Well last night in San Jose the St. Louis Blues did something they hadn't done all season long
They won three consecutive games and it's all happened post Olympic break as a matter of fact
They won four of five and the St. Louis Blues goal tending has held the opposition to two or fewer goals against
In four consecutive games for the first time all season long
So it's clicking a little bit for the St. Louis Blues
But that was not the big news yesterday the big news of course was the NHL trade deadline and a blues trading their captain
Brayden Shen to the New York Islanders a trade of veteran defenseman Justin Falk to the Detroit Red Wings in return
They get a couple of prospects. They get two first round picks. They get two third round picks
But the St. Louis Blues have definitely turned the page and his dog arm strong described it moved into a new era of
St. Louis Blues hockey and that era started off really well Robert Thomas two goals and an assist couple of
Assist in the game for Dylan Holloway Jimmy snuggler with his eighth career multi-point game and a great performance by Jordan Vittington
Stopping 23 of 25 shots and a blues skated to a three to two over time win over the St. Over these San Jose sharks

Got an interview. I did after the trade deadline with both Braden Shen and Justin fall coming your way in just a moment
But first let's get to the highlights
Follower gets it over the red line
Works that one in as he gets checked in doing a nice check by Zach will stop Chuck and on the far side
Pinching in was Tyler Tucker. He gets held up, but Follower makes the place snuggarooed scar
He'll shoot from anywhere in in any way
And he puts the blues on top one nothing 11th of the year for Jimmy snuggarooed
Into the slot. Oh, what a pass through it goes. They miss an open net to fully
Back in celebrating
There he is drives the middle. They don't get it through and out of the far point
We go back and even strength five on five sharks do it possession shoot at score
Celebrating
Score is first in the NHL against the blues. He ties in one one here with a second period goal against the blues
By 29 to play that's an even straight goal Robert Thomas who's had two 80 point seasons
They go they get it. They shoot it and scar it Robert Thomas
Coming right out of the corner with it and a four game goal streak for him is Robert Thomas put some blues back on top two to one
Sharks near wing
And under the corner scar
To two six thirty four to go
Two seconds to go we've got over time
Tonight in San Jose or 12 to go in over time robert shoots post-score
Office skated in
Robert Thomas was tied up right in front of the blues
Three to two winners in over time bring out the zamboni
A winning road trip so far
After the game with some reaction from the locker room. Here's Jordan Deacon with the locker room report
All right curbs. Let's kick off this locker room report hearing from a blues forward that had a goal and an assist last night
This is Jimmy snuggler road feels good. I mean, it's between the tough day. It was today and the three wins
I think
It aligns our team brings energy to the room and you know, obviously it's the first time it's happened the season sports excited
Yeah, no, I think we always just started with a little bit this year, but
It's nice to you know get those wins. Oh, yeah, I mean
I think they just kind of shows the team team that we have in here
Determine to beat anyone and play off teams or not. I think we just come to the rink and try to shoot
Yeah, I mean, it's tough honestly. I'm a new shatter in flak for no a year and
Two of the nicest guys
Shatter is the best leader I've ever had on the ice
Off the ice is such a great person so inviting so welcoming same with flak
You know, it's tough. It's tough to lose guys like that
Especially when you care so much for them and you only knew them, you know, for so long
But we give all the best look to to shenner and and then flak and what they have in the future
And it's there's a lot to choose from
From off the ice, you know how to handle yourself and the NHL and what it takes to to be a good human being
You know, as a player he understands it and he gets it
You know, he's been through it all and you know on the ice
Basically, you know a lot of things offensive zone to defensive zone and I mean
He's just he's just such a
It's a reliable player and he's also such a reliable person someone you can lean on and you know
He's all of our role models on this team for the young guys. I think all the guys can say that
You just such a great person and it sucks to lose them
Yeah, I think you know, we have a lot of younger guys on this team now and the opportunity to step up
You know, just bringing the energy as much as we possibly can every single night and um, I felt like you know
We executed that tonight, but you know, so 20 games left that we have to do that and um, you know
The opportunities are there, but losing guys like that. It's it's never fun. Yeah, let's try to put the puck on the net
Was really aiming kind of one-five hole and shoot it
Plenty goes in once again. That was blues forward Jimmy snuggaroo
