On March 28th, early this morning in Southeast London, a massive fire broke out at a scrap metal yard in Erith, torching 400 tons of metal on Manor Road. The London fire brigade jumped in quick, sending 12 fire engines and about 80 firefighters from stations in Erith, Bexley, Plumsdead, and SIDCUP. Crews got the call just before 5am on March 28th and fought the blaze for 5 straight hours, hitting it under control around 11.30am. They brought in heavy gear like a 32 meter turntable ladder acting as a water tower and even a fireboat pulling water from the temps to hit. The flames from above. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Richard Arnold said the team worked hard all morning and firefighters are sticking around to fully dampen any hot spots, while investigators dig into what sparked it all.
