She's back.
The towering vampire from them all.
And she's walking barefoot through daylight.
Like the sun doesn't matter anymore.
One scream, one parking lot,
and Maddie's world turns into sirens, shattered glass,
and a voice, calling her baby.
What's that?
You want to be scared?
Come with me.
He will experience tales of horror, ghosts, and death.
It is not recommended for the weak at heart.

crossing a parking lot like she owned the day
and when she smiled you realized she remembered you

Lady Frankenstein returns by Rob Fields.
You ever have one of them days when everything just goes to heck?
This little mouse he's been expecting it,
just a question of when.
It's almost noon on Saturday.
Dad knew mom was heading out to do her shopping,
so he figured he'd get some things done at his office.
Ariel Mirin offered to help, so he took her with him.
I was gonna hang out in the mouse hole, my bedroom,
and play a game I borrowed from my next-door neighbor
in Best Buddy Carter Cross.
Mom came up and asked if I wanted to go shopping with her,
so we got in her SUV and headed out
to Strictfield Town Center Mall.
It's always the same every time at the mall.
Whenever Harmony Mirin, the owner sees me,
she's gotta let me know she's watching.
She ain't never forgot what happened here early December
with that big vampire lady in Vaden here
and given us all a night to remember.
Thanks to Mary Worth, my ghostly friend and companion,
that monster was placed at the South Pole.
I'll be honest with you.
I keep looking over my shoulders sometimes
to see if that big vampire monster lady escaped
and came back to Strictfield.
I ain't forgot how she tried claiming me as her baby.
It's almost getting to be spring.
I gotta quit jumping at shadows and forget about her.
Besides, Ariel's been watching
and waiting to see this little mousey get scared.
Ever since our family took Ariel in on Christmas Eve,
it's been nice having her here.
Still, she keeps promising she's going to see me scared
one of these days.
Mom and me are leaving the mall after hitting up a few stores.
Now we're going across the road to Meyer to do grocery shopping.
Before going in, mom gets a call from dad.
They talk for a few minutes, then she looks down at me.
Maddie, could I get you to go find a few things?
She asks.
Sure, I reply.
When mom tells me what she wants, I go where I know they are
and get them.
Thanks to me, help and mom, we get done with the shopping
and check out no time.
As we're loading the SUV,
mom says we gotta make one more stop in downtown Village.
When we're ready to go, I put the cart away and walk back to mom.
I rub my eyes and see.
I ain't seeing things.
That big vampire lady from last December
is walking across the parking lot.
Toward us.
She's got different clothes from the last time we saw her.
A sleeveless shirt, shorts and still no shoes.
My heart's pounding when I see she's walking around in daylight.
But how?
I thought Bells was the only vampire who could do that.
I cry out when someone's grabbing my shoulder
and realize it's mom.
Woo.
Maddie, what's wrong?
She asks.
You all right?
Baby.
We hear that monster call out.
Mom sees that thing pointing right at me.
Now she usually don't back down from people.
But when she's seeing how big that vampire lady is
and her fangs,
she tries moving me in the direction of the car.
Suddenly that vampire lady's right there.
I hate when vampires can warp like that.
She grabs mom and lifts her off her feet.
You just know this little mousey is scared, real scared.
But Tiffany Donner leaves my mom.
I don't even think about it and get up on the hood of the car.
Then I leap on that thing's back.
I know I'm in big, big trouble when that monster's trying to get me off.
At least she let go of mom.
No one I don't want my mom anywhere near this.
I drop off the monster's back.
She turns around and sees me.
Baby.
Her voice is kinda echoey.
Your mom has returned for you.
Wow.
Her English got a lot better since last December.
She only spoke a few words.
Like she was still learning how to talk.
Get away from my daughter.
Mom yells running a big cart into the monster.
The cart don't do nothing but make her turn around.
Mom gets wide eyed when the monster grabs the front of the cart
and easily flings it over her back like a tennis ball.
Now this thing is mad.
Mom yells, run Maddie.
The monster forgets about this little baby and goes after mom.
Think, Mousey, think.
I always wondered why I was so good at coming up with plans when I'm scared.
That's when I remember mom's purse in the back with the groceries.
She never closed up the back.
I almost feel kinda bad digging in mom's purse, but I gotta do what I gotta do.
The monster keeps walking after mom like she's Jason Voorhees
from the Friday the 13th movies.
Mom didn't keep running though and turned to face the monster.
You are not taking my little girl.
The monster raises her finger.
But she's my baby now.
Mom's eyes get real wide making the monster laugh.
But that thing ain't seeing what's going on.
Mom's real surprised when she sees a little Mousey driving her car
and veering to hit the monster with the side.
When the monster falls, I scream, get in mom.
Mom shakes her head at first, but when the monsters move in again
she don't think twice and quickly gets in the passenger side.
When the creature's up again, it roars.
I quickly stomp on the gas.
