Play me like this is the Dominique Fox Werf Show.
Welcome to the Dominique Fox Werf Show.
I'm Dominique Fox Werf.
I'm joined on a March Madness Sunday by Charlie Cravitz.
We've watched all but one of the games, right?
There's only one game left.
There are a couple of games.
There's only one game we share about.
We have a couple games left but we have we have a good idea of the of
the we actually really enjoyed this.
I love it.
We can have a tour.
I love it.
It felt like all times a little bit which is not completely fair but it did.
And then we're going to do some some NFL.
Yeah, yeah, we have slash NFL parks.
We got some Q&A at the end.
We got some March Madness superlatives but we're going to start our our superlatives
with the biggest WTF moment.
Can we agree on this one?
That it is Kansas using four fouls against St. John's in the final 13 seconds
of a tied game allowing them to matriculate the ball down the floor to then just let
the St. John's point guard go directly to the basket for a game winning right handed
lap and what will be the most forgettable buzzer beater you can imagine.
Um, so
I was as we stated on the show before I was rooting for Darren Peterson
and all the freshmen I wanted to see they were going to come to DC next
if they won and played Duke it would have been great.
So I was very disappointed as I was watching a game.
It seemed like they were just failing their way.
I just was an ugly game and it seemed like Kansas was what was losing the ugly off.
And then pop up and they are in the game and we watched the end of the game together
and we're trying to like put our heads together and figure out like the strategy which
all right, you're trying to knock two seconds.
So Kansas got to the final I guess was like 13 seconds on the clock.
Final like 13 seconds on the clock and still had four fouls to give.
And I understand at least the strategy that I assume they were going for was like we're
going to knock a couple seconds off the clock use all of our fouls.
So I appreciate the logic behind we're not going to take these fouls with us.
But it just was not strategic at all to me it felt like at first at least let them get into
whatever action they're going to go into and then foul.
So first foul was 1.8 seconds after him adding it right that seemed dumb.
The next the next foul is 1.5 seconds after that.
So I don't hate the concept of like we're going to take some time off the clock but I felt like
they could have a taken more time off the clock like let them get to mid court then foul.
B let them demonstrate what their set's going to be then foul them then you still got two
fouls to give use one more foul to get some more clock off and then whole day foul just in case.
Well that's the big one when you have a guy with a straight line and no and there's no one
at the rim and you're in a compromised position you can wrap him up if you have a foul to give
25 feet or 30 feet from the basket but it's not even just like to save it for to do it intentionally
also save it just in case like you could bump him like that there's something it just doesn't make
sense to put yourself in that position at that moment. I guess he is banking on the refs not
wanting to call like a ticky-tack foul in that situation but either way and then ultimately
they don't help off which I guess I don't understand why you don't do that because like they'll
just like froze right if you help off force a pass and then it's a longer tougher shot I guess
the assumption is you can stay in front of this guy and the layup wasn't easy it was just it was
kind of easy there's a no contact right hand he gets he's a lefty he hadn't scored yet in that game
right and here's what I think I think Bill self is the Ryan Day of College basketball
how many times are you going to give them oh this guy's a generational player and you're
going to come back with nothing nothing how many times has Bill self done that I mean he won a lot
he won I guess he had in beat right that count and Wiggins and Wiggins yeah nothing nothing
he did win that one title with the Mario miracle the banked in three of a rose it's two titles he
has twenty twenty two also well this game yeah he two titles man that's as much Dean Smith you got
to leave him alone he's a all-time great this particular game or this particular team is not a
championship caliber team no but they're not a first a first weekend exit type of team I would
think they're at least get to the second weekend but they came up against a I think they're better
too like I think things are actually better they're definitely better coached I mean Kansas is
field goal percentage over the last ten games is 350 third the country yeah they're not good not
good they're not good I have a one really good player and he was awesome can I can I apologize for
one second I need to apologize to Oshayak-Baji and Christian Brown okay from the 2022 national championship
Kansas team when they came back and beat the North Carolina team that had like 15 and a half time
the 8cd onc team that and in Mike Cheshavsky's career that's your favorite that was the
those the two favorite college by two college basketball games ever was Cheshavsky it's amazing
he didn't pick a back injury either of those games you think that that's enough to save
hubby's job or do you think he just reminds him like remember I ruined both of coach K's last
games remember keep me hebert no no they're about to try and drop the bag for Danny Hurley you
think so yeah okay next pro the best game what's your favorite game of the weekend I mean I
feel like I'm stealing from you because that we've talked about this like I think we agree the best
game is when your Commodore's loss I was I feel like of and of course we're watching all these games
as much as possible we're cutting in pieces here and there but that was one of the games that I
watched the entire time one a few games that I never felt like this is dragging and this is
growth the quality was really good Nebraska's a really big team and Vanderbilt's guards like
played fantastic it's two miles in play as well but um and we had the almost shot of the tournament
the like 60 footer that bank their rattle read out and Tanner was just fantastic the entire game
who's apparently staying in Vanderbilt the rumor is he's gonna stay for his junior year rumors yeah
well nobody's called yet the good teams are still playing they'll call them afterwards and it
feels self-smaking the call right now they'll self is certainly he just before he gets to the plane
he's calling them up but I thought that was that was the highest quality close game a couple I mean
the VCU UNC game I don't think I mean I know UNC blew a big lead but that was like the trendiest
