I just bought a new automobile the same way they did in the 1900s when movies were silent. Wow. Well, I just got this Jeep from Flexcar. All my smack of rules go to paying off the hefty value. This little gas buggy lost the second I chugged out of the dealership to toot. Okay. Well, Flexcar includes maintenance and insurance and I can switch to an F-150 or Mercedes anytime. What are you high on, Giggle Jizz? Buying a car supposed to be the bum deal. You pretend it's the Bison's berries. I have no idea what you're saying. The first and only months to month Carly's Flexcar you drive everything. Every game day you show up for your team. Now it's your time. This is Angus Maximus. This partner has one pound of a pound of hot. She'll see cooked to water Angus speed. It's more expensive than a quarter pounder. The battle of clothes. And for only 599 even regular juice can afford it. Like that guy. Give me that big open. Yeah. The whole Angus Maximus only 599 is cold senior. A bill for a limited time of participating restaurants. I am Brad Van Wawa. 599. That makes me excited. No one else makes me excited. I'll shorver. Game winning grand slams.

Jamie Lynch, Corey Simon with you. That was a wacky and wild game last. Wacky and wild. Wacky and wild. Hoofy game that baseball. You know, it was a big night for the Phil's though because not only do they mount a couple of the backs and win the game, but they picked up ground on the Braves. Thank you. They picked up ground on the Cubs. It was all around beneficial night. The best night the Phil's have had weeks. Yeah, that was well. There was a concerning aspect of last night. There was. I just mean all around the picture. Yeah, I mean a lot of clutch hits. A lot of small ball. You got the grand slams. You saw what this offense has the capability of being at any time. We'll get to the concerns about Christopher Sanchez coming up in a little bit. Because you can't gloss over that. He is certainly had some concerning moments recently. But let's talk about that Kyle Schorber and let's make it today's Evans pest. Home field advantage because there's not much prettier in this world than watching a Kyle Schorber moon shot at citizens bank park.

And last night was his 10th career grand slam. And he got to watch that one because it was a no doubt about her. It wasn't even his bat speed is just silly Corey because it was almost like he like. Miss judged it and then just like. And it was like no doubt about it gone. My wife came down and I was like, oh, like that was. It was like almost San Diego asked like sends one into the night. And it was like not even like his prettiest swing. It was just like he came around on it so quick and it was. Many hundred feet away. It's why when you go into a season, especially when Kyle Schorber is still in his prime, you peg him for 45, 50, 55 home runs. Because the power is so consistent. I mean, the bat speed is what does it? The forearm strength and just like the quick twitch with his hips. It's ridiculous. The amount of power this guy is able to generate. And he's been pretty consistent all year with the power. Like we have a graphic of his month by month.

And a lot of these home runs did come early. Like he had 22 by the end of May. He had 30 by the end of June. But really July was the only bad month that Kyle Schorber has had this season. And he wasn't even his normal June Schorberian. No, but he's still I mean eight homers and a 305 batting average in the month of June. And so you see that in September here, he already has four homers, 10 RBIs. Home in four of his last five games. And he's really heating up when it matters most here. The combination of Schorber turner and Harper collectively. The three of them is probably the best they've been as a three man group is right now. Yeah, yeah, they have been. I just pointed out to the young Ethan. I love the month of hoon. Which is they don't pronounce J's. Yeah, they don't. The mother of the. The J in the age of right next to each other. That's pretty funny. But yes, Kyle Schorber a spectacular night last night. Isn't that like one of those YouTube tricks when you spell something wrong or you pronounce something wrong?

It hopes that a bunch of people comment about it. So good strategy. Comment about it. Hoon in the comments. Let's get a thumb thumbs up for Ethan. That was hilarious. But yes, Kyle Schorber last night. And he's making history. And anytime you're you're mentioned in the likes of a Babe Ruth. And he just surpassed Ryan Howard over the weekend for the most home runs in a Phillies five year period of time. Now he's joining the likes of his George Herman Ruth. And he is just four home runs away from Babe Ruth for the most home runs in the first five seasons with a team. Wow. I mean, incredible Babe Ruth had 235 home runs in his first five seasons with the New York Yankees. Kyle Schorber has already passed Mark McGuire. I mean, when you look at these names, this is ridiculous. Mark McGuire had a 70 home runs.

Yeah. And the first 70. Yeah. Yeah. Kyle Schorber has 231 home runs now. If he can hit four more by the end of the year, let's get a thumbs up in the chat for Schwarbs. I don't get there. I would think he's at least going to tile 16 more games to go. He needs four. I think I think he's going to hit another like seven myself. So if he does that, he becomes the greatest five year stretch with a new team in Major League baseball history in terms of putting the ball over the wall. I mean, just look at that list. Yeah. Goodness. And like, honestly, my big takeaway from that stat is that this is why players like that don't come available often. And it also again highlights that Kyle Schorber was not quite this player when he signed with the Phillies. I think like revisionist history makes people think that he was always this guy from the home and he came up. But if Kyle Schorber was this impactful, the Phillies wanted to have a dramatic of a power hitter, he would not have signed a contract for under $20 million when he first got here. Every team would have been in on him. Other teams would have kept him instead of letting him walk.

So I mean, this has just been the consistent growth from Schorber has been amazing. You know, I saw Joey Vato the other day said that he thinks that if you put Aaron judge in a different era, previous era, he would have hit like 75 homers a year. I wonder what the guy like Schorber, like if you put him in 1993, if you threw him into like the early 90s or, you know, even the steroid era, like if he was facing slop, who was facing 87 mile per hour fastball. Didn't have to face a biting sweeping slider from every reliever. Imagine Jamie Boyer versus Aaron judge. Exactly. Yeah, I mean, I just I mean, Schorber is just incredible. And I think that you can put him in any era and he would have been successful. Yeah, he was trending a lot online last night because obviously when you hit a game winning Grand Slam in that scenario, and huge shout out the trade turner for making that a game there in this. Was that the six turner was the biggest storyline of the game. Tourer was awesome last night. If you look baby steps, we've peed on the guy's shoulder enough this year that when he has a game like that, let's hope it can get the moment.

