America leads the world in medicine development. It matters. We get new medicines first, nearly
three years faster. Five million Americans go to work because we make medicines here at home,
and not relying on other countries keeps us safe. But China is racing to overtake us.
Will we let them? Or will we choose to stay ahead? When America leads, America cures.

Hello everyone, I'm Chris Winn and welcome to Howe The Podcast.
And after I said in the preview that lessons could be learned from our last outing in the fifth
round of the FA Cup back in 2015 when we were beaten by Parkies league one Bradford City.
History has repeated itself and Sunland have just exited the Cup in the last 16 to a side rooted
to the bottom of the table in league one. And it has to be said to be fair that that
that's I forgot who we're playing now who we're playing Portville that's who we're playing.
So I'm trying to forget the game already. To be fair, the did deserve their place in the quarter
final because Sunland Huffton puffed but offered nothing in terms of quality or even really
desire to win the game. But as much as we probably like to leave it there, I have a couple of
lads with me who want to get a bit of their chest nod out. And first up we have Brett with us,
Salo Brett. To be fair, mate, I wish I was anywhere else but here right now.
When you said are you ready and I said I don't want to, I actually meant that I really didn't want
to do this. Yeah, there's a lot to talk about. There's a lot to moan about. I think it's one of those
like moments where if I don't laugh I'll cry because yeah, we just was not at the races at all today.
Fair play to any Sunland fans who actually can listen to this as well because I don't think I'd
want to. Yeah, I mean, just quickly though because I mean, we're because when I'm just our next
guest, you know, people will not understand why I'm saying it because we're of, I would say,
a similar vintage, you know, and apologies if I don't exactly know exactly how old you are,
Brett, but I think we're roughly about the same age and only four times in my lifetime
of Sunland reached the quarter final of the FA Cup. And I was, I mean, this is a huge thing and
just to go out with this at a whim, but it's, it's just, it almost hurts.
I think that is it, I mean, and I think we are actually, we probably are a similar vintage to
be fair. We're both, but I mean, we're both children of the 80s. Yeah, it's rubbish, you know,
it's just all over one here. This season, especially, I think that's what the worst part of it,
where we got to 40 points in midweek. It was like, right, let's focus on the cup and a really good
chance. You know, to be fair, there's still like, you know, the big boys are still in it,
you know, Chelsea everyone, Liverpool on, Arsenal on. So, winning the FA Cup was always actually
going to be a tall ask. But it's, you know, it's nice to dream. It's nice to be in the hat for
the quarterfinals. Oh, you know, when this were at Wembley. And the, the way we're in about it,
I just wish, you know, that what our thoughts are actually like transcended onto our players today,
because it felt like they just didn't get the memo. What this cup was all about.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And people are probably guessed because whenever I call myself old,
we usually have this person with us because we have Johnny. Hello, mate.
Hello, Chris. Hello, Brett. Yeah. I wish we were joined in each other under happier circumstances,
but at least we've got a chance to have a bit of free therapy.
Well, yeah, that's it. Well, it's funny because a lot of people in the chat are being seen.
Well, I'm just switching off from football for the rest of the week, either we have to come in
and they were getting all through it all. But then, but we're just saying before we recorded,
Johnny, that and I've said this a few times, actually, just generally were Premier League games, but
I almost think that it went into the mix as another leveler, just the fact that it was this early kick
off on a Sunday. And it shouldn't. And I don't know why it is. But these early kickoff on Sundays,
just have this slow tempo about them. And I don't know about it. If it's kind of players
preparing for games, I don't know whether it's just fans because we have not enough time to have
a few drinks or whatever it is, but it's just got this weird feeling about it, which then kind of
translated into the game, didn't it? Yeah, I suppose there is like a bit of just a feeling that
things haven't got going yet by that point in the day in the weekend. If you know what I mean,
when it gets to three o'clock on a Saturday or later than that, you're like, right, this is football time
here we go. Whereas half one on a Sunday. It's the worst. And that is, by the way, it is like the
worst slot because it's it's early enough in the day that you can't do anything before the game,
but it's not early enough that you can just wake up and watch the match. You've still got that
annoying amount of the morning. And can you tell how much I'm sort of delaying having to actually
talk about the way that the game went? Just talk about the time. But as much as I'd like to
describe that as some sort of excuse for the players, I don't think I don't think that was the reason
that we came up with such a lack of intensity. It's an interesting it's an interesting one to look
for trends and stuff and makes a good debate with your mates down the pub about general football
stuff. But for us today, I think if we're if we start the talk, I'll kick off times in atmosphere
as then, you know, we need to be looking inwards because it is a league one team at the end of the day.