Let's wrap up this locker room report hearing from another forward that war in a last night
This is Jake neighbors. Yeah, it's um, it was a really hard morning
You know, that's a position we put ourselves in though and that's the business and that's how things grow sometimes, but
You know, I just want to thank shenner and falker for what they did for this team what they did for me and a lot of guys in this locker room
They you know laid out the foundation of what it means to be a blues since I've been here for sure and
You know put their best foot forward every day for
For this organization and the guys in the locker room. So um, you know, we're gonna miss them wishing best the luck and you know
Obviously, it was a really hard morning though. Yeah, that's the thing, you know
I knew I wasn't gonna play with them forever, but um, you know, I didn't know
Didn't want it to go like this. I guess if I could have a fantasy ending to it, but um
Yeah, just really grateful for my time with them. It was a really emotional morning saying a bidoam
Some of them always keep in touch with and
That I'm forever grateful for for everything he's done for me and you know
I told them earlier today. I wouldn't be where I am as a person or a player without him. So
Yeah, I'm gonna miss him. I think just compete
You know even in moments where we don't have our best stuff and you know teams are taking it to us
We we've been we we're not breaking in the last few I feel like and
You know guys are digging in when need we needed and playing hard defense or managing the puck at the right times or
You know wherever whatever the situation calls for so um, I think guys have
I've been mature and um managing the game well and like I said just
You know not to get too high too low just sticking with it throughout 60 minutes
Yeah, for sure. I've tried to be a leader ever since I've got here and as you get older you
You know try to take on more of a leadership role as you get more and more comfortable
So that's something I've always tried to
To be um active and I guess is is a leadership and obviously losing two
Main voices in your locker room. Guys are gonna have to step up and um, you know, I thought
Just because me and Brobie were wearing letters say there was a lot of other guys in the locker room that stepped up and said things
And had voices in the room and and stepped up with their play as well. So
Obviously example holly and that first shift. So um guys responded really well to a sad morning and
I mean, that's a credit to the guys in here once again. That was blues forward Jake neighbors following his teams three to two overtime victory over the San Jose Sharks last night
Let's get you back to curves time to hear from the head coach of your saying Lewis blues Jim Montgomery. I thought it was a good effort
You know
I really liked
Thomas line played really well our five D men were really good. Been her was sensational
You know, and we found a way to win again
It's two games in a row where they're tough days for a group and you know, we won both of them. So it's good job
I think it's no, I think it's a little bit of both. I think he's really healthy
I think he's playing determined hockey. He's winning a lot of one-on-one battles and when he has the puck and
He doesn't need time in space to make plays
Yeah, I mean, it's it's hard
You know it is captain and assistant so that people the ones won a cup and you know one didn't a lot of good things here
For the saying those blues, but we got to move on you know, that's the direction we're going in and I like to wear our group
That's here and now responding guy. I think that's pretty easy. You know talking with
Alexander Steen and Doug Armstrong
We felt that those are the two guys
They're not the only guys, but there's two guys that we wanted to give them to right now with the seasons
They're having in the type of people there. All right. We're going to get to the post-scheme reaction with Jova Talley here in a moment
Stay tuned after that. We'll bring you the interviews I did with Braden Shen and Justin Falk shortly after they had been traded earlier
The afternoon on Friday afternoon
But we start with where the blues are at with a terrific performance tonight and winning three games in a row for the first time this season
That's where we start with Jova Talley. Wow. I mean absolutely
While the team in the St. Louis Blues that they only had the 13 shots on goal that matched their season low
Of the year you got to go back to that
Just onslaught of the Colorado avalanche on New Year's Eve where the blues just got blown out in Colorado
That was the last game that they had 13 shots, which was their low
So they matched it here tonight right before the 14 shot by Philip Brober gets at the cage with Robert Thomas getting the game winner
So there wasn't a ton of offense
There was a ton of emotion over the last couple days especially this morning
You know coming to the ranked this evening
You know seeing your captain not in the locker and seeing veteran defenseman
Justin Falk who's been around for seven years not getting dressed by the way both veteran players
