On the junction phone junction delis all across the state of Mississippi. They are fueled by Prince oil company

And of course, it's not rubbing it in

It's just I remember the UCLA fight song is the one it sounds like a circus

And like and there's part of it in there like if you were watching the circus and the guy on the high wire started

Wavering like he was going to fall, you know

Hey UCLA is really good, aren't they?

Here's what I'm talking about. It's not like the circus, isn't it?

Anyway, yeah, so hats off to the UCLA Bruins everyone went under feet on the weekend and unbelievable extra innings game beat state 8 to 7 last night or yesterday

The game went on forever like almost what four and a half hour baseball game in college. That's what you wanted in it

But look

States really good too. I mean, and you know really it's like

You know they hit that ground rule double. It was at bottom of the ninth. I think it was

Whatever it was ninth or tenth

Yeah, I mean they win if the ball hits the wall

But instead of bouncing up and hitting the wall it bounced up and went over the wall

So with no outs they had to stop at second and third if it hits the wall you score you walk it off you go home

You want I mean, it's just that narrow of a margin when teams are that good and I think that

There's no question UCLA is tops in the country right up there. I think states

Probably right up there tops in the country and I'll be honest with you. I think you're gonna see it

The you know some degree going forward. We'll see about tomorrow night

Southern miss is tops in the country. They're right up there. I'm just telling you

In terms of and there may be some others that we're talking about for it's all said and done because it's baseball

And stuff really abs and flow is you got to get hot at the end of the year

But in terms of ability and the ability to go do it

I'm telling you Southern miss can go win the whole thing. They're that good. They didn't just

You know sweep Louisiana Tech. They absolutely destroyed Louisiana Tech at rusting this weekend

It's pretty good baseball team and pretty competitive and they're gonna be a lot of people

Southern miss had you know, they swept them and then what game to they run rule them

They didn't even have to play a full 27 innings to sleep on man

Southern miss is as hot as anybody in the country right now

I think the pirates are the home team, but he's supposed to bat lead off for my day how he does

Y'all want me to give you some play by play I like that you're gonna know

I mean, I'm not supposed to give you play by play of a major league spring training game, but I like they're gonna know

No, I'll just I'll give you the results. Oh, you didn't mean the TV squeeze play

I thought you meant the bounce around coverage of multiple games for college stuff

And maybe just be a postseason thing. I don't know

And then he clarifies is there's no sorry. I meant the actual squeeze month

I don't know you'd have to get a real baseball person old tackle to tell you why but you're right not very many people

You see more safety squeeze stuff and I think it's because nobody can but

Right kids don't come up bunting or learning how to do it

You're trying to teach some guy in college how to start learning how to but he's got to go out there and do it live against a guy

Like for UCLA yesterday who's throwing 96 in the 10th and the ball is moving across the plate

You know, it's moving 10 inches across the plate 96 and you're supposed to bump that

yet, you know, so I think that's probably part of the reason

But I don't know

That's just my uneducated opinion

Chopted to the second baseman beat it out the first infield single. He's one for one then they picked him off

I saw it during the break. They uh see he's playing his old team

the rays and

They threw over the first time and they actually here's a deal they actually got him

But the umpire called him safe like they got it. They did they got in the first time

So they threw over the next time it was relatively close and umpires like gotcha

He had time to see the replay over the first. I think it was a makeup call

SEC baseball results this weekend you kind of

Know the most surprising thing

Vanderbilt went oh and three. I don't know where they played but they went up and played one of these round robin deals

And cal Irvine, Arizona and Oregon all three beat him. Vandy went oh and three the rest of the league

There were a grand total of

Five teams that swept

This weekend SEC teams didn't lose and one of them's Missouri Missouri went three and oh against uh north Dakota state

Texas went three and oh in a round robin deal the same thing old miss was in Texas beat

Uh coast Carolina Baylor know how to state

LSU went three and oh against some nobodies

Georgia went four and oh against Oakland and Florida only got to play two games against Miami. They won them both

Now elsewhere

Clemson took two out of three from South Carolina

Palm and area in the game cocks off to a bad start

Uh Ole Miss dropped two games this weekend

Uh, let's see one to Baylor one yesterday to coast Carolina. They had the winner of Ohio State

and then everybody else around the SEC was uh

A two out of three deal

Alabama two out of three in the games they played round robin deal with three different teams

Arkansas took two out of three from UT Arlington Auburn two out of three from Nebraska

I misspoke by the way Kentucky also three and oh this weekend they they swept St. John's

State two out of three with winds over Arizona State Virginia Tech and in the loss to UCLA

