Well, one of Australia's most beloved entertainers, Maria Venuti, has spent decades dazzling audiences
0:07
as a singer, actress, cabaret performer and of course much love TV personality.
0:12
She's appeared in everything from stage shows to hit films, including the hilarious Fat
0:19
But in 2016, Maria faced the fight of her life.
0:22
She suffered a devastating stroke following an intruder incident at her Sydney home.
0:28
The old deal left her in a coma and was life altering but true to form.
0:33
This showbeer's powerhouse refused to give up and now still full of sparkle and spirit,
0:39
Maria celebrating an incredible milestone, her 85th birthday.
0:45
Sorry, giving up is not part of the story.
0:49
And the always wonderful Maria Venuti and her daughter Bianca and granddaughter Allegra
0:54
right here in the studio, three Venuti girls in the room.
0:58
Welcome, lovely to see you.
1:01
Happy 50th birthday.
1:02
Oh, 50th, she was like that.
1:04
You know what, it's going to say 45th.
1:08
I'm telling people her range.
1:10
Bianca, how does it feel to reach this milestone?
1:12
How did you celebrate?
1:14
Well, we had a big 80th and sort of thought that was it for the milestone, so we just hadn't
1:20
thought through beyond that.
1:22
So when 85 came up, I thought, well, five is still a big number.
1:25
We've got to celebrate all the fives and zeros at this stage.
1:28
So we had a relatively small party, as small as we get.
1:32
We had the lots of gums, friends.
1:34
We had the fabulous Emma Pask singing with mum's penis, Kevin Hunt.
1:38
Woman's Day came in to take photos.
1:40
Monica made this gorgeous birthday cake from Mourish Cakes and lots of stories and lots of singing, didn't we?
1:48
Maria, you can't, Maria, you can still pull a crowd.
1:55
So pink and leopard theme and it looked like it had a lot of fun.
2:05
Beautiful black bow on this beautiful pink and leopard cake.
2:10
Bianca, we're going to ask you 10 years since Mum's Stroke.
2:15
Talk us through the journey and how's she doing now?
2:19
Well, I feel like Mum is just in, is it indomitable when you just never give up?
2:24
She's going to be around forever.
2:25
Actually, look, I think 10 years, like no one thought we'd get to this point.
2:30
I don't think we even thought we'd get this far.
2:33
And Mum's just still the same.
2:37
We actually were on the drive on the way here and we met our Maxi Taxi Driver 10 years ago
2:42
and said, Mum hasn't changed.
2:44
She's exactly the same.
2:45
I said, she has medically the same spirits, the same.
2:49
She understands everything.
2:51
Smile, the smiles, the smiles.
2:53
We went to Europe for my wedding.
2:56
She'll be 90 before we know at 100.
3:01
There's no stopping.
3:03
And still fabulous taste in jewellery.
3:12
Beautiful and necklace.
3:13
It's a, because Maria, her life has been about performing.
3:15
Bianca, is there a favourite memory of your Mum's?
3:17
Well, I was going to say Mum has got a lot of them in her book, so she'll say, well,
3:22
that's her version of it.
3:23
For me, it was probably actually when we did fat pizza after her stroke.
3:28
So, we did on Seb make with Paulie, who was also at her party.
3:32
He had her back acting on set in the wheelchair, not able to talk with the rolling pin, just
3:42
playing the mumic character that she played 14 years before, after her stroke.
3:47
And that to me was really special because I thought she's still a performer.
3:51
I think sometimes big things like this can happen and people just sort of write you off
3:55
a little bit and think, oh, you know, they're aged, they're old, they're done.
3:58
It's like, no, no, no, she's not done.
4:00
Not this one, not this one.
4:02
Hey, Allegra, do you want to be a performer like Nana?
4:05
Is that what you want to do? Do you want to sing and dance and be a big star?
4:08
Do you like singing?
4:10
Do you like singing?
4:12
And what about dancing?
4:14
Do you like dancing or...?
4:17
Yeah, dancing as well.
4:21
I guess you're going to do everything if you're going to be as fabulous as...
4:24
Nana's already given her a little lesson of singing.
4:28
Is that you dancing, sweetie?
4:32
Yes, she's still getting used to cameras.
4:36
This is only ever her second time on TV since she came on here when she was first born,
4:41
but she loves dancing.
4:43
She's very extroverted at home.
4:45
So I think we've got to watch out with this.
4:48
I've been doing this for 100 years.
4:49
I'm still getting used to the cameras.
4:50
I'm so lovely to see you all.
4:57
What are you going to say?
4:59
You say Maria Vanity Tutti frutti shizza.
5:03
You've got a word there.
5:05
You can read more about Maria Vanity's 85th birthday celebration in this week's Women's Day magazine
5:14
available now to all Sunday.
5:16
They got the numbers round the wrong way.
5:18
It was actually 508.
5:21
Yeah, that was a photographic era.
