Kraft Heinz Canada Invests $250M in Montreal Factory

Canada's story is making news on March 20th.

Kraft Heine's Canada just announced a $250 million investment in its Montreal factory.

The goal is to ramp up local production for popular brands like Heine's ketchup, Kraft

dinner, Philadelphia cream cheese, and Kraft peanut butter.

This move aims to meet growing demand right here in Canada without relying on imports.

Right now, about 90% of the ketchup sold in Canada comes from Canadian tomatoes, mostly

from Limington, Ontario.

But during summer peaks, they import the rest from the United States, or even Europe, due

to limited capacity.

Company President Simon LaRose says they've planned for the next five years and know

they need this boost to keep up.

Canadians clearly prefer products made at home, and this investment plays right into that.

The factory already employs more than half of the company's 2,000 Canadian workers.

As their most complex site worldwide, with 41 production lines handling a ton of variety,

the funds will modernize the Mount Royal facility, adding capacity, flexibility, efficiencies,

and reliability.

In two to five years, they'll produce nearly 100% of the ketchup Canadians need locally.

That costs logistics costs and simplifies supply during busy times.

Overall, this strengthens homegrown manufacturing and responds to buy local trends, ensuring

more craft times favourites stay made in Canada for years to come.
