've been right.
Around five hundred.
Maybe two games over one game under three under whatever.
It's been that kind of meeting ochre stretch for them.
And what they're trying to do is get back to what we were talking about.
The three titles in five years.
12.
I'm sorry, 2010, 12, 14.
Hard to do.
Hard to do when you've got a behemoths like the Dodgers in your division.
But at the same time.
They just need to get themselves straight.
They've got a new manager.
We all know that.
Tony.
They brought in a number of players as well over the last 12 months starting with Devers.
We'll see how it plays out.
But they are.
Just trying to be an above average team again.
That's what they have not been some time, frankly.
The one thing I will give them credit.
There's a lot more star power names that that you know, right?
With the Giants.
They've done a nice job of that.
While we stay in the division, we haven't gotten to this on the show either.
And wanted to get your take since you were part of the article in the athletic.
Where are we at with the potential Padre sale?
Looks like they're going to sell for a healthy number.
Very healthy number.
And the report that we had the other day, Dennis Lynn and I was that.
They are looking possibly at 3.5 billion.
It's a billion over the previous region, which is for the New York mess.
This is the San Diego Padres.
Now might ask, well, why is this happening?
Why this to ban suddenly for the Padres?
Couple of things.
One and many most of all.
There are four groups here.
Most of them have California roots in some fashion or another.
And you're not seeing the California teams come up for sale.
So that's a rare thing.
And obviously, California is a desirable place.
San Diego is a desirable market with a beautiful ballpark.
But the Padres also have their credit for putting themselves in this position.
Where they are not really a small market team in terms of.
At least their attendance revenue anymore.
TVs of this story.
It's a problem all its own.
But by the late Peter side, they're spending all the money that he did.
And committing to the players that he did.
It is transformed the franchise.
It is elevated them now.
You might ask, well, why can't other small market teams do this?
And that's a fair question.
But MLB people will say Cleveland, their owner, Cincinnati, their owner, Pittsburgh, etc.
Those guys do not have the money that Peter sideler did.
They can't operate like that.
That might be true.
But it also might be true that many days won't meet some new owners.
And Cleveland's getting one.
Even going to have David Blitzer there at some point soon.
And it's a real interesting question to Scott as we get into the CBA year.
The labor year right now.
And what's this deal goes down?
Don't say the numbers 3.2 or 3.0.
Whatever number it's going to be.
It's going to be about three.
It looks like.
Then.
I'm sure people in the union side will say, well, look, this demonstrates how healthy the sport is.
Team selling for three million in that market.
Come on.
And then I'm sure owners will say it doesn't solve any of the competitive issues.
This is a unique outlier type of situation.
And there will be the usual disagreement as well.
It seems to be between these parties.
Yes, as usual, that'll be interesting.
Like you said, I want to talk about the rookies first game of the year for some of these guys.
What's one guy that stood out to you where you could see this trickle effect that him taking off and being that rookie of the year?
McGonagall for sure.
Todd and weather hole folks.
Now it's one game.
I don't have to tell you guys it's just one game.
But.
McGonagall hit all spring.
What he does is hit.
Goes four for five years today.
First picks double right off the bat was mainly debut.
It's kid.
I have said this and I believe it if he is what we saw or sunset similarly of what we've seen.
That's a different team all of a sudden and to team with a more dynamic offense.
And when you put that together with your pitching.
I've got Valdez going today.
It's a pretty impressive meeting in a world series type.
But whether all the sports in a different situation with a home run your face.
The Cardinals are rebuilding.
And he's getting the chance with them.
And for that reason alone, I kind of like is looking at their chances because they're going to play.
And we'll see how it turns out.
There are a number of tremendous rookies this year.
Especially I would say in the nationally.
And we haven't even seen kind of gripping yet.
He's going to start the we're in triple A.
So it's a really exciting time to support seeing these guys come to you.
Just believe right now.
So we're going to hit your 12 your 12s intriguing storylines.
