Lynch Estate Ordered to Pay HP £920M in Autonomy Case

On March 24, London's high court has ordered the estate of late British tech mogul Mike Lynch to pay Hewlett Packard nearly 1 billion pounds.

That's 920 million pounds in compensation, costs, and interest.

It stems from HP's purchase of Lynch's software company, Autonomy, back in 2011 for over 8 billion pounds.

HP claimed Lynch inflated Autonomy's value before the deal, leading the company to write down its worth by almost 9 billion dollars just a year.

Later, a UK court ruling in 2022 back HP's side, finding Lynch had misled them in the takeover.

Lynch, once called Britain's Bill Gates, was cleared of US fraud charges earlier this year.

Tragically, he died in August, along with his 18-year-old daughter and five others when their super yacht sank off Sicily during a celebration.

Trip, the court slashed HP's original, multi-billion-dollar claim, calling it exaggerated without foundation.

It set compensation at 700 million pounds, with the rest added for extras.

Lawyers for the estate wanted to appeal the ruling, but were turned down.

HP called the decision a step toward closing the long dispute.

The Lynch family expressed disappointment and plans to take it to the court of appeal, arguing HP's own mistakes caused the damage, not Autonomy.