Well, to be fair, I did have the thought yesterday. I was watching the Arsenal Mansfield game
because Mansfield had a right-go at Arsenal. Arsenal were awful and Arsenal got away with it because
they brought on Ezair and smushed the ball into the back of the neck because he got bored.
But yeah, I mean, look, let's get into the team, Brett, because two in force changes,
humans, I think he came out because they were suspended. Talbie and Rigg came in.
Not, you know, I think we were probably expecting that. There was not too many options on the bench,
Ben Chenle. Gav was talking big in the preview about, you know, if Jacques is fit, he should be in.
He wasn't in the team. And I think obviously, Regis Obis thought, well, we could get through in this
game and give Jacques a little bit of a rest while we do it. Yeah, I can, I can only assume he's not
100%. He was on the bench. The fact that he came on so, so late in the game.
You know, I think Regis didn't want to risk him at all if possible. So yeah, I wasn't overly surprised
that he hasn't. I think we might almost be keeping quiet. The state of him fitness-wise at the
moment obviously came on off the bench the other day against Leeds, you know, pretty late as well.
And at the actual, like the first 11th day, I wasn't unhappy with it. I don't think there was much
else we could have done. I know it was a bit quite workout. How are we going to go for like three in the
back or a four with a nine going to left back before the game started? I don't think he knew where
we needed to be for the first half. Anyway, during that game. So yeah, I think, you know, we could,
we put out put the best team possible and looking at the sub bench, you know, there was no, you
know, who actually came on as well during that game. I mean, only my two subs in that game. So it
shows to me that we didn't have a strong bench to actually play in the first place. Yeah, yeah,
absolutely. And it was like that. As Brett said, Johnny, team almost picked itself in that sense.
When you look at the bench, there's only really that question about Jack, the key of input.
When you look at the way we set up, you know, the fear was was really deep playing almost alongside
the aura. And with the midfield being, you know, almost a place, I think the brace almost thought,
well, the ball just isn't going to be in that midfield. The board feel aren't going to have the ball
in that midfield. Do we really need anyone to tackle in there? So I'll get some kind of technical
players to get on the ball and produce stuff for us. And it just never happened. Well, we put
technical players in the middle of the pitch and then spent the whole game going wide. So that was
an absolutely genius move. First of all, you know, I had soft to all involved in that one.
Yeah, I agree with you. I think that was probably the logic behind the decision. And
in some ways, it was vindicated because the game was not a display of midfield control from
either side. And you know, it wasn't the kind of game where you shot passing and you want to touch
footballs going to get you out of trouble, which is another thing that we could have done with
learning a bit earlier than we did. And to be honest, you know, I think that was kind of the
story of the game for me, really. We were naive and we were slow or not even just slow, but just
didn't adapt to things. You know, we should have seen earlier in the game that certain things
weren't working. We were trying high balls, which were being swept up comfortably all day along by
either the Cape Rother, the center halves. My under was winning absolutely nothing when the ball went
up to him. And it wasn't sticking, but we kept with that strategy for most of the game.
We kept trying to play with the ball shot at the back, but that wasn't working. And
it all, it all comes back to this way that we started the game off, I think. And you know,
we just totally misjudged the way that the game was going to pan out. And
possibly slightly because of the fact that and it is fair to point out that we had, you know,
half a team really, a lot of players out and nothing on the bench. So it was always going to be
difficult to change things halfway through. But we just got it so wrong from the beginning that
we were playing catch up immediately. And I don't think we ever, I don't think we ever got
there. Did we? Well, actually, I mean, the first few minutes of bread, there was a little bit
of pressure. And we had that corner where the goalkeeper actually had an absolute shock. Are you
kind of punched the ball in the mid air? And I think it was my ender who got onto it with the header.
And then it was deflected onto the post, whether it was the hand, whether it was the head, there
was a quick VR check. I don't think it was properly clear. I wasn't claiming for it to start with.
I was quite surprised when it did go to VR, to be honest, but again, one of those things,
you know, if we'd get a goal in the third minute, you'd imagine the whole ground would have
went flat. And it's a completely different afternoon, isn't it? Oh, absolutely. It would have
actually changed everything. He's unfortunately, it didn't because that was seem to be our only shot
for the next 40 or so minutes. I don't think you can take any of the ball out of that.