Ain't the first time I did some squealing and peeling.
I drive across the parking lot and get us out on State Route 1.
And this little mousey is in big trouble.
Mom points behind us.
First of all, Maddie.
What the heck is that back there?
Where does she know you from?
Now she's pointing at me.
And since when are you able to drive a car?
Now I'm just smiling peculiarly and making little mousey sounds.
How do I explain to my own mom what I've been trying to keep from her all this time?
Especially when I'm busted.
I almost look in the mirrors to see if that thing's coming.
Then I remember she don't cast a reflection.
I look over my shoulder.
Aw man!
Mom looks too.
She's...
She's flying, Maddie.
Yep, I confirm.
Hang on.
Mom gawks at me.
What do you mean hang on?
Mom's learning I really do know how to drive.
I hit the brakes and drift right into an intersection.
Then I hit the gas just in time to see that monster miss us.
Mom saw it too.
I tell you to stop this car right now but...
I don't think that's a very good idea.
She says.
Mom keeps looking at me with wide eyes.
She still ain't believe in this little mousey's only 13 and driving a car.
The look on her face speaks volumes.
Keep going, Maddie.
Mom shrieks.
She's right behind us again.
Now she's looking ahead.
Oh, I hope there ain't any cops around.
Not today.
She's looking at me again.
Okay.
My little girl's driving a car.
So anything else you want to tell me?
Remember I am your mom.
Eh, I don't know if you're going to believe me.
I squeak.

Getting in is easy.
It's getting out that can be a bit messy.
Mom points behind us.
Maddie.
That vampire woman chasing us down.
She points at me now.
Remember what happened back in December when those mirror versions of you kids came into the real world?
After you all went into the old carnivasha state.
Your dad and I both helped you kids when you needed us.
I think it's safe to say.
You can trust us.
Mom's listening when I tell her about that overnight at the mall.
She already knew we got in trouble with Harmony Miran when Carter Cross and Ariel Miran were feuding.
You'd never know it now since their boyfriend and girlfriend.
Anyway, I tell Mom how we met that vampire lady.
I don't mention Mary Worth.
Not yet.
I don't want to freak her out too much.
And again, how much more can she get freaked out with that monster chasing us down?
I don't know why she's thinking I'm her kid, Mom.
I promise.
I keep driving fast and keeping that monster off our backs.
I'm not sure how much longer I can do it though.
I've got mirrors all around and could call Mary Worth, but I'm really scared.
How do you tell your own mom you're possessed by the spirit of a white witch?
I really don't want Mom thinking any different of me or treating me any different than she treats me now.
But I'm thinking we're already past that.
Mom's eyes are wide again.
Maddie, you are not thinking of getting on the freeway.
I give Mom that look before I drift into the on-ramp.
Then I squeal again when I'm hitting the gas.
Now we're on I-75.
Mom watched me drive almost 10 miles out of strict field and now on to a major freeway.
What am I going to tell your father, Maddie?
Mom groans.
Whatever you're going to tell him, I guess.
I guess I can count on being grounded for the rest of my natural life, huh?
Oh, Maddie, she says quietly.
I'm trying not to cry while driving.
I just don't want you and dad to, Mom, points right at me again.
Don't you dare finish that thought, Madeline, donnerly.
She sighs.
Do you think your father and me haven't gotten into weird things when we were growing up?
Believe it or not, we actually had a few interesting adventures when we were dating.
She takes a deep breath and focuses.
Sitting here in this car with you while we're being chased down by some vampire, she narrows
her eyes on me.
Vampires can't be out in the daylight, Maddie.
Yeah, I'm utter.
Tell her that.
Mom's just as scared as me now.
She's still seeing that vampire fly in after us.
She ain't got a knock other cars out of her way, not when she's got the whole open sky
to chase us down.
I gotta look in the mirror and summon Mary Worth.
I can't put it off anymore.
At least there won't be any more secrets between Mom and me.
But Mom is determined.
We've got to stop that thing somehow.
Ain't sure how, Mom.
If she's out in the daylight, who knows what else ain't gonna work on her?
Mom leans over a little.
Good thing I gasped up before coming home last night.
She wants to tell me not to wreck the car, but instead she goes with, I believe in you.
And I always will, Maddie.
You're my daughter and I love you.
No matter what.
Do you understand?
I'm all choked up now.
I guess you hear that kind of thing from your parents all the time.
Even dads told me he'll always love me no matter what.
But hearing it in this type of situation makes me want to sob again.
I never should have doubted Mom and Dad.
She's right.
They did help us out back in December.
Why didn't I remember my parents are both believers?
They know about the kinds of things we've been through.
Well, maybe not the vampire universe.
I decide to tell Mom I understand, but suddenly we get hit on the side and forced off the road.
Other cars on the freeway are honking their horns and yelling our way.
I'm trying to keep the car on the hill, but it turns on its side and slides to a stop.
