Megan's Tragedy: SUDEP Risks in Pregnancy

On April 24th, 25-year-old Megan Gardner was 17 weeks pregnant when she and her unborn

son died from sudden unexpected death in Epilepsy or Sudep back in June 2022.

Her mom found her fallen between the bed and the wall in their home in Barry, South Wales

after a seizure.

An Epilepsy expert testified at the inquest about major failures in Megan's care.

She had a highly unstable form of epilepsy that meds never controlled, making pregnancy

extra risky for Sudep.

The specialist said Doc should have warned her fully about those dangers to help her make

informed choices.

Megan's family is heartbroken.

This marks the second child they've lost after her sister Ellie died from sudden infant

death syndrome in 2000.

New details show Medics told Megan to cut back on her drug's onisomide, without switching

to another, a move the expert called terrifying and unusual.

The family wasn't warned about nighttime seizure risks either, or that sodium valproate

could have been a short-term fix despite baby concerns.

The inquest keeps digging into the advice and treatment she got, aiming to uncover what

went wrong so others don't face the same tragedy.
