Mega Edition: Lori Vallow And Those Who Knew Her Best (9/13/26)
About this episode
True-crime author John Glatt, who wrote The Doomsday Mother, viewed the case as one of the most disturbing he had ever covered. Glatt said that after writing roughly two dozen true-crime books, little compared with the brutality of what happened to Tylee and JJ and the deaths surrounding Lori and Chad. He was particularly struck by Lori’s behavior immediately after Charles Vallow was shot by her brother Alex Cox, pointing to body-camera footage in which Lori appeared relaxed enough to joke with police less than an hour after her husband had been killed. Glatt also emphasized the importance of Chad’s elaborate “light” and “dark” belief system and the way those ideas became intertwined with Lori’s worldview. Taken together, the Colby call, Gibb’s account and Glatt’s assessment painted a remarkably consistent picture: Lori did not simply become caught up in bizarre religious ideas, but repeatedly lied, manipulated people around her and continued constructing alternative explanations even after overwhelming evidence established what happened to her children.

What's up everyone and welcome back to the program? The first week of Lori Valos trial we heard a lot about her crazy-ass wacky-ass religious beliefs. Well now experts are asking if those religious beliefs are Going to hurt her or help her in the trial moving forward. So today we have an article from the Daily Beast Talking about this very topic. So let's get right to it and let's see what author Polar Melendez has come up with headline will accused killer mom Lori Valos doomsday believes doom her in court This article was authored by Polar Melendez Over the last week in Idaho jury has heard prosecutors argue that Lori Valos killed her two children and Her husband's former wife and that her doomsday focused faith allegedly fueled the 2019 slangs which they say were premeditated. Well, I think that all tracks so far what we have heard from the witness
testimony and just evidence that has been collected throughout the investigation It certainly points to that But legal experts tell the Daily Beast that the decision to showcase how Valos long-held beliefs in a renegade branch Of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which took an extremist turn after meeting her husband Chad Debel may prove to be a double-edged sword for the prosecution I wouldn't even call it an offshoot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints This was something that this dude Chad Debel came up with this is no different than you and I sitting around right now And coming up with some kind of wild-ass story and then pitching it to our friends hoping they believe us Unfortunately for me my friends wouldn't even believe this shit if they were on an eighth of shrooms and four hits of acid Because it's that unbelievable So for me the religion aspect of this has always just been there for the justification for the act
I think it was a mistake for the prosecution of focus on the religion aspect Janet Johnson a criminal defense attorney who is not associated with the case set on Monday I think the theme they opened with is that she was motivated by money power and sex and not open the door to sympathy or possible insanity defense Well, that's not going to happen. There's no such thing as an insanity plea in Idaho So that's out the window. There's not going to be Laurie Valow claiming insanity and like I said before I think she's crazy no doubt about it. Do I think she's insane? Nope. Do I think she's competent to stand trial? Yep, do I think she knew what she was doing? Yep. Do I think all of this was premeditated? I sure do And while I have empathy for people who have mental health issues I don't have empathy for anybody who murders their children or helps murder their children and according to the government and the evidence that we have seen Laurie Valow certainly fits that bill
prosecutors alleged that valot 49 and her husband murdered her two children seven-year-old Joshua J.J. Valow and 17-year-old tiley Ryan in September 2019 before burying their bodies in daybells backyard About a month later prosecutors alleged the couple conspired to a fatally strangled daybells first wife Tammy daybell for an insurance and social security payout before moving to Hawaii and getting married Valow who was standing trial alone after daybells legal team asked to separate their cases has pleaded not guilty to several charges She faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted Legal experts previously told the Daily Beast that the decision to separate the cases may prove to benefit As her team sets out to convince a jury that she is not responsible for the grizzly crimes Daybell a former grave digger turned Mormon apocalyptic novelist is set to stand trial after valot and faces the death penalty
And I'll tell you what if anybody has ever deserved the death penalty It certainly seems like it's going to be Chad daybell if he is guilty of the crimes that he's being accused of here And in my opinion he is then he definitely deserves the death penalty and hopefully Idaho gives it to him And then not only gives it to him, but they carry it out as far as this helping Lori valow I kind of think it's the other way around I think that with Chad daybells legal team being able to get an idea of what the prosecution has I think that gives them a better chance to defend their client with her going first Lori valow The state is going to unveil all of their charges and they're going to be very similar to what Chad daybell has Now I'm sure there'll be a few different ones thrown in there But for the most part daybells lawyers are going to be able to get a game plan by what happens at this Lori valot trial So in my opinion, I think Chad daybell is coming out of this whole entire ordeal with a bit of a legal advantage if you will
