Local Hero Nick Cross Joins Commanders

NFL stories making news on March 18th. The Washington commanders made a homecoming move early in

free agency by signing safety Nick Cross to bolster their secondary. Cross spent his first four

seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before hitting free agency when his rookie deal ended. At 26

years old he's thrilled to return to his roots near Land Over Maryland. Cross grew up in nearby

Heightsville and even played college ball at the University of Maryland staying close to home.

As a kid, he cheered for the commanders making this signing a dream come true for the local

product. Players rarely get to join the team they rooted for growing up and Cross called the

moments surreal during a recent TV appearance. Fans have dug up his old social media posts showing

his passion for Washington over the years. Over four years with the Colts, Cross racked up 322

tackles including 194 solo stops three and a half. Sacks, two force fumbles, five interceptions,

12 passes defended and 17 runstuffs. He now joins a solid safety group with Jeremy Rees,

Percy Butler, Juan Martin and Will Harris. The commander's secondary is coming together well
