On April 3rd, Labor's new mansion tax on high-value homes is stirring up major backlash after an official study drops some harsh realities.

Starting in 2028, it'll hit around 165,000 properties worth over 2 million pounds, slapping owners with extra.

Annual fees up to 7,500 pounds on top of their council tax.

The tax kicks in with bands like 2,500 pounds for homes over 2 million pounds, 3,500 for over 2 point, 5 million, 5,000 for over 3.5 million, and 7,500 for those topping 5 million.

But the study paints a rough picture for homeowners, predicting thousands will downsize to dodge the hit while tens of thousands get tangled in.

Appeals, 20% might challenge their valuations, and 40% of those could win, that's over 13,000 cases.

Experts warned it'll warp the property market, with prices bunching just under the thresholds, fewer homes built, and a flood of bureaucracy scaring off.