I mean, fair play to them because, you know, yes, it was a crap pitch where we couldn't,
we've never got to crypts of any of the game today. It wasn't, if in my eyes, we're just
slow, pedestrian, you know, say those balls, that one moment, to be fair, if that actually,
you know, wasn't, you know, that had gone in. And that was it for the first half. I don't
even deserve to be like a goal up anyway. You know, if we didn't have another shot after that,
because, you know, they just wanted it more from us today. That for me, that is the
feel and end all, you know, they were well up for this. And for some reason, and it's
surprisingly, we've had players like Luke K9 in the team, you'd think that they would be
absolutely having everyone fight up from the very first whistle. And even like, he didn't seem
up for it today. So it was, you know, he just seemed too happy to be smiling at the,
yeah, not scared of the ball bounce. So every time we went to go take a throw one. So it was,
yeah, I don't know what that was, what about over? Yeah, well, I mean, just looking at what,
what I've been, what I was putting down for the first 20 minutes, I was seeing we looked comfortable,
but, but when, like, when we were getting in a decent position, passes were just going
astray. We just kept, we just kept knocking it out of play when, when we were getting in the
decent positions. And actually, after about 20 minutes, the short of a montage of the ball,
bobbling around a player's feet and things like that. And there was, there was sure that the
passing accuracy was around 70% for both sides. But, Johnny, do you think, and unfortunately,
I'm going to reference Robbie Savage here on the, on the commentaries, but, but we did just
insist on passing it around at the, but back and you could see the ball bouncing up and bobbling
up and, and some, and there was a couple of times when we did ping the ball over the top and we
won a corner or a DR when playing through. And you thought, well, actually, that ball over the
top, we've got the pace to, to get in behind. But we just insisted on keeping the ball between the
back four. It was infuriating to watch, wasn't it? Cause it was one of those where you see it happen
and repeatedly, obviously, you know, every time that we kept getting the ball, we kept trying it,
and you would just get an angrier and angrier every time because it kept not working and we kept
doing it. And, you know, after a while, you start sitting there thinking, like, I'm an idiot,
sat on me, saw fair, in me living room, you know, hundreds of miles away or whatever. And,
and I can see it. How can the professional Premier League footballers and the professional
managers not see this? And if Robbie Savage can see it, if Robbie Savage can see it and
applying man to see it. So Robbie Savage is right. That's the problem. Yeah. I think it's one of
the, the Harbingers of the Apocalypse actually. So we'd all best start getting prepared. But yeah,
no, it was, it was again, a sign of our rigidity today, which is not usually something that I
would, that I would associate us with. You, you would tend to say that Libris has got a good ability
to change things, particularly half time in games. You know, how many times do we say he spends
the first half working somebody out and then in the second half or, you know, into the second half,
maybe 60 minutes, he'll change things. But yeah, we, we fell into a lot of traps over and over
again a day, which that was one of the most frustrating aspects of it for me because I can forgive
things not coming off. I can forgive missing chances. I can give, you know, individual moments that
cost you, but repeated patterns of doing just what is obviously the wrong thing time and again
is unforgivable really. And it wasn't just that we were trying to knock it around at the back. It was,
you mentioned there correctly that the few times that we looked dangerous was when the ball
ever tried to get in behind. Even when they weren't coming off, you know, there was one moment
where I think Angulo tries to slip my ender through and we win a corner of it. Now, okay, it's not
being a one-on-one, we've not scored, but we've, we've got to set pace. Now, we've got up the pitch,
we're, you know, we're attacking the pressures on. Try that more because, you know, if you slide
in the ball through or try to knock one over the top, doesn't really matter if a bubble's about
a bit or anything, you just try to get somebody into space to run onto it so you, you can help
equalize things a bit and take the pitch out of the equation, but unfortunately for whatever
reason, which we're doing it. Yeah, and that's a perfect segue into what happened around 25 minutes
because this passing it around at the back went out to Luke or nine and he kind of started
shaping it up right to knock it down the line or to pass it inside or something. And then he
just turned around and started sprinting towards a wrong goal. I mean, it was kind of memories of
narrow and nosworthy against middle sprawls was years ago, although Luke or nine decided on a
public pitch to smash it as hard as he could back at, back at Elborg's goal. And thankfully,
Elborg was on the ball and managed to get his head on it miraculously. I mean, at first,
I did think he was going to catch it and I thought what is going to happen next once he catches
it, once he catches that ball. But, but yeah, he didn't, he headed over the power, but that,
that whole thing came out of this kind of pondress, you know, kind of passing it around at the back
and not really having any impetus to get it forward. And then, you know, they talked about the
reaction to it at halftime on the commentary. Kevin Phillips was big on it just saying that
Elborg was laughing or nine was chuggling. I think it kind of summed the day up, didn't it?