I'm going here over the next two weeks and take him into the playoffs on a high note, but he was he was huge last night. Yeah, I mean, so two big hits from trade turner, both of them promising signs because he went the other way. Trade turner never goes the other way. Hopefully this is a sign that things are clicking for him that he's hitting the ball where it's pitch that his pitch pitch recognition is kind of matching up now. One of them was a two strike pitch that Turner went the other way and he singled in between first and second when Brian Daler Cruz was executing a hit and run perfectly done. Yeah, that's the one you think of when you think of trade turners like the singles putting the spreading the ball all over the field, being able to do things that involve speed. And you want to see more of that. So finally, he seems like he's generating a little positive momentum. He also hit a home run to the opposite field. I mean, he you look at his last week or so, he's starting to get it done a little bit. His OPS is creeping towards 700. He's up to 19 homers on the season. And when I said on Anthony show earlier today was trade turners scored 93 runs this season. So he's going to score his 100 and he's going to score like 105 runs.

Yeah, something like that. That's his worst career numbers. So if he had just like a normal season, he would have scored like 150 more runs right now 130 runs. Yeah, would it wouldn't be incredible. So let's hope fingers crossed baby steps to the playoffs baby steps towards red October. Trade turner gets it going because you want to talk about an addition to this offense that would be most welcome. It's certainly trade turn. Yeah, that would be more of an addition than anything. The Phillies could have brought into the trade deadline or anybody any bit piece who's getting hot would be trade turner just doing what he's capable of doing. Because he has carried the Phillies for weeks at a time in previous seasons. It just hasn't happened this year. Maybe it's happening at the most important time of the trade. Poor season for a hot playoff trade turner. I will make that deal every day of the week. Absolutely. If he gets 400 in the playoffs power, nobody's going to. Nobody's going to remember that this was a career worst season. Nope. So come on, try. Take a soul. Do it. I want to run this by you in back in terms of Kyle Schorber. Because I saw this last night and I thought it was pretty interesting about what's ahead for Schorber.

And we've talked about how he's probably Cooper's bound. Cooper's town bound. Yeah. If he keeps this up for a couple more seasons, somebody made the comparison to Nelson Cruz last night. And they did the baseball. So Vant. So Nelson Cruz really hit his stride at age 34. Nelson Cruz after the age of 34 hit 267 home runs with a 140 OPS plus from age 34 on Kyle Schorber at age 33 is pretty much identical in the MLB Savant comparison at age 33 to age 34. So the person was drawing the comparison of like Ken Kyle Schorber did what Nelson Cruz did. And I don't see why not. I mean, to think that they're still potentially 250 more home runs ahead of them. You know, everybody ages differently and yada yada. But the point is being made that Cruz didn't really hit his power surge until around the same age that Schorber is in now.

So that's very interesting because like I haven't thought of that comparison. Schorber and Nelson Cruz, but it makes a ton of sense. And Nelson Cruz is not a hall of favor. You know, like I don't think there's any debate about that. Like he's just not all it and people don't view him that way. And now that you put it through that lens, maybe we are getting recency bias with Schorber. And maybe he's not going to be viewed as a hall of favor because Nelson Cruz at 464 home runs. Schorber is going to need to hit 500. I think to make the hall of favor he's at 384 right now. So you can get to 500 with three more big seasons. That's crazy. Cruz had six great seasons. Schorber has had six great seasons at this point. So I think that's the separator as the Schorber needs to have two, three, four more. If he to this contract is a five year, $150 million contract. If Schorber has four really good years, he's a hall of favor in my opinion. Yeah. Because that'll be four years. That'll be like 160 homeers over the life of that contract. That'll get him to like five 20-ish in terms of home runs. And he's also had some really high profile, you know, playoff moments as well. Sure.

Which is going to weigh into it as well. Also beloved by players and by voters, which is going to help him along the line someday. But the Nelson Cruz comparison is very interesting because that is like what the value Schorber provides. But it didn't feel like Nelson Cruz was as impactful as Schorber is right now. Did it mean to you? I always thought because Nelson Cruz kind of had that vagabond aspect to him too, where he changed teams a lot. Yeah. I never understood. I remember crying for him like seven, eight years ago. Like why not go grab Nelson Cruz, he's going to hit 45 home runs for you in Citizens Bank Park. So he was always kind of one of those hard valuation players. Like teams didn't know what to play him, but he was always good for like 35 to 45 every year for a while. He had some great power years. It just feels like Schorber is more of like a face of baseball than he ever was. Yeah. Not that that matters in terms of production, but Schorber is just so much more of a household name. All right. So last night was great. Anything else jump out to you? I was really encouraged by Turner, obviously Schorber will get to Sanchez in a minute and the concerns there.

Anything else jump out to you last night? Just that the Phillies finally have like the right bench mix. I think I said that about a month ago, but you know, Brian Dale Cruz was right smack dab in the middle of both rallies. One of them he walked ahead of the grand slam. He drove in a run with the walk and then scored on the Schorber grand slam. He also singled in between first and second base. Or he also was on base with a single ahead of the trade turner single between first and second. Dale Cruz was on the run on that hit and run attempt. I mean, he's hitting 400 as a filly. And one of those shows has had some really big at bats here over the last few years. He made up for Tuesday night a little bit last night. Yeah. And we'll talk about that in a second. And one of those shows does like the Pimp his owners. I mean, he like, you know, he when he hit the grand slam in an anaheim, for example, he knew it and he let the bat go. And that was an example the other night where he was probably a little too confident in how far he hit the ball. Yeah. But just this is the right bench mix like the fillies have spent years trying to find like multiple guys who can come through off the bench. You know, like think of the Western Wilson's and the David dolls and the Whitmeri fields.