Already the defense is trying to push against the prosecution's allegations against valot And painter as a kind and loving mother with some counter cultural ideas. Oh yeah, well I have to tell you that's a little more than counter cultural, okay It's a big difference from your mom being some kind of naturalist hippie walking around You know with dreadlocks in her hair Listening to the grateful dead whatever it is and then you can pair that to Lori valow and the doomsday bullshit And that's apples and oranges in my opinion Counter cultural ideas. How about we just call it what it is, okay Batch it crazy Larking because that's what it is a bunch of people making pretend they're wizards and warlocks and goddesses It's like a bad episode of youtube produced dungeons and dragons The evidence will show Lori had an interest in religion especially the end of times defense lawyer Jim archibald said during opening statements last week
Some people could care less about biblical prophecies some people care a lot about it Thankfully in this country we get the freedom to choose we share do but we don't get the freedom to kill our babies We don't get the freedom to kill our husband if we want to be with somebody else And I don't care what your religion says about it Throughout the first week of trial however Prosecutors seem to hone in on valot's religion calling or former sister-in-law and one time best friend to the stand To discuss the mother's faith which was filled with apocalyptic scenarios fears of zombies and believe that she and Chad Daybell were set to be the leaders for the second coming of Jesus Christ Carol Lieberman a forensic psychiatrist who has previously testified in murder trials believes the decision to bring in valot and daybells religion early is a strategic move Because it leaves the defense with few options for their case. She's not wrong about that And plus it's the hardest hitting piece of evidence here. This is what motivated them
This is what their whole entire Operation was based around these beliefs so they have to be a focal point a center point of the trial The defense attorneys in Lori Valow daybells case may have an uphill battle Lieberman told the daily beast. Oh, they may, huh? Of course they do 100% without a doubt an uphill climb The question is whether Lori truly believe these ideas or whether she was just pretending to believe them in order to use them as an excuse To get rid of people who are making it less convenient for her to go off into the sunset with Chad Daybell And I believe that's exactly what happened was there some of the Believing in this nonsense. Oh, I'm sure there was some of that too But at the end of the day, this is nothing more than a human being chasing down their carnal desires It has nothing to do with gods or demons or anything like that Johnson noted that it would be a losing argument to try to convince jurors that Valow's beliefs are normal and stress that the best counter argument
Would be to focus the blame on daybell and her mental health the mental health aspect is not going to cut it here Her best bet is the blame Alex Cox and Chad daybell and again, I'm not saying that if I was a juror I'd buy that But as far as a path to victory here. That's the only one that I can see Probably the most famous cult murders are the Charles Manson girls But in those cases the defendants were still under Manson's influence and were not willing to point the finger at Manson The defense attorney said noting that it may have been a mistake for Valow's defense attorney to tell the jury last week They're only to focus on Lori's actions not on Chad's I think that's a bit difficult to do But they have to as a jury do that because it's not Chad daybell who is on trial here The defense however may pivot their argument after last week's testimony Melanie Gibb who met Valow at a church event in 2018 detailed the jurors on the stand
How her former friends religious beliefs intensified after she met daybell at a Utah conference At the first meeting Gibb said Valow revealed that she and daybell were meant to be together despite already being married to other people Gibb also explained how Valow believed she and daybell were among the 144,000 people who would be on earth when Jesus Christ returned Soon she said Valow began to preach about a light and dark scale and that if a person had turned dark They would become a zombie wasn't that on episode 476 of season 14,000 of the walking dead When Lori met Chad she was smitten and willing to do whatever it took to snare him Chad felt the same Lieberman said so it was easy for them to allegedly use their quasi delusions to kill and to convince others to do their dirty work That's 100% Inline with what I think they use this religious shit the basis of this religion that they created to rope in people like Alex Cox
And then people like Alex Cox who were easily manipulated were easily Manipulated into thinking that there's some kind of warrior from God and their job was to go out here and clip people and do a bunch of Network for Lori Valow and Chad daybell so this religion of theirs was just a convenient throw-in So that Chad daybell and Lori Valow could be together and they could get other people to do their dirty work That is exactly what the prosecution is alleging here Valow would eventually reveal that she believed her former husband Charles was one of her brothers and two of her children were considered dark Charles daybell was ultimately killed by Lori's brother Alex Cox in July 2019 Who claimed self-defense before he died of a blood clot months later And like I said a million times at this point I don't know if I buy the whole blood clot story and the two main reasons for me Anyway, not believing that is one he had Narcan in his system and two
