Hey kids, welcome to Junior's for Jesus.
0:03
Go grab your Bibles, we're gonna be digging in
0:06
and learning some really exciting stories.
0:10
We're wrapping up the third of our lessons
0:12
on messages from heaven, from the minor prophets.
0:15
Yesterday, we learned about Malachi.
0:18
Malachi lived in a time where the people he was talking to
0:22
weren't doing their best to follow God's rules.
0:25
They were not showing the respect that God deserved.
0:29
They were not offering God their best,
0:31
but bringing him the leftover.
0:32
These people were religious to be sure,
0:35
but they were all rituals.
0:37
Their hearts were far from God.
0:39
They did not love God with all their heart.
0:42
They were only going through the motions.
0:44
God tried to reason with them eight different times
0:48
on everything from love, to respect, to sacrifices,
0:52
to pretending to be sorry.
0:54
They even said that what was good was evil
0:57
and what was evil was good.
1:00
Because of this, Malachi had to deliver
1:02
some difficult news to these people,
1:05
telling them to give God the honor that he deserved.
1:08
As the book ends, God promises to send one
1:12
who would come in the spirit of Elijah
1:15
to prepare the way for the Lord.
1:17
Thankfully, some of them repent it.
1:19
That's what our memory verse has been for this week.
1:22
Malachi chapter three, verse 16,
1:24
then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another
1:28
and the Lord listened and heard them.
1:30
So a book of remembrance was written before him
1:33
for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on his name.
1:37
As Malachi chapter three, verse 16,
1:45
Friday, the Old Testament ends.
1:48
We've studied only parts of the 16 books of prophecy
1:51
in the Old Testament.
1:53
There's much more to learn from them.
1:55
And you can do that as you continue studying the Bible.
1:58
Try to set aside some time for Bible study every day.
2:03
All the books of the Old Testament are important,
2:06
but some people don't understand that.
2:08
They don't realize that the Old Testament
2:10
was the only Bible people had when Jesus was on earth.
2:14
It was the Bible Jesus and Paul studied,
2:17
and from which they quoted.
2:18
The New Testament books were not written
2:21
until many years after Jesus went back to heaven.
2:24
Did you understand everything we studied
2:27
in the Old Testament books of prophecy?
2:29
If you didn't, don't be discouraged.
2:31
Daniel didn't understand everything that he wrote.
2:34
And that was only one of the 16 books.
2:37
Daniel 12, eight and nine.
2:39
Although I heard, I did not understand.
2:42
And then I said, my Lord, what shall be the end
2:46
And he said, go your way, Daniel,
2:49
for the words are closed up and sealed till the end of time.
2:52
Neither did some of the other prophets
2:54
understand everything that they wrote.
2:57
They especially wanted to know the meaning
3:00
of what they had written about the coming of Jesus,
3:02
his death for us, and the wonders of heaven
3:07
These prophets not only studied what they had written themselves,
3:10
they searched the writings of other prophets too.
3:13
Daniel studied what Jeremiah had written.
3:16
Daniel's after nine, verse two.
3:18
In the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood
3:22
by the books the number of the years specified
3:25
by the words of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet
3:28
that he would accomplish 70 years
3:31
in the desolations of the Jerusalem.
3:33
And tried to imagine Zachariah
3:35
longing to understand what Isaiah had written
3:38
about the man Amsaros and Isaiah 53.
3:42
It was revealed to those Old Testament prophets
3:45
that they were writing their messages
3:47
not to themselves, but to us.
3:50
Yet they studied their prophecies to learn all that they could.
3:54
First Peter chapter one, verses 10 through 12,
3:58
of this salvation the prophets have inquired
4:00
and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace
4:04
that would come to you, searching that of what manner
4:07
of time the spirit of Christ who was in them
4:10
was indicating when he testified beforehand
4:13
the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
4:17
To them, it was revealed that not to themselves,
4:20
but to us, they were ministering to things
4:23
which now have been reported to you.
4:26
Through those who have preached the gospel to you
4:29
by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven,
4:31
things which angels desire to look into.
4:36
How many troubles God's people are spared
4:39
when they study and accept the prophecies?
4:42
Oh, how much more we need to study them.