All the guys they've cycled through between Dale Cruz Derek Hill. You know, I love me some Derek Hill. Did you see there was a cool video of Derek Hill is wife foot on TikTok apparently. He helped somebody down and Atlanta. Change their flat tire after the game. Some woman got like stuck on the side of the road and Derek Hill got down there with the with the repair and helped out and his wife put it up there. So just genuinely good guy Derek Hill. And that person was probably none the wiser unless he's a die hard baseball fan. Yeah, I'm sure they had no. What can't what can't Derek Hill do? I mean, you're right. The bench is that's the best. Potentially they've had a long, long time and you got three guys right now that you can actually bring off to get a hit. Like it's one thing to have guys who can play a bunch of positions off the bench, but to have somebody that you can bring up like a Sosa or a Dale Cruz or a hill against a tough left handed pitcher late in the game. You know, that might happen in October. Brandon Mars maybe pinch hit for and you know, the other thing getting back to Tray Turner real quick is. The reason why it's a long season. The reason why it's important to have like the ups and downs of a team.

Guys getting hot when others are not bracing stop last 20 games hitting about 150. He was so hot for so long that was bound to happen at some point, but it's it means something when you can have another guy. Step into that kind of hot productive role the way Tray Turner has been over the last week. Oh, John Pease points out in the comment section. One of the people he was helping out did have a Philly show on. So maybe they did know it was the great Derek Hill. Maybe he did pretty pretty cool. What else was I going to say? Oh, my buddy Mike Passchion is watching out in Oregon. He said Nelson Cruz, great immaculate grid guy. Oh, yeah, I bet. Yeah. So let's talk about Tuesday night here before the break. That was bad. The Philly's base running low IQ team. It feels like it's the worst that's ever been. Brandon Marsh. That's a little league mistake there. At Mundo Sosa, pimping a home run that hits off the wall should have been on third. If you took off like a bad out of hell out of the box, who knows?

Maybe you round third and force a play at home and tie the game there. That's inexcusable stuff. And Kudos to Brandon Martian and Mundo Sosa. They owned it right after the game. They basically said, yeah, that's on me. There's no excuse. I can't defend that. Sosa's quote is this. It's simply not happening again. Sosa said, I respect the game a lot and I try to show that. That's one of the things I don't tolerate from the game. Just lack of hustle and not running. It does seem like, and I'm going to read it down, maddenly, quote, from the Todds a leaky article here in a second, too. It does seem like they're just not thinking. It seems like their brain is shutting off there. Like Brandon Marsh, I know you're excited. Games on the line. There was no outs at the time, I believe. Or was there one out in that end of the inning? I forget. Either way, that's a rally killer. You just can't have that one because I was encouraged by their comeback ability, both of the last two nights. You can't do that there. It's really bad. Todds a leaky put out some of the numbers across the league.

It's maybe not as bad as we think it is, although it feels like they're the worst in the team. The Phillies are the fourth best based running team in Major League Baseball with plus eight runs created according to baseball, so bonds based running value metric that measures runs created or lost by a ceiling basis or text taking extra bases on the base pass. They rank fourth over the past three seasons with plus 21 runs created in that category. But running into outs, it feels like they do that a lot, right? Todd says in his newsletter, the Phillies have made 35 outs on the bases this season according to baseball reference. They're tied with the Dodgers and Brewers for 21st in baseball, Corey. Outs at first base. They're 11th tied for third in baseball. Outs at second, six, 27th, third base, seventh, outs at home plate, eight for 28th in the league. So it seems like it's second in home. They take their chances and it bites them a decent amount. Certainly not the worst in the game right up there with the Dodgers and the Brewers. Two teams that are bound for the playoffs here.

But what do you make of the Phillies based running was? You know, I just think Philadelphia, everything's exaggerated. Yeah, like if a guy makes a base running blunder for the Phillies, 30,000 people tweet about it. If a guy makes a base running blunder for the royals or the reds, maybe 12 people tweet about it. You know, so I think that's the difference right there. And it's another thing where it's almost like defense of team defense. Unless you watch a team every day, you don't know how good or bad they are. You don't know how good or bad a player is defensively. There are probably a lot of other teams obviously with the Phillies being 21st and outspan on the base pass. There are a lot of other teams that make outs more frequently than the Phillies and that we be complaining about if we had to watch them on a daily basis as well. But when I think of this team, the only like really good base runners, I think of our trade turner, Bryson Stott, who never gets caught stealing and takes extra bases as much as anybody. Derek Hills, a really good base runner, JT for the most part is a good base runner. You know, the marsh thing the other night, obviously just the mental laps got too far. Our second base gets doubled off. He was halfway down the line. Yeah, I don't, yeah, that's bad. And so, the thing I trust him when he says he's never going to do that again.

I believe he's never going to do that again. It doesn't like take that back. It doesn't get you that win the other night. But I would say for me, the most glaring base running mistakes the Phillies make is that Bryce Harper tries to get to aggressive a lot of the times. I think that Harper in his head thinks he's a little faster than he actually is. 100%. Like I don't think he's, I don't think he realized that he might not be quite as quick as he was seven years. That is serious. That's 26. Exactly. Yeah. I do love his aggressiveness. Now sometimes you obviously want it to be a little smarter. But I love his mentality overall of like screw it. I'm going to make you make the play. Yeah. I'm going to go get that bag. I do think obviously it can bite you come playoff time. Or it could work out for you. Like I do love his style of base running. I don't think he's dumb sometimes. I don't think he's going to be testing Petro Armstrong. Yeah. Phillies face the Cubs in the playoffs. Honestly, all the Cubs outfielders have pretty good arms like happen. Suzuki as well. But I just think with Harper is similar to with like with the challenging.

