Happy to hear Ed White on the radio again. So thanks to all of your sensory texts on that. And you can download the podcast anytime. And like have a listen back to the whole show, just a bit some pieces that we have the chats with guys like Ed White or our chat if you're about to miss the chat with Luke Travers. You're about to jump into out of the car and go into the shopping. Luke Travers is about to join me in a matter of seconds thanks to rjsanderson.com.au accountants and taxation specialists to talk a little bit of Melbourne United in the NBL season, which is I think for Melbourne United 10 days away from starting.
Luke, welcome to your first league. Great to have you on the line. What was the bag for having me? It is nice to have you. So 10 days away it's getting pretty serious. Now you had your, well you've got one more sort of full strength hit out against New Zealand tomorrow at M sack. You've got that to come. Yeah, I'm a planner at M sack. So it should be good, different little atmosphere and also just good to play against another team. And how serious have you been so far? Obviously the blogger's brutal cup, you're one. So you've obviously put a fair bit into it, but you protected some of your older players. Their Chris Golding didn't play a full quarter of game time. So you did mix it up a little? Yeah, I think it's just finding the right balance of getting the fitness up and better at the same time, we're trying to rest bodies and make sure we're ready to go for game one. It's not the way it is. It's a long season. So you don't really want to be beating yourself up too much even though you do want to hit game one. You know, it's full tilt. You don't really want to be
going to crazy in the preseason because the season is so long. Yeah, absolutely. I think anytime you can rest guys, but also find that balance. Like I said, of getting those game reps. Obviously we play against each other just about every day. So anytime you can play against another team and in a game atmosphere, you want to put your hand up and play, but you have find the balance of not overdoing it at the same time. You've just been named MVP as well. So your form's been pretty good. You must be happy. Yeah, for sure. That wasn't one of my goals. It was to necessarily shine individually. It was more to win, but I've said it in other interviews where I think if we're winning, the results will kind of take care of itself. It might not always be my night. It might be other guys, but as long as we're winning, I think the success and individual success will come through. The expectation is high though. You've got a really good roster. Col Anthony is added to it, and you do look pretty good with your roster heading in this year.
Yeah, we're not trying to look too far into it. Obviously we're going to take game-to-game and but expectations can also be a killer when you kind of just expect those things to happen. Yeah, we have a good team and we're super talented, but taking the right steps and preparation and all that stuff is being a big key for us. We know that it's not just going to happen for us. We still have to go out there and play super hard like this league is going in the right direction. It's super competitive, so we know that it's not just going to happen overnight. Is your game style, Jacob Chances, or is it a game style that is Tyler Mate for the players that he's got, including yourself and Col Anthony, etc. to be able to play their best basketball, so is it a game style that's modified for who you got or is it just a game style that he wants to play regardless? I think it's a bit of both. Obviously he has a blueprint kind of that he wants to put down, but at the same time the players that he recruits is to fit his blueprint, I guess.
So he's always going to put our strengths forward and put the guys in the right position to use their strengths, but at the same time he's recruited in that way to fit his style of play. I've put together obviously a really good roster, but at the same time it's to his game style, I think everyone kind of fits. I don't know and he's speaking to tell me everything, but roughly what's the game style, what's on the whiteboard when it comes to the non-negotiables the way that he wants to play? I feel like everyone's kind of doing the same thing now, especially in the NBL and the fever system is you want to speed teams up and play super fast. Yeah, so I think that's what we're going to look to do and I feel like that's kind of like everyone's kind of game style now is, you want to speed teams up and play fast, so I think we've got a really good roster for that. Because the fans probably want that style as well don't they? And you don't want to play attractive basketball, you are in the entertainment business even though we know with my sports defense
with defense with championships. Yeah, I think that's another part of it is you're speeding these teams up to make mistakes and play fast because that's kind of hard to defend at the same time. So yeah, everyone's kind of doing the same thing. It's just about whoever it does the best. And will your game tomorrow not be how you're starting five wants to shape up? Will you fine tune it that much or will you sort of leave a bit in the can to unveil against the Adelaide 36 in your first actual game in 10 days time? Yeah, I guess it depends who's playing. We're trying to manage guys at the same time and not over do it like I said and it can change from game to game. Like I said, it's going to be guys nights sometimes it's not. So yeah, I guess it all just depends on who we roll out tomorrow. And who gets the ball when scores a level with eight seconds left? Is CG 43 now getting over? All there how's that going to play out? No, not all. I think it's going to be you know whoever has a goal in that night or there's a certain
matchup we want to go out. I think that's the beauty of this team. It can be anyone's night. So yeah, I think that's a good thing for us at the same time. Yeah, it's a huge thing. I hate great average at the LC. I'll see you plenty of games. So I'll try not to annoy you. But I really appreciate you jumping on. Thanks for thanks for your time. Thanks for having me. Luke Travers joining us thanks to RJ Sanderson.com.au self-managed and super fun specialist. Take the stress out of tax RJ Sanderson.com.au And if you haven't bought your Melbourne United membership yet or you're listening to this around the country or whatever state you're in, make sure you grab your NBL membership. It's going to be a massive NBL season coming up. It should be enormous. So can't wait to get to a couple of games myself. As many games as possible. I reckon I'll get a month and a half off coming up over Christmas. So I'll be getting to plenty. Thanks to all of you sensory text today. As I mentioned, the text machine has been pretty wild today. So thanks to all of you sensory close to 500 texts again today. 04.33.98 1116 for 40 weeks. And Tampa a great night's sleep night after night after night. That
is the difference. The difference is Tampa. One here. Great. Why not just wondering if there will be a live show in Perth on Friday given that I'm going over to broadcast in the game. We'd love a chance to see the King of Mid-Australia and Radio in action. Lewis in WA. Now on Friday, I don't have a show. So broadcasting live from the live site tomorrow. So looking forward to doing that tomorrow. But no, Dwayne's world on Friday because Jeremiah Wattley and the team will be broadcasting the NFL game. So Lewis, I'll see you in Perth. Can't wait to broadcast the free metal gelong game, but I won't be broadcasting Gwain's world from over there. And a couple of texts here. Dwayne, you were dead right. No one was questioning the appointment with Clarke O back in 2023. In fact, the opposite. Everyone thought he was a great idea back then. Yeah, people can rewrite history to their own liking. We'll take a break and wrap it all up next.
