Miley Cyrus drops last name, inspiring me to do the same

Miley Cyrus is dropping her last name and joining the ranks of celebrities known simply by a first name. The announcement raises a larger question about the names and labels we use to define ourselves—especially on Labor Day, when many of us briefly step away from the vocations that shape so much of our identity. Even Pluto offers an unexpected illustration of the difference between what something is called and what it actually is. So who are we when the titles, accomplishments, and opinions of others fall away?
