with colon cancer.

Alessandra described Mel as more than a co-worker after five years on the Australian show, calling

her a guiding force like a big sister full of heart, and wisdom.

Mel had split her time between Australia and the UK, starring in 12 seasons of the

Aussie version and five of the British one before stepping back.
