Who the biggest threats to the chiefs getting their guy in the draft?

We're going to just dive right in and talk a little bit more about the NFL draft.

You saw on yesterday's main show, we did it in the NFL draft, went through seven rounds.

And in our bonus episode, we actually talked about what happened in the first round.

Now we're going to get into who are the teams that the chiefs need to worry about when

it comes to potentially being in their way of getting the guy that they want when the

draft starts and the chiefs are going to be on the clock at number nine.

Yeah.

I got to tell you, it starts and stops pretty close to the top.

I think the jets are going to do a smart for them and take a defensive impact maker.

I don't know.

Every time I say that the jets do something silly.

So maybe I'm just nuts.

The question mark is going to be, what was that question?

You think it's going to be recent?

I think it could be, I think it could go styles too.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be a guy from Ohio State.

It's about all I got after that.

I think it's where it starts to get pretty interesting about what could happen.

Yeah.

And you start looking at teams like Arizona, you look at Tennessee.

I keep seeing all the time now in mock drafts, Jeremiah love going to Tennessee, makes

a lot of sense.

And I want to be clear when I say this, I'm not comparing Jeremiah love to Derek Henry.

But think about the fact that they had Derek Henry for as long as they had Derek Henry

and he was the king of the NFL at that position.

It does not surprise me that they are being linked to another running back that a lot

of people think could be a superstar.

Yeah, as a franchise identity, certainly having that really problematic run game, that

makes a lot of sense.

And clearly, folks, it's smoke season, right?

Not just if you live in the Western United States and there's forest fires already in March

which creeps me out, but it is smoke season in the NFL everywhere.

And somebody clearly has leaked something about the Titans being interested in Jeremiah

love because it is everywhere right now.

Three days ago, I started to hear it from people that probably knew, but now it's gotten

out.

I don't know if that's real or just a complete screen, but it's interesting that at that

point, knowing that you have cam ward, I think it would be, move them to add something

else besides a running back, but that's okay.

If that's the way they go, that's a good thing for the chiefs.

As long as it doesn't turn into a situation that the one running back that's anywhere close

to a first round grade goes above the chiefs, that's a good thing for them.

Absolutely.

Maybe phenomenal for them for love to not be there on the clock when they get their pick

at number nine.

The other team, you have another team in Arizona, I think, is going to be somebody that

the chiefs need to watch.

How does this play out?

If it's Reese or Styles at two, what do the Cardinals do?

What did they look at?

When you start looking at how this is going to shake out, you kind of get a feel for how

some of these teams may probably be leaning and you're right, it could start at the top.

It definitely could.

One thing that I'm fairly confounded by is it can't be a quarterback.

He would be just like some organization like the Cardinals, who I think I actually have

a better GM than he gets credit for in Austin Fort.

He would be criminal for them to spend the number three pick on one of these secondary

quarterbacks.

Honestly, if I had to grade it out, Mendoza is not the top guy either.

If it's just purely by grade on film, he might not make the top 10.

I think I have, I think I only have eight guys with grades higher than him, but still

it's a reach.

This is coming from somebody and I have done all the quarterbacks that grades are in.

You will see them in the draft guide and they're one of the rankings that I'll drop

pre draft.

I don't even have time since the number two.

I think there's too much question there.

The kids only played 15 games and he disappeared when the going got off.

I think Garrett Nussbyer is the number two guy and I don't know that you can spend anything

above 27 on him.

And the crazy thing to me, what you just said, you don't have Mendoza as a top eight

pick with your grades.

Does that change what the Raiders would possibly do at one?

Because everybody's been saying it's Mendoza, it's Mendoza, it's Mendoza.

And that makes sense because QB is the most important position in the NFL.

And if you get that, the rest of it kind of starts to fall into place to an extent.

You still have to do well in your draft and sign the right guys to get all that.

But it's a question of, is if Mendoza doesn't go one, does it seem like the Cardinals trade

up to take Mendoza one?

Is they want to QB?

I mean, that could happen, although what I'm really getting at here is if Mendoza doesn't

go one, I would still think he's gone by three.

So it doesn't really change the math too much when it comes to Kansas City because the teams,

because all of those players would still be gone.

And Mendoza is one of those players that we've gone, which helps push somebody else down

and we're going to get into what else could happen right after this.

So before break we talking about what happens with the windows if he doesn't go one could he

I think he's gone by three.

I don't think that's going to be that big of a deal, but it does kind of shift

who the raiders could take if they go a different direction or if they trade out.

So regardless though you're looking at possibly you know for being loved then you're looking at

a couple more teams between the chiefs and their pick in the giants of the browns commanders and

saints and I could see all of those teams taking guys that the chiefs would be interested in.