Yeah. So, we all love, you know, that's been as much. We all love Luke or nine. However,
we all know, Luke or nine has these massive brainfarts that happen. Oh, you know, in these
little funny moments that, you know, like we literally had it the other day against Leeds when he
kicked the ball out, they have a ball and he got a yellow card, but you know, he didn't get sent off.
We won the game and we can all laugh about it. So it's great. And, you know, he's piggybacking
on someone or he's kissing knowledge players, you know, these are these little moments that he has.
And if you get away a bit, it's really funny. And it's a day like today. You don't get away a bit,
your keepers scrambling heads it over. They don't get three corners in a row and we can not
take the FA Cup. So, yeah, today is, today is really, really annoying. And that's, that's happened
like that. And it's one of those moments like I, I, I, I, I, I, I say to my kids when they,
they both play football that, you know, there's like two girls, 11, 13. And I say to make your decision
making, you know, in those moments, you knock it out from, you know, it's worst case for a corner
or you knock out, you can knock out for throwing or you can get out of the pitch. Don't boot it to
your keeper from like 30 or yards sky high, you know, they may have bubbled up before he got to it
and he launched it. It was just crap. It was such a crap crap thing to do. And in hindsight,
actually Elborg might have actually been better off catching it, give way to let that free kick
and then hopefully get the ball away. But we'll never ever know. So, um, but yeah, a lot of
uplabs because, you know, from there one in it then literally cost us that goal because that was
like three corners that we then we couldn't deal with. Yeah, yeah, well, I'll bring you in on it,
Johnny, because it's not not only those either, the, the one I'm incident, but then the corner and
the corner was it followed that pattern because the ball came in and it was bouncing around the
area and you looked at the replay and I would watch, I kept watching the replay and I was
waiting for a sun and play at a move even on the replay and all the poor veal players were
challenging and moving around and all of the blue sun and shirts were just standing still watching
to see what was going to happen next and inevitably this good. Well, I wasn't surprised at all to
see the sun and place stood around watching it because the whole team seemed to have caught some
sort of plague where anytime the ball rises above head height whoever's under it just stops
stands and looks upwards and doesn't move and that's all they seem to do all game. So, you know,
by that point in the match, I was just like, oh, yeah, well, that's how we're defending now. So
exactly. The whole just taken up Stargaz and as a hobby, I think in the past week and they just
tried to get some practice in, but, you know, Joke and aside, it was, it was, it's just terrible
defending and and to be honest, actually, that is possibly the most concern and part of the whole
thing because I thought Brett's description just before was very concise and correct, you know,
you make a stupid decision, you give away a corner and a couple minutes later, you're out the
cook. You know, those are the margins and we've seen with set pieces in the Premier League recently
as well. We've been on a pretty poor run of defending dead balls and you can excuse it a bit in
the Premier League, I think because obviously set pieces have become such a massive talk and
point in a huge weapon for basically every team this season anyway. So, it sort of comes with
a territory, but when you then defender that poorly against the team who are rock bottom of league
one, as much as they were up for the occasion and everything, quality wise, they are not a good team.
And yet we've made them look better than they are by, as you said, Chris, you know, it's
stood watching the ball not moving towards it. I think when they were analysing it, there was
three separate touches that a Port Vale player got to the ball first ahead of a Sunland player
before it goes in. You know, the initial contact, the second ball which flicks it forwards and then
sorry, flicks it up in the air and then the third touch is obviously the header which goes in.
You kind of like to lose one loose ball is unacceptable in your own 18 yard box. Never
mind to lose three off the belt in a couple of seconds to to concede a goal. Like that is as much
desire and mentality and intensity as it is anything else because you can't tell me that Port
Vale have got better set pace coaching than we do. It's not possible. Or if they do, there are
some bigger questions that we need to be asking. So yeah, it was really, really poor and I thought
the one slight positive I'll say is I thought Elbow was a little unlucky because he does well,
they actually get like a little fingertip to the to the ball when it's going past him and you know
on another day maybe just tips it onto the post or tips it wide and where, you know,
wiping our brows and thinking, it's got to wear one there, but obviously the day, not the case.
Yeah, well before we get into how Sunland violently fought back in the second half, I think it's

Brett you know Diora did have a chance to clean through almost and he got a tour tour just
before the keeper came out and ended up going wide. But I imagine the bris was really desperate
to get them in at half time and and have words with them. But we've been saying in the buildup
to this that almost this season. Someland have been playing like a cupside where they fight for
every ball and quite if you look at the underlying stats you know we keep getting reminded that
actually someland should be in the bottom three. But because we play in almost that cup spirit
with a cup tie that to get on the right end of the result regardless of our games pan out
that that's how we play and that's that's kind of what we that's the foundations of this side.