You know, he challenges a lot and he's right half the time. I think that it's almost like an ego thing in a good way. Yeah. Where it's like I know the strike zone. That wasn't a strike or like I know my speed. I'm going to be able to leg this into two. When half the time you don't, you know, half the time the team does make the play. I will say though that I am on board with what you said that like make the team make the play. Yeah. A lot of times like if there's a tying run on third base or whatever and it's a flyball to medium deep and the third base coach doesn't send the runner. It's like how often is the guy actually going to make the perfect throw to nail? And now with the new catcher rule at home play too. Yeah. Like it's kind of in the runners favor a little bit. Speaking of which the other day I saw a clip on Twitter. I think it was from like 2010 of Chipper Jones bowling over Eric Crats at the plate. Just like completely knocked them out. But Crats held onto the ball. Yeah. It was that. I just love it. I know it's caveman and arcade. Yeah. Like what was better than the play at the play? Nothing, man. Yeah. We've gotten so soft down baseball that you can't even say maybe that guy should get hit. Maybe she should get plunked. Yeah. Now if you say that, you're like Satan.

I know. I feel like a caveman when I'm like I like fighting an hockey. I think it's cool. People are like. What are you guys doing? And here's Don Maddie and Elise Quote. He acknowledges their base running needs work. He does defend that there in some categories. One of the better teams in baseball over the last 40 years. You know, they score out really well. But he did say I think you just have to remind them. Make sure you're thinking out there correctly on Wednesday afternoon. Most of the time you're asking what they're thinking in that situation. And that's what it is. It's all just like I know they're professional athletes and they've been around the game for decades. And it still all goes back to Little League for me. Like I was coaching my girls in softball this year. And every time we were going through practice or simulation, I was like, all right, man on first, one out. Short stop. Balls coming to you. What are you doing here? And what are you doing on the base path? Like you always just have to like beat over the head. Situational. Every situation is different. Like where are you taking a lead? Where are you throwing the ball?

I know they're professionals. But you do have to just keep reminding them. So I like what Don Mattingley said. Yeah, and he played the game. I mean, he knows long season. Some guys do need to be reminded. Some guys don't need to be reminded. And hopefully the Phillies just don't have an in like an untimely gaff on the bases at the wrong. That's the big fear is that bite you in a three game series versus the cup. Because there are going to be close games all throughout the playoffs. And every one of these base running decisions is going to be magnified. Yeah. And I don't want guys to get gunshot. Like I one harbor. I try to take that extra base. If he sees it and stop the same thing. But you know, when you're playing real tight games, all of those moments matter so much more. Like if you win a game seven to two and Bryce Harbors out trying to leg a single into a double, nobody cares. Yeah. You know, but if it happens in a one one game in the seventh inning when everything's so tight, it's a lot different. Yeah. So thanks, Evan Spass for the home field advantage there. Um, So, um, so patio furniture said, uh, couldn't you better get one in the back this weekend? Yeah, exactly.

I'll be honest with you in the trust tree. I wouldn't hate it. Well, did you see the story last week or the week before where the Red Sox announcer got into all this trouble because jazz chisms stole two bases on them with the Yankees up seven runs and the Red Sox radio announcer. He had the audacity to say maybe they should plunk them tomorrow the way baseball was part of the game for a hundred years and it became like think pieces like how dare you. Endanger this player and it became like oh, he's racist because it was about jazz chisms. We've just gotten so soft. How many people watch have a side from getting plunked in baseball? You know what I mean? Like over the history of the game. Come on. It's late. Not people. You can throw a baseball. I get it to weapon. You can take one in the ribs. You're the guy in the bud. Yeah. Yes. All right. On the other side, let's check in on the NLE standings, the wild card standings and talk about the Christopher Sanchez elephant in the room. A lot to get to coming up next. P H O I fill these podcasts presented by a five dollar Sizzle meal deal with your Sizzle of Oh you're not a Sizzle guy are you a panini guy had a panini yesterday for a while we stopped with the family over the weekend I my go to is a club sandwich these days. The while while club is a top notch item I get up there with the best thing they do my stomachs ground a little bit so I might get one after the show I'm a pork roll I can cheese Sizzle man. All right Corey we got a check in on the standings because thanks to the Tampa Bay raise my favorite team they took down those stinking braves last night.

And thank you to the Milwaukee Brewers for taking down the Chicago Cubs there it is it's a thing of beauty three games back I'm not going to talk about Tuesday night and what could have been the three games back. Let's hope it's to heading into tomorrow that would be nice because three games with the braves upcoming. You got a chance you got a chance here in the brave schedule is not easy. No it's not and the braves are kind of really offensively right now love it brave scored 11 runs total in their last five games and three of those runs came on one swing when Akunya homer off Alex McFarland. So aside from that one moment they've been like pathetic as a lineup the last week Matt Olsen's been slumping for a month. They're asking a lot of questions down in Atlanta about the lineup about the rotation because now Bryce elders hurt so there are three man rotation in a playoff series the braves would probably be like Chris sale grant homes martin Perez or maybe rain all dole Lopez or maybe AJ Smith. Like they have one starting pitcher and that is a catchable team and Ethan we have the upcoming schedules of both teams Phillies and braves because it really just emphasize that these next like this next six day stretch Phillies have the

