But we're talking all Georgia Tech. So we're going to talk Georgia Tech a little bit here today. Turn the attention to the yellow jackets. But also kind of look back and again, what Josh Hoppe had to say about the win over at Furman. What Josh Hoppe believes or expects from his freshman quarterback and practice leading up to his first true road start. We'll look at the scout for Georgia Tech. What Josh Hoppe says about that. And of course, phase on Brandon versus Alberto Mendoza and why phase on Brandon will have the advantage. You look at what Alberto Mendoza did in game number one against Colorado. I mean, it was solid. You look at the numbers and it was very solid. Like if you if you didn't watch the game and you just looked at the numbers, he was 17 to 23, 237 solid. Now no touchdowns, no interceptions. He was sack three times was not a factor on the ground.

3:04I think he had three, I think he ran the ball three times. Actually no, it was just he didn't run the ball at all. It was just sacks. So he had negative 22 yards on the sacks and that was a necessarily his fault. It was a protection in front of him. But I thought in that game against Colorado, you know, in the first half specifically, like they didn't trust him to go down the field. Now he ended up throwing more deep passes in the football game against Colorado than phase on Brandon did against Furman. And we'll hear why Josh Hoppe didn't take more shots against Furman later on the show. But ultimately, like a lot of his throws were in the intermediate to short game. Now he did make some throws later in that football game that I want to condemn, not condemn. I want to acknowledge. I thought they were pretty, pretty good, accurate throws. I think I'll burn them in doses a solid quarterback. It's still not really sure exactly who he is because he hasn't played first couple of years backing up. Highs been tropeing winning quarterback and Fernando Mendoza. You know, that was last year, of course. And, you know, he's on with the Raiders right now, but he's been two years in Indiana.

4:06You know, didn't see a whole lot of playing time. And then now he transfers to Georgia Tech and he is the guy. I do believe that his running abilities a bit underrated. He had a, you know, about 160 yards or so in a backup role for Indiana last year. He had a long run on the ground when they played Purdue and mop up duty. But overall, he is a throw first quarterback as you'd expect. But just a guy that's still kind of raw despite being three years into the system. We'll learn more about our birth though Mendoza's year goes along, but really all Tennessee fans are focused and worried about is the Alberto Mendoza that you know about right now. Because after Saturday, you know, you're likely, unless you see him in the college football playoff, you're not going to see Georgia Tech ever again. You look at the pro football focused numbers and splits for Alberto Mendoza against Colorado. This is deep down the field 20 yards or more. He was one for two, 22 yards, medium to short passing game. He was five for seven for 129 yards.

5:08That's where the bulk of his, the bulk of his day yardage came from the intermediate passing game. The short passing game. He was nine of 11 for 78 yards and he was two of three on passes behind the line of scrimmage. That's what Alberto Mendoza did against Colorado. He brought you down into more, you know, concept reading, if you will, all play action. He dropped back 22.2% off play action in that football game and he was three of six for 47 yards. No play action is where he thrived 14 of 18 for 190 yards. Playing passes one for one for four yards and okay, I lost my thing right there. Here we go. This is the page I want to see right here. He was kept clean on 70.4 of his drop back, drop backs and he was 15 and 19 in those situations. He was under pressure on 29% of his drop backs.

6:10However, when he was under pressure, he was only two of five. He was only two of five for 27 yards. Colorado didn't get much pressure on him, but when they did, he was only two of five. When he was blitzed, he was five for eight for 101 yards. When he was not blitz, he was 12 of 16 for 136 yards. He was blitzed 37% of the time. He was not blitzed 63% of the time. So again, he was solving. If you didn't watch that football game, the numbers might be a bit deceiving because the numbers look like he was fantastic and no touchdowns. Okay, Jordan Tech is still not scored an offensive touchdown through one game. But I thought that he made some throws and he looked, he looked all right. I thought he looked solid against Colorado. Now what's Tennessee defense having stored for him? Nathan Robinson said earlier this week that Tennessee was pretty vanilla and if Tennessee was pretty vanilla in this football game defensively against Furman, I can't wait to see what Tennessee's got for Georgia Tech because they still did some things where I mean, that's all TJ Metcalfe come in, swap A gap to the linebacker on a blitz on third down.