He died with a pink foam coming out of his mouth in the same exact manner as Tammy daybell I mean, I guess it could be a coincidence, but it seems like quite the coincidence if you ask me Zalima pastonus who was briefly married to Cox also described the religion she Want shared with Valow and daybell in detail on the stand She testified that Valow would boast to her friends that she was visited by Jesus Christ And that she believed her two of her children had been possessed and attacked by demons before their death Valow also allegedly told pastonus how to dispel or cast out a possessed person and how daybell would describe himself as an important Alkalite in their religious community. Oh, yeah big-time Alkalite More like big-time dumbass Chad claimed he had been the heavenly father and Jesus and the Holy Ghost pastina said He would have been spiritually the highest of anybody He had chosen Valow to be his wife and they had already been seven times before on this earth
That was his companion and therefore put her in the same spiritual standing. Oh, yeah, because none of this is just insane So I was God in Jesus in my past life So I think it's a good idea for you to do whatever I tell you to do now get up there and get involved in a casting in the words of my grandfather Maron ami Notably Valow's team cannot plead insanity in this case because the state of Idaho does not have a formal defense for it After it was repealed in 1982 a potential mental illness, however, could still be used as a factor in sentencing Johnson said that for Valow to prevail in court her team will need to convince a jury that she is not a doomsday zealot who believed she was a profit But just very mentally ill the case was already put on hold because valow was found incompetent to stand trial Johnson noted Because she and daybell are being tried separately her team can point the daybell as a Sven golly who prayed on valow
Getting her to do what she would not have done without her mental illness and his influence Hey, look, I'm not saying that won't work as a strategy The question is is Laurie Valow willing to throw he who suffers fuck faceitis Chad daybell under the bus because as of now and up to now that hasn't been the case So if she changes her strategy and decides to do that then she might have a way out here But besides that if she keeps going down this road she's toast she's done and there's no defense that's going to save her Because the evidence is a mile high So without her Pointing the finger at Chad daybell and pointing it at Alex Cox my prediction is she's going to be found guilty But we'll be here as the law one folds folks covering it each and every day and today the trial picks back up So we'll have the same as we've had the past week each day with the commentary from the courtroom and we'll see where everything goes
As for this one that's gonna do it all of the information that goes with the episode Can be found in the description box What's up everyone and welcome back to the program Laurie Valow's only surviving child Colby Ryan gave heartbreaking testimony During his time on the witness stand at his mother Laurie Valow's trial on Tuesday And in this episode We're going to talk about that testimony a little bit more and how damning it is for Laurie Valow Because like the other phone calls that have been recorded and introduced as evidence It's not looking good When you start putting all the pieces together of what has been said and you follow those threads as far as the people involved It all ties back to Laurie Valow and Chad daybell and it's not only circumstantial evidence It's these phone calls It's the witness statements and it's everything else that's been presented thus far By the prosecution and in my estimation the prosecution has had a stellar start to these proceedings
So let's get to this article from people magazine and let's talk about Colby Ryan's testimony a little more headline Laurie Valow daybell laughed on phone call when son confronted her about siblings You ripped my heart out This article was authored by Nicole Acosta and Corin Cezaric During the second week of testimony at Laurie Valow daybell's ongoing murder trial A jailhouse phone call between her and her surviving son Colby Ryan was played for the jury In it Ryan is emotional as he questions his mother about his slain siblings Whose remains were found in June 2020 And not just that but found on Chad daybell's property How did they get there can somebody explain that to me? That's what I'd be saying if I was Colby Ryan You need to tell me mom that my brother and my sister ended up dead Somebody some stranger killed them and then brought them back to Chad daybell's property to bury them
Is that what you're trying to tell me Hi Colby Laurie says on the call Ryan then asks his mother if she is hiding from him She responds that Ryan is the one who didn't want to talk to her Then Ryan says probably because you murdered my siblings now as a jur if you're sitting there in the box What do you think when you hear that from Laurie Valow's son? I know that as a jur I'd be listening very intently to what Colby Ryan has to say here Mom you've been shoving BS up my throat for a long time Ryan can be heard saying later in the phone call I can't tell you the amount of pain I felt from your decisions and when you listen to the phone call You could hear the pain in this kid's voice It is absolutely atrocious what this poor dude had to go through And then in that documentary sins of the mother on Netflix You can tell how bad this dude's suffering I mean it is just almost unimaginable to think about your whole entire family basically being snuffed out
Just like that And not only your siblings being murdered but your mother the one accused of it So now you don't have your stepdad anymore. He's been murdered Your two siblings well they're dead and the person who raised you the person that you trusted the most I would guess throughout your life Your mother Is being accused of killing your brother and sister the mental anguish that you must feel in a situation like that Must be so massive that it manifests into actual physical pain Laurie is currently on trial on accusation she murdered her two children Joshua J.J. Vallo 7 and Tyle Ryan 16 and conspired to murder her fifth husband's wife Tammy Daybell And when you hear the testimony that Zulema had given us and Melanie About the whole entire situation with Tammy and Laurie's reaction in the aftermath of that that is very very damning for Laurie Vallo And in fact there hasn't been one thing presented