upset pick I think more than half the brackets picked VCU because Caleb was out I want to get
back to the Nebraska game too because I think would also made it really enjoyable was not only that
it was played well but like it felt like the stakes were higher because it was like Nebraska's
in their first kind of coming off of their first tournament win I don't know the crowd was crazy
yeah that's insane that game felt intent had a level of intensity that them getting to the next round
meant a little bit more and like you mentioned the crowd wasn't saying that game felt like a real
deep not not like a tournament random game that's half full and fans from all over it just felt like
a real legitimate final where I guess like a home game for Nebraska there was nobody there
love and Vanderbilt but still I love Vanderbilt I was rooting for him I you know this program's
on the upswing I feel very confident about this entire athletic program I mean a couple other
ones Kentucky Santa Clara there was the buzzer beater from a Daffa always brother a tag AOA to
or take away to send that to overtime there was high point Wisconsin which I think we'll get into
quite a bit more because the high point yeah I feel like losing to Arkansas kind of won the weekend
all the stories out of the weekend felt like they were about high point it was like just a throwaway
story as I was watching before their game started CBS just reminded us that coach of the men's
team and the women's team are married and she came out there to watch a game like it's just
a really cool kind of story which doesn't even get into the on the core stuff but I got a
little bit of a secret from the high point game is I like a little bit of I guess it's
it's secondhand jealousy popped up for me because Terry Anderson is the best player of the
highest score on that team and it felt like this weekend that chase Johnston was like the star of
the team like number 99 the little guy that shot a lot and I felt for the guys who actually
are carried his team and I'm so I'm looking at the high point seat what he's found a way to have
compassion for I hate you never buy he saw that I wasn't compassionate it was the opposite it was like
it was jealousy it was not it was I was saying that I had a negative feeling I'm proud of my
compassion I mean Johnson hit the crazy shots down the stretch they brought some of the scores
able to take him out he was a 48% 3 points here he had not hit a two point basket on the season
he had someone from the logo they send the guy back to the bench so that chase Johnson finished
the game he bangs a bunch of threes then he has the run out first two point basket that helps the
entire season was the run out to beat Wisconsin it was cool yeah my son came in to tell me about that
and I was like damn I mean also you I'm sure you watch this highlight tape on twitter right yeah
the deep threes are always fun if you watch just his highlight tape you're like this is the best
player college basketball I got 35 footers when I'm watching until like I assume that maybe they
said this in the broadcast but I'm watching a bunch of games and like the sound is only on one
game so please if I'm telling you something that you already knew I'm sorry but everyone in us
included been talking about how NIL and transfers have changed all of this stuff so I saw this little
white kid hitting threes and I was like oh see this is classic classic little guy who's on a small
school who's been there for a long time and it's finally making his run that was his third school
and I was like damn damn I can't defend he was on dung city 2.0 I did realize that he was on
Stetson also and I was like damn it this is it's wild when you get a transfer for the Cinderella
the closest thing we had to Cinderella like their star of the tournament was a transfer that's
team you've seen so far I think it's Michigan yeah they were so fun Michigan and Arizona
yeah really good I mean they're also like they're kind of like Roy Williams type teams that
they're so physical and they have like NBA front lines and they just beat the crap out of you
physically and like obviously there's NBA talent I'm not saying it's just that but like
do you look at those teams I get these look like the two best teams in the country I tried to
convite confiding you and one of our producers that I found myself rooting for Michigan and you
guys judge me relentlessly I'm sorry I can't be honest with you no you can yeah and then we were
honest if you back I didn't mean to you know how it happens when you're watching the game you find
that you like feel good when a shot goes in and I was like oh my gosh Dominic chocks worth
that's good I like that I might change my name I don't know they were just so I don't know what it
is about them in that moment I was rooting for them to not get upset I didn't want them out
I'm sorry you're judging me man I don't appreciate no it's okay it's I've just have I
I have rooted against all the best teams in the sternum and the most part they were playing on
what's his name right cream Abdul Jabbar yeah that's a huge part of the Robbie of healing and milk
Chamberlain Larry nerd Larry nerd yeah he's fun to watch it all he's incredible plays I mean I was
gonna say he's done but I mean probably he probably can I like a figure out petition somewhere get
back in there at least at least like four more years and get them goggles he ain't gonna play an
NBA get them goggles back out there get some run come play Vandy he looked it looked really bad
when he was playing in the post trying to play defense in the post Amara yeah put the ball
over his head at 70 and he spent and he spun around yeah yeah it was rough I mean he had two
fouls at that point too and it's like he's already athletically deficient to play against the 7-3
like NBA size per six inches tall and then and then he can't be physical whatsoever bang on him
so it's that's tough do you have a favorite player so far in the sternum yeah I I think a cuff
is my favorite really really that's like I've enjoyed that's against your like whole ethos though
that I've enjoyed watching the most I really enjoy watching I'm so I'm actually surprised by that
just because like I I'm not even I'm not even being a troll just because like your ethos of like
watching basketball sometimes if you watch guards who like don't try on the defensive end it's like
you judge them a lot yeah and a cuff even down the stretch against high point was not really playing
defense and I obviously he's the he's probably the best shotmaker in the entire tournament and like
has it's like it's crazy what he's able to do with the ball and how he reads the game but it's
like I'm just surprised because these are normally the guys that you rebel against you're like no