Astros this afternoon the braves have the raise I feel like the Phil's take it today will preview the game coming up in a little bit here and so I feel good about today and the braves are facing Nick Martinez who's a really tough customer he has like a finesse finesse type guy a soft tosser change up based you know the razor probably favored in that game against the brave today then comes the three games in Atlanta where the Phillies are going to have that's what it comes down to right obviously yeah I mean unfortunately the Phillies will have painter and no in that series that's better than Sanchez these days yeah I mean Lazardo will be pitching in that series which is great for the Phillies but that early next week when the the braves have three at rigley while the Phillies are off one day and have two against the nationals that is pulled out a wild one last night you see that who did the Mets did that 15 11 like a crazy comeback. Oh well yeah I mean though that week where the Phillies have the nationals in the Mets while the braves are on the road in Chicago and at Houston that is the opportunity right there to move ahead of the braves like you need to win two out of three this weekend to at least shrink the deficit to say two games but if

your two games back with 12 to play you can catch them and the thing that jumps out to me there is the brewers in the raise in those last two series of the year might not have a lot of seating or to play for you know wishful thinking but maybe you know somebody gets a breather or gets off their legs Jackson Cheerio sit down for a day you you've had a great year like take it easy Kristen Yellich you take a day you get a day you get a day you get a day you okay no you know I can't do dramatic yeah I got excited look the razor going to have nothing to play for because they have such a humongous lead for both the division and for home field advantage in the AL yeah so they're going to have nothing to play for by that final week the brewers may make the Dodgers are right so they're ten games on the I L though yeah so the brewers are ten games up on the coast but they're only one and a half games ahead of the Dodgers for home field advantage so they may still be playing for something but you know the other thing I think about when I look at these records and the upcoming schedules the two weeks in April they got Rob Thompson fired those two weeks where you faced Braves Cubs Braves Cubs and the Phillies went what did they go two and 11 in those 13 games those games got Rob Thompson fired and they

also got both of those teams the tie breaker over the Phillies in the NL and in the wild card standing so you really hope that that two week stretch in April does not come back to haunt the Phillies because they played so well since then yeah old friend in the chat Ned Ned Ryerson get to see in here pal needle nose Ned Ned the head a big groundhog day fan oh yeah I love them Murray he's the best all right let's get to today's big take away and even bigger Stephen Tobalowski fan the guy who played Ned Ryerson are you really big big character I can't believe you knew that name he's a funny character big take away brought to you by Xfinity get the Xfinity home shield a lot of cool stuff cyber security Wi-Fi motion detection I can spy on my kids to make sure they're actually doing their homework Skyler tried to wiggle out of a math homework last night not not not not on my watch I heard you run a tight ship sometimes depends on the day the big take away is this there's a little bit of a Christopher Sanchez elephant in the room Corey

ever since his 52 inning scoreless streak or whatever it was 53 and a third he hasn't been quite the same last night he was getting shelled by right handed pitching he was good against the lefties was kind of getting shelled by the righties this is the fifth time this season he has allowed 10 plus hits in a game no other pitcher in baseball has done it four times he's done it five before this season he had only allowed 10 plus hits in one of 85 starts this year it's five of 30 talking off the ledge well 10 plus hits is not what you'd ever expect from an ace and for it to happen five times it is it paints a very conflicting and confusing picture with Sanchez it's a good thing that he's been so monstrous with runners and scoring position this season because if not as ERA would be like a half run higher but with Sanchez it really just comes down to the sinker his

opponents are hitting 336 against the sinker this season compared to 268 last year okay and interestingly in 2024 they hit 342 against the sinker and he had a great year that year and he's having a great year this year he is a 17 and five a sub three ERA and this is what I'm like my brains and a pretzel the change up is so good like the even if he doesn't have his best change up it's still going to get outs no matter who he's facing like it's still going to get swings and misses foul balls weak contact the sinker though is is really the difference if Sanchez has a good if he has just a competent normal sinker going it's going to be six innings one run but if he has it like last night where he's elevating it and he's leaving it over the middle of the plate it's not like it's a hundred miles per hour it's 95 so it's hitable you know it's hitable if you leave it in that zone and I think that's really what it comes down to for Sanchez like his last 12 star she has a 291 opponents batting average that's not just on the sinker that's on any pitch and that's closer to like aeronol early season than it is to Christopher Sanchez I will say that

when he has outings like last night it makes you wary because if he has a missed timed clunker like in game one of a playoff series yeah oh boy now I mean a three game series anything can happen yeah and now you're in a hole so does it with Hazus Lazardo being so good recently with his numbers on the road and that's why I feel great about him this weekend down in Atlanta I think it's a one eight eight ERA on the road this season with the games being in Chicago are you having forget you you know the organization is the organization having those conversations right now of restacking the starting rotation in a three game series if the season if the playoffs began tomorrow and the Phillies rotation was entirely rested you could pick your yeah picking choose I'm starting Lazardo in game one you know so my yeah and I don't and I hope that's not a hot no it's not it's not at all he's so good especially on the road it's not like the Phillies are saying you're out of the rotation or in your pain or game one they're just saying that they're just saying we pick Lazardo right now and I honestly I think that's what they would choose if

that was a perfectly rested situation where you could choose any guy you wanted that's not to say that it will be Lazardo there was an interesting point raised by back galb and the athletic the other day about how if you don't start Lazardo in games one or two at least gives you the ability to bring him out say you get down one oh in the series it at least gives you the ability to bring the Lazardo out of the bullpen in game two if you must have the outs whereas if you would have used him as a start in game one that possibility no longer exists but for me though if the three guys are pitching somewhat like they are right now Lazardo is a clear clear one so do you go lefty righty lefty yeah I would go Lazardo Wheeler Sanchez I just didn't think we would be here at any point this year because I mean we were talking about him as a side young favorite neck and neck with Mizorowski and now the reality is Hazus Lazardo yeah but as past him and team ERA the the weird thing of all this is he surviving and keeping you in games last night the offense bailed you out but it just feels like there's a little bit of