7:13I really, really like that. I thought TJ Metcalfe was all over the place making some plays even though it was a game where it was front seven domination, right? In the game like that, he can firming your secondary is not really tested. That's one thing I'm going to be paying attention to a big time in this football game. How good is this secondary? Not saying I've heard them in Doza is a Heisman type guy, but still it's going to be your first true thread down the field. How do you defend? Furman clearly didn't fill the football down the field. Furman only had I think 46 passing yards altogether in that football game against Tennessee. Looking forward to seeing what that looks like, but you look at Alberto Mendoza versus Faeson Brandon and again, it was against Furman, but Faeson was fantastic in that football game. He counted for five total touchdowns. There's 43 passing yards all told for Furman. But yeah, Faeson Brandon was 13 to 17, 226 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions, completing 76% of his passes, 10 rushes, 68 yards and two touchdowns, four design runs all within the 25-yard line of Furman, two inside the 10 and of course those two went

8:17for touchdowns as well. And I think that's why Faeson Brandon, though he is a true freshman, though Faeson Brandon will be traveling on the road for his first road start. And though Bobby does not going to look like what Tiger Stadium will in death value or what Brian Denny would look like at Alabama or what Ben Hill Griffith Stadium will look like in Gainesville or Kyle Field and A&M or you know, pick your poison right of SEC venues, it's still going to be his first. And so he will be playing in front of a ruckus environment for really the first time in his life on any type of major scale. So how does he perform? How does he adapt? How does he communicate? I think having a veteran center and Sam Pendleton back will help him a lot on the road down to Georgia Tech. But I'm still giving the advantage when looking at the quarterback battle in this game to Faeson Brandon. Faeson Brandon can make all the throws. Faeson Brandon will be asked to throw more in this football game I would imagine, but his ability to run the football, not just when things get tough and he has to break down and go, but design runs third down inside the red zone all that more.

9:21Faeson Brandon's legs when you can get a hat on a hat block 11 or 10 on 11, you know, that's, that's, that's, that's good stuff, right? I mean, that's what you want. You're not down a guy in the run game like you are in the traditional run game. So I like advantage Faeson Brandon despite being just a true freshman playing in only his second game ever. But you know, for me, for Alberto Mendoza, I said Fernando Mendoza, Alberto Mendoza, you know, overall, I thought was a pretty good debut for, you know, for, for, for, for Georgia Tech. After only appearing in 106 snaps with Indiana in 2025 and 14 total snaps with Indiana Mop of Booty in 2024, he's still very raw. But you know, if you asked me, I'd rather take the true freshman with an abundance of talent and ability to affect the game with both his arm and his legs over a third year quarterback getting his first chance to be a starter that we still don't really know an awful lot about it again. Illusiveness might be a little, might be a little underrated when we're guarding Alberto Mendoza.

10:24He's not a run guy, but he can if his pressure breaks down in front of him. Also, right ankle, a bit limp for Alberto Mendoza in the football game, a bit sore that the broadcast said a good job breaking that down on the sideline saying he was dealing with that dating back to the first quarter. He's his ankle injury at heading out throughout this week. I don't think it's not like he's not going to play, but what's the status of that ankle? I think that's also something that we got to pay attention to this week as well. Josh Hypo was asked about Alberto Mendoza at his Monday press conference earlier this week, and this is what Josh Hypo had to say. How do you play extremely smart the other night? You can see him be able to progress through his reads, you know, one through five. Get all the way to the backside of the concept and do it extremely quickly. I was accurate football athletic enough to extend, make plays as a passer and has the feet to go gain yards afterwards too. So, you know, I thought he played extremely well the other night. Josh Hypo on Georgia Tech quarterback Alberto Mendoza, and we'll get more into the

