Well one of the things that stood out this past weekend was the play of jet clearing for the New Zealand Warriors. He's making his debut and it was interesting seeing play like it. He had about as good of a daybill as you can have for a half back and of course his defence wasn't great but no half back that they booze has good defence and it was really weird watching a dude play for another team that you know is going to join your team and probably on a fairly long term basis. But I wondered if there are teams out there in the NRL that were watching and playing were like man maybe we should put in an offer for him you know. That probably would be like it. You could get in and just throw some money at him and

2:06hope that he didn't go to panoros. How many times have we seen young halves come out and have impressive you know doesn't even matter the match but impressive debuts. Oh this kid's got something. The next contract is a big beefy one and it got like seven games under the belt. I mean we saw it with Lockle and Galvin recently. I mean I think the most iconic one and the most memorable one is Luke Brooks. Yeah he was one. You know you can it can be mistake but you know he's the brother of the best half back in the game that's pretty you know a pretty good sign and his dad's a coach that's another pretty good sign and there's a lot to like about him in terms of his pedigree so but yeah that was that was interesting to watch. He went really well and then another half back Sam Walker got that terrible

3:07sin to smother injury and looks like his season is pretty much over and he felt like he knew it as soon as it happened too and so that throws the rooster season into a bit of a spin and the roosters would come and off of their good form over the last you know a couple of months I would say and they're starting to fall back and it just you know it's really weird when you get to this point of the season and sometimes it feels like their season falls apart like the sharks right now their season feels like it's just falling apart in the worst way. Well the roosters I will say they should be pretty well placed to handle the loss of Sam Walker because Hugo Savila has been playing all year and because he's been playing at Santa he's still doing both you know ball playing yeah but it means he's also been learning how to be a better defender and when you got DCA outside you you don't need to stress too much if you're at six yeah yeah so I think he was really

4:08slow in at six and they will be pretty much fine I'm not too worried about that um the sharks you know that's the interesting thing about the sharks is it's it's their defense systems that are just completely it's like someone's hit a reverse card on them they've just gone the opposite direction to where they were a month ago yeah yeah because they were doing everything right and defense and then all of a sudden they came up again that game against the dragons and they just did nothing nothing what they had the week before yeah it's really weird to see and they just look so hopeless right now and you know you'll meet talked a couple of weeks ago about like teams that were peaking at the wrong time and we talked about the roosters and the sharks and we were like are they peaking too early and it feels like maybe they did um the sharks in particular like they look like they're gonna come into the finals and just be you know lame dark and if they run into like say the warriors or panthers by some happenstance that they get through the first week

5:13the finals and then most either of those teams lose their first game I think those teams will buzz saw through them you know especially the panthers who like they can take the shark's soul they're one of those teams where they can really mess them up you know well look the one thing that's on on the shark side is that it's very likely that in the first week they're gonna play against the cowboys yeah and what the cowboys produced on the weekend against the Tigers was the most dog ship performers I've seen for in a game of football by both sides yeah I think there was 13 scrums 14 penalties and five or six set restarts neither side was able to properly capitalize build any pressure hold on to the ball tackle properly without giving away penalty but it was just it was the most hateful thing to watch all year yeah it wasn't the first grade quality no and that

6:14game was there for the cowboys to go you know what we've been spitting and sputtering along here for a few weeks he's a game we've been going against a team that he's completely out of form they've got a few injuries and they've got nothing to play for so we can go out there let's get everything in order let's run up a score on them let's keep him as close to Nielis possible run up a score on him and get ourselves in the right frame and what they did was play themselves further out of form than anything else than they kept the Tigers in the game and they were playing for a final spot yeah that's the crazy thing like they had pressure on it because if they lost that they were going to be you know this week they're playing against camera if camera or you know camera still have the chance to make the finals at the end of last week um and they would have had this game this week because of Raiders versus cowboys that could have been a game to determine who finishes eight um so cowboys really needed to win that game and show some good form and

7:18they've not convinced me at all that they're going to be a threat no no it's they're the old team in the top eight that's in worse form than the sharks in my view and we're not actually when I was watching that game I was thinking like for this team to be finals team there's a problem with the competition yeah oh I agree because I mean just look at the the points difference on the on the ladder at the moment um the cowboys are the only team in the top eight with a negative points difference of minus 64 mainly in ninth is plus 100 Melbourne at 11th is plus 14 yeah even canabria 10th is minus 46 which is 18 points better than the cowboys and camera at 12th is only one point worse than the cowboys in points difference yet they've had three uh yeah three three wins less yeah it's terrible it's terrible and like we're about to expand the competition by three more teams over the next few years and you've got a wonder like how's that going to affect