And it's just so surprising that when it comes to facing a side who are going to be based on that
we fall down on that and we we turn up and we're completely flat and it's just bizarre that
what everything we've been built on this season just completely dissipated.
It's a little bit like where you know I've said that it was for us against the world and we really
seem to like rise to the challenge and naturally that we can say now like a cup team that that
hits the nail on the head like for some you know some games this season you know like watching
that game last night with Rex and Chelsea you know that's almost like how we were playing against
Arsenal sort of early in the season we're fighting for every ball we're chasing everyone down and
you know the players literally are so up for it and I say that there's that us feed them sort of
attitude and you know we're literally going to go we'll die for this club right now and it's almost
like we've gone here like we're not we're not we're not we're not the underdogs in this game you
know we're we're the we're the premiership team we're mid-term premiership premier league we're
going to roll up and we're just going to do our stuff and we're going to pass it round and we're
going to you know we'll just wear them down and you know easy win this game and yeah at a game
like this you do need volunteers you need people who are going to stand up for it and you know you
kind of players going down and you know we're quick touch rolling around holding the teeth you
know they need to be getting back up and getting stuck in because these are league one cloggers you
know it was almost like at times today I was pining for like Chris McGuire and Aiden McGeedy
to be in that team because because they know how to like deal with league one players but as I
just sort of mean you know we need players who actually were going to you know can stand up and fight
against these players because you need you know just toughing yourself something gets stuck into them
you know I've had a fancy big party so I'm just giving people
to like yeah I'll punch you and take a quarter pound or something like that but anyway just
getting into the start of that second half like we said Johnny because just on the on the same
theme there how is it expecting us to come out and say right well come on let's start again
you know the players make sure you win those tackles me because we weren't in that first half we
were second every every 50 50 they were winning every loose ball they were winning a couple of minutes
into the second half we did have a chance from a corner DR alooped the ball over the goalkeeper
after he made another hash of it and but it was cleared off the line and then we didn't really
follow that up for the next 15 minutes though nothing and it was it's just so bizarre but do you
do you think you get it when you get into that position where you're so flat it's just almost
impossible to just click your fingers and turn it around and suddenly be the first of every ball
as a team and you just think it was just too much of a job for for the bris to turn that around it
half time I don't think it's impossible but I do think it's not 100% under your own control so
it's it is possible you know we've seen it haven't we've seen it happen both four of us and
against us let's be honest more stuff than against us over you know over the years support
the sunland you've seen us be decent in the first half of the game and come out second half and
look like we kind of kick the ball and vice versa sometimes you do just come out the trap second
half and for whatever reason you know god knows what is going on inside the the players heads you
know it in the dressing room at half time and then when they come out but sometimes whatever it is does
light the fire under them today was definitely not the case I think there was there was that shot
the talby had just after half time from outside the box that whizzed over and that DR a moment
that you mentioned and the talby shot was like that gave me a bit of optimism because I thought
right at least the players have maybe been told like okay maybe things aren't happening for us in
the buildup and maybe we're not like we're not on it but yeah exactly shoot just do some it like
make things happen I'm not saying it I'm not I'm not I'm not I'm not like don't shoot
me sorry sorry yeah maybe we shouldn't just not shot and then you can't even have the
disappointment of watching it not going but I thought that could have at least been a signal
of a bit of intent but you write Chris again like it just it just fizzled absolutely nothing almost
immediately and you can forgive disjointed attack and play it you can forgive you know a little
bit of lethargy maybe when because there was the odd moment because we have got quality players
there was the odd moment where like Angulo would show couple of touches or Lefei would do a little
turn on somebody and you're like oh you know there's there's a pass about to open up here we're
just about to get in and then the next pass never comes or bottles out of play or so it's so
constantly having the win taking out your sales it's obviously going to you know it's going to take
a toll on the players mentality during the game but that said that the lack of the lack of any
attempts after talbi and diara to even drive a bit of impetus and and a bit of a bit of fight in
the game was it was very worrying if we're if we're being brutally honest because one of the
best things about this team has been the mentality and to see it you know what we just watch today
hopefully it's a one off because if that creeps in anymore that's a concern well I think your key
point that you're saying there and those first 15 minutes was the throw on by luco nine that literally
drops into the six yard box and not a single sungland player is near that you know that is the problem
you know it's we struggle goals as it is but for no no one to even you know just gamble on it just
get yourself there have been front of the goalies for god's sake you know just to put him off
and the second balls the second balls every time the ball went in the box how many times did a
pot veil win result in a loop and ball that could have just so easily dropped to a lafay or a diara
