Man Killed by Aggressive Dog, Owner on Trial

On March 24th, an 84-year-old man named John McColle lost his life after a vicious attack

by an ex-cell bully dog on a driveway in Warrington.

Chesher, last February 24th.

The dog, named Toretto, mauled him severely, and he passed away in hospital about a month

later.

The owner, 31-year-old Sean Garner, admits having two ex-cell bully dogs without the required

exemption certificate, but denies responsibility for.

The animal being dangerously out of control.

Police had to shoot the powerful dog nine times with a pistol and once with a shotgun

to stop the attack, while neighbors and others tried.

Unsuccessfully to pull it away, they also shot a second ex-cell bully on the property

to ensure safety.

Garner stayed away from officers at first and only turned himself in two days later.

Prosecutors described Garner as an irresponsible owner who knew the dog was aggressive from

past spites and text messages where he called it, unstable.

He failed to feed it properly, which likely made it more irritable and even planned to

breed these dogs for profit, despite the risks.

Neighbors reported the dogs were kept on a messy patio without secure barriers, contradicting

Garner's claims of a locked shed and gate.

Evidence shows the latch could easily be pod open, allowing the escape.

The trial at Liverpool Crown Court is ongoing, with experts set to testify on the dog's

behavior, as both sides present their cases on ownership and control.