playing with fire aspect here which scares me so and it's not we're not saying we've lost confidence to Chris for Sanchez and he's getting hit more than he ever he is but this is the beauty of having these like three aces that like whoever's pitching the best can be your ace at that given time yeah early it was Sanchez then Wheeler came back it was Wheeler now it's Lazardo so I think you just ride with the hot hand but it may not even be up to the Phillies though because if they are having to win every game down the stretch they might have it exactly so they're going to just align the rotation the way they can to get that home playoff game again home playoff series against the Cubs and then it might just come down to whoever's on their normal five four days rest I think John Pieces mocking me he says oh what a terrible problem they have to start Sanchez and game three yes most teams immediately baseball would kill for that problem every team yeah pretty much yeah except maybe a healthy Dodgers if they're ever healthy maybe yeah yeah no it's certainly a good problem but I do consider starting Lazardo game one he's been that good how much is his problem

getting behind in counts is the one that parade ace last night moon shot he had the deep left center felt like it was a get me over fastball because he was battling his way back into the into the count and it feels like it was belt high middle and just like right in his wheelhouse it was a mistake pitch but it felt like he knew he had to throw a strike there do you see that being a problem with him recently like getting behind some counts and having to get stuff over I mean it's harder for any pitcher when they're when they're getting behind in counts with Sanchez honestly I don't think it's as impactful because he throws the change up no matter what count it is if it's 203 one he still throws that change up so it's not like the hitter knows to sit on a sinker over the middle of the plate I think it just comes down to location if you threw a 20 sinker that was down and in it the knees or on the outside corner it's going to be a ground ball or a swing and miss or a foul ball but when you miss over the plate when you elevate it it's not you know it's not a jake of miserowski fastball like it's a it's a good pitch it's not an amazing pitch to sinker like if you look at the run if you look at the run values like last year his sinker was like plus 23 this year

it's minus three so I mean that's the big difference for Sanchez but it's just like a sounding that despite all that he has him the numbers are like sparkling right yeah he might get the 20 wins he 17 and five he's going to have what three more starts so if he wins his final three starts he gets the 20 wins which nobody's done for the Philly since holiday in 2010 she's so thanks to Xfinity for today's big takeaway had to talk about that big takeaway being a little bit of the elephant in the room because I won't lie to you I'm panicked a little bit good comment the wheelers been pitching like Chris Wheeler I love Chris Wheeler I like mine Wheeler either yeah you know what I think there's so many phrases that he came up with that we just like we just we consider part of our baseball lexicon at this point he was very always knew the scouting reporter the other totally really well he knew like he knew the game in an out loved wheels and I don't know if he invented the phrase no doubles defense but he certainly popularized it yeah and programming note this weekend Tom McCarthy team act is going to be doing some NFL games

so it's another weekend with Scott fransky in the booth which is cool nice little change of pace did you see that viral tick tock the other day the guy in his car like making the sounds of a baseball announcer yes so good like all gibberish like that a little bit a little while I don't think you said a cohere word and the whole thing it was so good and I wanted to read this quote as we headed to break in coming up next we have the draft kings match up breaking out of today's game Jason Stark friend of the program that can't come on because radio stations don't allow was all on an old radio station of mine the other day and had a quote about Alex McFarland I thought was interesting because Jason is as well he knows this team as well as anybody ever could and as his well source as anybody ever is his quote about Alex McFarland that pitch was a fluke his arm is different his stuff is different I think he has to be a big part of October oh I like to hear that I kind of agree with it I mean it's a hundred miles per hour a hundred

wasn't there the Homer he had a hundred one yeah and it was six and a row seven and a row a triple digits so I see that quote and I go and I start debating myself okay did they not call them up to late because they wanted to not have this huge book out on or did they make a mistake because this bullpen this year has been disastrous hindsight being 2020 would you have called them up earlier in the season or do you think they handled it kind of properly because all that matters is October at this point you were always kind of going to be a playoff team once you got out of the the adults room it's a tough question because like okay if they brought McFarland up a month earlier are they one game better in the standings maybe maybe not I don't know if it would have made a difference I mean probably with Kirk are in an alvarado's performance so maybe you're one game better maybe one game better but there is value in the league not having a book on I limited sample I mean the teams that McFarland faces in the playoffs cubs have never seen them Dodgers haven't seen them I don't think the brewers have seen them so I guess they will maybe see him by the end of the year right so the so the braves like the braves just saw him yeah

I couldn't I couldn't you know them well and honestly like with the way Kirkering's pitched lately like a gimme McFarland yeah and I think the Phillies feel that way too right now either way they've talked about Kirkering lately indicates that they're shifting Kirkering into less of a leverage role still going to need to pitch him at some point in October but I don't think that he's going to be your eighth inning guy or your seventh inning guy okay cool just wanted to share that because when Jason Stark speaks I like to listen and for him to say or have heard a lead arm he's different that jumped out well what was the other party say where he said he's going to play a role in October I think he has to be a big part of October Jason Stark is not the kind of guy who's going to say that if there's a zero percent chance of it happening he's saying that because he feels that it's going to happen maybe he's been I don't want to say he's been told that but he's a sourced man yeah he sees that that this is what the way it's trending and it's great because the Phillies needs someone else to emerge as that X factor and as the bridge to Duran absolutely all right coming up on the other side we're kind of a little bit of a pregame show today Zach Wheeler on the mound let's take a look at today's game coming up in a mere 25 minutes or so and then let's look at