So far in this trial that has been a positive for Laurie Vallo And I know that her defense hasn't had their shot yet But even on cross examination they haven't really been able to trip up any of these witnesses And that's because the evidence is pretty rock solid folks I truly don't see how Laurie Vallo is gonna get off here When you have the people that are the closest to you giving these less than flattering accounts of who you are time and time again You got to think that the jury is paying attention to all of that J.J. and Tyley went missing in September 2019 Tammy Chad Daybell's first wife died in the home she shared with Chad on October 19th of that same year Two weeks later on November 5th Laurie and Chad and author who wrote about religious doomsday scenarios married in Hawaii On June 9th 2020 the badly decomposed remains of Tyley and J.J. were found buried on Chad's Idaho property
Tyley had been dismembered and burned J.J. was wrapped in plastic and bound by duct tape now again Think about Colby Ryan sitting there listening to all of this testimony about how his siblings were found What was done to them and the all around horrific nature in which it was all carried out and they're telling you that it's your mom who is responsible I'd want to dig a hole all the way down as deep as it could go and climb right into it The following day Laurie and Chad were charged with multiple charges including concealment of evidence In May 2021 they were both indicted on murder charges in connection with the deaths of J.J. Tyley and Tammy whose body was previously exhumed for an autopsy to be conducted They have both pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against them I have prayed for you in my worst moments Kobe says during the call I have prayed for my siblings who you swore to me were okay
I thought I could trust you I thought that you were a completely different person and the shattering of that trust that bond between mother and child That has to be real hard because you have to think that Colby Ryan He didn't want to believe any of this about his mother When he first heard all of this You have to think that he thought that there was a big mistake And there's no way that my mother the person who loved me my whole life protected me Could be capable of doing something like this but as the evidence becomes clear A whole different picture starts to emerge and what that picture shows is something completely different from the image of your mother that you had in your mind So the conflict that Kobe Ryan must be feeling has to be immense You've known me your whole life Lori says I don't know a murderous mother Ryan responds You've lied to me more times than I can count about this Ryan says I've tried my best to forgive you he adds forgive you and Chad
My heart was broken by my own mother What are you doing and he's a better man than me there'd be no forgiving Chad forget it In fact, I wouldn't be allowed to be in the same room as somebody like that If it was my family that this happened to somebody killed my siblings Forget it like I've said a million times I'd have to watch from a remote area because I couldn't be in the same room as the person who did this I'd end up getting a jail cell right next to him Lori responds they think they know what happened they think they know who is responsible one day You will know what actually happened. Yeah, well Lori that day is here Kobe then tells his mother that God will punish her for what she has done Then Lori has heard laughing on the call and Ryan asked is this funny I love you Lori responds. I always will one day you will understand I don't have anything else to say You weren't there summer wasn't there JJ entirely know exactly what happened they love me and they are still together They know the truth go ahead and judge me. I'm the one that knows
Well, we're going to judge you Lori like I said in the other episode You better believe it and you better not worry about Kobe judging you or me judging you You better worry about what this Jerry says when they judge you The emotional phone call continued and at one point Ryan yells the kids are found buried in your new Husbands backyard my siblings my whole family my dad Everyone is gone except my mom and you're in jail because of it Ryan says during the call I pray every day no matter how mad I am at you no matter how bad I want to hit your husband in the face with a shovel I pray for you. I pray for him you rip my heart out you ripped everyone's heart out Lori's current trial is ongoing in March. It was ruled that she will not face the death penalty in the slangs She faces life in prison if convicted chat daybell will be tried at a separate time And chat daybell remember he is facing the death penalty for these crimes Lori valo had to do with her mental competency and honestly I agree with that
She's obviously not playing with a full deck folks now again I'm not saying she's insane and she didn't know what she was doing But she most certainly is crazy as hell There is no doubt in my mind about that anyone who believes in the stuff that these people believed in I think they're crazy But crazy is not a defense in a court of law unless you are criminally insane I don't want to hear about it You can be as crazy as you want But the fact is you knew what you were doing you knew that killing those children was wrong And Lori and Chad's actions after the fact prove that point If you were criminally insane you wouldn't be hiding because you wouldn't know you did anything wrong Chad and Lori however they knew that what they did was not only wrong But it was evil and they know that those children being killed was going to lead directly to them And because of that they took steps to try and hide their tracks and once that happens Out the window with criminally insane now if you want to call them crazy fine