Oklahoma two out of three versus Gonzaga Tennessee out there in the same event state was in they also won a couple of games

dropped the game to UCLA and then beat Arizona State in Virginia Tech

and Texas saying him much the same story lose to UCLA but beat Vitech and Arizona State this weekend and so

Those are your results around the SEC Southern Miss as I mentioned earlier

They they only had to play 25 innings of baseball this weekend because game two against La Tech they

They shut them out 11 to nothing and run rule them in seven innings

So for Southern Miss not just winning not just sweeping it. I mean dominant eight to three in game one 11 nothing

Run rule game two and then six to two yesterday. It was really not that close

So uh Southern Miss getting ready to host State tomorrow night and

The truth is they both have their hands full because Southern Miss and State are two of the best teams in a country and

That's uh

I mean, it's absolutely a true statement

Connor Griffin holmered again

For the pirates Connor Griffin the consensus number one prospect in baseball from right here in Jackson, Mississippi

A couple of years ago. He's playing high school baseball from prep

He holmered for the third time this spring

And it was in the first inning

um

Against the Cardinals yesterday

19 years old now, and you know, there's a little bit of a discussion going on out there of you know

Should he could he would he be on the opening day if even if it costs him a year at the back end of the contract

No, this kind of stuff. Maybe the Pirates ought to just go ahead and

Go ahead and give him a new contract since it's that sure of a deal. You know all those kinds of things are being talked about ad nauseam

But you know the the home run yesterday puts his spring average at two fourteen

And so he's really impressive, but you know who knows who knows if he's ready to leave it up to them

I know this. Uh, he's got a good head on his shoulders. He's humble. This is what he said after yesterday spring game

Not even get up. He just he catch the ball and stay down. He and from his knees

He'd throw people out at second base and he's to think man. He's got maybe the best arm I've seen

That guy yesterday world class and then

Uh, you know gene

State state was so good and so competitive and had and like you say they

They get the hit to win the game the guy's gonna score from first base

But the ball bounced over the fence instead of hitting it if it rattles offense you score easily and win again

You know and all that kind of stuff so it's a you know a game of inches yesterday

but man

The the talent on UCLA's team was it ever more evident

You know one kid who's got what 10 home runs in 11 games or something like that and

And then a one kid who's clutch and steps up there in the first pitch he sees he hits it about 400 feet to tie the game in the ninth and

The you know even the guys that they're down to on a Sunday putting on the mound at the end of an extra innings game

Who's throwing gas and it's the movement was ridiculous

Like they you that's

They are incredible

They looked it and then look the fact is states right there with them

But I what I guess the point I'm making is

It does feel like you still states got a couple of things to kind of figure out okay

For certain going forward. This is the role for you and for certain this role has got to be with this you know

still kind of

But man states fund a watch

Batch throughout the lineup

Speed on a base path really good any infield very well coached and put together talented all over the place

deep as they've ever been

And on like you say on top of all that you know a coach in the staff who it's obvious and you I talked about it here after going and watching their scrimmage

They are buttoned up on the details and on the fundamentals of baseball

It's like you know he's gotten their attention that you know

I don't care how talented you are if you're not button up into fundamentals in the little details

You're gonna look sloppy and lose the ones of games

Okay, so we're gonna avoid that by working her tails off on the fundamentals whether you think you're above it or not and and they they're

You know they're button up

So they're gonna be fun to watch all year and so yeah to the comment John about

Is it gonna matter come June not necessarily because you know a RPI

Even though you lost the game by a run. It's a neutral site deal against an RPI like UCLA

It actually still benefits you in the RPI just playing the game did

You know, there's some that in the vacuum of that one pitch

Situation where if it's called wrong it costs you, but I

I didn't think that was a deal. You know, Sven you said the game was over two times and we didn't get the call

You know, one was what the the bases loaded situation where teal thought he had drawn the walk

Okay, and they called it a strike and I think the computer show that it might have been an inch outside of the strike zone

But there's two things about that my opinions, Sven was that the pitch before was a strike and he didn't call that one

That that was my opinion

Now maybe not yours or someone else, but I thought the pitch before again. I thought man that strike didn't get the call

Comes back. Maybe it's an inch outside and they they show the strike zone

But again, you're talking about a not you know a college umpire not a pro one and he's missed a strike call and it according to the

the

Strike zone deal on the TV. He missed it about that far like literally that far and a gastro in 96 miles an hour

so

From the baseball side of it

You know, you're told from the time you can pick up a bat

When you've got two strikes if it's that close you got to hit the baseball

If you have two strikes, you're protecting the plate right in any situation not trying to walk now

You know again?