I can't do math coming up in like 15 or 20 minutes and then let's take a look at the huge weekend series versus the Atlanta Braves we'll be right back if you're looking to ditch that nicotine pouch and do something that's actually good for you Lorraine Coe has got you covered Lorraine is a pouch that is nicotine free gives you 50 milligrams of caffeine for a smooth clean energy spike without falling off a cliff crash and it's made from the same minerals that your teeth are made from so it supports good oral health there's three flavors mint cinnamon and mango and they're nicotine free always and delicious so pick your favorite flavor they're all good you can do it on the go at the desk whenever you need every other pouch out there makes you choose between something that helps you focus and something that's actually good for your teeth this is the only one designed to do both and it comes from a brand that's leading the way in supporting oral health so give Lorraine a try right now Lorraine Coe is offering our listeners up to 50% off at by Lorraine dot com slash

if you want to take the money line it's minus 187 a little bit of a a pricey pricey game today but I do like Zach Wheeler he's been trending in the right direction I personally might take the the fills and Zach Wheeler today but as you say Christian Javier a guy that Philly should be able to get to today I think Zach Wheeler is rounding back into form with the playoffs quickly approaching so I like the fills today I'm liking a w today I mean it's a right handed heavy line up for the Astros I do worry that your Don Alvarez is not really made as mark in this series yet and I hope that he gets out of town without or the Philly you know the series ends without him making his mark but I just think that the Christian Javier like that's a guy who's going to throw 30 pitches in an early inning and he'd be awesome yeah and I see the fillies making him if they can just get that big bomb you know they've been getting that big bomb for the last five games from Schorber you can't just assume it every night but I'm liking them to finish this series on a high note and the Braves and Rays as he were saying are already underway yeah that must have been a 1210 start

today because they're already in the third inning there but yes I like Zach Wheeler and that would be another we talked about trade turner earlier kind of coming into forms Zach Wheeler coming into form would certainly feel great with red October right around the corner and the fills lineup today pretty standard lineup uh Stott Mars Crawford and Marshawn gets the start today at catcher with wheels on the mound but otherwise pretty much a normal lineup and you know this this you know with Wheeler he's probably gonna have what they'll have three more starts heading into the playoffs his last one was good he has enough time to build like an upward trajectory build some momentum get himself feeling better heading into the playoffs the one thing I just keep looking at with him though is the stuff is not diminished his fastball velocity is the same in the sixth inning as it is in the first inning he's still throwing 96 miles per hour so we're not seeing Zach Wheeler lose anything in that regard we're just seeing him miss spots and some of that might have been flukiness maybe some of it was a little like mid-season fatigue but as if anybody is able to kind of make their way

out of the woods and figure out a way to record outs to get through a game at Zach Wheeler all right and then obviously a three game series this weekend versus the Atlanta uh baseball club um could decide the division let's take a look at the probable pitchers for this massive weekend series Chris sale unfortunately on like an extra days rest gets the call on Friday night versus Aaron Nola then you feel great about uh hey Zeus on Saturday night and then the Sunday day game little chef Remi Andrew Painter takes the mound versus Grant Holmes how do you like the uh the odds of the the fills to take the weekend series versus the Braves here honestly I think they're going to lose two out of three I mean I hate to say that but Nola and Painter if you're gonna if you're just looking at on paper like Lazarus but so good you feel great about that game but Nola and Painter they've been like so reliable in in conjunction for you know about six weeks now that

can they do it one more time I don't know you know and I just um the Braves are in such a bad place offensively right now they're probably going to snap out of it in a couple days hopefully that doesn't come by the end of this weekend but unfortunately I think they're going to lose two or three of the Phillies but hey if they win two out of three they put themselves in a spot where they might be one or two games back when they leave Atlanta with the Braves facing the Cubs and Astros while the Phillies have the Nationals and Mets so everything's right there for them they basically control their own destiny they don't technically control their own destiny because even if they were to sweep the Braves even if they were to finish tied with the Braves and the regular season the Braves at the tiebreaker but it's as close to controlling your destiny as you can possibly get yeah and thanks to draft kings for today's match up breakdown new draft king customers sign up with code pH LY spend just five bucks and get 200 in reward within 21 days that's code pH LY in partnership with draft kings the crown is yours Corey on the other side interesting MLB expansion talk out there

pound of hot sushi cooked to water angus feet it's more fish than a quarter pounder the battle is closed and for only 599 even regular juice can afford it like that guy you get that big out burn yeah the whole angus max on us only 599 is cold senior available for a limited time of participating restaurants tax on included not valid for use within a combo or in combination with any other offer or discount glasses all right pho i fillies podcast and the extended lounge presented by all right Corey Jeff passin did a detailed look at the mlb expansion now the lockout obviously is looming I saw some chatter in the comment section earlier about it if we'll even have games next year and the one nice thing is the minor leagues can continue on without major league baseball and I saw some discussion about gauge wood maybe part of the reason he wasn't called up was because he'd have to be added to the 40 man and if that was to happen

he couldn't play next year and if there's a lockout maybe they want that option to keep him pitching in the minors so that's a that's a very good point I forget who who made that in the comments section but we have the smartest viewers and listeners here in the world at pho a stoop observation but gauge wood before we get to the expansion gauge wood tossed five uh strong yesterday for redding basically concluded his minor league year we will do it down on the farm report to kind of end the year and look at the top performers in the system but gauge wood oddly gets his first career W last night for the red and fighting fills weird well it's because most of the starts hadn't gone five in it yeah honestly that's a rule that baseball should change because what do you think it should be like I don't know what it should be maybe four innings but like no but like teams use openers now pictures don't go deep into games anymore it just strikes me as weird that you can go four and two thirds innings and not be eligible for a win but if you come in and relief in the second inning and your team goes ahead in that inning you get the win you know it doesn't make

sense anyway yeah gauge wood good to see it he got the win uh and it came with aad Miller in the lineup as well because aad Miller's finally gotten back on the field he played one game with clear water he played last night with redding went over three redding season ends this weekend so you might see aad Miller then move up the triple a Lee high Valley because they have one final week and then it sounds like the plan is that barring injury aad Miller will play in the Arizona fall he was expected to do so last year and he bowed out because of injury hopefully he's able to like get that development time back this this fall yeah uh Jeff Kerr out there caught up with aad and Miller uh I guess in redding uh and here's a quote that Jeff tweeted out he said I caught up with aad Miller he didn't think his back injury would last as long as it did quote it was frustrating I didn't think it would last that long in the back of my mind I only thought it would be a couple months and it kind of just kept lingering on I didn't really know what was going on once we finally found out it was kind of smooth sailing from there uh for a little while a couple months it was a lot

