Hey kids, welcome to Junior's for Jesus.
0:03
Go grab your Bibles.
0:04
We're gonna be digging in
0:06
and learning some really exciting stories.
0:10
We're continuing our study of Jesus's entrance
0:15
He was delight at last.
0:17
Today we're gonna learn about the forerunner
0:21
Do you know what his name was?
0:22
Well, there's a pretty interesting story
0:24
about how he got his name.
0:26
And we'll learn that together today
0:28
after we say our memory verse.
0:29
That verse is Isaiah, chapter nine, verse six.
0:33
For unto us a child is born.
0:35
Unto us a son is given.
0:38
And the government will be upon his shoulder.
0:40
And his name will be called
0:42
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
0:45
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
0:48
Isaiah, chapter nine, verse six.
0:55
Wednesday, John is born.
0:58
Matthew 1, 18 to 25, and Luke 156 to 25.
1:04
Mary stayed with Zacharias and Elizabeth
1:08
Maybe she was there when the baby was born.
1:12
But there was a great rejoicing
1:14
when their relatives and neighbors
1:15
heard that they'd had a son in their old age.
1:20
Eight days later, when these same people
1:22
came to name the baby,
1:24
Elizabeth said that he was to be called John.
1:27
But they wanted him to call him by his father's name.
1:30
So when they asked Zacharias
1:32
when he wanted to name the baby, what happened?
1:35
Verses 59 to 64, tell us.
1:38
He was insistent that the baby's name was John.
1:41
The news about baby John spread fast
1:44
and soon people all over the part of the country
1:47
were talking about this miracle birth.
1:50
They knew that he would grow up to become
1:52
somebody very special.
1:54
They also remembered the prophecy
1:56
that the Holy Spirit had given Zacharias
1:59
about the Messiah and about John's work.
2:02
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the highest.
2:06
For you will go before the face of the Lord
2:08
to prepare his ways,
2:10
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
2:13
by the remissions of their sins
2:16
through the tender mercies of our God
2:18
with which the day springs from on high as visited us,
2:22
to give light to those who sit in darkness
2:25
and the shadow of the,
2:27
to guide our feet in the way of peace.
2:30
Mary had gone back to her home in Nazareth.
2:34
And we don't know when she told Joseph
2:36
about Gabriel's telling her that she was
2:39
to be the mother of the Messiah.
2:41
And we do know she was already pregnant,
2:44
even though she and Joseph weren't married yet.
2:47
How could he believe her story about the angel's visit?
2:51
Would other people believe her?
2:55
Joseph loved God and wanted to do God's will.
2:58
But what was God's will?
3:00
How relieved he must have been
3:02
when an angel told him in a dream exactly what to do?
3:06
He told him to go ahead with his plan to marry Mary
3:10
and to give the special baby the name Jesus.
3:14
That special baby would be born in just a few months.
3:18
The prophecy said that he would be born in Bethlehem.
3:22
And Joseph and Mary were living in Nazareth,
3:25
more than 60 miles north of Bethlehem.
3:28
But God's plan would take them there
3:30
just at the right time to fulfill the prophecy
3:34
of Micah, chapter five, verse two.
3:36
But you Bethlehem Ephraath,
3:39
though you are little among thousands of Judah,
3:42
yet out of you shall come forth to me.
3:44
The one to be a ruler in Israel
3:47
who's going forth are from, of old, from everlasting.
3:51
Now a little while before Jesus was born,
3:54
the Roman Emperor ordered people to go to the birthplaces
3:58
of their ancestors and to register their names.
4:02
King David was an ancestor of both Joseph and Mary.
4:07
And he was to be born in Bethlehem.
4:10
Therefore, they had to go to Bethlehem to register.
4:14
Luke chapter two, verses four and five read.
4:17
Joseph also went up from Galilee
4:20
out of the city of Nazareth into Judea
4:23
to the city of David,
4:24
which is called Bethlehem because he was
4:27
of the lineage of David.
4:28
To be registered with Mary,
4:30
his bithering of the wife was with child.
4:33
So now, let's apply it.
4:36
If God could so easily send Joseph and Mary
4:39
to where they should be,
4:41
don't you think he can do the same for us?