I'm on board with that But both of them certainly knew what they were doing and both of them now need to pay the price When the train of justice comes rumbling down the tracks All right folks that's going to do it for this one all of the information that goes with the episode can be found in the description box What's up everyone and welcome back to the program In this episode we're going to talk a little bit more about Lori Valor Debel And learn a little bit more about her and their relationship with her friend Melanie Gibb So let's just dive right into this article and let's continue to add some context headline Lori Debel's best friend reveals the moment it all changed. It was like a bomb dropping This article was authored by Alberto Luperon and it was originally published on June 22nd of 2020 Key witness Melanie Gibb says that her friendship with Lori Debel started falling apart
Because of the lies Debel told about the whereabouts of Joshua J.J. Valo the missing seven-year-old boy who has since been confirmed dead by Idaho authorities It's like a bomb drops on you Gibb told Dateline host Keith Morrison in an interview scheduled to air a Monday at 10 p.m Eastern Standard time She continues what do you do you are just in shock a little bit Well, weren't you part of the whole entire doomsday cult with your friend Lori over there I mean you weren't concerned when you were talking about zombies and the end of the world and 144,000 people picked by dumbass and Lori valo were going to be the last people on earth Representing Jesus Christ none of that was crazy because that's the sort of stuff that they were sitting around talking about all the time at their little Fireside chats Gibb's name will be familiar for people who have followed the disappearance and deaths of J.J. Valo and his sister Tiley Ryan who were seven and 17 years old when they went missing in September of 2019
Gibb cited as a key witness in the desertion complaint against the kid's mother Lori Debel Ended in the other complaint for destruction of evidence against the defendant's new husband chat Debel now remember Melanie Gibb was the person who Lori valo said had her kids and we all know now and knew then honestly that wasn't the case And Melanie Gibb never had those children those children were murdered As previously reported police said they started investigating the children's whereabouts in November of 2019 When grandmother K. Woodcock requested a welfare check Cops couldn't find them and the Debel allegedly lied and were evasive Lori in particular claimed J.J. was with Gibb in Gilbert, Arizona And I mean did she really think that this Melanie Gibb lady was going to cover for I guess she might have considering they were all a part of that same little group sitting around talking about all of that Nonsensical BS So maybe she thought that you know as a true believer that she'd have her back well breaking news
That's not the case and I always find it tasty when a scumbags own friends or their own people turn on them But Gibb said that wasn't true Joshua wasn't staying with her and he hadn't even been there for months She said that Lori and Chad separately called her on November 26th and asked her to tell the cops that Joshua was with her Even though that wasn't true according to the complaint Gibb rejected the requests This allegation is why Lori Debel faces account of misdemeanor solicitation to commit resisting and or obstructing an officer Lori called and said hey everything's fine Gibb told Dateline. I told them J.J. was with you And in Lori's mind she's thinking she has the all powerful Chad dumbbell in her corner and Gibb is one of their You know sick offense if you will So everything's gonna work out great here Don't worry. We have the power of God and we have the power of this one and that one on our side
And to show you that I have that power. Let me go do a little dance in front of the mirror More than asked if this was the moment that changed it all for oh Absolutely Gibb answered. I can't even begin to tell you how horrible that moment was for me I mean, okay, I get it that has to be crazy Someone calls and says to you look I want you to say that my kids are with you right away You're saying to yourself no freaking way zero chance and in fact I'm three way in the cops while you're on the phone But Melanie Gibb being part of that little crew they had Lori was thinking that maybe just maybe this would work and thankfully Whether it be by epiphany or whatever Melanie saw the light here and decided not to play ball with these two psychos because if she did if Melanie Gibb would have said yeah the kids here or whatever She would have been caught up in this and considered an accessory and not a witness Asked if the daybells betrayed her she said yes They tried to use me as their way of escape she said so part of me is processing
I can't believe your friends with these people the other part of me is like How do you even believe any of the things they share to you? Well, that's the question. I have Melanie Gibb. I mean come on How is anyone gonna sit around with this dumbbell Chad daybell and believe anything that this idiot is trying to tell them Bro shows up in his mom jeans and his new balance and his goofy ass button up shirt Talking about oh, it's the end of the world It truly boggles the mind how anyone could fall under the spell of people like this Get previously disowned or friendship with the daybells in a seven-page letter warning others not to make the same mistakes Judging by the police account given her boyfriend david warwick would have been some of the last people to see J.J Before he went missing They stayed at Lori daybells new home in rexburg Idaho the weekend to the seven-year-old boy disappeared cop said So remember Melanie Gibb for all of her hubbub here Was hanging out with these people right up to the point where J.J and tiley were killed