of what ifs and what we didn't know what it was so I'm happy for him and the Phil's organization and ourselves frankly that they finally did figure it out and he has come right up and is hitting the ball pretty well and you know you hope that continues on next year and who knows what you have I mean we spent the entire season like forgetting this guy even existed yeah so anything is better than the alternative yeah so there's that okay so yesterday Jeff pass and tweeted out one of his videos long form videos about the MLB expansion and it's expected to be announced once the potential lockout is solved or if it is solved let's hope it is but there's expected to be two teams added in the coming years in Major League Baseball and here's the cities that are being discussed apparently according to pass in Utah has the sexiest option for Major League Baseball in terms of like tax money and revenue and stadium and blah blah blah but Vernon Maxwell so they don't

even have internet they don't even know about that Xfinity shield for your home but here's the cities that are being discussed for expansion I want to get Corey Sideman's thoughts on these cities Montreal oh yeah it would be cool to see the expose written absolutely Montreal is an amazing city it is an awesome and if you added that back to baseball made that one of the stops that's a great road players would love it players wives would love it Philly sports trips to true fan travel sign me up Vince I'm coming on a Montreal trip if you guys do one in the future Montreal Utah Utah airport I will say I've never been I've only flown through it I've never actually stayed absolutely gorgeous Utah is gorgeous so like I would imagine the mountains in the backdrop of the stadium scenic wise would be pretty cool the ball would fly probably yeah because the elevation thin air Nashville feels like it's always been room this has been the one that Dave Dombowski has always been like rumored to that he would eventually take over the Nashville team although yeah who knows

Bob Nightingale he had did a piece on Dombowski about a week ago and in it he wrote that that is no longer a part of the Nashville ideas no longer like part of Dombowski's thought process yeah Charlotte yeah North Carolina should have a baseball I love North Carolina the state is great yeah Charlotte is a pretty city it's nice clean yada yada I don't know it just feels a little weird how do you think they should just because like there's a ton of huge baseball fans who live in that area I spent a lot of time in North Carolina it is but like they don't have a pro team and baseball obviously anything you would do well there I do think it would do well I mean you have they're mostly like crazed braves fans down there there's some who are also close enough I guess to be like nationals or Orioles fans but I think that you would get a huge part of I'd get you get the entire state you might even get some like South Carolina so I think sure I think Charlotte should have a team honestly okay so I would go Charlotte national the last two are Portland and Sacramento Sacramento come on what are we doing here now people in Sacramento don't even like

Sacramento Portland's close enough to Seattle the day Portland's cool I would go definitely Montreal and then you're between Charlotte and Nashville and Utah I mean you want to take a Utah for geographical purposes if you want to add like a Western yeah West Coast team but those are some pretty good options those are pretty good options I always like hesitant though when you hear about expansion because like there's so many bad teams already so some people on Twitter were saying like is there really 53 additional players for two more teams like that are needed like is it going to be a quality product I don't know I think there would be enough like town I think there are 53 more players and two of what were players you can put on these teams like they're already how many bottom feeding teams like Rockies athletics the Reds are like pathetic every year right now there's teams like the pirates marlins and rays that don't spend hopefully if there is expected I mean if there's a salary floor added maybe it would be good yeah

you could distribute the wealth a little more evenly and it would all balance out in the end I see some love in the comments for Vancouver gives Seattle a close by rock no Vancouver I'll be in nightmare for so many teams in baseball the travel that travel would be a bear patio furniture said I'm in I'm in Raleigh and he said all we have is the Doran Bulls yeah I spent a lot of time in that area in Raleigh Durham in I there's a you know Durham by the way Durham Bulls they've had a ton of these top Tampa Bay raised prospects come through over the years so they get they get their treat of seeing like elite talent on the way up but yeah that's just strikes me as an area that loves baseball and would definitely benefit from having a protein but you know it's funny Montreal my like have you been to Montreal yeah it's like it's just St. Patty's day bachelor party it's crazy to me that it's only a few hours away from here it's like a drive away and yet you feel like you're in Europe you know what I mean it's like it's the closest it's the closest to Europe you get in America yeah well we go skiing up in Vermont you start getting a margarita in North America yeah you start getting Montreal radio stations in Vermont so it

it is drivable it's a great city it's beautiful great food all right as we send it off today Phil's get it done today yeah I'm thinking so all right cool and I just wanted to bring this up because man we think we have a bad sometimes here with poor management the Padres yesterday we're facing the nationals Walker Bueller was forced to leave the game in the third inning because Craig Stamman visited the mound after Ruben Nub Nibla Nibla Nibla had already made a mound visit in the same inning how you're a half game back in the wild card race half game up now half game up how do you make that mistake this late in the season that is bonehead and Craig Stamman was a reliever recently he was a recent former reliever so that had to be like a total mental lapse he must have just missed his pitching coach going out to the mound same thing funnily enough happened about a month ago with the white socks and will venable we're headed to take a starting pitcher out in the third inning of that first inning of that game because he made a second mound visit so she should that cute

imagine how stupid he felt last night that's that's bad that's real that's worse than Brandon Marsha veering too far off second base yeah all right thanks Ethan Hartley behind the scenes producing the day show fills an action versus the stinkin cheat and astro's right now everybody have a great rest of your Thursday let's go fills huge weekend ahead versus Atlanta let's take care of business boys West Virginia Rick said he'd buy me a new pair of flip flops come Monday if they're tied with the braves holding you to that so holding you to that Rick have a great weekend everybody we'll be back next Tuesday Wednesday Thursday no Tuesday Wednesday Friday we're off Monday Tuesday Wednesday Friday yesterday Wednesday Friday there we got all right I get a lot going on up here all right have a great weekend everybody we'll see you