not this guy you gotta play both ways I'm learning something or learning more about myself or
maybe I'm changing I gotta be honest I told you before the tournament started that I'm most excited
about watching these freshmen play that's the thing that I'm excited about is watching these
freshmen play one of them over delivered offensively at least and it was a cup he was hitting big
shots and big moments and I love that he was my favorite player of the tournament to watch and
part because I came in wanting to see him ball out and he also went ahead and balled out I think
there was some surprise like I got to meet my namesake Dominique Daniels I enjoy watching him from
Cal was Cal Baptist I enjoy watching him he also wrong sport guy wrong we'll get there don't
don't sport we can do that now I gotta get mine who's my who's my favorite player to watch
of this okay okay from Andy yeah former former Cornell team manager yeah I mean we had best
story as a um went okay okay like I think for people who don't know the story like it's uh
pretty inspiring story like as a team manager for Cornell worked his way all the way up to be like
the any hit the biggest shot of vandys um season in that game uh that what he tied it up before
they went back down and throw nasty Nebraska went back down and retook the lead he had a big three
and it wasn't like the first look on it but yeah he was awesome he's a fun story you didn't want
me to get into mine well you do it now most like most most this is the first thing I texted you
and I saw Cal map display um most likely to play in the NFL because you watch this tournament
we're football guys yeah at some point you know but you picked the wrong sport you're getting
another chance yeah I mean okay okay got tied in shoulders like yeah he's really a better
blocker than Stowers the Vanderbilt Titan anyway he's free Catholic yeah he looked like he's
six inch vertical first hours oh hi this is the common history oh yeah I think okay okay
making but already said six seven two fifty the size thing jumps out and so like he's he's six seven
so maybe it's fine to choose basketball this is why I went with Dominic Daniels it's like
he's explosive as hell the second I saw like a double clutch lap yeah I was like it is smaller
it's like I know he played at Cal Baptist but he must be from California he from up north
the way he's not from the self they wouldn't let him get out to get out of the self when I'm like
being a a slot receiver a skat back or something I was about to say he looks like Deuce Vaughan
on a basketball court he would not look like him on a football field like true yeah let's sit
five ten it's like okay maybe he's five eight and a half or five nine he'd still look like
like a lot of running backs look normal on a football field and then as the obvious one you already
mentioned oh wait like his brother's playing football yeah Kentucky right now he could probably
Otago away uh is six four two hundred twenty one pounds with the six nine wingspan we could
put twenty on him easy he could come off that is he might actually get a shot of the NBA if he
wants one no taking the NBA but yeah well take that first take that first yeah yeah you can always
come back to the safety net that is oh safety and NFL is probably not the word I want to use
yeah but I mean if you can make it in in the NBA it's mean the key declared for the draft
last year and then pulled out of it and he is he is 23 years old or will be bedtime of the draft
but like so it's not like it's a lock but he should have at least a shot to make an NBA roster but he
you look at his building like yeah you could you could you could have a shot on an NFL roster if you
wanted to what was your biggest disappointment of the weekend well so this one's tough for me
because it was also my favorite thing to watch the weekend and that was just the deficiencies of
Cameron Booser exposed because I didn't I did not realize I had it in me still to hate Duke as much
as I do but I was started watching them again and then every single commercial it's just
Caden and Cam Booser and then Caden Boosers got Duke face and then Cameron Boosers going like
two for ten in the announcement that's our national player in the year and I was like these
overhyped Duke Blue Devils it's not their fault it's not it's not Cameron and Caden Boosers fault
but they are drawing the most of my eye or because Cameron Boosers is going to be a national
player in the year and this Duke team is not that good they're not that good ever games tight
and if you look at the stats Cameron Boosers is a great season they look at him and I just see
you're not that guy pal yeah I mean well you kind of are that guy because you're driving me nuts
yeah yeah he's he's doing exactly what he's supposed to do as a Duke player like it
Cameron Boosers he might have more Duke face than Cameron Boosers yeah but he's not as talented so
it's like it's fine it's a short it's hard it's harder to like build up the resentment for him
because it's like yeah I mean he just started playing a lot like towards the end of the season he
wouldn't even get in minutes um I feel like my biggest disappointment we already talked about how
I wanted to freshman to play well is like be by you as out I mean I guess we throw Kansas on
there but like they're out yeah but I mean I the defensive part like he played well and I was
excited to watch him keep going but they got ousted that was like the biggest disappointment for
me because now I just got a cuff it's all I got left is Darius and and um in Arkansas rest up AJ
you know we're gonna need you next Alex Arnithy Davis next season he's going to the jazz
he's going to talk I we can't let that happen he win he won he's like the NBA is frozen envelope
or whatever like the man why else then he did he go to Utah like who he's he like Jersey right
he's from Jersey yeah he's in Brockton Massachusetts from Massachusetts from Massachusetts so he went
from Massachusetts from Boston to to Salt Lake City I guess he's staying I mean
we'll welcome you into DC um do you think BYU regrets paying him eight million dollars for
the other ones of course how can they not you think that they decided to pay eight million dollars
and thought that one year and and out is enough no I thought you were they're paying to be
associated with him that's I thought you're gonna say they weren't gonna regret it because they'd
be associated with someone who's gonna be like a first team all NBA player in four years like oh look
we're producing like that's fair dental MVP's well then it's too early to ask that question
and because I you were supposed to say that now it's supposed to say they lost in the first round
you flipped it on me oh no no no I was no you pay eight million dollars you want to get out of