Which of those 12 do you feel like are your favorite?
You have to choose a favor, but which of the 12 do you feel like?
Super see the other ones.
I mean, that's a good question.
I would say the labor one that I wrote was my favorite only because.
It pointed out something that we've come to.
Simply not expect anymore.
That's the possibility of a CBA happening.
During the season or shortly thereafter.
Before the expiration of the agreement.
And what I refer back to was my first year in pops.
2006.
And that year.
I got a call from one of our executives during the world series.
And he said get ready.
There's an announcement imminent.
And we're going to have a CBA announced tonight.
You're going to have to interview the commissioner but see a link.
And editing in down here on the field.
So that did come the past.
It was like October 24th.
And my goodness.
We don't expect anything like that this year.
And then for this already said.
He used the lockout as a strategic pool negotiations.
So I was just pointing out in that that.
It doesn't have to do this right.
Even though we all expected to be this way.
We're crime for it to be this way.
Which will be the least likely to be repeated if it happens this year.
The Dodgers three Pete or the Derek scubal three Pete.
Or two of your other intriguing storylines from the article.
I would say both unlikely.
But I would go with scubal actually.
And I know everybody thinks oh my gosh.
The Dodgers are going to win.
And when every year they don't win every year.
This is the real simply recent phenomenon.
And scubal as we saw again yesterday.
Remains one of the dominant pitchers in the sports.
And a third straight side young should be within his reach now.
Garrett crochet is going to be right there with him again.
So I'm going to try and see someone else emerge.
But I kind of like scubal's chances been that I like the Dodgers.
Because in the playoffs.
I know it hasn't happened in the last two years.
But it can't close to happening in the playoffs.
And you can get upset.
Things can happen.
You can get beat.
Yeah, it was very close.
If you look at that Blue J series and how close they were to winning multiple times.
Ken, thank you.
Enjoy it out there at the beautiful day.
And then stay warm at night and have a great weekend.
We'll look forward to you on Fox on Saturday.
Thanks guys.

Adding rumors, you got to love when the first game of the season goes down.
And all of a sudden you see a rumor pop up from a trade proposal last year during the trade deadline.
So the Yankees got word that Paul Skins might be interested in joining their party when he's a free agent.
So they were like, let's try to make this an earlier or a deal.
They apparently called the pirates, John Hammond of the Post said,
and were willing to throw their top four prospects their way or four of their top prospects.
We didn't get the exact names, but if you look at some of the top prospects on their list at the time,
George Lombard Jr., who could be the shortstop of the future for the Yang Spencer Jones,
who's been talked about a ton. He's Aaron Judge-Size and is using with potential if he limits the swing and miss.
Carlos Lagrange, or however you say a Todd Father, I'll learn it once he gets to the show,
but he stole the show.
But he stole the show.
Lagrange, he stole the show and spring training.
He looks like a dominant, dominant arm that's coming soon for the Yankees.
Cam Schlitler was also on that list at the time.
So it could have been quite a pretty package for the pirates, but they didn't even listen.
They didn't even want to hear Todd Father what the Yankees had to say because of how damn good Paul Skins is
and what he means to the franchise.
I love the timing.
How this comes out, you know, right on opening day, Skins gets lit up a little bit,
only partially his fault.
It's not hard contact and some miscus in the outfield by O'Neal Cruz.
But your thoughts on the Yankees giving it into the good old college try to get the best pitcher in the National League?
You guys know me very well when it comes to trades.
I love a guy that's been established.
I love a guy even though it's been what a cup of tea as they like to say a cup of coffee for him.
He's the top pitcher, one of the top pitchers in baseball, one maybe two.
This guy is incredible.
I would get rid of all the prospects for a guy like this.
You know how I am.
I would do that in a heartbeat.
I think it's a great try.
I think it is.
Ultimately it didn't work out, but I like that they're trying.
I do.
I do.
Let a guy like George Lombard Jr., if he was one of them to go prosper with another team.