Good eye on the hitter. It was actually on the strike, but it was that far and it's one of those where to me

It's hard to blame the game on that and the other thing is

Like you say other little things

States got to run her own first no outs

You get a smash in the gap

Okay, where the ball hops

Because of the turf it hops over the fence and in the bullpen ground rule double now you got you've got to stay

You can't score if the ball just nips the top of the fence or rolls up against it

You score in the ball games over you did a lot of things to win

And some of it the bounces didn't go your way. I can't blame the whole ball game on a couple of balls strike calls

I just I can't do it

Saturday night. I got to go to metal Grove Baptist Church in Brandon

They had a wild game dinner for their men at the church. They called it a wild beast feast. It was awesome

lots of great food. They had a big crowd

They they did have judges judging some of the wild game stuff that was brought in and

They gave away first second third prize

All of that on the table of food for decoration

They had a

several little

You know tabletoppers

It was like a vase with some rocks in it sticks sticking up out of it and on the end of the sticks

were

Little Debbie Swiss roles

And they looked like cat tails. They had them decorated like cat tails

They had a little something in there kind of accents when you know like weeds and stuff

And they were sticking up and they even had sign on there you got cat tails and I'm looking at the it immediately drew my attention

I think part of that is

I'm at a point in my life where

sweet

Sweet snacks draw my attention they get my attention

And I one of those I did a double take I look on whoa look at this

I immediately recognize that those are Swiss

roles from little Debbie

And they really did look like little clumps

Of decorative cat tails

What a genius idea and I didn't get a chance to find out if someone there came up with that on their own or not

I just know I'd never seen it before and I've now stolen the idea

I have stolen the idea

Anyway, go check that picture out

Very exciting hard to nitpick, but goodness our bullpen is shaking and gave up a lot of home runs

Did did that and some hard hit balls, but you know UCLA's did too. I'm sure they're saying the same thing boys

And we hit him and that's where the game was like yeah hit him on the foot

In the ballgame. Yeah, so you got to execute on some basic stuff in that situation that you didn't and it's hard to bring it down

For me anyway, everybody can have their own opinions just for me. It's hard to bring it down to just that

All you had to do is watch the frustration by both catchers yesterday

He says heck I thought our guy was about to get tossed late in that game one more peep and he was gone

He said, but one thing I've noticed in all levels of baseball that guy behind the plate gives you a bit more

Runway or leeway when he knows he's having a bad game. Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, well

Like there's some insecurity there when he knows he's having a bad game. I did notice that too. I mean there was

I think situations both ways where they were frustrated with

With ball and strike calls. I had a few times where I was watching it

and and either team

You know pitches throwing. I'd go

Strike and then you don't get a strike call. I was like wow

I found I was second-guessing myself

Jonathan because I'm going well, maybe it's because major league park and

You know the camera angle that's a center field camera showing you pitches, but it seems to be a much higher location

And so maybe that's

When I'm not used to like I don't know

I was second-guessing myself

But uh

At any rate fun game to watch

Just didn't come out states way at the end

And they still scared him to death at the end didn't they

You know some things are just so silly

And a bunch of other folks it was really neat a bunch of wonderful people and

I appreciated the invitation very very much

Um, and I told them

You know location of meadow grove is really close there to

Brandon high school and

I told him that the last time I had been there in that area was back during football season

I was actually driving to Hattiesburg

Um on that Friday night before the state so the miss game the season opener

And Brandon was hosting two below high school

So obviously I live in two below had some friends over there on the two below side and

I wanted to

See some of the game, but I also wanted to see Brandon. I'd never been to a Brandon game

And I talked to Jake earlier in the day. I saw I pulled in there and my experience was I had to park way up the road and walk a long way

Because it was really full

Finally get down there, you know walk in and then I walked up to the press box

Went and saw Jake and sort of saw their perspective from where they call the games

And then you know, I'm looking that's on the home side. I'm looking across there

At the visitor side I see where a couple of folks I know are sitting and so

I

Decide I'm gonna walk down again from the press box on the home side. I'm gonna go down go around that

Would be the south end of the stadium where all the tailgating is at Brandon and I'll walk around in the divisor side that way

It's a long walk so I go down. I'm walking walk in go to the end. I walk walk walk through the tailgating everybody's

Really nice down that was really impressed with all the tailgating instead of the Brandon game walk around the other side and get over there and realize

They've got it fenced off. There's no such thing as walking from there to the visiting

sectionist, you know

seats on the other side of see it

everything's fenced off locked off

I look around and couldn't you know find anybody look if they had a key that I maybe I could talk him in to let me through I

Couldn't find anything then I um

Talked to Brandon person. Hey, they were open these they're like now they keep them shut

Then I see a security guy and I go hey