the first row yeah I can't believe that you just got so flustered by me answering opposite of what
you expected you thought I was gonna say that that eight million dollars was worth it I don't know
yeah I kind of did I read you wrong on that one I thought you're gonna be like to be associated
with the player that great for future players and you can recruit for because of this no I think
that when you pay eight million dollars for a player you are anticipating getting to the sweet 16
maybe the elite before no I'm saying I'm working my way up maybe the elite eight and possibly to
find a four and then you expect the residual rewards from being associated with them I think they
look back which I guess they're not Duke but they like look back at last year like like I paid a
bunch they went deep and they blew a nine point lead in a minute and a half right but now they got
a deep run and they're associated with them but not that's that's not enough for that much money
yeah I mean like it's uh I agree I just I was just surprised by the take and he was the best
plenty of college basketball this year he's certainly the best player watch this weekend
it there I mean at 36 in that game I know like they were sort of egging him on to shoot in the first
half and that was part of it because no one else could really score but like he is certainly the most
was the most impressive like on court player we've seen is are you pissed that Texas is Texas our
lowest seat to advance like is that our Cinderella well that's our biggest school yeah that is the
lowest seat to advance since I can take a certain extra prize biggest surprise none there are no
there were no real surprises uh yeah I we kind of foreshadowed this and like it's not like we
are a suit savers it's like lots of people are putting it out there in the history and and how
it's all gone down fewer and fewer I expected to be bothered by it and I be completely honest with
you I used to be on the big Bumani Jones school of like get these bad teams out of here but then I
realized that I like I like one Cinderella it's nice to have one or two make a run however I expected
to be bothered by this weekend not having people make not not having Cinderella's make it and
I just watched a lot of basketball I really liked it and I didn't I only like disappointed by it
at all yeah I mean the tournament's fun but not having Cinderella is a bummer like you know Texas
is basketball team spent 22 million dollars on the roster and that's not exactly like an underdog
and it's spent like $200,000 less than Arizona and it's not fun that Cinderella's I'm not doing
this just complain it's just we Cinderella's her phone when they come out of nowhere not when they're
in underachieving yeah no no I was being sarcastic saying that Texas is a Cinderella but that's
what they kind they kind of are of this thing which is crazy but I feel like the Cinderella part is
come is a combination of like being a small school and being like not very heralded like you can't be
Texas Cinderella yeah it just doesn't work they maybe they aren't really a blue bud in basketball
but there is close to it as you can without actually being it they got your favorite play of all
time they're associated with him at Tristan Thompson K.D. I know I know I know I know you knew I was
making sure everyone else got the joke oh K.D. Ford uh uh what's the guy uh PJ Brown
nope not PJ Brown PJ Tucker that's there it is PJ Tucker that's the one I know basketball
Mark is all during PJ Tucker DJ Augustine what a team showing off oh I know a lot of names I
can say anything that's my error that's my error of college basketball of Pete college basketball
fan I'm sorry I was that's moment in the first week and you were
but you're thinking of you don't say it out loud that's the bad part
it's hard word for word what you were thinking no it was worse what I was gonna say was worse
when I was like no I've got to hold that it's still on it it waits well after this I'll tell you
but nope now you've given Brian Moore to edit congratulations and I mean I think we can all
use our imagination best moment of the weekend my best moment of the my best moment of the weekend
was when we had a listener introduce us to your doppelganger from Purdue Jack Benter and my best
moment in the game was watching Jack Benter get on the court and I can see my buddy Charlie
Kravitz the man of many doppelgangers out there ball you ain't get no points in the last game no
I mean like I've got I've gotten everyone from Thurman Merman chunk chunk from the goonies
Spencer Pratt now Jack Benter I got to dop in every reality show there were a lot of good moments in
his tournament though like I mean I felt like the most your best moment I mean I think the chase Johnson
run out was obviously that we talked about it a little bit the first two but my favorite was
listening to Ty Nichols voice for the first time for Vanderbilt I'm gonna play it for you if you're
watching this please close your eyes and I want you to imagine if you don't know what tie looks
like imagine tie and this is yeah if you're watching youtube as it's how he said close your eyes
and this is for the idealist here's the best it's fun to be the villain too when I'm saying so
we know that the whole gym is gonna be against us and any call we get they go hate it any call
they get the whole crowd go explode and it little stuff like that but you know it just makes it
more fun he also might be one of my doppelgangers yeah I mean yeah you kind of are it's not by
voice though no he he sounds a lot more like Marcus spears than he sounds like you despite the fact
that he looks like you shout out Harrisonburg Virginia yeah um that was a good moment I mean
off his voice it reminded me of uh Kenny Kenny Blakeney the coach of power like it was
cool moment it's a great coach yeah I mean he was he used to play a Duke which we forgive him but
he went to the math at two so he's a local guy um and just listening to the way the players talked
about him afterwards it was it was one of those moments where you started like it sucked into the whole
college sports because the players are just talking about how good a man he is and how he cares about
him sets good example also do you see I'm sure the clip of Brenda frees the Maryland coach getting
in her best players face that was yeah I like that to the guy go terps that's all we got as far
as prize mr. me and me and deck watched him play UNC because the man's team didn't make the tournament
that's all we had to watch Kenny Blakeney was an assistant coach from 1995 to 2019 and he went his
journey which I came from James Madison Lasal Delaware Seton Hall Delaware Marshall Harvard
Columbia before Howard he's an awesome basketball coach so seeing him have success and seeing him play