or whoever but there's nobody following in and actually on a similar theme there was one just
before half time where diara down that right and side took the took about three players on
drawing to the box mastered across the box is not sung and player anywhere near it like you know
busting a gutter to get in that to tell me on that left hand side or all Chris rig as Bobby
Savage called him tries to get into that like he's nowhere near like it's a surely he should be
he should know full well that balls there you need to take a gamble and get yourself at the edge of
the bottom you know six yard box just run to that that sort of box at that part of the area because
that's where it's going to be going yeah yeah sorry we've been to know it's about Robbie Savage as
well so let's just point out he was convinced remain mundle was playing in the first half as well
so just let's all just remember who we're dealing with here well also yeah well don't forget
bit where he admits where he was at he actually cheats during games as his keepers go down yeah that
was so good yeah he was listening to that right there he got within a millisecond of openly
admitted and you could almost hear the got the cogs turning in his brain gone wait no don't admit
that don't admit that makes something up that was great well to be fair an injured mundle might have
actually had had some impact on the game to be honest but but on the on the hour mark Brett
I did think it was all over with about half an hour to go I mean I can't say I had a huge
amount of hope but I almost thought we'd we'd get one chance at least to get it back into it but
on the hour mark and it all started with the Sunland corner now there's a lot to kind of pull
apart here because at first on that corner it looked like ballad was pulled down right on the edge
of the area which I thought that we're going to take a look at that and almost the commentator
said oh I'm sure they'll take a look at that but when that happened Paul failed broke
ball over the top and Elborg came he almost came out for it then he backpedaled and then he
decided to come for it again but then he tackled for the ball now if you look at the replay I'm not
convinced there was any contact on the actual player who went down but then there was the whole
yellow card red card to be when the VR but but potentially Elborg was a lucky boy but I
after I met I did agree with the decision you know what I actually think if that happens the other
way we're all three of us sitting here saying that should be a red card I was really surprised he
didn't get well I want to say look to it again well one thing I looked at I thought if Eiffel's
going to get called out why don't we actually come in over one point to book their manager but
I I generally thought that he's going for that I thought he was really lucky because
I don't think he would have kept to fight he would have got a shot on target I don't
got to play near the box who I can't who's running back am I being a true I think he was heading back
I think he would have stopped any shot but it is a goal scoring opportunity at that moment in time
so yeah if if the boots were never for I would be and it knocked us out I would be absolutely
human about that and I'd be you know that was the moment that we got done either
Johnny I don't know if you don't need to break us you know I thought I just thought he'd
knocked it too far but and again you know looking at the replay I'm really not sure we touched him
well I think even if he doesn't touch him you'd never get in the way with sliding in that aggressively
and not coming away with the ball so I didn't have any complaints about being a foul whatsoever
I think it was definitely a foul I'm really on the fence with it because I totally agree with
Brett in the sense that if that was the other way around I would currently still be doing me
not in if their keeper had got away with not getting sent off for it because how couldn't not be
a good and obvious goal scoring opportunity when you've got the ball in the box and the keepers
on the ground 10 yards behind you like the angle was wide and his touch was heavy which
the way the laws written I think were maybe did just get the right call just because the way
that he takes the touch it's moving away from goal as you mentioned the defender who's back I
think there's just enough there with the way the laws are to make it a yellow card but it's one
of those words you kind of need to take a step back and be like well what's the point of this law
and it's like we don't want people just getting taken out when they're about the score goals
which is basically what happened to sort so probably should be a red card but I think I think
just the referee probably did get it right but I think if if he'd given the red on the field
VAR wouldn't be overturning it and and making them rescind the red and so eat well he I didn't agree
with that yeah if he flashes it right there they don't call that back it's the equivalent of
an umpires call in it it's just whatever the ref given was was going to be stuck with yeah well
I'm kind of glad it didn't happen because then almost we would have had half an excuse which
we didn't really deserve but but Brett there was just about 20 odd minutes to go um the first change
was made tell be came off and is it all came on the game uh I don't I didn't realize he come on the
pitch sorry I should have been an attendant of what I was the red card sort of thing so I must
have missed that well this is the thing because you know with the game Gordon the way it did you
know he waited till about 20 minutes to go to change something and the game was never going right
and even at half it half time if he'd made a triple substitution you would have shoved your
shoulders all the time yeah fair enough yeah you've let you've done sank about and you've
changed things around yeah it was so so late to make it especially made one change in that game
at that so in that moment in time it might it didn't really make any sense at all to me but again
it just was the only thing I can think of is that he didn't trust the bench and those you know
you send them young players on the bench we're going to come on in the hope that we were like