That have made and played in every game up to this point in the season
It had to have felt weird, you know
But I love the way St. Louis came out they kept a very simple game plan again
Not a ton of offense, but the chances that they had they took advantage on the Delpavitch
Of course with Jimmy Snuggard getting things rocking and rolling early Robert Thomas had himself a day
Jimmy Snuggard with Dylan Holloway and Robert Thomas clearly the best line on the ice
They were the difference maker in the overtime
But an emotional day it led to simple hockey not sexy hockey curves
But it's two point hockey and like you mentioned who would have thought three games in a row now for this blues team coming out of the Olympic break
Especially missing a couple of your big leadership pieces. Yeah, that's four wins in five games now
And that also leaves Cam Fowler and Pablo Bucinay which is the only two blues that have now played in all 62
Games of the season 20 games to go here in the regular season now
They're in one flipside of that is picking up these wins
There's some teams drop them below and then in a standings when you look at the draft pick thing
But that will be something to watch as we continue here
We heard from Doug Armstrong. We talked to him Joe. You look at the trade deadline all in all and the St. Louis Blues
Clearly have now
Started a new era of St. Louis Blues hockey is was said by Doug Armstrong
You do have some pieces of that championship team left
But it is now a younger team. It's turned over for the other new guys
Yeah, it has, you know, and I think that the biggest turnover happened, you know
A few years ago when you lost Teresinko and O'Reilly in barbersheaven, Mika Law and Noel Chari
That was a big one to me
This is that kind of final nail
This is the one that
It's really over and now you look to this next leadership group to fully
Understand and absorb what is being asked of them to take this team to new heights as far as the direction of where this franchise wants to go
You know because you know with Bradenschen here
I think the players like Thomas and Kyram Buchnevich they always felt like they were just still a little bit in that shadow
And rightfully so with Justin Falk a veteran defense from the back and you know could Logan
May you officially really spread his wings when you're always kind of that third fiddle to Colton Prick
Oh, and Justin Falk, you know, I don't know
So with all that being said I think the two big moves today with Falk and Shen
The veteran players, you know mid late thirties, you know
Not a ton of hockey left for them. Yes, they're great leadership pieces
Yes, they're great people to have around
But far as the future of this franchise Doug Armstrong put his foot in the ground and just said
It's gonna be Thomas. It's gonna be Kyram. It's gonna be Buchnevich
It's gonna be these types of guys that's gonna get the job done. I'll throw Joe Holfer in there
You know, of course Tyler Tucker as well Jimmy Snuggaroo, Dallabor Tvorski
And I would expect at some point time we'll wait and see
You know, but I would expect at some point time as Doug it to add to that list
Uh uh an auto Stenberg and maybe even a Thea Linstee
It's very very possible. I expect to see auto Stenberg no doubt about it
We haven't seen Linstee yet this year would be really fun to see some of the younger guys get called back up
Because auto Stenberg if you remember before he got sent back down before the Olympic break
He was one of the really bright spots of this team offensively
His game was growing each and every single day to get those guys up here to get the reps
You understand the situation you understand where you're at in the stand
You understand that this is a very very big far shot
But you want to get games you want to get experience every time you can play a game
There's something to learn you have something to learn every time you step on the ice and you compete in the game
A hockey and I think that that's now the direction of where they're going to go
Where do they take it? That's up to Robert Thomas
That's up to Jimmy Snuggler. It's up to Dala Bordavorski in Cairo in Boots, Naviches
And one day auto Stenberg, you know
There's really no way to tell curves
But it is very clear the direction that Doug Armstrong wants to go in
And he made the two moves today to really solidify that
And and just sticking with that theme a little bit here
As you mentioned, you know with like there is no more braid and shen
There is no more Justin fuck. There is no more Ryan O'Reilly
From a forward standpoint
This is Robert Thomas's group now
And yep, no doubt Cairo, Boots, Navich
They're part of that triumvirate that were given the contracts to extend them
Into that era
But when it comes to driving the bus and what they need to see
You see your top line centers across the NHL doing it
We I think of just completely the door was open
But it is now wide open and off the hinges for Robert Thomas to see if
If that's his path
Well and look what he's done in the last few games
I mean another multi point game in this one
He gets the game winner and over time