And then in the aftermath of all of that when the walls start to close in it becomes a whole different story right Oh, I don't know how I believed anything they were sharing with me Well, you believed it because you're gullible how about that They and Lori vallow were going to do a podcast, but J.J was acting up So the boy's uncle Alex Cox took the child to his nearby apartment in the same complex When Alex returned later that night he was carrying J.J Who appeared to be asleep with his head on Alex's shoulder Warwick specifically remembered this because he saw it as a tender moment and the rage is real Every time I think about this beaver face son of a bitch Alex Cox Hearding this little boy after being you know somebody this little boy trusted. Oh, it's my uncle He'd never hurt me. I can trust him This is a boy with learning disabilities. He has autism and this is how you do him, huh? This is what you do If there is a hell folks, okay? Alex beaver face cock is burning in the very very bottom level of it
And I hope his bitch ass want to be Jamie Lannister ass save some room for his sister and Chad daybell Because that's where they're going to According to officials warwick woke up in the morning of September 23rd 2019 He asked Lori Vallow where Joshua was between eight nine a.m The mother who allegedly told Gibb before that J.J and Tyle had become zombies told a disturbing story From the affidavit Lori informed warwick and Gibb that J.J had been acting like a zombie and had been crawling on the kitchen cabin tree And had gotten on top of the cabin tree in the space between the cabin tree and the ceiling So he's being a little boy I can't tell you how much nonsense I got into as a kid I was everywhere. I was always involved in some kind of bullshit because guess what that's what little kids do She informed warwick and Gibb that when J.J had climbed upon the cabin tree that he had knocked a picture of Jesus off the refrigerator
Vallow then informed warwick and Gibb that Alex had come and taken J.J So J.J's big sin was to climb up on the cabin tree and knock a picture of Jesus Christ off of the refrigerator So that's a death sentence for this little boy, huh? Over there in the doomsday called with Lori Vallow Bieber face cocks and Chad dumbbell and as far as Gibb and warwick That doesn't sound odd to you folks as you're there hearing about all of this stuff What do you mean he's in trouble for climbing on the cabinet Lori? That's what kids do Tile Ryan was last seen during a September 8 family trip to Yellowstone National Park joined by her mother little brother and Alex cocks J.J. Vallow went missing days later on the 23rd So what's the common denominator here besides Lori Vallow folks Every single time one of these kids turned up missing and ended up dead Alex Cox was around Police said cell phone data puts cocks by the location
Their gravesites on Chad daybell's property on September 9th and 23rd Cocks also mentioned that the uncle was laid at Lori's apartment between 242 a.m. and 337 a.m Significant because he was there in the middle of the night and this was the only time He seemed to visit there between midnight and 6 a.m. in September of 2019 And of course circumstantial right doesn't mean anything on its own really But when you look at the big picture and you weave it all together It tells a completely different story and that story obviously is now that these babies were killed by Alex cocks Lori Vallow and Chad daybell Cox died in December several months after shooting and killing Lori daybell's ex-husband Charles Vallow A medical examiner's office in Maricopa County, Arizona said cocks died from a blood clot Police said they're still investigating Well, I find it real odd that him and Tammy daybell died the same exact way
And they both had a pink fluid coming out of their mouths when they were found dead And we know that Tammy daybell's death was found to be a homicide while Alex Cox they say was a suicide However with the pink foam coming out of the mouth the Narcan and just the coincidence overall I think we're going to need a little more context there and a lot more explanation All right folks that's going to do it for this one all of the information that goes with the episode can be found in the description box What's up everyone and welcome back to the program In this episode we're going to talk a little bit more about Lori Vallow And we have an interview from John Glad The man who wrote the doomsday mother a book about Lori Vallow And he certainly has some very interesting things to say about Lori Vallow and this case overall So let's dive into this article from the mirror and let's see what author
Vassio Barba has for us headline cold mom Lori Vallow a narcissist Convinced murdered kids were zombies says author The long-awaited trial of the so-called doomsday cold mom Lori Vallow daybell has finally begun As she comes to court charge with murdering her two children The disturbing mystery of the alleged murders of her two children and the obscure religious scheme that her fifth husband Chad daybell ran Has captivated a nation and was subject of a hit Netflix show Sins of our mother and if you haven't watched that one yet, which I'm sure most of you have by now I definitely suggest taking a couple of hours and sitting down and watching it It gives a lot of background on the stuff we've been talking about and it certainly gives a little bit of a looksy Behind the curtain now of course like any other documentary You're going to find on a place like Netflix. It's just a stepping stone It's the door opening for you to take a look and then from there