11:27stout and what they look like offensively and defensively here in segment number two. But you got to know Georgia Tech is going to be hungry. Georgia Tech is going to be motivated because Georgia Tech did not score touchdown against Colorado and was embarrassed on its home turf to a team that I don't think is very good in that being Colorado. So I managed phase on in my opinion. We'll see what happened. This while the game is played on the field and not on paper. Okay. So when we return, what else about Georgia Tech, this offense, who's good on defense and what's what's the best chance of victory in terms of scheme wise that's coming up next. And of course, wherever you listen to your podcast as well. All right. So, Furman, not Furman, Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech in that Thursday game against Colorado looked like trash. Now do I think Georgia Tech is trash? No, I do not. Did they play like trash on that Thursday gaming is Colorado? They most certainly did. But I believe Georgia Tech is better than that. I do. The old coaching saying is, you know, you improve, you never improve more than from your first game to your second game or whatever. Maybe that's the case. You'll have Tennessee's improving as well because Tennessee needs to prove it in a number of things. But I think Georgia Tech is going to look more like a Brinkie coach football team. It's running the football better. That's stopping the football. That's getting off play action. I just, I can't sit here and think that Georgia Tech is that bad because Georgia Tech looked awful against Colorado on its home field.

16:32I'm expecting Georgia Tech to be motivated to be angry and to be ready to roll more so than it was against the buffs. Now with a long time to prepare for the Tennessee volunteers against as they played last Thursday. So what does that look like? Well in that game against the buffs, I mean, you know, Georgia Tech had 288 yards of total offense. 54 plays. They average 5.3 yards per play. Colorado had 307 yards of total offense. Georgia Tech threw it for 237. Colorado with a red shirt for like as a sophomore now. It's going to get so weird trying to get used to all that through for only 124. But hey, he came through on that last drive for sure. Georgia Tech, you know, this grounded pound smash mouth football team. 30 carries 51 yards. That is not good. Colorado meanwhile just ran it all over Georgia Tech all over Georgia Tech 49 carries for 183 yards. I mean, if I'm Tennessee, if I'm going to LB, if I'm if I'm Josh Hopper, if I'm going

17:35to Royal Sims, if I'm Joey Hall, I'm sitting there like, all right, let's get to work here. Let's run that football because there is some opportunities to run that football in a massive, massive way. Georgia Tech defensively. One sac six TFLs in that football game. No interceptions, no force fumbles. So they didn't get any turnovers. But it was just a disappointing game anyway. You want to spin it for Georgia Tech. But this is a football team that wants to run the football that wants to be grounded pound. And that just wasn't their identity against against Colorado last Thursday. So that is who they want to be moving forward. It's Josh Hyple pointed out on Monday to the main day. They are a physical football team. You know, they've had some turnover on their offensive line, but they still have a ton of experience, I think, over 90 starts on the offensive line. The running back rooms as deep as anybody in the country, they're physical. They run downhill, get great pad level. It will be a physical football game on Saturday night and we have to win with physicality.

18:40I think they have like three or four new starters on the offensive line. Again, Buster Falcnerz and Gainesville now. Offense coordinators gone, defensive coordinators gone. Brink, he had to replace both of his coordinators. And again, in game one, it's just game one. And it was a Thursday night kind of a weird deal. Still not not a good showing what so ever. You look at who they have. Of course, I broke them in doses of quarterback. Talked about him in 7 number one, 17 to 23 to 73 through the air. Justice Haynes came up with Alabama, transferred to Michigan. Now he's back in the SEC country and he is at Georgia Tech. And he's a big old boy, big old boy. I don't want to say bowling ball, but he is a big old boy. Let's see if we can. I'm going to pull up his. I'm going to pull up his roster page here. See if I can find his way to think he's like, 235.