Easy difference maker
I mean this is when it go back to the conversation
I have braid and shen four days ago
When we were talking about Robert Thomas
Specifically when there was noise around
Maybe him getting dealt at the deadline
And it was the captain the former captain here in St. Louis
If it said to me
He goes there aren't a lot of players like Robert Thomas
The National Hockey League
There's just not
So if you were to move on from someone like him
Good luck finding someone soon
Who can replace that type of talent
And that big of a difference maker
In curves again it's a difference maker
It's a multi point game
You know his play role in every school
Every single goal
I mean his his probably his biggest
Biggest goal of the game
Honestly they really kind of helped the blues kind of
Repel themselves
Was that one he scored in that third period
To kind of put themselves ahead once again
So all that being said curves
This is a young player
I still consider him young
And youthful I know he's mid 20s
And entering that cost of his prime
He's really heading into that
But I consider him young in the sense
Of of him in a maturity way
Because he's always kind of been
That alternate captain that assistant
That supplemental leadership piece
Now to me it's the growth of where does he take this thing
You know this is your group
And I think a lot of times for the young players there
And young guys that really haven't been given the opportunity
You don't know until you're fully given the gift of it
So this is the plan
This is what they're going to do
I think there's a ton of grooming process
That's in the making for Robert
I think the the mentorship
Not only from Alexander Steen
But from other players that are going to be a part of this organization for a while
They're going to groom him into the leader
That they hopefully see one day
Really taking this franchise to the next step there
And hopefully win another championship
All right Jordan Bennington was good tonight
Oh dynamite
I mean
You first of all I love the decision to go at Jordan
With an emotional day like this
No morning skate this morning
Very little meetings
I think the gym partner thought
You know we need a gamer back there
We need a guy that can understand what this is
What this pressure is
What the emotions are
And he was just so steady
You know this is a player
Whether they were just rumors or not
I think that he was certainly
Looking to be shopped around a little bit
You know teams like Carolina and Vegas
Even Detroit to some degree
Teams that know that gold tending is prohibiting them
Maybe from taking that step
Him and Sergey Buprovsky were the two biggest ones out there
Again nothing gets done
Which is great
And I think that the emotions are real for him
But the way he just came right in there
After no morning skate
And was just springy athletic
Commanded the puck
He led this group here tonight
He made some very big saves early on
Remember this is a blues team
They'd only got one shot on goal
And that third period where they were
Really holding on for dear life to the very end
So not only did he get the one
Because they pushed it over time
But Jordan Bennington deserve a ton of credit
For the extra point here tonight
All right Joe
Thank you very much
Before we wrap it up
We want to bring you some immediate reaction
From both Brady and Shen and Justin Falk
Right after the trade deadline
In a hotel lobby
I was able to catch up with
Blues captain
Well now Blues former captain
Brady and Shen to talk about the trade
And his time in St. Louis
And get some immediate reaction from him
And here's that chat with Brady and Shen
So I've written the news of today
These deadlines are always kind of tough
But there's opportunity on the other side
As kind of the captain of the St. Louis
Blues in such a long time
With this team
What are some of your initial thoughts
From a hockey perspective
Going into a great opportunity
Great team
A team that's
Trying to stay competitive
Obviously Blues are
Going in a different direction
Which they kind of word me on
And
But as far as I talk with
The human aspect of it
It's tough
It's as you get older
You have family and kids
It's not easy
But at the end of the day
I'm looking forward to
A new chapter new opportunity
And it's the business
And we know what we sign up for
But St. Louis has been unbelievable for me
Go back to
When you got traded to the St. Louis Blues
In your first days with the St. Louis Blues
And then now
What has all that meant to you?
Initial thoughts
Didn't know anyone in St. Louis
Other than
Jaden Schwartz
And a little bit of Petra at the time
Going in there
You know you feel your way out
But I know with one thing
With the St. Louis
Team organization
People around the city
You know the way they treated me
And my family
It's been
You know just incredible
It's an incredible place to live
Incredible people
You know it's definitely holds a special place in our heart
And you know we love it
And that kind of sums it up
Of just how well the people treat you there
And how well you liked our as an athlete
And how much they're in your corner
What do you mean we're in that sea?