That's the problem.

Yeah that is the problem.

The top of their list I want to be clear sorry.

Yeah I mean and if you look it makes it difficult anything that can push somebody else

up even if it's you know a position the chiefs could use if there's you know I see Omar Cooper

rising draft mock machines I don't know if that's real in the league it seems a little bit

artificial to me but if he were to push up into the top 10 ahead that's not a player that I think

the chiefs are going to have interest in so that helps push somebody else down but I think there's

there's a number of teams there that are going to be wild cards and I'm not convinced either

that the raiders take that pick.

The problem is they don't have an alternative they need a quarterback so that is the big problem.

You're either going to take the best guy in this class or you're going to trade out of it

in a trade that includes a quarterback and that's what I'm not sure of because honestly

you don't have wide outs there either and you're going to you're going to put that kid into

a onto a roster that's throwing to Jalen there and trade Tucker.

So let me ask this when it comes to the raiders and I know when you get back to the chiefs but

this brings up an interesting point is it possible the raiders look at this and say this is in our

quarterback that we want let's go draft somebody else let's trade out a one get another pick for

next year and try to be in the position of a loaded what looks to be a very loaded draft in 2027.

Could be I mean that that would be the alternative right if somebody's willing to trade up there

that you can get a hole I mean Kirk cousins is still available right that there's there's some

veterans that have experience that you could make a one year bridge I don't know that I don't

know that Tom Brady and spy tech are going to do that and and even if they did it would still

depend for the chiefs to reap the benefits is they would still have to trade down within the top eight

right which does seem very plausible not just with the Cardinals but who knows who else could be

willing to come up there as long as they continue to place their needs ahead but what I'm hopeful is

is that all of this talk is going to shift now as we get closer to the draft is going to come over

to the offensive side because there's more talent in my opinion on defense right now

the grades that we have and what the work that we have done but that makes the offensive side a

little bit more rare and a little bit more valuable in terms of getting the guy that you want

so could that push somebody down like Bane that has question marks I saw a lot of people

flipping out about David Bailey and falling down to the chiefs and that's great

but he's a two-point stance outside linebacker he's not a guy that Spags is going to use honestly

I think that Derek actually brought it up on his show if you look at the specs David

Bailey is very similarly built to Joshua and we know how that turned out now is he a better

past pressure in college yes so I mean it's not an Apple's Apple but it just it just proves the point

that even when some things fall to you it doesn't necessarily mean that the chiefs are going to do it

there there are people who are better connected and leaked than I am by a long shot that have

written Bane falling past the chiefs past them and that's not something that I expected a couple of

weeks ago yeah and I don't know what I believe on that I have a really hard time believing that

David go that direction and let's that type of past pressure go but at this point it's one of

those things where you have to draft who what is going to fit your style and going back to what

you said about David Bailey just a second ago what does it make sense to draft a guy like David

Bailey if Spags is going to use him you saw what he did with UJ he didn't use him and I'm not saying

he he completely wouldn't use Bailey but if he's not going to use him how you are trying to draft

him to be used there's no point yeah like you can't you can't fit a square peg in a round hole

and I hate saying that but that is the reality is if he doesn't fit your system he doesn't fit your

system and guess what you can't rebuild the system just because you're trying to get him to play

in what you want because you have two other pieces that you've built this team around it and you

already have been through free agency yeah and you it takes too many moves to do an overall like

that to switch a system and he's not the only one unfortunately there's a lot of guys that lean

towards the outside linebacker profile you're going to hear about our Mason from Oklahoma

not a Spags guy you're going to hear about the kid as a value pick from Tennessee Joseph's

not a Spags guy can't play in this system not going to do it won't see the field

it's crazy I mean there's there's lots of different things that are going to be happening

between now and when the chiefs are actually on the clock and we're going to have you covered I

cannot wait for this draft it is going to be upon us before you know it what is the craziest

before we go what is the craziest scenario that you could see with the chiefs being on the clock

at nine or somebody picking maybe a pick or two before them as it sits now obviously it looks to

me like there is a world in which a trade happens that pushes a wide receiver down to nine

that the chiefs could take and Ruben Bay was there there there there there is a world where they

have possibly their top rated or top two rated guys at two different positions that they have to

choose well in order for that to happen I would imagine that there's going to have to be an

offensive tackle or two taken before them because that's one of the positions that seems to be

rising in some people's box we'll see if that continues offensive tackle left tackle is going to be

a huge premium position going forward so definitely something that could make a lot of sense for

some teams don't see it for Kansas City at nine that is going to be it for us today be sure to check