19:41But I'm going to look at roll. He's listed at 210. That is not accurate. He's listed at 511 210. I do not believe that is correct. I think he's at least 225 pushing 230. He's a big old boy, but he's good. He's explosive. He's strong. He did not have the best day whatsoever against Colorado. Again, he had. He ran the football 19 times for 64 yards. And in fact, I think he only had about 25 yards leading up to the second to last drive of the football game. Let's see here. Yeah, he only had 24 rushing yards. That's right. Or Georgia Tech altogether only had 24 rushing yards on the night leading up to the penultimate drive with the second to last drive of that football game when they started to kind of rack it up a little bit. Just did not run the football effectively whatsoever.

20:43But Justin Haynes is a very talented tailback. They held on to Malachi Hoseley-Hoseley, however you say his name. He's an experienced guy, but he didn't have a very good game against the bus. 14 yards on six carries. Again, Mendoza is not necessarily a runner. So that's really the only two guys they have. Water Seeber, Jordan Allen did have a carry in this football game, but it was for no yards. It's those two guys experienced guys. They just did not have their way whatsoever against Colorado that was stifling against the run. You look at what they did through the air. And Jordan Allen's a guy. Clearly he's the go-to target for Alberto Mendoza. Ten targets, eight receptions, 113 yards. Every, if you watch that broadcast, it was always a Jordan Allen. Jordan Allen. Jordan Allen, Jordan Allen. He was the favorite target that emerged in game number one for Alberto Mendoza. Kevin Roach, Jr. He's a tie-d in. I believe he's like six foot nine. Like six foot nine.

21:45270 pounds, there you go. And he's a guy they want to get the football too. They want to utilize that. And I kind of like Darnell Washington asked if you will in terms of just the size. They're big old boy and they're going to try to get the football too. They gave him, they gave him six targets. He had four receptions for 37 yards. Jordan Allen and Kevin Roach, Jr. are the two primary targets for Alberto Mendoza. And who they're going to try to get the football too. Now another thing about Georgia Tech offensively. Back in fall, Campbell was Chris Winky that actually was in front of the media. And he was like, I don't know if we talked about it. I don't know if you're talking about it on the radio show. But he was like, if you're trying to prepare for us, good luck. Because you know, the most, you know, most offenses have 100 plays in the playbook. We have double that or whatever. Like, well, hey, buddy, I got news for you. You're in 57 plays the other night. Let's see here. Yeah, you're in 57 plays the other night. Like, you don't need 200 offensive plays.

22:49You don't need it. Like, like, you're not going to run that many. And they came out and so many different formations and sets. And it's all to try to confuse the defense. But if you're a defender, you're a concept player. Run what's called. And then based off that, you have tags. And it's all reactionary. And Georgia Tech center try to come out there and confuse the defense. Confuse the defense. Confuse the defense. Get them out of position. It's all about leverage and alignment. And try to exploit that. Well, Georgia Tech couldn't get out of its own way against the buffs last Thursday night. So that's something to keep in mind about that, uh, about that offense. Defensively, again, Colorado ran all over Georgia Tech. 183 yards on 49 carries. They had 212 yards netted. But of course, you know, I lost some yards as a team and then lost some yards in terms of sacks with the quarterback. But Tennessee should be able to run the football as it typically does against Georgia Tech because they could not stop it whatsoever.

23:49A couple of linebackers. Kyle efforts. EJ Lightsea kind of lead the way there. They operate out of a 425. They did transition a bit later in the football game to a five man front, which I think it's kind of interesting. Tennessee runs, um, primarily a four man front, but it looks like three, three personnel a lot of times. But Georgia Tech said, hey, I don't run a five man front of points in times because I can't stop the run. Um, so I'll be interested to see kind of what they want to do to try to stop Tennessee's run Tennessee. Who ran for over 300 yards against firm and obviously it's going to be much tougher, you know, hill to climb against the yellow jackets. But Tennessee will try to run that football for sure. And the secondary, they'll mix and match some guys in the secondary. There's some vets in there. Gonna run a lot of man. It's typically they always do, but, um, you know, if they run zone and they play off, you know, Tennessee will do just what they did against firm and what phase on branded in that RPO game. Just throw it out to the perimeter with those hitches and just take what the defense gives you. So that's a little bit about the scount offensively and defensively.