8:20things um you'll be funnily enough talked about the final series will probably end up being the 10 team final series with the wild card um round to start it and it was funny because then it took a few days but then everyone else caught up to that idea as well so we're going to end up having a 10 team final series of some type and there's going to be some teams named final series that are just terrible and no hope like even now like it you know so I don't think seventh and eighth is ever won the grand final and I think has six one I feel like six one I think they've all they've all had a win seventh and eighth haven't won a grand final seventh I don't think has even had a team meet reached the grand final eight has yeah um but yeah they're basically I mean that's the reason why for a long time we had a top five yeah because we knew they were the genuine contenders yeah um to go to 10 uh the the bottom three or four teams in that in the in the top 10

9:27will be just making up the numbers there's no doubt about that um they'll do it because it means first and foremost and most importantly for the NRL they would have to be an extra week out of the finals to make it happen yeah there'll be a five week final series they like that um that's the only reason for it and if the other thing is to get in the all the rest of the sides a one week rest while that wild game wild card grand is happening um that's that is a positive but I like can you like do you know how hard finals for the years to win four finals games in a row is that absolute slog with the idea that to we like there are some teams that well if you win five in a row you could win it it's like that ain't happening yeah that's just not going to happen at all yeah uh it's going to be rough yeah does that means now to the team that's going to make the

10:28green final will probably have to play three games yeah and like even even even if you're the minor premier yeah there's probably going to have to be a third game added you know it'll have to be a second game in there before the green final yeah and whether people think that's a good thing or a bad thing or not that's that's open for debate but that's essentially we're going to be putting it and so if you're going to add in an extra week of finals then there's got to be a conversation where we start wondering do we start dropping the number of games we plan the regular season from 24 back to say 22 a knock a few rounds out so that we can make it all still fit in the same period and not make everyone work extra harder yeah I look I think that the season is just too long you know and I've we've both said 22 rounds 22 games that's perfect we and we know that because we've seen yeah you know 24 and people talk about like oh we need those extra games for the

11:30TV money but you can make up the extra games by having the extra teams and competition like the the TV companies are just worried about volume basically so can I can I make a point yes even argument about that because yes we know that a lot of people say that you know more more games on TV means more opportunities to make more money and logically that that plays out right but then we look at something like super league which for years had more games per season like 26 games per team yeah and then they then they had their finals and stuff and we're seeing over there that the TV rights deal for all sorts of different reasons are not issued in the game if we go to what the NFL used to have and how much they have shortened their seasons how he goes as an NFL team play before they get to the playoffs uh is it's it used to be I think it's 17 or 18 now they they added one extra game in the last few

12:35years but it used to be a lot higher didn't it uh I don't ever I've never been watching it when it was higher than say 17 okay I've a look at this if I can figure it out but I'm pretty sure they shortened the um the NFL seasons because there was too many games um and they found that if they had less games I would be able to uh you know get more value and make each game worth more and the results started to bear that because now it's making so much more money than ever before so there's a sweet spot to be found somewhere yeah and I don't think the sweet spot is more games what we currently have but does need to be we we can't go more than 24 games in a season and we'll add new more teams we need to start dragging it back yeah yeah when you get to 20 teams I mean you're looking at the point now where 20 teams everyone plays each other once there's 19 rounds right there do we need to play teams twice in the season not really but I could see a an argument

13:45where if you wanted to make go up to 22 you could say you play everyone once and then maybe you know three of your biggest rivals or we just have a you know you play three extra games and then you rotate them over time through the whole competition um you know and like in an idea world you get to a point where you're going up teams where you just play around once and then you play home in a way over the course of the two seasons you know um but yeah look I just think that the the season is way too long I think this year has shown the origin really messes up the club competition in a terrible way these days um origin needs to be condensed as well and you know we've got the scope to do it now which is good and if it costs some money maybe it's worth you know doing that because as you say at the other side of it you're going to get games at a higher quality that more people are going to tune in for um if you've got a shorter season teams are a team's are a chance to

14:49make the finals longer and there's a whole lot of positives that comes out of it and you also don't get to a point where you know we're at the end of the season now and there are teams that are losing so many quality players and it's got to be because the season's so long like it's a hard sport to play one gaming let alone as many games as they're playing let alone you know you're training eleven months of the year and you're starting the games the trial games in like February and you go through talk to over that's a fucking long season like they're not out there playing cricket no sorry and yeah we're going to start getting world cups and you're throwing tours and test matches and stuff after grand finals you're just shortening that rest period between seasons yeah yeah see I think if we were to cut it back to 20 games per team right every club gets to say right you get to pick one team that you'd like to play twice in the season who would you pick