Duke that close was was legitimately cool yeah um and that is our tournament roundup
that was fun I liked it that was great we did a great job if you many people are saying we're a
college basketball podcasting I mean the best thing about college basketball is everyone who's
watching and listening it is they just learned about all these people we all dove in together
it was a lot of fun I think we did watch more college this year than in years past just
as a freshman we're such a big part of the storyline I loved it I mean I guess do we need to spend
any time on what our producer is getting my year on what high point stadium looks like and the
high point campus that ruins it a little bit but yeah because I when I see these Cinderella's like
high point I'm like I imagine that they are like Sharon shoes and playing basketball on a half
court and practice it just makes it more fun but high point they got a palace right it's beautiful
it's like marble floor coming into this college basketball stadium that looks like as nice as the
chase center it is and then obviously if you posted that they have someone like the nicest amenities
of any high point which is North Carolina some of the nicest amenities in any school in the country
so you know maybe they'll be back if you're looking to bring a little celebration into every day

in other terms apply all right it's time for a new segment we're going to name it at some point
all right let's name it but right now it's just called Q&A all right with that many coxers
all right cool I'll ask you a bunch of questions taking wherever you want first one news
around the internet NFL players faced off against team USA flag footballs in the fanatic
for the fanatics flag football classic on Saturday it was a round robin team USA
and two teams of NFL stars pass and present plus the hangars on Drusky Logan Paul I show speed
who somehow are everywhere and over their three games against team USA they won by a combined score
of 106 to 47 after the games NFL players admitted that their schemes and understanding
was way behind and that certain types of players wouldn't work in flag football which was
Luke Keekley talking about himself and Von Miller team USA's quarterback who we all made fun
up for saying he was a better flag football quarterback than Patrick Mahomes was tier it was like
tearing up afterwards and was like I just like my quotes got taken out of context before I know
Patrick Mahomes is like a way better quarterback I was just talking about in flag football right now
it's actually it was kind of cool like they didn't even play quarterback like that much which was
like funny which I mean it speaks to like when we first heard about like the Olympics we're going
to have flag football we started talking about NFL players in there and like when we had a conversation
I like remember saying like yeah enough up layers of better athletes but like being the championship
flag football coach that I am like I recognize that it'd be hard for them as far as the rules are
concerned just making the transition and the funny thing watching them play as a reminder that
football because the table stakes is like massive strength and physicalities we do not even compute
it until you see them on the field with these flag football guys and you're like oh all our guys are
too big and too strong like you have no use for it they got penalized it's all on YouTube so I
watch some of it on YouTube afterwards they gave up so many penalties because they just kept running
through the flag football guys like you have to stop doing that and like the the quickness
to short area quickness and flexibility and understand the wrong thing that the flag guys were doing
where they just like ended up juking out like the key clean those guys where I just hip dropping
through them and yeah and yeah I mean it's that like pulling the flag takes practice and like
skills so like it's not super interesting but like I'm not surprised that they would struggle in
that setting. Team USA's coach pointed out that NFL players will catch up if the right group are
and if they actually like spend months focusing on this and actually training and you know Tom Brady
said that he said that the reads in the ski it's like it's actually faster to process than the NFL
which has much smaller fields and things like that it's the stakes together different but he's
just talking about like when guys get open he's like the flag guys know these quick breaking routes
when the guys are going to open how to move the ball around. Team USA's coach did also point
out that he thought that Odell Beckham right now could make the flag football team and he had the
insane one hand to catch up with Jayden Daniels pass who also look actually quite good at flag football
not shockingly playing in that two quarterback thing does this change anything of who you think
will or should represent team USA in the Olympics in 2028. No I mean I the thing is
I think team USA like the team USA players are actually going to be a better team but I still think
it'd be cool to have NFL guys out there like I this is see now you this is where no no I just think
do you think there's a world over the team USA guys they don't make the team they because you can't
like kind of like adopt different nationality sometimes they'll like they'll go like play for like
I don't know like I mean I great for it and then beat the NFL we just saw the world baseball
classic where it was a bunch of like American born and raised players playing for different countries
so I think you just have to like get citizenship or you can I think it's not very difficult
but that would be fun at least there might be some competition I don't imagine that there's a lot
of I know Mexico plays a lot of flag football I'm not sure that we got Japan has a serious flag
football culture but I still don't think that we're going to face a lot of challenges but I know
I know what you wonder you want to draft I do want to build our squad so can I would position I
know that you've spent a lot because this is right of your I built two teams but I'll let you
build a team I built a team of current NFL players on it and I built an all-time flag football team
is seven on seven correct I was thinking five on five but we can go seven on seven oh is it five
on five and not seven on seven no it's five on five well I I put seven on okay we can go seven on
we can go seven on I mean where are you starting my backfield it's I like that two quarterback
thing but Joe Barrow who got tackled a bunch and his pants came down on one and he got leveled
on a throwback pass you're out so my backfield is Lamar and Jaden and then I took a player that I
