It's April 5th. MLB News. Today starts now. AI powered and game ready. I'm
Cory with the story. The Miami Marlins pulled off a family first move by giving
reliever Pete Fairbanks a rare start on Sunday. Also he could bolt home for the
birth of his child. His wife had labor set to be induced Monday morning and the
team planned to slide him on some maternity leave right after. Game time got
pushed back by rain, but around the original first pitch, the Marlins swapped
him in for Chris Paddock. Fairbanks, a 32-year-old right-hander, lasts through on
Tuesday, marking his first start since September 21st, 2020 when he, when one and
two-thirds endings were Tampa Bay against the New York Mets. This set up
lets him pitch quick and get back to his family without missing the big moment.
Teams like the Marlins stepping up like this remind us baseballs got heart
beyond the diamond.