falling a lap and cruising and then we can you know give them a little cut of minutes here and
there sort of thing um but yeah it was it was just for that that one sub I don't know I don't think
it's a toward ending at all today um and I'm that I I really like the good guy actually I'm not
one of these but I know some people are sort of you know a bit against him sort of thing I actually
really like him and he's I think he's going for a really bad patch for us at the moment um and
nothing would please me more since going goals again uh but yeah he came on and he did very
very little for me today yeah well just after the substitution Johnny we did get a bit of joy um
for for a few minutes we had a few corners I think uh there was a corner where ballad headed just
over um I think it was tipped over and then there was a a minute let a rig cook back onto his left
foot I think he he then crossed the ball to the back post and Goulore did it made a good header
that was a good save from the corner uh and then actually I think that that uh resultant corner
was ballad uh hedgered hedgering it again and it was tipped over for it for another corner
but we we seem to be trying to rely on set pieces and the amount of times we had the ball in
wide areas and Goulore had it or Talby had it or the fear had it in the middle and we've
been talking about it all season in in in in certain games but we've been taking that one
opportunity getting a draw here or winning a game here but in a game like this it was kind
of really highlighting our lack of creativity and how much we actually created an open play
isn't it yeah and I don't need it to coincidence that the the one of those that came out of
open play which was the rig ball to Angolo at the back post um that comes from oh a ball over
the top of the defense for rig to run in behind on to get onto the ball in the first place and then
oh a clipped ball over the top of the defense into the space behind them fran Goulore to run
on to hmm funny old artworks funny they could have seen that and I'll recall anyway
bitterness aside um I think you're right but with for some reason we've seen a play for set
pieces a lot for a team who's got actually a comparatively quite poor set piece record
so make that one make sense um joint worst in the Premier League of corners by the way exactly
and and again that doesn't necessarily mean we're terrible because the whole Premier League's
obsessed with set pieces at the minute it feels like but it does make you wonder where the
think in process came from for that side of the the tactical approach um yeah it was I mean it was
a little spell of pressure and I think you know they keep a played well you've got to give again
given a bit of credit at the port Vale tip in the ballard header over the save from Angolo and
look some of the misses that he probably should make but still you've got to make them and
he he did that you know he did everything that he was called upon to do so fair play it to him but
yeah it was it was another sign of how stopped start we were in our in our approach that like I've
said you know the only one of those that came from open players the one that came from us actually
moving the ball quickly and at the risk of being a bit tactics nerd about it I think so much of
the time we're relying on people running from outside to in rather than inside to out so we get
the ball out wide early and then we're constantly after people to be making runs that are going
towards goal essentially or inside you need players going from the middle running out towards
the channels out towards the flanks then you stretch a bit of space in the middle then you cut
inside and go at them but we never bring people outwards enough you know my ender was was through
the middle all days and he's not dragging the defenders around enough and I think he's been guilty
that a lot this season you know Lafay because he was playing so deep he can't get up and start trying
to stretch the defenders outwards either so the end result is they're happy enough to just be able
to go right well if you're going to go wide early and try and commit at us we're just going to stick
everyone inside our own boxing defend from there and we'll go compact that's what a defendant team
wants to see they want to see everything in front of them they want to be able to sit in our own
compact and not leave any space and they want you to just play in front of them and they'll just
let you do that all day we need it to stretch them and we didn't and again part of that's the options
but I don't think we even tried enough it's a lot of words for saying if you don't shoot you don't score
so I'm sorry I don't feel like I have to just be stupid because I'm so annoyed by his result and I'm
actually don't laugh I'll cry well I didn't want to bring you in on this creativity discussion
Brett because there is you know is this a bigger question that we're asking or you know that's
that's and then just don't create all that much or is this a game where we're playing
aside where the expectation is on us to attack and create things and do we have a bigger problem
with when we're playing things like that as we have you know we're talking about maybe
full of them at home the other way where we were maybe expected to be dominant in the game and it
didn't happen and then we don't quite know what to do after that is there a bigger question to ask
or is this purely a result in the game today because of the way we approached it and the fact
that we would just second best in the mentality and how we approach the game. No I do think it is a
bigger problem and for a frat this season we know we're not particularly big goal scorers we're
not particularly big you know chance creators we've seemed to have gone you know I think the game
plan for this year has always been to be solid and work hard and we'll all nick results of here
and there and I think in the summer that's where the big process got to be now is to try and
you know it's to get more goals in that team and get you know and that's what I think we'll look
at spring these sort of players in and you know you know changing around to do that you know we
I think we've kind of I think it's a stage one of the plan or you know the couple of year plan we