don't think that you will have thought of but he's the first guy I thought of as a dominant flag football
player come on T-Turpent of the current NFL players hands down as the first guy I thought of he'd
be great I think I mean so what we're thinking of I think is slot receivers like short air
short air quickness guys who can catch they could play DB they could play receiver I think you
build your whole team like that I push back on the two quarterback system is like I do both run
like four threes right I get it I get it but can they both run routes because like I saw the
you don't have to have a double backfield like you can have a receiver that that occasionally
runs routes and then occasionally steps back like and catches the ball that's what the team USA team
did a bunch and a receiver that also played quarterback would work or I think the quarterback like
then when we first started talking about this we said like Kyler Murray was the guy yeah like the
quarterback I would assume they just need to be like super quick and right yeah and will like
his is Kyler at this point quicker than Lamar and Jaden else yeah I mean I don't know I guess maybe
not but I it's so hard it's hard to tell but I that's the guy that I thought of because yeah I
thought his quickness his arm strength and accuracy is incredible I would have liked him in that
system and also thinking you probably run routes that's the problem with like Jaden and like the bigger
guys is like I don't know I'm I need to run some routes yeah we've already spent way too much time
taking this can give you the rest of my team of the current guys please do uh Jemeer Gibbs yeah
Zay flowers yeah uh and then I Jefferson and Chase because Chase is so ridiculously quick yeah
I like Chase and then my off the bench guys Travis Hunter or I think we'd better flag football the real football
yeah Travis Hunter is incredible Chase the are you worried at all about the two-way nature of it
like this is this is sport he gets no it was at him I was when you said Jefferson and Chase it's
like yeah I mean like it Julie the element could play defensive back in the Super Bowl
because the Jamar chase can figure out a play inside linebacker and I'm sorry for pushing back
at all do you wish your second team all-time team this is my all-time rattle through it Michael
Vick and Alan Iverson in our quarterbacks look at Alan Iverson is he's the greatest high school
quarterback in Virginia history for all other than Ronald Curry no you look we're representing
the 757 new all the junior air super news is uh is is playing quarterback in this uh then we got
Devon Hester okay tiger kill Deon Sanders Dante Hall and Reggie Bush yeah I can't
can't argue with that that team would be sick
I mean Alan Iverson is just he's the he's the first pick I know I know he's a great
high school quarterback however the idea that the history of all NFL quarterbacks to that play
football to play flag football that's you think it's Iverson okay I don't think I know
okay next question also if I thought of the three people the first three people I thought
of for this were Iverson Devin Hester and Tiger Kill and then Dante Hall and who oh Tiger
Kill yeah I thought he said Tiger Kill no Tiger King Tiger King last thing on this one did you
see the videos of old man Tom Brady avoiding the press Russia throwing some dots and like
actually putting up good numbers in this yeah do you think he could be an effective starting
quarterback in the NFL right now with a good offensive line yeah I mean he's 48 years old yeah
and the thing is like what do you win a Super Bowl probably not when they make a deep run
in play I was probably not but like he was on the Seattle team with they won the Super Bowl
if they dropped him into the Super Bowl it's hard to imagine that things would have gone
much different than they did yeah like if you protect him he could throw the football that's
only a question is right yeah we've gone to a place where no quarterbacks where it feels like no
quarterback is without mobility so he doesn't have the mobility but yeah he can still throw the hell
out of the ball that was impressive throw but yeah why would he he's a sicko yeah he loves football
that's only a reason why he was posting shirtless selfies of him throwing to get ready for this event
like throwing routes with Gronk and Edelman you uh yeah true ski in them I shall speak
great athlete yeah no football not his thing no no yeah not his thing just you can do like 500
backflips around not questioning his athletic oh yeah good man not even questioning Logan Paul's
athletic stuff all the stuff he does in WWE but there's levels to this yeah it was fun watching
them out there but yeah the the best part of it was when I was watching it it's how and it's
just football players are wired this way how much they care like I'm watching um sake one argue
with the referees in the first like 10 minutes of the game it's just you're gonna make a joke go
ahead make it whatever I see it in your eyes no I'm just thinking like sake one it's not the bill
for flag football that's all everybody's definitely not you ran our queue about this guys you ran
through so many people kept getting penalized it was confused about it yell at the graph like
sake one if they're standing still you have to go around and say come on it's not like the NFL
you can't just run through next topic this one is actually a question submitted by one of our
listeners Frankie Nayfinger or Nayfinger I missed my name long time he's messing me up on this is a
great question what up Frankie love Frankie you and Dominique talk about too much legislation in sports
and how um or how there's too much legislation in sports and how maybe it solves a problem but
but it never makes problems go away owners and teams just use new rules to find another angle to
exploit y'all might benefit from putting a term uh to it like the cobra effect the cobra effect
originates from when the british government in deli india offered a reward for dead cobra snakes
to reduce their population citizens began breeding snakes to sell and when the bounty was cancelled
they released the now worthless snakes worsening the initial problem does this does this
phenomenon explain most of the issues facing professional sports currently in business school we
talked about this cobra effect so it's like a uh an economics like theory essentially I'm not
theory but I guess yeah I mean I guess theory that um applies to a bunch of things but yeah it's
when you are trying to have a desired outcome but you incentivize people to do the opposite of
what you want like it's a perfect example so yeah I appreciate I like we have smart um listeners
and viewers to send us stuff so yeah we got to start using cobra effect because it happens
