Lions Sign D.J. Wonnum, Boosting Edge Rush

The Detroit Lions continue to raid the NFC North for talent, signing former Minnesota Vikings

defensive end DJ.

Want them to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million.

This comes after they added quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and tied in Tyler Conklin

for Minnesota in the past week.

One of them, who spent the last two seasons with the Carolina Panthers, brings needed

depth to Detroit's edge rush.

One of Miss Time early last season, due to a quad injury from his Vikings days, was

started 15 games for Carolina, recording three sacks and 42 tackles.

Over his six-year career with 86 games and 54 starts, he has 30 sacks total.

At six feet five inches and 258 pounds, he offers versatility, lining up in different spots

on the defensive line.

Fans fans are excited, but concerned about the team's thin edge rotation, which currently

lists Aiden Hutchinson first, followed by Oneum, Ahmed, Hassanin, and Tyler Lacey.

Experts see him as a solid rotational player, who can provide pressure without being a full-time

starter.

For a team with Super Bowl hopes, this signing highlights the need for more past rush help.

Oneum was a fourth round picked by the Vikings in the 2020 draft, where he made memorable

plays like a game ending sack on Aaron Rogers as they see.

He evolved into a reliable depth option, thriving in specific situations rather than

every down.

Detroit has been active in free agency, adding players like Running Back, Isaiah Pacheco,

cornerbacks Roger McCreary, and Rocky Asin, and others while, losing some depth pieces.

Oneum, who turns 29 on Halloween, should slot in as a third or fourth option on the edge

as training camp wraps up.