Obviously, there's a ton of other information for you to learn But you got to start somewhere and usually those kinds of documentaries that Netflix or HBO put out are a good starting point Depictions of the 49 year old woman's profile vary from an evil ruthless monster to an unstable Easily manipulated woman. Well, even if that's the case in my opinion that doesn't absolve her of what happened here I don't care if you're easy to manipulate You still have a duty to protect your children and for you to try and use that as an excuse Oh, I was easily manipulated by Chad daybell That's not going to work out well for you now you might score some points with some people in the general public maybe But the vast majority of people are going to look at that roll their eyes and be sick about it And I'm guessing that's going to go for the jurors as well The case attracted major attention and publicity since the disappearance of the kids and then the shocking discovery of their remains in daybell's property in Idaho in 2020
Her story became even more complex with at least two more alleged murders involved that of her husband Charles Valow and the wife of Chad daybell Tammy daybell with which Laurie is also charged and I mean how could you convince anybody that none of this is related When all of this happens at the same time and all of these people who are dying are just Conveniently people that you need out of the way. Do you really think that the authorities aren't going to put the pieces together Eventually especially if you kill the children You know if they never hurt those kids They probably would have gotten away with this other stuff But the second those kids were involved and people started looking for those children It became a whole different story Three years later starting this week all eyes are on the Ada County courthouse in Idaho as jurors and the public A way to see and listen all about how Laurie ended up tied in with his tragedy Well, I could tell you that's pretty simple. She ended up tied in with his tragedy because she helped create it
Let's not pussy foot around here. Okay, she helped create it I don't care if Chad daybell was the catalyst She most certainly helped cook up all the dishes and she had her fingers in all the pies I'm not sure she was an evil person She may have been very easily manipulated true crime author John glad told the mirror Well, mr. Glad certainly knows more about this case than I do But it would seem to me that anyone who would allow this to happen is pretty evil now She might not have had that evil face that we talk about That is shown to the world But you have that other face that hidden face and I think that When we're talking about Laurie Valow that her hidden face was one that was capable of this great evil And all it took was Chad daybell to help her bring that other face if you will to the surface And then we saw the result because if Laurie Valow wasn't an evil person She would have stopped Chad daybell from hurting her children
But she didn't and we see the result of her inaction and in fact We see the result of her participation according to the government mr. Glad dive deep into the perplexing story of Laurie Valow daybell and researched the cult that Chad daybell was running He interviewed as many close ones to the couple as he compiled their twisted tale Which he shared with the world in his latest book the doomsday mother published by mirror books Asked how he feels now that the trial is finally kicked off mr. Glad said I am very much looking forward to seeing what evidence the prosecution has because they have been so tight-lipped about everything over the past four years How do they think the alleged murders were done? We don't even know in fact how the two children died Well, I think we're getting a little bit more about that after the testimony of detective Hermesio About the dismemberment and the burning now. I'm not sure exactly what the cause of death is going to be
I'm not sure they revealed that yet But considering the state that the remains were found in I'm sure it was grizzly and I'm sure it was gruesome mr. Glad begins by pointing out that Laurie Valow daybell has exhibited signs of incompetence Having been declared incompetent to stand trial twice in the past He told the mirror. It's pretty amazing to be accused of killing your husband and your two children and then behave in the manner that Laurie daybell has such as giggling and wearing a lot of makeup Including bright red lipstick which she has apparently prepared behind bars So she has some homies behind bars that have helped her out with her makeup and the hair and all of the rest of it But you would think that if you had nothing to do with your children being murdered That would be the last thing you're worried about sitting in a courtroom I'd be showing up hair all dishevelled look him like I haven't slept in 16 months the whole thing Imagine being accused wrongfully of murdering your children and not being absolutely vocal about it at every turn
I'd be trying to talk to every single newspaper on the planet Honestly, and I tell my lawyers to shut the fuck up about it because if I was innocent and somebody accused me of this Oh, you better believe the whole last world would be here and for me The author suggests that her strange behavior Indicates that she is completely removed from the gravity of the situation She had very low self-esteem although she was a real narcissist She was always trying to impress people He said she likes to present this fully beautiful package, but I think underneath she was very very insecure and very very evil in my opinion I don't think that anybody just turns on the dime after they meet some knucklehead like Chad Daybell And then is capable of doing what Laurie Valow is alleged to have done I think that those feelings were simmering below the surface and Chad Daybell just helped bring them up from the depths of Laurie Valow's black soul This is why according to the author Laurie became so caught up in Chad Daybell