all the damn 65 game rule second apron uh I mean they're I mean I'm not just
tanking I think the whole tanking thing is a cobra effect where like the point is we want to reward
we want to uh make the worst teams get better faster right like that seems like good
honest socialism way to build this team that's fine but like no actually what you've done is incentivize
people to lose and they go and they breed cobras is what they're doing I like it because now we can
call people cobra breeders I mean it's it's three true throughout three true outcomes in baseball
it's great you know there's a there's a bunch of um I don't have one for the NFL yet but I'm
sure there's we'll start getting Frankie yeah shout out to Frankie thank you Frankie somebody's
got to be Frankie is our number one um show contributor Frankie's now at the top of leaderboard
and seriously oh nah what about ice cream oh yeah we got to go see shout out shout out to
Sunday's best we got to go see Virginia breach ice cream Sunday's best he's gonna agree
through about Iverson of course he will he's from Virginia from Virginia Beach now but he got he
has sense he's gonna say that no there probably is they say it's Ronald Curry yeah at least he
played football he played in NFL he's a Percy Harvin Ronald Curry would be great he did he
played receiver too yeah but then technically he's tear it's tough at this point what so uh Chuck
could do it now you think that never mind psycho on our episode that aired on uh February 27 oh
good you spoke about how uh you like when GM's don't fall into group think and do something different
even if it doesn't work out at the time you reference Terry font no Nico Harris as examples
we we reference the same thought process as being essential to free agency last Tuesday again
Nico's reference well it's been noted that since the initial comment Luca Donchich and the
Lakers are 12 and one and Lucas averaging over 35 points per game on the on the best efficiency of
his career two part question one would you like to retract your initial statement and two do you
feel responsible for Lucas offensive explosion and would you like to be on uh like an Instagram
reel like you were after the Steph Curry championship if the Lakers somehow went it all I would love to
add um the Lakers and Luca to my um my dunked on reel which includes Steph Curry right now
no like anyone with any sense recognized what I'm saying you're the only one that's
trying to characterize it as me saying that I think Nico Harrison did the right thing I'm just saying
that I like when people take risks that's all like we should I use a different example that one's
too um too easy for you to dunk on of course of course I take no credit for Luca going off I don't
think he heard me say that and went all you just wanted to bring this back up to fight with me
that's all I just been counting the points that you said that every is like I got 60 again
and I've enjoyed it like it's fun I'm not anti-Luca I love when he talked to the crowd
of the best yeah oh yeah when he starts talking to crowd when Braun Instagram the fan yeah it's
pretty incredible um what's the uh the GM for the Texans uh Nickas area there we go I'll start
using him because he went and got uh will Anderson will Anderson and we all are like you're stupid
why are you getting will Anderson when you're gonna need that pick to get another quarterback next
Caleb Williams you know that's Caleb yeah so it was it worked out perfectly well
the will Anderson will Anderson part made out worked out perfectly so I'll use that because that
was an unpopular decision that is proven to make them the best defense we've seen in a long time
so there we go Nick Casario I wanted to say Charlie Casterley I knew that was wrong I knew that was
from like a long time ago we love Nickas area though because we love how he built that defense
uh we love yeah we do love how good that defense and and you love that you know his style is just
find as many as possible um all right last one um uh UTSA their kicker at their pro day
jaffer Murphy ran a four five in his 70 yard field goal given how valuable kickers have become
and how field position has become almost a given in the NFL what's the highest you would draft a
kicker and if you had a kicker that ran a four five you should this guy's jacked he's like looks like
an actual athlete um would you run a lot more fakes given how aggressive coaches are on fourth and
short no and I mean this is like the extreme version of the running back question right is like
getting a kicker on a team that stinks I mean I guess maybe you could argue that I think it would be
a team of instincts he may be like I was thinking like a fourth round pick right I know but I'm
I'm saying that um right it's not like high and it's not that's not geneticous we're not taking
them like 20 that was wild yeah I honestly I think that the the numbers were probably bear out that
is it's a less significant contribution than you think it is and I guess with the longer kicks that
what we're talking about for field goals made is five to seven yards my guess is the
the impact on actual team like the average kicker is in recent years is probably
above 75 percent on 50 plus yarders will be my guess so I'm assuming that this guy wouldn't
add that much more I don't I don't think it's that I don't think it's as valuable as um
as we would think I don't even know if he's that good of a kicker right he just bombs one yeah yeah he
he only made one extra point this season I don't know if he was like a kickoff specialist right but I
mean he gave us a chance to have the question it's also like it's also like we you know teams like
what what would you pay Brandon Aubrey what's he worth on the open market and it's like okay well
now imagine somebody's hitting field goals six yards further than Brandon Aubrey and if you got to
fourth and one you could potentially run an option with it because your quarterbacks guys the
holder and it's like he's you know just got so I bastard David Montgomery I definitely would not
be right to fix with him like I I don't give a 90 I don't give a big or fast he is if you're not
used to get hit I would not expose my kicker to get a hit any more times than I ever wanted to
with my original kicker like him being bigger and faster would not entice me to use him that way
especially if I'm drafting because of the value that he offers kicking field goals no you go kick
these field goals and if there's a breakdown we got to go fire then let's see that speed but otherwise
nah shout out Sean Taylor oh that's when when kickers or punches run oh well yeah he that was great
former late for former college soccer player from Drake in Florida golf coast oh transfer
everywhere all right are we done now yeah no we're because we're taping this during kind of
