A Georgia man is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison after killing his mother
0:08
and her boyfriend, then living with their bodies inside an Atlanta apartment per week.
0:13
The man is 46-year-old Neil Russell.
0:16
The victims are his mother Henrietta Russell, and her longtime boyfriend Marvin Spencer.
0:20
The killings happen in late February 2025 in Atlanta.
0:24
Russell was convicted of murder and other charges, sentenced to two consecutive life terms
0:30
Under current sentencing rules, he will not be eligible for parole for at least 60 years.
0:35
Prosecutors say money may have played a role and pointed to what happened right after the killings.
0:40
When his mother got paid, herself security on the first, he immediately went to an ATM machine
0:48
named to her account.
0:49
That's Fulton County Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney Travis Thomas on WSB.
0:54
Family members began to worry when they could not reach Marvin Spencer.
0:58
His daughter, Maria Spencer, said March 7th was supposed to be her father's 76th birthday,
1:03
but instead it became the day she learned he was dead.
1:06
She had tried calling him for days, and when she called Henrietta Russell's phone,
1:10
Neil Russell answered.
1:12
She had never met him and felt something was wrong, so she went to the apartment
1:16
and asked for a welfare check.
1:17
When the officers spoke on the stand, they said that from outside the door,
1:21
they could smell the decomposing bodies.
1:24
Assistant District Attorney Lauren Polk,
1:26
police could not get inside right away.
1:28
And prosecutors say there was a standoff that lasted about four hours
1:32
during which Russell spoke with officers and 9-1-1.
1:35
After SWAT made entry, investigators found both victims inside.
1:40
Authorities said Henrietta Russell had been strangled, and Marvin Spencer had been stabbed.
1:44
District Attorney Funny Willis.
1:46
So he's supposed to be there to help her, but instead what he does is take her life.
1:50
Daughter Maria Spencer later described what she walked into on WSB.
1:54
I wasn't expecting the force to be what it was,
1:57
and I definitely wasn't expecting the force to be as bad as it was.
2:01
Prosecutors said the motive is still not fully clear.
2:04
They noted Russell had a history of drug use and had just left rehab around that time.
2:08
The defense pointed to a lack of DNA and fingerprint evidence during their trial.

2:38
I think I saw Bill Board of yours recently that said 20 billion one.
2:43
20 billion is an insane number.
2:44
Yeah, 20 billion recovered.
2:46
It's actually, I think, somewhere north probably closer to 22, 23 after this year.
2:50
And each year we get bigger and better and our army grows.
2:53
So the number will hopefully keep getting bigger and bigger as time goes on.
2:57
So how does someone get in contact with Morgan and Morgan?
3:00
What would I do if I got into an accident?
3:02
Probably the easiest way is dialing pound law.
3:05
That's pound 529 from your cell phone.

3:37
At the Center's Ford disease control and prevention in Atlanta,
3:40
the agency is still working to replace bullet-damaged windows
3:43
months after a deadly shooting at its headquarters,
3:46
leaving visible reminders of the attack on campus.
3:49
CDC employees raised concerns during the staff meeting
3:52
about windows that remained covered after being damaged
3:55
in a shooting more than seven months ago.
3:58
Acting Director Dr. J. Batacharya acknowledged the issue
4:02
and told the staff that repairs are a priority.
4:05
According to the Associated Press,
4:07
Batacharya said the agency is working on replacing the windows,
4:11
while another official confirmed that permanent replacement work is underway.
4:14
In a follow-up email to employees,
4:17
CDC officials said repairs began this month.
4:19
Each window must be custom-made.
4:22
Installation depends on whether and the project is on schedule.
4:26
The damage dates back to an August attack.
4:28
Authorities say a 30-year-old man identified as Patrick Joseph White
4:32
fired more than 180 rounds into the CDC campus,
4:36
about 150 windows were shattered.
4:39
Some of those rounds pierced to blast resistant glass
4:42
and sent shards and offices across the building.
4:45
Investigators say White had been first stopped by CDC security
4:49
before driving to a nearby CVS pharmacy
4:52
and opening fire toward the campus.
4:54
Police officer David Rose responded to the scene and was killed.
5:00
No CDC employees were physically hurt,
5:02
though many described their fear.
5:04
Authorities said White blamed the COVID-19 vaccine
5:08
for making him depressed in suicidal.
5:10
In the month since, some employees have expressed frustration
5:13
with the federal response.
5:14
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,
5:17
who oversees the CDC, made a brief visit to the campus
5:21
after the shooting but did not meet with staff.
5:23
Batacharya said he has asked Kennedy to approve a plan
5:27
to rename the CDC's street entrance in honor of Officer Rose
5:31
and that Kennedy agreed.
5:33
A Georgia man is arrested after police say they found him hiding
5:37
inside a refrigerator in a vacant apartment
5:39
telling officers he broke in because it was called outside.
5:42
The arrest happened in Guinnette County near Norcross
5:45
on Treehouse Parkway, northeast of Atlanta.
5:47
Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jose Quintanilla.
5:51
Officers were called to the apartment late at night
5:54
after a neighbor reported hearing banging noises
5:56
coming from a unit that was supposed to be empty.
5:59
When police arrived, they entered through an open window
6:02
and began searching room by room.
6:04
They checked closets.
6:05
They checked cabinets.
6:06
Then they moved into the kitchen.
6:08
Here, you can hear them open the fridge.
6:12
Guinnette, please show me your f***ing hands right now.
6:20
I can see his hands.
6:23
Manos, Manos en tu cabeza.
6:25
Oh, I'll have nothing.
6:30
You're under arrest.
6:34
I'm just trying to get something.
6:35
As far as sleep, Manos, hold it outside.
6:38
We got somewhere pretty asleep.
6:40
Police said he had managed to fit his entire body
6:43
into the appliance and shut the door
6:44
while officers searched the unit.
6:46
Corporal Ryan Winter Wheatle with Guinnette County Police
6:49
described the discovery as unusual,
6:51
noting that officers check anywhere
6:54
someone could hide and said the unplugged fridge
6:56
had enough space for him to get inside.
6:58
Police say the apartment was under renovation at the time.
7:01
Investigators alleged Kintaniya caused about $2,000 in damage
7:05
inside the unit, including pulling electrical wires
7:08
from newly installed sheet rock.
7:10
Kintaniya claimed he did not damage anything inside the apartment.
7:14
He now faces charges, including first degree burglary,
7:17
second degree criminal damage to property
7:19
and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
7:21
He has since bonded out of jail.