He met her feel like she was special more than special a goddess You need to tell me that Charles Valow didn't make her feel special Taking care of her the way he did You know got buying her whatever she wanted making sure she had a dance room this that the other thing But she wasn't taking care of I don't buy that for a minute I think it all had to do with Laurie Valow and it all comes down to selfishness right When you're selfish and you want what you want and you're a narcissist You're going to do whatever you have to do to accomplish those goals Mr. Glad claimed and then Chad wanted to be with Laurie and thought of the children as impediments Like they were in the way and he really wanted to try and get rid of them So he told Laurie that they were zombies in fact And that certainly rings true with me I've thought that from the very beginning that Chad Daybell's whole plan was to get rid of all of these people around Laurie Valow And his wife because he wanted to be with her that's what it came down to
It had nothing to do with the angel Moroni It had nothing to do with God or Noah or anything else It had to do with the carnal desires of Chad Daybell and Laurie Valow This was nothing spiritual This was nothing that God commanded Chad Daybell wanted what he wanted and to get that Some people had to die and get moved out of the way And the easiest way to do that was to use their religion as a fulcrum here And then make people believe that he was some kind of prophet And once the zealous believed something like that There are no lengths that they're not willing to go And as they were zombies The only way they could attain godliness was to actually murder their physical bodies so their spirits could be free And I think Laurie and perhaps her brother Alex Cox who the police believed did the actual murders Thought they were actually doing a favor to the children And there is an element of that no doubt about it But I try to be cautious
Because I don't want it to seem like All of the blame should just be on Chad Daybell Sure he should have a gigantic portion of it right But nobody forced Laurie Valow into this And if she was manipulated or whatever That's still no excuse The fact that you listened to this dude Who is obviously suffering from the newly discovered disease of Fuck faceitis Is just mind boggling to me And if you think you're going to get off by using the excuse of Oh I had no idea what I was doing Chad Daybell manipulated me I don't think that's going to work According to Mr. Glad even before she met Chad Laurie had a strong belief in the spirit world And even believed she had been in contact with her deceased elder sister Stacey The author noted that Laurie believed that she talked to Stacey all the time And that she even thinks that Stacey has a sense of humor similar to that of her own daughter There's no doubt in my mind that Laurie Valow was umbats as hell
But not insane There's a difference about being crazy and insane right I think she was crazy But not insane She knew exactly what she was doing while she was doing it That makes you crazy If you're insane Well you have no idea what you're doing And when someone's truly insane They don't know the difference between right and wrong Laurie Valow certainly knew the difference Between right and wrong here They hid the bodies They were being evasive about where the children were So I don't want to hear she's insane Crazy? Oh yeah definitely umbats But not insane He stressed that the defendants beliefs are pretty strange In applying that they are outside the norm of what most people believe Or consider to be rational Laurie struggled with different husbands And was always marrying up Mr. Glad said She was always looking for a better life And was very good at using people And then discarding them When she decided they couldn't help her anymore Well five husbands tell the story right I'm not trying to talk you know trash about her life
Obviously something's going on Five different husbands What the hell's going on inside of that house Laurie also had a very troubled childhood With one of the most disturbing issues being her relationship With her brother Alex Cox Oh yeah this is where they Virin to Lannister territory It is book Mr. Glad Made a revelation about Valow Daybell's teen years Shedding light on the traumatic experiences Laurie was forced to undergo In an interview with one of Laurie's best friends from high school She revealed a disturbing incident that happened When the two girls were around 12 years old According to the friend during a sleepover Laurie confided in her that her brother Alex Was trying to have sex with her And she didn't know what to do The friend recalled that they hugged But didn't tell anyone As she didn't know how to approach the subject And the incident was never mentioned again Mr. Glad notes that the friend Wishes she had told her mother
Who was a teacher at the time And wonders if reporting it could have changed the course of events But what if the opposite happened What if nobody had stopped the daybell couple Could there have been more alleged victims Mr. Glad replied Actually there was an attempted assassination Laurie's niece Melanie Polowski Was involved in the cult And she moved to Rexburg to be with them Laurie and Chad And her husband Brandon Boudreau Was very skeptical about it And just before the actual murders of the children Somebody took a shot at him in his Tesla And just missed him Police believed it was Alex who was in fact Trying to assassinate him too So he was very lucky to have gotten away with it And again with Alex Cox This guy was smack dab in the middle of all of it folks And I'm guessing That he was the one who ended up doing the physical murdering of these children But I also have no doubt
That he did it at the direction of Laurie Vallo and Chad Daybell So it's going to be interesting As the trial continues to evolve what we learned And it's also going to be interesting When we hear from sources like Mr. Glad here Who have been following this case Since the very beginning And as all of that information becomes available We'll certainly be adding it to the catalog All right folks that's going to do it for this one All of the information that goes with the episode Can be found in the description box