24:49And I'll birth them and doze to forward Georgia tech. We'll continue to talk about this as the week progresses. Hopefully we'll have a, um, we'll have a crossover episode later this week and we'll get even more in depth on the yellow jackets. But that's kind of your first look, if you will, at what Tennessee is going to be facing against Georgia tech on Saturday. One of three true freshmen quarterbacks in Tennessee history to account for five touchdowns in the game. The first SEC quarterback to account for five touchdowns in the game. Or the first SEC quarterback to throw for three touchdowns, rushed for two touchdowns in the game since Cam Newton. Faeson Brandon, yes, the competition was firm. And I hear you, but Faeson Brandon had quite the Tennessee debut. But he's got to build on that. How does Faeson Brandon build on that? This week in practice before heading to his first true road game of his career. Josh Hyple addressed that to the media this week. Prepare the right way and empty the tank in your preparation. That's film study, understanding what we're doing. It always comes down to little things. That's at home, our on the road, but on the road, it's even amplified. So great in communication, control and command of what we're doing.

30:00He's going to have to make plays, but he's got to take care of the football as well. Yeah, I think again, having a veteran center back in San Pendleton will help with the communication aspect on the road for his first true road start. Speaking of San Pendleton, speaking of the offensive line, there were a lot of different combinations. What do you think about the offensive lines play? How many common a you're still going to be rotating a ton down in Georgia? Georgia Tech this weekend. Josh Hyple addresses. New center playing. Some of our issues, some things that we need to clean up, stem from communication. That's all five of them. Ultimately, during the course of the season, you're going to need more than just five. So, you know, guys got their grades today. There's areas of improvement for all of them. And we'll see, you know, how we play it on Saturday night as we go through the week. Couple things on the edge, tied ends, they just got to clean up some of their fundamentals. Couple of it was just communication on a different front.

31:02Then, you know, what we anticipated and don't block it right. So, end of the day, it's nothing major. It's doing the little things. And when you get ready to go on the road at night, the little things add up really quickly. So, those are some of the small things that we got to grow in to be ready to go play on the way that we need to Saturday night. Josh, hype on the offensive line and why Tennessee wasn't able to run it as effectively in the first quarter against Ferman as it did in the final three quarters when Tennessee's offense really started to get going. I didn't think the offensive line played particularly well in the first half or the first quarter on Saturday. Upon rewatch, I think they're a little bit better, but I still would not say that that was a glowing game for Galen LRB's group. Also, I think it has to do with, hey, nine possessions with Faes on Brandon in the football game, nine or six different offensive line combinations. Pick your five and roll with it. I mean, it's as simple as that in my opinion. Finally, why didn't Faes on Brandon push the football down the field a lot in the first half,

32:06like he did in the first two series to begin the second half? Pretty conservative play calling it times, but also taking advantage of what Ferman was giving the young court. Yeah, Anticipated them being pretty soft early in the football game. That's why there were a bunch of shots down the football field, but you talk about playing smart football, the little things adding up. We're behind the chains on Drive-2 and Drive-3 from self-inflicted wounds. All of that is a part of why the first quarter was the way that it was. Josh Heibos is not pleased with that first quarter. Also, whenever he said they were playing soft, soft coverage. I know some of the people will say that Josh Heibos called Ferman soft, and maybe he did behind closed doors. He would never do that on the record talking about soft coverage in that football game. Again, I think I said it on the post game show, like that RPO game, RPO game, you're playing like eight, nine yards off. That's why he kept throwing those hitches there to begin the game because they were just giving it to him, and that really allowed him to

33:08get in and get a feel for the game. The check down to Trent Thomas on third down to move the sticks. I thought it was a big moment of growth there for a young quarterback making his first true start. Faze on Brandon was good last week against Ferman.