see Virginia I've never gotten over my ACC bias against Virginia as a Turk whenever I see them
sorry to your boogie Chris Long but he kidding I just I texted just right state and all
caps during the first round game yeah you know this about me that nothing brings me more joy
than the sadness of my friends watching their favorites for it to support sadness yeah
you know I appreciate the initial sadness but this conversation started because you want
sustained sadness like I'm fine with a team losing and I can laugh at my friends like Vanderbilt
lost I didn't laugh at you but I could laugh at you yeah you want to laugh you want your friends
team to get relegated to division two basketball and you think that's funny like that's just
me I am a washing commanders washing to the wizards which means you should understand you should
understand you say you don't belong down here which you tried to send people below where your
teams are it's all you need to feel what I felt no you don't you need to feel I'm
anybody I pick myself up by my boots you have no this goes back to our other conversation at
Super Bowl which I know pissed you off about the minimalist but you have no you have no compassion
is ridiculous like I'm fine with dominating a team beating them blow them out I'm fine with some
bad things happening my friends and making fun of but I like sustained mean sadness that's where you
get joy I'm gonna tell you yeah I'm gonna bring the audience on this Dominic has been around multiple
mentalists like those the mentalists and this other like there were two mentalists yeah at this
party yeah in San Francisco there was like a small party in them two mentalists were like walking
around as entertainment like doing little mentalist tricks amongst groups of five and six people at
this party so I asked Dominic did you try and stump the mentalist because that is the goal of this
they could suppose they claim they can read your mind and figure out by your cues or whatever
and know exactly the right down in your car when you turn around and he said no I tried to make it
easy on him so he wasn't embarrassed that's not what they asked you to think of any basketball player
no you were around Michael Jordan he said any celebrity and I used Michael Jordan and he did
several tricks on me and all I'm I just played as straight it's not like I was giving him a layup
and when we had O's when we did the thing with O's like I wasn't trying to stump him you I'm fine
like if you want to go after so at this party you called him discount mentalist which is fair
we're at the party they're going around and working the room that people are enjoying this and
are entertained by it what am I what do I get out of embarrassing if then I'm the man and look at
everybody I stumped a mentalist yay like the people are enjoying it they thought it was cool they were
kidding did you want did you want like receivers to jog when they're guarding you this you want
Randy mosque and you're like it would be like hey actually I'm going to take an easy on you Fox
for if you can't handle it if he's a discount how's he going to be O's the mentalist if people are
just taking it easy on him really would appreciate it really would appreciate it ready would
take it in like but that's not the point you don't need I wasn't he don't need to patronize him
for mentalist he was doing they did like 20 tricks around the room they were doing lots of tricks
I wasn't patronizing him I just didn't try to stump him you were like you should have picked some
obscure twelfth man on the bench from the 82 team like what do I get I told you to pick like Tom
Coverdale from Indiana basketball I just I didn't feel bad for him I just didn't see the goal you
were upset at me because I wasn't trying to stop at the goal to stump the mentalist no it's not
when you are at a party and people are enjoying the party it's like it's it wreaks of desperation so
like imagine an actual situation yeah if I stumped the mentalist I'm a mentalist now they're what
I'm a mentalist then I throw my hands at everybody I got a yeah then you look to the you looked
ever you're I'm a mentalist I know what you're thinking and you're talking and you're thinking
well I know what I audience is thinking they're thinking you are I mean no I actually I actually
think I'm in I'm just the last thing I'll put on this is like of all of the like weird things I've
said wanting to stuff a mentalist I think it's really low on my list I think that's fair I
don't I I get the impulse but I guess then think it which I thought that I was going to get you
off of it when I said after you stump him then what like you don't get anything from it you just
embarrassed this poor man who's trying to make a buck mentalizing at a stupid superhero party like
I got going for me in life I'm not looking to make my night by embarrassing some old man with
those door tricks if it's us we had ozone I was I was making it hard from what's it trying to trick
them like it feels no because even the MGM mentalist I got I mean I'm not worried about I actually
I think I got it from my mom she told me a story one time where she was in Vegas and they pulled
her up on stage to be hypnotized and she said that she played along until the man told her to
sit on somebody's lap she was like I'm not hypnotized it walked off stage see that rules yeah
but I was saying well I guess yeah she yeah she she played a lot she didn't play along like what
you wanted me to do so she might be disappointed but I didn't stump the mentalist yeah I mean
at least give it like a good effort good fit he said any celebrity I said Michael Jordan
he like got the last four digits of my phone number I don't know how he did it he did a bunch of
tricks he did a bunch of things it was impressive how I'm how creepy it's that magician what magician
oh yeah right they were at a show in Vegas and I guess it was like there was a bunch of people
on stage and I guess you tell people to do different things in it and essentially what they're
doing is not hypnotizing people but the people leave the stage when they no longer do the thing
so it's just like who's like gullible enough yeah and she made it to the end and then he was like
sit on this person's lap she's like nah I'm good my husband's in the audience we don't we don't
play like that you're I'm like I'm like dude yeah and he was like do it do it and she was like I'm
not hypnotized right it walked off stage for a pal for me do it do it now all right that was fun
it's great a lot of editing you said a lot of crazy stuff good show no check all right we're out
thanks a lot Johnny thanks all great producers I love you probably we out this is the Dominique Fox
word show from 30 for 30 podcasts