I don't know.
I would have thrown in another prospect to get him if you want the truth.
So for me, the fact that they didn't want to even hear it, that doesn't sit well with me
because you always want to hear somebody out.
But again, prospects.
They're prospects for a reason for now.
Trade them all and get a superstar in pole schemes.
Throw somebody else in there.
I love everything about that.
Yeah.
I think the pirates could get to a point, crafts where they do have to trade schemes.
Not yet.
It's too soon.
Yeah.
Will.
You think.
I tend to agree because I think what'll happen is what you think they're not going to trade them?
No, no, no.
I do.
I think they will trade him.
But I don't think they're going to trade him until maximum two years away from free agency.
Totally.
Yes.
Even more likely, probably a year away from free agency because they're going to do everything they
can to throw the bag at him and see if he'll bite at it, right?
And just find out what's the number, right?
I mean, at this point, we're already at the, you think already too late.
We're already at the stage where we're talking on an extension, what?
A number in the force?
It's got to be the biggest contract of all time.
I don't care that you're hitting free agency still a few years from now.
It's big, dude.
It's at least deep into the threes.
It's deep into the threes.
But we've never even gotten into the twos for a contract extension of a PR picture.
So that's what we're talking about.
I can't say it's going to be fours.
And I don't think he accepts anything less than a four.
Like to me, this isn't necessarily a discussion about Paul Schien's future extension worth.
It's about the fact that can the pirates afford what he's going to get in arbitration?
He's going to break records each three years that he's going to be there.
So to me, the pirates have this year and next year.
I think they'd be willing to probably pay him whatever the max a picture has ever gotten.
And then add six million to it for his first year of arbitration.
Like it's just, it's going to be a crazy, crazy discussion.
And so to say you would get four prospects back from it.
One of those four guys is in the big leagues this year.
I don't care where you think Spencer Jones or Lagranghe or, or, you know, Lombard Jr. is going to be.
Like there's one dude that's in the big leagues right now.
Like that's, and you're giving up a, it's a great move by the, by the Yankees.
I heard Charlie manual.
I've said it before on the show when Giancarlo Stanton first got called up to the big leagues.
A reporter because Charlie manual loves homers.
He go, they reporter goes, hey, who would you trade for?
Giancarlo Stanton.
He goes, what?
Well, I would trade, I would trade Roy Holiday.
I would trade clip Lee, too.
Like who else do they want?
Like I want Paul Schien's is that guy.
You give up the farm because all of a sudden you're winning game one of every, every playoff series.
Or game two of Cole Hamilton's bitches game one.
I mean, Cole Hamilton's.
Derek Cole.
Derek Cole, which is game one.
And, and think of that.
Just think of that.
Schien's.
Cole.
Freed.
Rodon.
Um, I'm missing one.
Louis.
Who else?
Yeah.
And then you have heel on the back bar and if you made it up.
Game over.
You need.

And listen, to kind of button this up, remember when Shohei Otani was the dude for the angels
while they didn't trade, they could have got 20 prospects for this dude.
Angels messed up.
Pirates better not mess this one up.
Yep, I'm with you guys.
I just think it's too soon.
So I think them hanging up the phone now is okay.
Them hanging up the phone when he's two years out of free agency.
And if he has not agreed to anything yet, at that point, it's not okay.
And I think no matter what happens, even if the pirates have a better year this year
and eventually Conor Griffin comes up and he shines,
there is a trust issue.
There's going to be a trust issue based on the past 10 years.
It's not how they've treated Paul.
They're treating him great.
It's just how the team has performed and how they've spent their resources over the past 10 years.
And when you look around the league and you're Paul and he's not stupid
and all he cares about is winning.
But he's one of those dog books.
Look at him and the emotion that he had in the World Baseball Classic
versus when he found out he won his first award in the Bigs.
Right?
There is your difference between what he cares about and what is a little lower on the totem pole.