Ah it's extreme honor
Extreme honor
If you look on the wall every day
Of the guys that are warm before me
You feel like you're in a position to
You know carry it on to the next guy
You know I've had tremendous
Support around me
Guys that have leaned on
And helped me
You know become a captain of the St. Louis Blues
And you know it's a special group that
You know I played in for
You know parts of 9 or 10 years
And like I said it's
It's something that
It's a crazy feeling right now
You don't even really know what to think
Just because I've been there so long
But at the end of the day
You're currently short
And you have to keep on grounding and working
And I'm excited about new team
And apparently the Shen boys are still in demand
That's what it looks like
Put it this way between me and Luke
There must have been 45 phone calls between
You know 11 p.m. last night
Tell you know 10 a.m. this morning
Just lots of back and forth
He's obviously going through with his family right now
And
You know decisions to make
And not easy ones as you get older kids
And you know I got some kind in the same boat
But like I said
It's
You know St. Louis is an unbelievable place to play
It's special
You know they're building for the future
They've got a ton of good pieces that
You know hopefully one day
St. Louis can see another standing cup
And you know
Get back in the 2019 conversations
And like I said they have a lot of good players
But also people in that room that can get them there
What would you like the fans to know
About what they meant to you over these years
I mean
Where you start really
You know I just think
St. Louis is built on a sense of community
People that take care of one another
And
What I like to know is
Players feel it you know they feel that
How you know how much the
Their support means to the players
You know going to the enterprise every night
I've played in places where you get booed a little bit as a home team
And you don't get that St. Louis
They want their team to come out and work
And show that
They're doing it when a hockey game
And the city and the people of St. Louis are truly special
Well from the fans and everybody else
It's been special thank you very much
Well thanks and you know
Gonna miss St. Louis but at the same time
There's always a new opportunity
And the Blues are a special organization
And will always be a champion for you
Yeah that's
You know that's the cherry on top
That's that's what you're going for
That's what you work for as an athlete
You know the sense of winning a standing cup
Is what
You always work towards and once you get that feeling you just want to do it again
So um
You know that's what you drive for and and strive for as an athlete
And in a position now to be on a competitive team and
And you know looking forward to the opportunity
That's New York Islander now Braden Shen
Also we're able to catch up with Justin Falk
Now at E-Trade Redwing
He talks about his time in St. Louis especially his family growing there
Here's Justin Falk
All right Justin so the
You head to Detroit now
You know first off we just want to talk to you a little bit about that time in St. Louis
Seven years of what was it like wearing that blue note
It was awesome from day one I remember walking to the rank
For preseason game and the building was packed and the fans had a ton of energy
And
Obviously it was just right after an exciting time for the organization
But I was very very happy to to be joining the Blues at that time
And
Um to be honest I
I've thoroughly enjoyed my time there
My my kids were all born in St. Louis
It's definitely a home to us and we love every part of St. Louis
What do you know about St. Louis now as a hockey market that maybe you
Didn't before that trade from Carolina
Well, it's you play one game a year on the road
When I was in the east right so I never really got to experience it too much and
I knew it was a good good Midwest town there
Blue collar and and whatnot and you hear about the sports
And how good the fans are for the the athletes and the teams and the sports and whatnot
But it doesn't ever compare until you get to actually live it and and be on that side of it as a player and the fans were awesome
I think they treat the players well. They're very respectful, but they're very passionate and
You can't fake that you can't hide that and it comes through and I got to fully realize it once I was there
It's the second trade of your career. What are these like?
They're a little different. It's
It's sometimes today there's anticipation because it's a deadline day and
Sometimes you know and sometimes you know and so it's
It's a situation that's not always the best part of professional sports
Especially with with where today means for the blues and the position we put ourselves in that the guys
Are going out the door not really coming in the door. So
something we're not too proud of ourselves and
And
Lucky enough is as a player that
Sometimes you get stealth though. It's an opportunity to go play somewhere else and
um
And have a chance at at the playoffs and
And the ultimate goal when I say on the cup and
Fortunately enough that that situation I will get to go to and rejoin any rejoin a teammate and a David Peron
Those are exciting things that can happen through this, isn't it? Yeah, it'll be fun to play with deep fee again
One of my one of my favorite teammates. He's a great guy. I think
He's welcomed in every dressing room. So that'll be a
Stephanie probably the first text I got and
Knowing him that'll be coming a lot more text will be coming through today. So that'll be fun to catch up with them
What
What is it like to play in front of St. Louis fans?
That's great. It's loud. I completely remember
The atmosphere and all the playoff games and regular season two and like I said earlier that that preseason game, right?
You get that feeling in the preseason and then through the regular season in the playoffs. It's a
It's an awesome building to play in and like I said the fans are so passionate and
Blue collar. They love the physicality. They love the hard work and
The goals sometimes it seems like
Aren't after thought because they they care about the true
Work ethic of the players and it comes through because that's the culture and the kind of the personality of St. Louis
So there you have it the two terrific leaders for the blues now with other teams
Braden Shen, of course, will be back in St. Louis on Tuesday night when the islanders come to St. Louis
There will no doubt be a huge reception for Braden Shen at that game
The blues over the San Jose sharks last night by a score of three to two and over time game winner by Robert Thomas
Philip Broberg by the way playing
Over 30 minutes in that game a new career high for him as the blues only dressed five defenseman because Colton Perico was still unable to go
But the blues get the victory and a three-game win streak. They'll try to make it a four-game win streak Sunday night
Against the Anaheim ducks. Thanks for tuning in to the podcast. Hope you're having a great week and have a great rest of your week
And a terrific start to the week. We'll come your way next on Sunday with no blues face off against the ducks