had was get to Premier League be solid be hard to beat and then you know try and stay up and
obviously we've we've done that now so in a game like today where you know we expect it to be
that team that's going to be on the front foot that's going to be pushing it's going to be a
great chance is we kind of don't know what to do really and I do think again you know I don't
always like to pin it on him but if you had you know Jack from the team pulling strings it might
have been a different story because he can he's of holds it back a little bit for us you know
the other guy like Vigil so sorry the theme was so deep today that he couldn't really like push
forward so no I think you know here and now yeah we are struggling to create chances and it is
definitely something we do need to be working on yep well the last chance I've got is on 78 minutes
when there was a ends all the way across to the back post my end afflicted on an Angulo kind of
hit the post maybe should have scored but he was ruled off side anyway but from I've got from
78 minutes and then I've got you know jacket came on with around 10 minutes to go but Johnny there's
no big push there's no big chance there's no we have we're not pinning them in we're not even
putting long ball diagonals in from halfway or lying there's there's almost nothing there's
nothing there you go you're waiting you're going right okay there's going to be a big finale we're
going to really pin them in at some point for a couple of minutes it just didn't happen the closest
we got to anything like that was there was literally maybe what two possibly three long balls we
played once we'd eventually remembered well we've got ballad on the pitch who's absolutely
unreal in the air in both boxes maybe we should stick him up top once we'd you know realize that
was possible we then did get that you know the tiniest bit of joy when a couple of balls went
up to him and he was able to win a flick on or two and we still did nothing with it but at least we
were and it goes back to a bit like what Brett was just talking about when I was saying before where
there wasn't enough movement to create the space to stretch people to allow us to capitalize because
I understand it's different right at the end of the game when ballads got up top because at that point
they're obviously going to just have everybody behind the ball and just be defending and hanging on
that's their prerogative but ballad was winning the flick ons and there'd be one player within
three or four yards of him you need two or three players up there near him when you chase in the
game because he's there to cause chaos in theory and part of that that equation needs to be
Sunal and players around him ready to pick the loose ball up ready to capitalize on any space
that we can create and we and we weren't doing it and there was again there's a little bit of
bad luck that you can point to where you know he wins a flick on and the ball bounces just behind
my ender instead of just in front of him or things like that but you make your own look as well
and we could have made our own look there by being smarter about the way that we use the ball
actually trying to launch a tax later in the game with a bit of intensity you know there are
things that you can do to improve your own chances and we weren't doing that and on top of that
Portville were very much at the races which you know it's it's always a mountain to climb when
they're at it and you're not and when you don't make when you don't make the right decisions
under pressure do you finish don't you yeah well actually you know we should say this
Brett because look we're a Sunlin podcast so we've been talking about how you know things went
wrong for Sunlin but to be fair Portville deserved it and good luck to them the way they set up
against us perfect game plan you know what 100% Portville deserved that win we can't moan about
any decisions that went against us or refs call you know the refs calls you know we've got no
ref to moan out or VR to moan out you know we just got out done by a team that wanted it more
today so yeah 100% fair play to them I hope they get you know decent drawing the next round and
you know they deserve it so you know nice plum tie get us more money into them happy days for them
but yeah I could have done about a new castle fan of a crap mustache scoring the goal I was just
going to say yeah good good luck to all of them except Ben win Ben win and fuck off well if
if nothing else today reminds us of how glad we are not to be in league one anymore to be honest but
I mean just stick with you Brett for a minute because look this was this was the fun bit that
was left almost wasn't that the FA Cup was we can keep this going and this is a we've got the
40 points where does this leave us now because look we've got to remember it's still being a
fantastic season we've got Brighton coming up at the weekend and we are still only four points
of Brentford in seventh place and we've got we haven't got a kind of lose sight of the fact that
was still in a fantastic place around a fantastic season and this this was just one of those FA Cup
days and that's why we love the FA Cup yeah and and and it's a few minutes in the back mind if
it is a danger and I really hope like from both the supporters and the players I thought that
obviously we've got new cast will come up in two weeks time and the you know kind of more
bad results if you know we're well Brighton then there and also in our season just falls apart and
we just literally you know just in the season you know ended up in about 16th place on 40 points and
it's just you know everyone thinks I was never done script at the end of the season so no we need
to keep pushing forward keeps you know so stick together get it goes out of the weekend smash the
mags in a couple of weeks everyone's bouncing again you know and then we can finish a season on a
real high because to fair we deserve it you know we've we've out you know we don't done our first
target a target was done on Tuesday 40 points tick you know do the double over the mags finishing
the top ten happy days you know just the same we had a bad cup on there you go there's there's
no better place to leave it than that I reckon so I just need to say thank you very much