Mom, are you okay?
I yell.
She nods.
Nothing's broken, Maddie.
I scream when this big hand grabs me and pulls me out of the car.
Now that thing's looking at me.
Vincent Frankenstein, my creator, was a fool to think he could ever control me.
He tried to take my life, but he could never have you.
I've finally reclaimed you as my baby.
As for Frankenstein himself, I have every intention of gaining revenge on him and his assistant for their treachery.
But not today.
Everybody I know would tell you I'm a laid back kind of person, but today I'm real mad.
He ain't my mom and you ain't ever going to be.
When this Frankenstein creature looks over my shoulder and sees mom pulling herself out of the car,
she gives me a blank look.
We'll see about that, little one.
The monster roars at mom.
I know she's scared of the thing, but she ain't running away.
I don't care no more right now.
I gotta save my mom.
Only one way I can do that.
I dig into my jacket and pull out my compact.
I'm shocked as I realize it's shattered, probably from the crash.
Then I remember the mirrors on the car and climb up.
I reach the driver's side rear view and see it's still good.
Merry worth, merry worth, merry worth.
Neither mom or that monster see the mirror glow and bright or the energies coming out of it and into me.
Soon, Merry worth my ghostly companion uses my body as her vessel.
Please save my mom, Mary.
I beg her like I never begged for anything in my life.
No harm shall befall your mother this day, Madeline.
Mary assures me.
When the monster sees Mary come and she tosses mom aside.
You!
She remembers what Mary did to her back in December, and she moves away.
You're never sending me away again.
Don't be so certain, Mary says.
You cannot be allowed to run free, not when you are far too great of a threat.
I can see everything through Mary's eyes, even though I can't do anything.
Not while Mary's using my body.
I'm surprised no cars are pulling over when they see the monster and the ghost facing off.
When the monster starts flying away, Mary quickly utters a spell.
The monster may be immune to the daylight.
Maybe other vampire weaknesses too, but she ain't immune to Mary's power of the white light.
The monster falls back to the ground.
In her frustration she tries jumping at Mary but goes right through her.
Unless there's something I don't know here, Mary's got this monster's number.
As for mom, why is she so calm?
You'd think she'd be trying to look for me.
Then I remember when mom actually talked to Mary when I brought her out back in December,
after those mirror versions of us broke into our house.
The monster gets up and sees our car, then she easily lifts it.
Mary's ready when the monster throws it.
The car stops just before hitting mom.
Then Mary finishes the spell and sends the car back to the monster.
It knocks it down and then lowers on to her.
You think this will stop me?
Ghost?
The monster yells.
Ultimately, no.
Mary tells her.
But long enough, Mary utters another spell and trances her like she did back at the mall in December.
The monster has no clue where she is now.
Then we hear sirens coming.
Mom approaches Mary.
Thank you so much for coming.
But you better get out of here.
I'll deal with the police.
Mary nods once.
Then she floats up into the sky and away from the scene.
I got a feeling I'm going to hear more about this when I see mom again later.
Later comes when mom's walking in the back door.
I move right to her.
We can't hug each other tight enough.
Mom's got tears when we come apart.
I love you, Maddie.
I love you too, mom.
I tell her.
Mom sits down at the table.
She knows dad and Ariel ain't home yet, but I know we're going to talk.
Your father and I both know about you and Mary worth.
She tells me we'd be fools not to know.
She puts her hand on my shoulder.
And it's just fine.
You were intended to be Mary's vessel.
There's so much I have to tell you, Maddie.
First of all, you're descended from the long line of witches.
But mom doesn't get to finish because dad and Ariel pull into the driveway.
When they come in and see us, they act like nothing's wrong.
Earlier, Mary restored mom's SUV and put it back on the freeway.
Guess that's better than insurance.
When dad sees the looks on our faces, it's like he knows.
You finally told Maddie?
Mom nods once.
After what happened today I had to.
I only just started telling her.
Ariel's looking at me funny.
What happened, Mouse?
When everybody's sitting, Mom tells dad and Ariel everything that happened today.
You should have seen the look on Dad's face when Mom told him I can drive a car.
Mom gave Ariel a weird look when she said she'd known for quite a while.
Long story short, Mom and Dad didn't ground me for life.
If anything, Dad was proud of me for saving Mom.
When things for sure though, things are going to be changing here in this house.
Especially since I just learned I'm a witch.
Guess it ain't going to be as simple as being a little mousey no more, huh?
Not the way trouble keeps finding us.
That's why we're going to keep coming back for more adventures.
Until next time.
Well, my spookies.
Maddie thought she was running from a monster but tonight you heard the truth.
The monster knew her name and it's not done circling back because the cruel truth about
strict field my spookies is the town doesn't end nightmares.
It files them away and lets them sit in the dark.
It lets them ferment and then when you're tired when you're busy when you're sure it's finally safe.