So if you're him, Crats, and you're thinking about your brain long term,
you have to get over the hump even if the numbers big and say,
do I trust this team is going to put winning pieces around me
so I can consistently get that feeling, that adrenaline rush in the postseason with the pirates?
That's the thing he has to think about.
All he has to do is look over to Anaheim and look at Mike Tratt's career
and he's barely touched the playoffs.
You know, the money is going to be close enough, right?
If he takes an extension with the pirates now, it versus waiting
or saying, hey, I'm not going to take something so I'm going to get traded,
chances are you're going to end up with a team that's going to put you in a better position to win on a yearly basis.
Yeah, I don't see any amount of money that is going to be able to line up
where Paul schemes gets his value to stay and not win.
Or the pirates are like, hey, you know what, we're definitely going to do this.
They push the $100 million limit and then it was like, that's it.
100 million. We're good. We're over that.
Donsky.
You know, I just think, I think if there's a chance to win there,
Paul schemes does want to win there. He said it.
And it doesn't matter what he said, like, oh, he'd love to play for the Yankees.
No, all he means is he'd love to win.
If winning is the most important thing, a few million here and there,
you're always going to make more and free agency.
And this dude, that's where he's going to go.
And I don't see him accepting any extension where they both meet up.
Last point here, I want to make sure this is like my point is clear here.
Those four players we mentioned for Paul schemes,
you take it every day of the week.
Todd Father, there were many people online that were trying to go through the accolades
for the prospects and then also what Schlitler has done in his short time in the big leagues.
No, I'm sorry.
No.
If you're on that side of the argument with a few years of schemes too, right?
You want to have an argument like, if they want to trade him at the deadline on his free agent year
and they're asking for this, we can have that conversation.
With many years of control over Paul schemes, top two pitcher in the bigs,
you never get that opportunity.
You take that every damn day of the week.
Is there a line? Sure.
You're not going to empty out your major league club,
but three prospects and a promising pitcher for a top two in the bigs.
And done.
And if I'm the Detroit Tigers,
now that I know I'm calling the Yankees,
hey, I got school below over here.
Let's talk.
Let's talk.
Listen, it's schemes are schoolable.
I don't see why there couldn't be another conversation with them too.
I mean, Tigers are going to be in it.
I think that's that's going to be the difference.
But to me, when the first scheme stuff first came out,
we didn't hear about this stuff,
but I talked to a scout of a team that wanted schemes,
which is just any team that is in the playoffs.
Every team would want schemes so that we can put that to rest.
It's not just the Yankees.
He said it's not hard for a team that wants schemes.
Like, that's a no-brainer.
It's because if he gets hurt or something like that happens,
like, you can't control that kind of stuff.
It's the, it's the pirates coming back.
You can't miss.
You can't miss on that.
Because look at what happened,
look at what happened with the Nats.
The Nats got rid of Wonsoda with two plus years to go,
because he wouldn't sign, he wouldn't sign the extension for $415 million.
And they got back Mackenzie Gore from the Padres,
CJ Abrams, James Wood, and Haslin too.
So dudes that are all in the big leagues,
one guy is still in the minor leagues.
And now the Nats haven't won at all from, at all from that.
They got three prominent big leaders on their team.
And now they flipped Mackenzie Gore over.
So you can't miss it because you're not just getting players
for that player.
You're getting players to make your organization better
so that you can ultimately win.
So the pressure is on the team that's getting all the prospects back.
You can't screw that up so it's way more work for them.

You know how it's never really about where you're going?
It's about who you're going with.
The right people can turn any drive into a great memory.
That's something Toyota really believes.
They design vehicles around real life and real people.
The ones who make plans happen and bring everyone together.
Inside, everything's built with passengers in mind.
Comfortable seating, smart layouts, and space that actually works,
so everyone can relax and enjoy the ride.
There's room for the people, room for the stuff,
and room for the moments that happen along the way.
Because when people are the destination, your ride is important.
